If you commit to an event and the event even changes its schedule to fit your needs, you need to stop being such a pussy and play the game. Honestly, quitting because you are tired? In any profession I don't care what you are doing, that's not a valid excuse. Tired of seeing pro gamers forfeit games, if you can't play your games then don't commit to the event. So many pro sc2 players are spoiled pussies I wonder what they would do if they would have to work for a living.

personally, i wouldnt invite stephano to any other tournaments. At least for a certain period of time. Tournament organizers should see that who they pick for their tournaments play a major role in the success of their tournament. Stephano needs to, in some way, see that his actions are not appreciated.

I feel that given Kas stayed up so late to play, that Stephano would be obligated to stay up as well. It's not like kas didn't play all the games to get to the finals too, right?

All these awkward unprofessionalisms (from both players and tournaments alike) are just asking for an e-sports regulation organization. Maybe not as anti-foreigner as Kespa, but "freelance" esports events like this always lead to omgdrama and that's not good for sc2's image.

Personal opinion: Don't like the behavior, given that he has mentioned he's only in the business for profit. Seems bad for the e-sports image.

I'm definitely not a fan of the attitude Stephano has shown throughout this tournament. It's not just about him forfeiting.

According to Sheth, Stephano used "Cave to my demand X or I'm forfeiting" also about server switching during the group stages, which forced a clearly stated rule to be changed during the middle of the event.

His request for rescheduling on the final day because of a schedule conflict created by himself (by agreeing to play in both tournaments) was also accepted by the tournament organizers. They really went out of their way to accommodate Stephano. In fact, they were so accommodating that I think Stephano probably thought that they would bend over and reschedule the finals if he just went to sleep and told them he would forfeit if he can't play the next day instead.

ONOG needed to draw a line somewhere. They can't keep changing tournament rules and schedules last minute because of a single player keep telling them "Do as I say or I'm forfeiting".

is totally legit to make it to the finals and give up. if this was tennis or any other sport, he would just have forfeited his match so what. you might think you deserve him to play the final, but that is not true. you can organize just a showmatch instead, if a player is not feeling well, there is no justification to keep him from his deserved winnings. in any courtroom you would lose big time.

The funny part is he says the games would have been terrible because he was tired but neglects to mention that Kas is staying up just as late if not later than he is to play the whole thing through. Another terribly unprofessional move from Stephano. Nobody is going to hang him for playing a shit game because he is tired, but quitting and almost ruining the finals is terrible.

To draw a parallel to MMA which is another sport that is more focused on the spectator experience, lets say after all this time Nick Diaz wins the interim belt over Condit and we go through half a year of crazy hype videos and we are all pumped for this event, then once they enter the cage Diaz forfeits to GSP because he is tired. People would go apeshit and Diaz would probably be ejected from the UFC.

Pretty unprofessional of Stephano.

They agreed to delay so that he could play. Saying "I'm too tired" is a really poor excuse, and I think their solution was a good one. The point of these tournaments is to give people good games to watch (and to make money doing so), and its a huge letdown if the final doesn't happen. Imagine if someone did that for GSL. Everyone here would be furious with the player for killing all the hype surrounding the finals.

ONOG made a good call by coming up with a way to still give all their viewers a final to watch.

I don't understand this reasoning. Let's use tennis analogies to explain why this is wrong because everybody seems to be doing it.

Famous tennis player wants to play in a tournament, but it's on clay. Complaint about unfair advantage etc. and then gets rules changed halfway through so you alternate matches onto grass. Then, after winning semi-finals, he decides that he's too tired to play the other finalist tomorrow for the trophy, and lays down an ultimatum to delay it a day, or else he forfeits. The tickets have already been sold, venue rented, production prepared.

How's that sound? People have forfeited finals before in real events, but how many have done so without trying? Also how many have threatened organizers with forfeiture for an advantage?

I have nothing against the punishment, it's completely fair and justified considering the time and effort put in by people to make it happen. People can fanboy a player all they want, but acting like a princess in a freaking INVITATIONAL tournament is just childish, and extremely disrespectful.

I am with Stephano on this one, it's not like SC2 is his goal in life, he just does it for money and will go back to a normal life a year from now. He didn't want to play so he forfeited, no harm no foul.

Unprofessional, but understandable depending on his level of fatigue. No need to overreact on the matter, but given that its the internet (especially trolls) it'll happen regardless.

If you ask me it's unlucky one didnt get to see the real final but the tournament organisation did a good job of still providing a final Kas and Illussion were nice to play along and probably happy to get a shot at the money and stephano got his sleep. As long as he doesnt complain about how things were handled I thinl everything was resolved just fine. Didnt go perfect but no real harm was done...

since there is no e-sports organisation, since ONOG has no clear legal framework and since the players have no obligation to fulfill the tournament, what's the shitstorm about? The fact that rules was made as the tournament went along shows that it was an unprofessionally run tournament.

Governing body whut??? SC2 isn't big enough to require that yet I think, most drama is blown up by reddit, these things are relativley easily mediated, who make up that governing body?
