I'm not even entirely sure this deserves it's own thread, but I've been really disheartened to see the lack of attention paid to the HOT6ix tag on the first GSL Season of 2012.
It seems to me like GOMTV is putting a lot of weight on getting their new sponsor name spread around (apparently it's an energy drink). I feel like TeamLiquid and the community could to a lot more to support GOM and their new sponsor. Remember what happened for Pepsi during the GSL this summer?
Furthermore, the (almost) daily GSL write-ups so far don't really acknowledge the new sponsor at all (which is a HUGE deal, so many people read the articles). I don't see why this should be any different from the SK Planet sponsored ProLeague.
In short, HOT6ix is taking a big step for a relatively new company by sponsoring the GSL, and I wasn't able to find a Twitter for them, but I did find a Facebook Page (which many fans have already shown support on!). If you haven't already, please go show your appreciation!
I'm no business major, but I can safely say that companies must love getting messages like "I'm buying your product because you sponsor my favorite gaming league!"
Edit: This is a great idea and something that we should all get into the habit of.
On January 16 2012 15:38 FuzzyJAM wrote: I think the issue is that Hot 6ix is not, to my knowledge, freely available outside of Korea.
There isn't really much point in promoting advertising to people who have no potential to be your consumers.
In sponcering GSL they must realize the amount of foriegn attention they will recieve. This might be to test the water to see if it is a possibility to exspand their business. A sucessful Marketing campaign is a sponcer that keeps coming back.

I do agree that it should be mentioned more in the write-ups though.
Now, I present you with the HOT6ix commercial.
Ok now if they have the BALLS to put this on the air, then they deserve some attention lol
I've noticed this, but I didn't want to be the one to bring it up.
Every single BW League (OSL, MSL, and Proleague) is referred to by fans, TL, and even Liquipedia by [SPONSOR] [TOURNAMENT], even years after the tournament is over. It makes sense, too, as sponsors pay to have their name attached to that league.
However, in SC2 everyone seems to actively avoid referencing the title sponsor for GSLs. I feel like I'm the only one who tried to refer to it as the HOT6iX GSL in my thread. I get that GSLs used to happen almost every month month and it was cumbersome to keep track of, but now that we get 2-3 month long GSLs we should change. There will only be 5 main GSLs this year, which is comparable to the number of individual leagues Brood War used to have (6, 3 OSLs and 3 MSLs).
We should NOT refer to this GSL as the 2012 GSL January, 2012 GSL S1, but as the HOT6iX GSL, much like the Korean Air OSL, Arena MSL, or SK Planet Proleague.
I don't see how we should be expected to give a shit about the sponsors when it's some company nobody has heard of that doesn't sell their product outside of Korea. It's cool that they're supporting ESPORTS and all and I wish I could buy their energy drinks or whatever they sell, but I can't, so why should we bother? It's not like me trumpeting their name is going to increase their sales in the US.
can someone get some boxes of this energy drink...the ad is great and i love energy drinks in general. An Energy drink that sponsors an E-Sport Event...thats really cool.

This should make this an easy decision for you. Give them a like and maybe a post or two if you feel up to it. The world is a small place, even if you might not be able to support them with anything you deem valuable, someone you know might see it and be able to go out and support them. Always remember...

Yes, let's all promote the product. The GSL isn't already doing that...lol this is laughable, honestly. Neither the sponsorship nor the company itself will be made or broken by GSL fans tweeting and Facebooking-ing, or doing ANYTHING for that matter. Just because they sponsor a tournament I like doesn't mean I back up the company. I am not a billboard.

No, but by showing them that we think it's a good idea and that we as fans give a shit and take 2 fucking seconds out of our day to make a comment of Facebook they see that we have seen their name and thinks its a good idea to sponsor e-sports. So the next time a company wonders if they should sponsor MLG or NASL or IPL or fucking GSL then they might think it's a good idea.
You might think that you are some special snowflake that needs to go into these threads and shit all over it and sound like somebody is forcing you to do anything, but you are not. Nor will you ever be, so if you don't feel like helping e-sports grow by taking 2 secs out of your life you might just be at the wrong website Mr "I am not a billboard".

Sad to say this, but it is true. I am not an advertising board.... Let them do their own marketing, by paying GOMTV money we are already helping them.
People seem to have serious issues understanding why this matters. You don't promote the company to improve their sales in whatever country you live in. You promote the company so that they CONTINUE TO SPONSOR E-SPORTS. It directly benefits you to support them. If you didn't care about e-sports you wouldn't even be on teamliquid in the first place. So it's totally irrelevant whether they are only in Korea or not. Good god.

I wasn't aware billboards express gratitude. I obviously can't buy their product since it's not in the US but 2 seconds out of my day to say thanks isn't much of a bother, nor is it advertising for them in any way. o_o;

someone woke up on the wrong side of the bed
I'm cranky whether I wake up on the right side of the bed or not.
But seriously, why should I care? I can't do anything to support the company, me posting on facebook or whatever the OP expects me to do isn't gonna get them to sell their products overseas. Again, I appreciate them sponsoring GSL, and I hope people who live in Korea buy their drinks because of it, but there's nothing I can do.
also their ad is pretty crass am I supposed to be impressed that they know that guys like boobs? seriously are we twelve

I would just like to point out that in the time you spent typing about how you don't care, you could have written "Thanks for sponsoring the HOT6ix GSL!" about 6 times.

