What is formally recognized and what is a "tip jar" thing? 1) Give them money 2) Nope It comes down to being significant enough an amount for the player to consider. Fact is, most pro-gamers salaries suck, if they even have one to begin with. Personal sponsorship can be a substantial supplement. Obviously we're not going to talk about the amount specifically, but what I will say is that the sponsorship increases his salary by 50% an enables him to concentrate fully on his progaming career. 1) OK. How. Let's say I wanted to sponsor Hero(JUST AN EXAMPLE). What are the steps/procedures. Or let's say I wanted to sponsor InControl. Or Naniwa. What now? We don't have direct contacts to these players, and simply PM'ing them on TL forums and hoping to get a response is not gonna cut it. And to take this a point further - what if the progamer looks at the sponsorship from some nobody, and thinks he's being trolled? It is not appropriate to tweet these people, saying you wish to be a sponsor, when you're not even a company nor a name brand. It's different for you obviously. I'm asking from the standpoint of someone who isn't a name. 2) Was hoping for something more elaborate. For example you're a known entity already, thus the thread name. What if some Average Joe handed X programer Y amount of money. Can this person then, make a thread "Joe Gamer Sponsors X Pro-gamer" and not be immediately shut down and/or shouted down as a stupid fame whore? This community is very thankful, but it can be vicious as well. I can already imagine the posts "what makes you so special just because you handed someone cash, when he didn't even ask for it, nor gives a shit about you". That's why the questions need to be asked. Again it's different for you as you're a prominent name and a famous caster.

I'm just not a huge fan of over enthusiasm ( the way TotalBiscuit does it ) when casting. That's just a personal opinion anyway. ![]()

That's why the questions need to be asked. Again it's different for you as you're a prominent name and a famous caster. The difference between sponsoring and donating is that when you sponsor somebody you have some kind of contract with your sponsored player and the payments are regulary for a fixed time. Often he will also gives something back to his sponsor as for example promoting you or your products with a badge on his jersey, giving shoutouts to you in interviews or do certain special advertising stuff for you. But all in all the sponsored player is the one who profits way more from it than the sponsor. 1. If you really want to sponsor somebody I would say the best way would be to contact the team manager of the player and then set up a contract for it. If u don't expect more from the player than thanking you in interviews for your support and you offer a noticeable amount I guess most of them would accept it because as TB said most of them don't earn very much money. 2. I don't really think that the community would be very interessted when a "nobody" sponsors some player. You propably wouldn't get offended but i guess most of the people would think "awesome for the player but who cares"

I don't want this to sound harsh or as if I'm bashing TB, if it wasn't for him I would never have got into starcraft. But isn't this just a snake eating its own tail? it doesn't help grow the scene or the sponsorship within the scene. Eh, maybe we'll see posters of Bling in the future advertising flavour country. Also TB two questions. 1)Is this sponsorship being paid using the stream money? 2)how did you make yourself so handsome? was there a stylist involved? Again in case my feelings werent made clear this is a lovely move by TB, and only reaffirms my belief that he is really the sort of person we need more of in the world
