After the show, the full bracket will be posted on MajorLeagueGaming.com and we're looking for you guys to post and tweet your predictions! See you guys then!

I'm sure you mean predictions, right?
Looking forward to it. With that sick line-up of players the groups can only be amazing!
Do I need to fork over $20 to view this? Can you guys give us some lead time when the PPV stuff is occuring because I don't know if I can swing another $20 to listen to you guys talk about the bracket. Hopefully you put out a free VoD for this.

Why do people do this? to try to get a rise out of making drama?

To get attention, that's all really.
Either way, I'd like to watch this, but 1.a.m. for me, well let's see. I guess I won't be able to resist, the player list is just too sick.

I believe they are revealing the brackets on mlg.tv in about 1hr 30 mins. Then they will ofc discuss it on sotg like they always do for major tournaments.

Actually I think the drawing of the groups for this tournament is quite good news and fun to watch. Lots of big players and drama queens, very nice to see if Idra and MC or Naniwa and Nestea get drawn together.
On February 22 2012 07:13 pique wrote: Feels a little weak to not even show the players their match-ups until two days prior.
This is hardly GSL where they have a week or so to prep for each group or single opponent.
Congrats, you know who you're playing in the first round of a 32 man tournament occurring over three days, thank fuck for that. Better that they announce them a month in advance so I can solely practice that match up and then lose the next round (and still get no cash) as the next guy wasn't the same race. Pointless.
heh, this is like the tournament portion of DBZ where they have the drawings. It's like the foreigners are the Earthlings and the Koreans are Saiyans xD
Demu has more than a slight chance JP, Nestea hasn't been his godly self for the past few months and Demu has been playing really well. Factor in jetlag and all that jazz, I'm rootin for Demu.

Yeh, Nestea is my favorite player and of course the favorite but still, there have been a LOT disappointing matches from Nestea in the last... half year? So I don't see him as too stable right now.
I definitely think Demuslim has a better chance against Nestea than IdrA does agaisnt Oz. That's not to say either would be an extreme longshot, but I'd certainly think Demuslim is the more likely of either of them advancing.

Nestea kind of...won his region and beat Alive and Ganzi along the way. Less he comes in sick/tired or w/e was wrong with him at Providence, Demuslim has no chance.
Pretty sad for the EG players. Idra vs OZ well... I think JP is actually right and Oz might just take that match. Demu vs Nestea is going to be closer, and while Nestea has shown weakness lately, then so has Demuslim. In their streamed practice sessions Demuslim has had trouble against gowser and while I consider him a quite good and underrated zerg he is not a Nestea.
That's an insane bracket. Demuslim and DDE look like cannon-fodder, and yet they are both very good players! Well, considering it is OZ, even Idra is going to be the underdog. Leenock and Nestea will be one of the defining matches of the Arena, though.
So, so far we have a walk over win for Leenock, a probable win for Thorzain, a match up which shows why DeMu in the up and downs will be painful to watch when he does go to Korea and then finally IdrA raging.
Hah, PvP against a lesser player just what HuK loves so much (see: DreamHack, NASL)
On February 22 2012 09:11 Zooper31 wrote: Lol if Idra wins his match vs Oz next player is 95% gonna be Nestea, the best zerg player in the world with the best ZvZ.
And after that it's Leenock that's one of the few Z's to beat Nestea
Demuslim has been beating ret a decent amount lately and he only lost to violet because of a dumb mistake, he COULD potentially take it if he stays away from the mech play.

I'm going to get mad flak for this but fuck the entire concept of the region-based qualifiers. You know that if it wasn't for this, spots wouldn't be wasted up with people far, far below the skill level of your top Koreans.
Folks will retort that GSL already has all the players that would make it through anyway and that they're not sure how much different it would be. Folks will retort that they want to see the big personalities that marketing hype machines have built up to such a degree.
But I ask, who the fuck cares about these players if they're no good? This game is on the international level and while it is unfortunate, the highest pool of skill belongs to a single country. We're here to marvel at skill and creativity, not marketing value.

Of course he can. Nestea's foreign event record has been rather awful, and he seems to be in decline in general. Demu actually edges him out in mechanics, if he prepares well, he can play an even game with Nestea.
I feel like JP is tipping the picks beforehand. "HOW CRAZY WOULD IT BE IF NESTEA WAS PICKED HERE?" and then surprise it's Nestea! "ONLY SAN CAN GIVE MVP A CHALLENGE" and surprise it's San! Even Demuslim's name being drawn felt foreshadowed.
Am I the only one thinking that the commentators knowing the bracket in advance is a bad idea ? They have to fake surprise and it's.... hard to watch :/
I'd have preferred some live drawings at the start of the tournament or something a little more exciting :-(

Have you ever watched a world championship or the olympics? The fact that canada can assemble two teams to compete in hockey is irrelevant. The fact that the american olympic qualifies sometimes are tougher than the actual olympic event in certain sports is also irrelevant. Deal with it.

