Welcome to creamyturtle's unofficial guide to obtaining an account to play on the Korean ladder!
This short tutorial shows users how to obtain a Taiwanese (TW) account, since true Korean (KR) accounts are only offered to Korean residents. Have no fear-- Taiwan and Korea are region-linked, so a TW account will grant you the same access to the KR ladder. Without further ado here are the steps to get you started---->
New easy method:
Step 1: Use this link to buy the Taiwanese Starcraft II. It will cost $59.90 AUD / $62 USD: http://www.sc2sea.com/cartplog.php?do=viewitem&cartplogproductid=1
(Note: you must register as a forum member on SC2SEA.com to access this link)
Step 2: Go to https://us.battle.net/account/management/add-game.html and log in.
Step 3: Enter the code you receive in your inbox/email and activate it.
Step 4: Download the client and play.
Thats all and you're done!
Tutorial with screenshots: http://www.sc2sea.com/showthread.php?t=1893
Older more complicated but tried and true method:
Step #1: Use this link to buy the Taiwanese Starcraft II. It will cost $59.90 AUD / $65 USD: http://www.sc2sea.com/cartplog.php?do=viewitem&cartplogproductid=1
(Note: you must register as a forum member on SC2SEA.com to access this link)
Step #2: Once your payment is sent, you will receive a code via email.
Step #3: Create battlenet account on tw.battle.net [ this step requires you to enter an "NID", use the generator found on this link to create an NID: http://people.debian.org/~paulliu/ROCid.html ]
Step #4: Log in to your account on tw.battle.net and click on "account" in the top menu.
Step #5: Click "games & codes" in the dropdown menu then click "add or upgrade a game". Click "Viewable Available Games". Click Starcraft II icon, then click the "Try for Free" button.
Step #6: Download the TW game client. Make sure your region in your tw.battle.net account is set to Taiwan when doing so. Install the TW client in a DIFFERENT folder from your regular SC2 installation.
Step #7: Goto your tw.battle.net account. Then click Games & Codes dropdown menu > Add or Upgrade a Game
Then enter your code in where it says Enter Game Key.
Step #8: Login to your Taiwanese SC2 game client with your free trial login. Browse around and notice everything is locked.
Step #9: Wait 15-20 minutes. Go to your tw.battle.net account and click the TW version of SC2 that is listed on your main account page. Use your 1150 points to purchase the digital Taiwanese version of the game. Once you do this, it will say "Active!" and your TW SC2 will not be locked anymore!
[Step 9 is where some people encounter a greyed out "continue" button. If this is the case, just make sure you have logged in with your free trial SC2 account and waited like 20 minutes... it will become available. You will know because it will list your TW version of SC2 on your main Account page.]
GG GL HF !!!!!
Side Notes:

-KR and TW regions are linked. So by getting a TW star2 install, you will be playing on the Korean ladder. -can use a Relocalizer to avoid having to install SC2 again -can avoid creating a 2nd battlenet username (and having to generate a NID) if you simply change your region temporarily to Taiwan to purchase the TW SC2

- Open a CS ticket and ask Blizzard to transfer your account to KR.

TW and KR are linked. A TW account can play on KR.
|
I was thinking about getting the korean client, but when I posted about it a few months ago the thread got closed immediately because apparently, the lag between EU and KR is so bad that you aren't even allowed to ask about it on TL.

yeah unfortunately for us east coast people we get 1-2 second lag to korea. Trying to micro hellions/reapers vs lings was a joke ;(

If ur on East coast the lag is pretty bad, at times its playable but Unless your really good and need more of a challenge your probably better off getting an additional account on EU or another on US. Thats just my 2 pennies ^_^ ... The lag sux

You can only do US to EU and maybe to SEA as well. I'm also not sure about taiwan to KR though since you do need a SSN for KR accs.

taiwan and korea are both region linked, so just getting a taiwan account will also give you access to the korean server. I was simply giving people a heads up because there was a thread awhile ago when SC2 was on sale in NA and there was the illusion that you could transfer US to korea or taiwan but that's not the case.

I play on KR and am on the West Coast. There is still a bit of lag. but it is definitely playable. perfect micro is difficult to do, but pretty good-decent micro is easily done.

