Welcome to creamyturtle's unofficial guide to obtaining an account to play on the Korean ladder!
This short tutorial shows users how to obtain a Taiwanese (TW) account, since true Korean (KR) accounts are only offered to Korean residents. Have no fear-- Taiwan and Korea are region-linked, so a TW account will grant you the same access to the KR ladder. Without further ado here are the steps to get you started---->
New easy method:
Step 1: Use this link to buy the Taiwanese Starcraft II. It will cost $59.90 AUD / $62 USD: http://www.sc2sea.com/cartplog.php?do=viewitem&cartplogproductid=1
(Note: you must register as a forum member on SC2SEA.com to access this link)
Step 2: Go to https://us.battle.net/account/management/add-game.html and log in.
Step 3: Enter the code you receive in your inbox/email and activate it.
Step 4: Download the client and play.
Thats all and you're done!

Older more complicated but tried and true method:
Step #1: Use this link to buy the Taiwanese Starcraft II. It will cost $59.90 AUD / $65 USD: http://www.sc2sea.com/cartplog.php?do=viewitem&cartplogproductid=1
(Note: you must register as a forum member on SC2SEA.com to access this link)
Step #2: Once your payment is sent, you will receive a code via email.
Step #3: Create battlenet account on tw.battle.net [ this step requires you to enter an "NID", use the generator found on this link to create an NID: http://people.debian.org/~paulliu/ROCid.html ]
Step #4: Log in to your account on tw.battle.net and click on "account" in the top menu.
Step #5: Click "games & codes" in the dropdown menu then click "add or upgrade a game". Click "Viewable Available Games". Click Starcraft II icon, then click the "Try for Free" button.
Step #6: Download the TW game client. Make sure your region in your tw.battle.net account is set to Taiwan when doing so. Install the TW client in a DIFFERENT folder from your regular SC2 installation.
Step #7: Goto your tw.battle.net account. Then click Games & Codes dropdown menu > Add or Upgrade a Game
Then enter your code in where it says Enter Game Key.
Step #8: Login to your Taiwanese SC2 game client with your free trial login. Browse around and notice everything is locked.
Step #9: Wait 15-20 minutes. Go to your tw.battle.net account and click the TW version of SC2 that is listed on your main account page. Use your 1150 points to purchase the digital Taiwanese version of the game. Once you do this, it will say "Active!" and your TW SC2 will not be locked anymore!
[Step 9 is where some people encounter a greyed out "continue" button. If this is the case, just make sure you have logged in with your free trial SC2 account and waited like 20 minutes... it will become available. You will know because it will list your TW version of SC2 on your main Account page.]

-KR and TW regions are linked. So by getting a TW star2 install, you will be playing on the Korean ladder. -can use a Relocalizer to avoid having to install SC2 again -can avoid creating a 2nd battlenet username (and having to generate a NID) if you simply change your region temporarily to Taiwan to purchase the TW SC2

but good share for ppl who have been having trouble with a Taiwanese account.
|
- Open a CS ticket and ask Blizzard to transfer your account to KR.
- Play on KR

TW and KR are linked. A TW account can play on KR.

I was thinking about getting the korean client, but when I posted about it a few months ago the thread got closed immediately because apparently, the lag between EU and KR is so bad that you aren't even allowed to ask about it on TL.

If ur on East coast the lag is pretty bad, at times its playable but Unless your really good and need more of a challenge your probably better off getting an additional account on EU or another on US. Thats just my 2 pennies ^_^ ... The lag sux

You can only do US to EU and maybe to SEA as well. I'm also not sure about taiwan to KR though since you do need a SSN for KR accs.

taiwan and korea are both region linked, so just getting a taiwan account will also give you access to the korean server. I was simply giving people a heads up because there was a thread awhile ago when SC2 was on sale in NA and there was the illusion that you could transfer US to korea or taiwan but that's not the case.

I play on KR and am on the West Coast. There is still a bit of lag. but it is definitely playable. perfect micro is difficult to do, but pretty good-decent micro is easily done.
