But i guess the most successful system is the horrible quality free stream and the good quality pay for it stream. Doubt the missing free stream will earn them more as in general people like to pay for extra content if they can afford it.

But this kind of pisses me off. So i'm not going to pay extra that a supposed gold membership should get someone lol. Not to mention that i'll probably go ahead an not renew my gold membership when the time runs out. not worth my time or money. i'll just wait for the replays. if i care enough to watch them lol. And i dont expect them to do it for free. But i'm paying them already for a gold membership. which was suppose to be their top of the line thing. if they tossed this into the Gold membership i'm sure most people would gladly sign up to the gold membership. and IMO. it would get them more money than just a whole PPV style.

I dare say, the only tournament at that level is the GSL right now and even then its debatable. MLG should be doing whatever makes the most business sense for them, and if they fail it will suck but it's likely that the scene is over saturated with tournaments at the moment and some will need to go under before things are sustainable. If that is MLG, then so be it.I dont get this community sometimes... You expect MLG to put this show on for free? Theyre spending $100k+ on bringing together the best starcraft 2 players in the world, putting on high production, and youre telling them to fuck off? For 20 bucks? Thats being selfish, and asking for way more than you deserve. So many spoiled brats who don't appreciate anything Guess whats happens if MLG doesnt make money? No more tournies. Are you going to complain when that happens as well?

Oh my god thank you. | ||

There's a case to be made about whether MLG provides high quality entertainment but after their last few tournaments I don't know how you could think otherwise... IDK DH and HSCIV production were all just as good if not better. Also, doesn't MLG have the most technical problems of all the major tourneys? Hell, $20 is what i would spend in 4 weekends -.-

Someone's pockets are getting bigger and as per usual it's not the players that in reality are what makes these companies to start off with. Do you understand how much money it takes to fly players in from Korea and Europe, and have them stay for 3nights at least in NEW YORK CITY? Their 100k estimate seems reasonable to me. If they didnt pay for any player and made the player pay, the prize pool could be 100k, maybe thats a better move? But it would be a huge risk to players/teams to pay 3k+ to fly in stay for 4 days, and not win anything.

MLG here is what I am willing to pay: $60 for the same as last year (six Pro Circuit events). You also need to announce the casters, and soon, before anyone commits to this kind of money. I agree with this and the other similar opinions I've seen. I'm not against PPV. I don't understand why some people seem to constantly demand great production value, but are opposed to paying anything. But I just think this is too much. Maybe it's worth it value-wise.. I don't know.. But it's a lot to charge without any prescient for it really (such a short event). I'd probably have signed up if it was $5-$10. This isn't me whining about price at all.. It's just what I personally would be willing to pay.

I'm not opposed to paying for high-quality e-sports coverage, but I feel like MLG would have been well advised to follow GSL's model a little more closely: free LQ/SQ stream, paid HQ and VODs, and a slightly lower price point (i.e. $10-15). $20 isn't too much money for 20hrs of entertainment, but the problem is that it's $20 for 20hrs in 3 days *on their schedule*. I'd rather pay $20 for 20hrs of VOD than 20hrs of live streaming (of equal quality). Even then, it's hard to justify $20 for 20hrs of VODs when I could have many more hours of GSL VODs for less. Competition is alive and well in the e-sports, and I think MLG has failed to respect that. TBH, I'm not sure if I'm going to pay for this or not.

That being said, I will be surprised if their content is enough better than everyone else's content (especially when there is so much good content out there) that it will be worth $20 to most people. I just think the price point is too high too fast. Given my work schedule, I couldn't watch a lot of the even live anyway. I would have been happy to tune in to some of it and boost their ad revenue. Heck, I would have been happy to pay something like $3-5 to have access and support them, but $20 is too much. I know pay starcraft is coming, but I don't think we're quite to the $20 pay per view level yet. I would also prefer to see the pricing go more the pay per month direction than the pay per event direction. I've always thought it was absurd to pay the same price as a month of basic cable for a single boxing match (for example). Anyway, my two cents, always want MLG and Starcraft 2 to succeed but I gotta vote with my feet on this one. Exactly my opinion. Well said.

frankly. IPL 3 had more player content outside of just the tournament than any has before or since in sc2...and even then if it were only two days i wouldn't pay 20. i certainly won't to stare at red/blue mirrored stream for 3 hours past when it's supposed to be, with occasional completely unplanned spur of the moment player interviews, no panels, etc...and if i'm casually surprised and the dr pepper stream is just amazing maybe itll be amazing and sway me a little.
