Out of game I don't use a template, I can post up a blank canvas if you want. Right now I only have a few templates for certian in game overlays. In games are easy... Just open up sc2 in whatever resolution you stream in... push print screen, and cut out all the stuff you don't want... from there its just layering and adding stuff. The hard part of this is the Out of Game because every background of mine is unique and I come up with them per person.

Making a template shouldn't be too hard. You just put it to a really high resolution and in the right proportions (e.g. 16 : 9 and 4:3 and then people can adjust it in XSplit. As long as the reso is high enough (eg max resolution for Twitch).
I can make one after my exams (End of January) if you feel like it's not possible. I think a template would be a good resource for the community because people can simply add their links and sponsors (even without ANY photoshop skills, last resort: Paint :p) Most important thing really is just that the proportions are right.

Like in game is easy, I can do that no problem. But the Out of game all you do is create a document with your output size, add what you want (the hard part) and then save.... Like there would be no reason to make a template for out of game. I mean i can throw a generic background with a window in it easily...

Need to explain why overlays are the reason why?

Can't just blatantly say overlays are the cause. What is the reason behind overlays as to why you don't watch them anymore? Is it because they shrink the out of game screen which in turn gives little privacy to the player? Is it because it adds a distinct variation for each player to have something to themself? Is it because you don't want to see the players in a sense "flaunt" what they have as to teams/sponsors?

Photoshop is so powerful just spam online tutorials an d you will make pro shit in no time.

Dont use bevel and emboss it makes your text sloppy, practice using color overlays, eraser, and brush tool for your text and pretty much everything you do. Filters and all that jazz is nonsense when you can do so much more with the brushes and eraser. 6 years graphic design experience. Some good resources for you are below.

For special effects practice I recomend sigs, http://WWW.nationalsigleagie.com there are tons of resources as well.

Thanks Bayside I knew about deviantart.com, and another website i got from anonymity, i like those sites. I try to use a mixture of everything, I will have to learn brushes and eraser style. The more styles i learn the merrier :D.

Also @Atmuh.... Why would the addition to a stream to make it look more professional stop you from watching? Do you know some of these big tournaments with casters use overlays? Also some of these players I am creating for are getting paid by sponsors to play a game. This helps them out as well by promoting their sponsors more. I think overlays are a positive influence and not a negative. The only thing I am truely confused on is why post on here? If its for attention, I'm sure you will get it, just not in the positive way.

I do have to admit TL, you all suprised me. in the few short days this post has been up, I think I am around 50 overlays total (completed and to do combined) and some top tier players as well with big team names asking me for these. I am throughly surprised. As I have stated I am very new to photoshop and will take the CONSTRUCTIVE criticizm of my graphics to better them. I know in the past few short days that my style is changing. The first few i did, i am now unhappy with, and am sure it will continue that way. So if you have messaged me on Skype (which almost all have so far, that is how i send them) i will keep you in my contacts in the case I want to redo.. I know alot are happy with what I have completed so far, and am glad, but some of these players are big names with alot of views, so i want it to be perfect. :D

Also, TL, I am thankful to you all.. 15k views in short time, and only a few negative posts! wow. Glad TL isn't full of trolls like some of the other forums out there.

This all going well :D. I am still doing these, I was asked by someone if I was and wanted to assure you all I am still doing them. It may seem like it is taking a while, but i'm being a bit of a perfectionist so its taking me longer per overlay than expected. However I am learning a lot of new techniques so I am happy. So far everyone has seemed to be happy with their end product :D. All I ask is just to be patient with me, I will have everyone completed that has signed up for one :D. It may be a week until I finally hit the end but I am working as much as my brain will let me while still maintaining my gaming. I am so close to Diamond Promo, I play a lost still. I am doing about 3 - 4 overlays a day, sometimes more depending on the difficulty on what I'm doing. :D

Okay, I am getting asked a lot if i am still making these... Yes I am!... i don't think i'm going to stop. Right now I am researching possible jobs doing this stuff. Of course i have alot to learn but i'm enjoying it. If i can sit here at my PC and do this, Play SC2, and be a father to my children, I will be a happy man. As I stated in the last post, I have been "Switching" my style if you will. I am posting all of these overlays to my Photobucket, which can be found Herehttp://s1076.photobucket.com/albums/w442/SerafiemSC/ I do not have a website yet (need to find a good web designer since i cannot do HTML to save my life) and I dont' want to have a wordpress style site. I have done that before, and its not my style.

So on to some new overlays. Some I am happy with, some still need work. But this shows the improvement! Also i forget who's I have put on here, and who's i have not... so apoligies if there is double pictures!

I will add more later! This add spoiler/paste into photo window is stressing me out. I tend to missclick so it a little frustrating for me. But this is just a taste of what i have done.

Now for the sad news

My wifes Grandfather is close to breathing his last breath

. He has yet to meet our newborn daughter in person, and everyone in her family belives he is holding on to see her. We are leaving friday night for florida, and returning after the weekend. I am going to back up most of my files onto a external (need to anyway) and attempt to work some while down there. I have been on this sort of trip before and know there will be some down/boring times. So i will attempt to do one or two while down there, and keep everyone on here updated as much as i can. But I know i will be a little slower this weekend. I have my Twitter (@SerafeimSC) and my Skype(SerafeimSC) on my phone, and i'll have my notebook with me, so if you want to talk to discuss ideas or anything let me know... However this weekend my wife and her family will come first... Well family always comes first...

The area51focus is interesting in terms of composition, it still lacks details, all of them do. Theres nothing interesting about the backgrounds for me, they look a bit like the type of gif exploded websites you saw back in '95. Goofy fonts make me sick. Make clean and efficient texts.

Work with nice compositions and try to make more clean positions for the adds and text. Work on the details, it's all too broad and bland right now. One good tip that I've learnt alot from over the years is to google up some inspiration, google logos or something similar and use the creativity they have as inspiration to get something interesting cooking in photoshop.

Take it for what its worth.

What would you suggest to add detail? Trying to keep them simple and to the point. I have found doing these some people like a nice simple gradient, with some borders and text, others like a lavish background, and some like a image as a background. I try to appease all :D.. However I still am learning so its all good Thanks for the input!