Lol, if I was Nestea, I'd be angry at all these predictions. Slump or no slump, demuslim stands no chance. Demuslim had trouble against violet and nestea is 10 times better than violet.

NO SHIT YOU CALLED IT JP. You're worse than Chris effin' Berman.
In future, while I really support the idea of a 'brackets show,' either they need to not talk about the picks before they come out, or they need to get people who don't already know them. Rob has been fine (mostly because he doesn't talk about the picks before they're drawn) but JP has tipped half of the drawings in advance.

He has been looking average in Korea, in the fucking GSL. That still puts him leagues beyond Demuslim.

Going with Leenock, ThorZaIN, DeMusliM, Oz, Minigun, Socke, Ret and San as my predictions for the upper bracket. Going with DongRaeGu, PartinG, TheSTC, MC, HayprO, viOlet, LosirA and Grubby as my predictions for the lower bracket.
In my prediction, JP will drone on monotonously for extended periods of time and will show off his trademark lack of interest in SC2 to his thankful fans. Many will question what brought MLG to hire the least charismatic public figure in SC2 to head the PR of MLG, but at the end of the weekend will be none the wiser.

My only prediction is that by the quarterfinals there will be only 1 non Korean left, it will be a protoss. Mostly because there are 4 non-korean protoss in the same pre-quarterfinals bracket, and all others have at least 1 Korean.

This wasn't an experiment and it's been around for at least 3 years.

It could be really good, but ffs draw the groups live ! Don't announce the groups live. Drawing groups from a hat would make this show really cool. I don't understand their decision here. It was still nice to watch, but it could be way more than nice.
I agree, i like these kind of draws but this wasn't a legit one, it was acted and looked a bit weird. It was kinda fun to watch but it good be a lot better when they did it live, like a real draw.
Great matches, although i wont be able to see anything of it. I dont have much free time this weekend to see a lot and $20 for 3/4 hours (i maybe able to see) is way to much if you ask me. ($20 dollars for a weekend is ridicilous anyway).
How come Pomi, who got 4th seed in the European Qualifiers (ie. a good seed), gets matched up against a beast of the 2nd seed from the Korean Qualifier?

Yeah I agree. Having a show like this without actually drawing the bracket live is a bit of a wasted opportunity.

Grubby is very likable. It's not that surprising that a few swedes cheer for him rather than naniwa. (though his post suggested he cheers against naniwa rather than for grubby)
I hate to spout hate, but JP's general vocabulary has been bothering me for a really long time. Whether it's commentating or doing a show like this, his way of describing things seems to be at a grade seven level. I have a hard time listening when he describes every push in a game or player's skill he either says "big", "extremely big". "really big" or "great" or "really great" or "really good". I know this may come off as a really stupid post, but it really drives me insane. I'm okay with commentators with lisps, as that is an extremely difficult obstacle to overcome, but there's nothing stopping an adult who makes their living from talking to use a bit stronger of a vocabulary.
Is this sort of feedback better kept to myself? If not, what medium should I use to voice my criticism?
I never thought I'd end up saying this, but I pick Drewbie to advance over STC. After seeing him play in the regionals, Drewbie has definitely learned some things in Korea. He's on fire right now.

agree, wholeheartedly.
JP seems to be in the same position that gretorp was in last year. subpar caster paired with a very knowledgable caster gretorp/incontrol - jp/apollo. gretorp has improved immensely, even though he still makes up words and sounds like he's trying to whisper when things get intense. JP really needs to step it up if he's going to continue casting MLG events, good casters make every game better, even shitty games; bad casters make me turn off the stream and check reddit for the results.

Knowing Naniwa's past and present behaviour, he's never been much of a fan of mine. Besides, I've followed grubby since mid 06 and will always cheer for him even if he'd be up against my own brother.

I was insanely impressed with NesTea taking the korean qualifier. Objectively speaking MVP is still the favourite, but I have this nagging feeling NesTea will take him.
Predicting that no foreigner will win against a korean since the brackets made sure of that. Also predicting HuK to be the only North American to take a series in a non-foreigner mirror matchup. A severely jetlagged DRG to win it all and then sweep the GSL title.

JP does that for fun and to avoid looking too disconnected from the actual audience of esports which is very young. He has a degree in communication arts and could work as a fine journalist in any area, so poor vocabulary is hardly a problem of his.

Eh, you are reading it wrong. All of them are on mkp's side of the bracket. Unless you only count up to the quarter finals for some weird reason.

Nestea is getting his momentum again, and there is patch 1.4.3, MVP relied a lot on ghosts on TvZ lategame.
Not to mention Nestea beat him recently, and their matches are always close.
Imagine how good Nestea would be considered in ZvT if he didn't have to face MMA or MVP. I know a lot of people criticize him, but considering the fact that he still does better than most zergs against those players then that's something to be impressed by.