I like the extra steps you've included in this for no reason. You can just buy the code from off gamers, make the tw.battle.net account, add funds to account, buy SC2, download SC2 TW client, login and play

Yes this is true, my method creates a new seperate username.
|
I purchased from off gamers back in june/august. Service was very quick. Make sure you people complete the account authentication process (Confirming email, phone number, etc) they will NOT send your key until you have completed these steps so do not LIE about any of the information. I was able to put the TW account onto my ordinary NA account without any complication or crossover. Both versions of starcraft 2 are listed on my account page. You do not need a separate battle.net account to do this.
TLDR: You can use your main b.net account!

Oh I mean if you do this with a NEW account you don't have to use a NID
|
If anyone is looking to get a Taiwanese account without the hassle, I can do it all for you.
|
Guys, I'm from the Netherlands and I sometimes play on the NA server. It has a bit of lag but nothing major. Does any1 know how much worse the lag would be from EU>KR then EU>NA? I know it's worse but what should I expect? 2x worse? 3x worse? 10x worse?

ok thanks US is ~150MS for me and KR is 280-300.
Probably not very playable from EU since I have a very good connection compared to most people.

Just a heads up: If you use your primary account to create a TW account (like I used the same NA account I normally use), your hotkeys follow you since it's account-wide. Saved a lot of potential crying and gnashing of teeth trying to decipher which hotkeys were what

bump for ping explanation
us.battle.net - unreacheable?

Relocalizers can be found on the internet, it'll save you alot of time and effort.

On December 23 2011 13:40 Arghmyliver wrote: bump for ping explanation

use tracert not ping. If you cant do either, you probably have a firewall.
If anyone is having trouble with their US acc not working after logging in to TW or vise versa, check your variables.txt (My Documents/SC2) and use search to find either enUS or zhTW (of course, enGB would be EU? Know what yours are...) - replace accordingly. It's in there twice I think. Personally I wrote a script that replaces those lines upon starting either TW or US versions of the game, but this problem does not seem widespread enough to need to post this. But if that changes, pm me.

Hey, thanks for the nice guide!
I want to buy a KR/TW Account. But can I play with the Korean Language? Because There's only the Traditional Chinese language to download on the battle.net. I want to download the clients, and not use any relocalizers. Is there a way to get the Korean language too?
And how is the latency from EU -> KR?
Greetings from Germany

I just bought this account because I moved to Japan, but everything's in the game is in Chinese. How can I switch to English??
|
To anybody who wants to try this out from the US/Western Hemisphere MAKE SURE YOUR INTERNET CONNECTION IS GOOD. Lag isn't a terrible issue, but its noticeable when trying to micro, or if you have massive 200/200 armies fighting with AoE going off everywhere.
|
I had some problems after the patch tho! but i think i will fix it.
|
Just a question: I want to buy a key to make another account, not in KR but in NA maybe. The key they provide on the web-site named by the OP it's region free? Thanks.
|
The latency isn't very bad, it's noticeable, but not impossible to play on. I could see it being a problem at higher levels, but nothing major at anything masters and below.
|
I am the next 3 days in Taiwan, so can i also just make a tw bnet account with the NID generator and then buy the game there and just log in right?
|
Can anyone living in EU that have played in KR server tell me if a lag/delay exists? I wanna buy another SC2 to play in KR servers but if a delay/lag exist I won't buy it.
Thanks.
|
For those of you wondering about your ping to a different battle.net server just use one of the following commands in command prompt:
tracert kr.logon.battle.net tracert eu.logon.battle.net tracert na.logon.battle.net
*Note* it may take a minute or two to finish, just be patient. Some times it will take all 30 hops, other times it will go fast.

So I just did the number verification process and I do believe it said it was successfully. I haven't received any new emails since I verified it though. On the site I purchased the TW key from it states it's still verifying, and the current step is the number verification. When I try to go the number verification page again the page is blank so I'm guessing it's ok and just processing. I am just checking to make sure. Is this normal?
EDIT: Nm, it's good now

Sorry for double posting, but I am having a different issue. I can't seem to find the Recharge Account option any where.

