Oh dear... sh*t is getting serious. =P Though, TL has always been serious. Fun to know the "insides" of TL's business model, thank you for the explanation (even though I wasnt even aware of the situation. )

@MLG You guys are still awesome, no worries.

Well made post and clearly the right thing to do! I expect every link I hit on the calendar to open a stream for me to watch right away. I would be upset if I landed on some "please enter your credit card details" page.

Further, by the same standards MLG use in order to motivate PPV and the longitivity of e-sports, if someone wants to be all premium and no free stuff they should also pay the premium prize for the services they use. Nothing weird going on here.

Definitely the correct decision. Good job not falling for their "support us or esports dies" crap.

I totally stand behind TL here, MLG is surely going into the wrong direction.
I myself a true MLG fan wont be watching this weekend not paying 20 bucks for it, even if i wanted to i cant pay, dont have a paypal or creditcard ( pretty much like the rest of europe ).
So i guess mlg is losing massive amounts of viewers specially from europe.

my 2 cents

I wonder if MLG realizes how important TL is, I bet they will buy a spot next time

I wondered why there wasn't any Calendar entry and supposed it was something like that.

Anyway, I would have understood both decisions (calendar it or not). For people who don't get why they refused to calendar it, it's because basically if they link it in the calendar, they link directly to a "CLICK HERE TO BUY" page. So it's advertisement. A very understandable/rational decision, whether you agree or not.

Well I guess that those who paid for it, knows when it is anyway.
And the others, they can't watch, so what's the point.

This discussion about PPV is getting already old...but let's think about some thing.
One of the cool aspects of the internet is the free content, the information share, our generation are really doing it well and proving that this is the better way, the evolution. Restricted content is only a regression, i'm very sad (truth) that people of our generation are committing the same mistakes...
Keep the good work Team Liquid, i'm proud to be a member of this community, you guys are in the right way.

Decisions like that lead to the great reputation TL has build up over a long time. I like that.

Not like anyone was going to watch anyway. No need to put it on the calendar.

But by posting this thread when title has "MLG Arena" TL is making it like ad. First time I opened this thread I though TL and MLG had prepared detailed TL calendar use (separating each matches or something) so I clicked this one. MLG still gets its attention even its negative for them and more users for PPV.

I was actually making an entry for MLG to the calendar when i thought about this the other day. This decision makes sense though and I can get behind that 100%

Im assuming MLG will make their own entry if they decide to pay for it? I did reformat the brackets so they were ready to put in

If you would have read the statements in this thread you would know that this is exactly what TL stands for. Giving attention to things and events the community cares about.
The community cares about MLG, so TL has no problem with useful information regarding this topic. They don't want to erease the MLG from TL.net, as you could have read for yourself.

The 'everything has to be free on the internet' has a lot of downsides too. Why do you think google and Facebook offer so many free services, because they are selling -you-. I think this whole shitstorm over MLG wouldn't have happened if the price wasn't so high. If it was like $7.99 then people would have bought it if they wanted to see the tourney (me included).

Why isn't MLG just paying for the ad on TL btw? TL the main SC2 website... meanwhile they have expensive offices in New York and pay 100k for flying people in. The 1-2k tops to have an ad here for this event is too much? Odd bussiness.

MLG will still get more viewers than a lot of other featured streams so that's not a very good point.

So even less need for a calendar entry. ^^

Losing 90% of their stream viewers means more than $20 for each lemming that thinks any match in MLG is going to be worth paying for.
