2) Is there some form of a compiled list of players somewhere here, who are looking for sponsorship and just regular joes can do so, and be recognized for it? What constitutes sponsorship? If I paypal'ed a player a certain sum of cash, can this be just a one-time thing(for me to claim "I'm a sponsor"), or does it need to be a regular thing like a bi-weekly paycheck? What is formally recognized and what is a "tip jar" thing?

Fact is, most pro-gamers salaries suck, if they even have one to begin with. Personal sponsorship can be a substantial supplement. Obviously we're not going to talk about the amount specifically, but what I will say is that the sponsorship increases his salary by 50% an enables him to concentrate fully on his progaming career.