Just went through this, all good! Only problem I encountered was that because we are using the magicjack phone service stuff, it wasn't sending the phone verification to us as it was considered a voip rather than a landline, by them. So I just used my friends cell phone and all was well. I noticed that this guide doesn't mention clicking a load balance button, which I had to do while on my tw.battle.net page - there's a "0 balance" area in the top right ish that you need to click to see load balance. THIS is where you enter one of the two codes you get from offgamers.
|
Anyone else get this on offgamers?:
We regret to inform that this order is currently pending for verification purposes. Rest assured that the respective department has been notified to check and we will notify you via email at the soonest time possible once we have the received their reply.
If you have, how long did it take?
EDIT: Took them about 6 hours to get this done

Thanks OP! In a quick second as I was working your steps I realized there were easier ways to do this (ie just adding to my current bnet account), and a couple of redundant steps in your explanation (why add trial then wait?)....but I followed your steps to a Tee, and now I have a working TW account! Thanks for the detailed explanation and thoroughness. creamyturtle hwaiting.

I have maybe a stupid question. I'm on my us.battle.net account on which I'm registered on U.S. address . I logged on the website and on buy digital games I can change game region to Taiwan. Then I have option to purchase "150 balance for 30 day trial" and "1150 balance for unlimited time." Unlike the korean one that does not let me proceed without veryfing my account and stuff like that here I only get "Game Region Warning Retail copies sold in United States (your account country) will connect to the North America game region." which is irrelevant since its digital version. It allows me to proceed where I can reedem prepaid cards. So where does all the confusion comes from and the whole idea of generating a number to which site the thread gives link to ?

From what I understand and as many have stated before, by using a previously created eu/us battle.net account and changing it's region, there is no need to generate the id. This step is of no interest in fact (if I understand everything). Hope this helped.

Hello,
I'm in Korea and i want to have a korean account, thing is i'd REALLY like to have the korean client (i'm learning korean and having the game in korean is kind of important). Is there a way to download the korean client and use your TW account to log in ? From what i've read it's just impossible to have the korean client without a korean SSN (which i don't have).
Is my only solution to ask a korean friend that doesn't play starcraft to buy it underis SSN ?

Unfortunately you need a Korean SSN. It does not matter if you have a TW client/account, you need a Korean account to play under a Korean client.
Though I know you can change sounds and such to Korean--- I'm not sure if there are any fixes where you can change labels and such to Korean text.

I am in the seattle area and the lag is okay. It takes some getting used to for things like forcefield and fungal growth, but once you get used to it, its fine really. Although I have to mention that sometimes the lag is pretty bad. It will be trying to drop me from games (drop screen) and be quite choppy. I have great internet.
But I still play on the KR server as my main account if that tells you anything

is there any way i can get the NA server battle-net menu screen to be display in korean text? (Like multiplayer, single player, terran, protoss, etc) i saw oGsVINES do this, can anyone tell me how?

considering to get a tw sc2 acc, but offgamers says their out of stock, anyone know how long it takes them to restock? or is the site not working anymore?

Good morning all! I'm currently in Korea and want to check out a PC Bang and play a few games of SC2. I have an TW account and a NA account. If I go to a PC Bang is there anyway I can play SC2? Can I log into KR gateway with my TW account or do I need to relocalize? If not any suggestions? Thanks all!

What you are looking for I believe is called a Language Pack

I just got 2 more accounts, they aren't out of stock... It's a digital game I don't think they can run out

You will need a relocalizer, or to download the TW client. KR can only play on KR client and TW only on TW client... even though once ur logged in the servers are mixed. It is because of how Korea controls their logins

i need buy a taiwan account D: any know another site?
|
This is the best/cheapest way I found to do it. It works perfectly! Now I get to be all-inned all the time by Koreans ^.^
|
Gonna try this out when I get money. Always wanted to try the korean server, but didn't manage to get it working earlier. You don't have to make a taiwanese Bnet account, right? You can just add the tw version to your current account?

You do not need to make a new TW account. You just add it to your current account. It's much simpler than the instructions in this thread.
Assuming you got it from offgamers (should work from most places, I would assume they all sell the same game card)... copied from my post in the other TW/KR thread. --- 1) Login to your battle.net account and go to account management. 2) On the right side click 'Buy Digital Games' 3) On the middle right click 'Change' under Game Region. 4) Switch to Taiwan. 5) Click on 'balance' in top right. 6) Enter your code. It's one of the two things you got, I believe password. The other one is just a unique serial... I think for theft or to verify you have the card or something. Either way just try both. You should see the points added to your balance (1150). 7) Go back to 'Buy Digital Games'. 8) Make sure your region is Taiwan and buy 'Unlimited time' option (I'm not sure exact wording, I can't get back to the screen since I have a Taiwan account now). 9) Download client. 10) Play

east coast to kr is unplayable latency, if anyone is looking to get a kr account id be willing to give it to you for something, just pm me.
|
I pmed you, please msg me back. Thanks ^^
|
Mewbert, or anyone else, if you are in his shoes - I am willing to pay the ~$42 ish for the KR account. I am currently deployed and the lag to the states makes the game unplayable. Atleast a half second delay on commands and the game is horribly choppy. Please and thank you in advance!
|
Aside from offgamers and sc2sea is there anywhere to buy a TW account key? I'd like to get it for ~40 dollars