I'm only counting up to Round 4. He'll only have to worry about MC/TheStC/DRG/Parting/Ganzi at Round 5, and by then four of those five will be in the Losers Bracket.

Yea it's kind of like how people used to give DRG shit for his ZvP even though he was still beating most top protoss players. Only now does it seem people get that he's arguably the best in the matchup atm.
Guess he just has to keep killing those Terrans :/

MLG seeds everything by slapping lowest seed against 1st and so on since they started, so you are always boned as the last seed

he didnt rage quit his consolation match. He was busy watching another person's games (i think it was Huk) and didn't hear his name get called. He tweeted that a little bit after it happened.
Naniwa would probably lose vs MarineKing and Violet and DRG though.
But he can beat all of them. In fact he did beat DRG last time they faced eachother at an MLG, and DRG is the best player out of those three imo.
DRG had food poisoning. Hardly relevant.
Of course he had. Every time a foreigner takes a series vs a top tier korean, it's somehow not a valid result because this and that. Anyway, with NaNiwas dedication and innovative play - I have no doubt his time in Korea has paid off significantly, and I will not be surprised if he takes the whole thing.

That's a definite possibility considering he will face LosirA or MarineKing.. Heck, he might not even make it to the second round. Do you have any other insight to share?

I have several magical insights.
Naniwa beat a sick DRG at Providence. Naniwa has never advanced past the first round of Code A. At IEM Kiev Naniwa was beaten 3-1 by one of the worst ZvP players in Korea. Naniwa is very inflexible in his builds and hasn't acclimated to macro PvZ.
Not exactly a strong case for Naniwa taking this event. I'd be more than happy if he managed to do it, but he won't if he continues to play the way he currently does.
Naniwa would probably lose vs MarineKing and Violet and DRG though.

Not even slightly relevant. Sick + not as good as he is now.
Hopefully the top 16 will be as Korean packed as possible. Most of the foreigners are likely to go to MLG Cbus anyway so I would rather see the players that actually need the paid travel getting it.

Naniwa still proved at that MLG that he can beat the top koreans. If he's on form he's a contender for the win if you ask me.

Yet he's never proven he can consistently beat the average Korean.
Besides, all of his wins at MLG are clouded with oddities. Such as Nestea and MVP complaining about jetlag and sickness (sure he flew too, but the fact that none of the players were on form says something).

He's a great player, but bleh.
I'm sorry but at some point the jetlag thing becomes ridiculous, especially when you even admit Nani took the same flight. Koreans will have flown to every MLG, it doesn't make every MLG null and void. They come on planes. We get it. I don't wanna hear 'jetlag' every time they don't win. Nani smashed it. He ripped through a bunch of Code S players. His losses against said average koreans were several GSL seasons ago, he's obviously improved since then. I stand by what i said; on form Naniwa can win this tournament. It's more likely that he won't but that's just because every tournament win needs a degree of fortune and I'm not backing him as favourite but I would not be surprised.

How does jetlag become ridiculous? In a experiment, you try to control for variables, otherwise the results become less valid. Certain factors don't affect everyone evenly and it's BS to think so, especially when Nestea and MVP were complaining about it whereas Supernova said jetlagged didn't affect him in the recent IEM.
And you're grouping me with everyone else, I NEVER SAID IT'S JETLAG WHENEVER A KOREAN LOSES. Hell, Idra and Huk deserves the jetlag excuse quite a few times, as does Thorzain against Yu-Gi-O or do you think otherwise. If you want to say that, generalize it with someone else and say it to someone else. Once again, the internet isn't a huge entity that thinks the same, there are different people, no need to be a douche and enforce another's argument onto me.
His losses against average Korean players like Zenio the last time he played in a LAN or even Lucky just a week before MLG? I love Lucky, but come on man.
EDIT: Naniwa is a GREAT player. But I jut don't think he has consistently proven anything is what I'm saying. He's good, he's great, but he has no solid evidence IMO.
This is the worst brackets ive ever seen, all foreigners will have such a hard time... I dont think its a good idea to invite korean players to foreign tournaments, a korean is going to win this event, atleast someone that lives in korea....
There are 6 players here that I could see winning. In order of skill, imo, they are: DRG, PartinG, Mvp, Oz, Nestea, and MC. These are the only 6 players I can see potentially making it to the end. Hoping for DRG to win!
Question regarding losers bracket: Are overall seeds kept throughout the losers bracket? OR is losers bracket just filled in as they go?
Just FOR EXAMPLE: If Leenock lost to dde and went to losers, would Leenock then face the lowest possible seed that got sent to the losers bracket? -And is that seeding kept throughout both brackets?