Sorry your life is nothing but a cranky nightmare Mr. Scrooge. Relax man, if you don't care move on, don't post, go try to be happy <.<
You vastly underestimate the amount of attention the higher ups of the sponsors give to social networking and the impacts of their investments. If you say thanks or any such SHOWING of gratitude in a public forum you are encouraging them to spend more money in e-sports. It takes no time for you to do and it increases the chances of them putting more money into e-sports, thereby increasing the funding and making the product (e-sports) better.

I said that I appreciate their sponsorship, sorry for not going on facebook to do it but I don't think it's fair to say I'm unsupportive or something when I said that I'm glad they're doing it.

I do care, and again, I am glad they're sponsoring GSL, and I would buy their products if I could. It's really hard for me to give a shit about a company when I don't know who they are and can't do anything to support them, though.
I don't think that they are a new company, on the can it says "Lotte", the biggest snack food company in Korea. regardless, we should make them feel revered for sponsoring GSL!
hot6ix.com goes off to a parent site all in Korean, but they have a link to their twitter their... I don't use an form of twitter but I know the OP said he couldn't find it, so just doing my part. Use it or not! @sparkling_7star

I also think this is true. In fact it has repeatedly been mentioned on SoTG that this is the way to go about things. The general statement is generally something like "Please send an e-mail or message them and tell them theyre doing a good thing. If you like their products, please buy them." In fact the way big corporations operate is that the marketing team needs numbers to gauge the effectiveness of their campaigns. In they have gone from 200 to 10.000 likes on facebook, where most of them comes with the message "thanks for sponsoring the GSL", the marketing team can slam those numbers the next time the CEO or Board asks. Its a direct measure of the campaigns success. And furthermore sales is just the net effect of marketing. Building a brand name inadvertently builds sales over time. It is in fact a way more long term strategy than buying a soda can from time to time. Take for instance Red Bull, they sponsor most or maybe all extremesports. When i think of Red Bull i think of Big Airs and jumping out of fucking airplanes. How awesome is that? They have done great work in associating their brand with a certain activity - maybe Hot 6ix wishes to do the same?

Mentioning them on twitter or FB is not equivalent of buying their products.

We've had alot more daring than that one in sweden. Of course there's always a few rabid feminists that starts screaming but I think it's the same everywhere.

No one is claiming that, what's your point.
Im just fairly skeptical of efficiency of such marketing when it comes to local brands not available for 95-99% of us.
But you are right there was something he could do, so the emphasized part of his post is untrue.
hot6ix is a subsidiary of the lotte conglomerate, which is a behemoth in south korea with branches in everything from department stores to supermarkets to financial sectors like insurance and ibanking. calling it a startup would be analagous to calling Gatorade a startup.

It doesn't matter if it's available or not, when you 'like' them in FB, other people, especially people in Korea, got curious of a product which such high 'like' and they are more likely to try it out. That's how advertisement work, although you don't use the product, but you recommend (directly or indirectly) other people to use that product.

If everyone thought like you do, no company would have an incentive to invest in e-sports.
Hot6ix isn't a company of its own, it's actually a brand released by Lotte Chilsung Beverages, which is a very large company .
In any case, I actually didn't even know there was a drink called Hot6ix until they sponsered the GSL. I buy it every once in a while now when I work OT (which is pretty much every night).
Thank you Lotte for your support in GSL. While we don't have Hot6ix brand drinks here, we do have the Lotte branded snacks here in Singapore. I'm switching from the Meiji brand of Japanese snacks to Lotte just because you support GSL!
I think it's great that they have sponsored GSL but their name is just awful. Hot6 sounds like a hot line for girls! In addition to that the weird ix makes no sense.

Hot6 is not some kind of charity we all need to pray now for beeing so awesome. It's just a company which saw an oppertunity to get their name out and make money out of it. There's not really a problem with that but they don't do it because they love esport so much, but because they want to make money.
Hah, I love commercials/adverts with some real good humour in them. Yes, this needs much more awareness.
Final note: Tasteless needs to stop just randomly saying "Hot Six" when a game starts. Its supposed to be something more like "Sponsored by Hot Six" at least. They took their other sponsors seriously, why do Tastosis poke fun at this one. I'm sure the sponsors love that.

Ofc not, I tend to not care about any kind of sponsorship or commercial or whatever. However GSL is my weakspot, any company that sponsors the SC2 scene is a good company in my book. (I was kinda happy when Ericsson stopped sponsoring (??) since they're cellphones are god awful. )
People aren't doing this for hot6, people are doing this for the GSL. It's like sucking up to your boss whether or not you feel they deserve to be sucked up to.