I'm in virginia and my ping to korea is 200ms, which isn't great but isn't unplayable either.
|
Step #1 no longer works; off-gamers is "out of stock" on the SC2 gamer card. Any other source for this?
|
edit: got rid of it, 1st come 1st serve
|
Not really a reason to purchase one now that Blizzard announced global/regional availability with HotS upon release. Just wait it out since Beta will be starting up within the next few weeks.
|
We don't know how cross server play will work. We don't know when this will come to non-beta.
|
yeah Sony is right, global play is going to make this guide null and void :\

Still looking to get an account to see if lag is tolerable from here in the Philippines. If anyone has an account they are willing to share (or sell) with someone deployed for a test run, please let me know. Email:

Hi guys, I have updated the tutorial with a working link to buy the game, thanks to SC2SEA.com. Unfortunately it is sold in Australian Dollars, and the exchange rate sucks with the US Dollar which results in it costing $65 instead of $42 like before.
Please let me know if you have any trouble with the new link

Does anyone know how it is to play on the korean servers from australia? Because im going to Australia for some weeks soon and dont know if i should buy a taiwanese or sea sc2 version, since eu/na is probably gonna be unplayable due to crosserver lag. what would you guys buy, taiwanese or sea version?
|
Get a SEA account. Australia's ping to the US is actually pretty good, and with a SEA account you get full access to both SEA and NA servers. Good ping to KR really depends on your ISP here.

When SEA was first released here when SC2 came out - the ping times were much the same from AU to SEA. The bastard server is in Taiwan or Singapore and our links to there and the US are quite different. This is why so many SEA people complained like crazy when SC2 launched and why Blizzard eventually made SEA accounts the only ones which were cross region.
I am a low skill player but I always play on NA, I don't even bother with SEA - there's no one on there and for me the ping is much the same between the two. I figure only top skill players note the ping difference anyhow.
|
hey Sanchez if you buy the AU version of starcraft don't you get the option to play on NA as well?
|
Hey there! Just got an KR/TW account from sc2sea.com.. I messed up some things there, got stuck in practice mode due to not knowing the language but Nirvana helped me out and now it's ok. The latency is decent, im from Romania, pretty hard to play micro but not impossible, i'm silver atm but compared to EU is much harder!
|
When it says "license limit reached", does that mean that I can't add Taiwanese account, or just that it's reached in the EU zone?
|
Buying a KR/TW acc is wasted money pretty much if HoTS goes global, no?

'coming soon'

'coming never'

Does this work on Mac? I know a lot of you are probably going to tell me to get a real computer and what not. But I would really like to play on a KR server.

I believe after you purchase the game you will be given a choice to download the installer for the Mac version or PC version. This will be on battle.net website
If you were to buy the retail CD, it will work for either PC or Mac according to amazon.com
|
I've updated the guide to represent the new easy purchase method offered by SC2SEA.com. As far as I know this is the only game in town if you are looking to buy a TW account online.

How bad is the KR lag in EU?
|
|
Worked perfectly. Set up and running within the hour.
|
I've really enjoyed playing on the Korean server. http://www.sc2sea.com/ offered very quick and detailed instructions. I have to say playing on the TW/KR server is a whole different ball game. Playing from NA EAST I have absolutely no lag affiliated with the game play.
Everything from sc2sea was fast and satisfactory. The visual walkthrough and the language package tips made it where I was playing in no time. I recommend purchasing through them.

This site is 100% legit they helped me every step when iw as having trouble works great gold league is like top plat/diamond NA from what ive seen so far crazy love the sounds to!
|
I got a code in a private message on the site forum for my account in less than 15 minutes (which seems reasonable enough to me). While the whole thing is a process (considering what is being purchased), I'd vouch for this website/seller as far as receiving the game.
