Quantic only paid for Losira and the IM coach to attend Providence. MVP and Nestea had paid trips from MLG since they where both in the MLG Global Invitational.

How can some people get the idea that the league exchange program included MLG Providence? Are people too blind to notice that none of the koreans were directly seeded into the the championship bracket without previous MLG results? MLG didn't seed any korean players to the champion bracket, therefore MLG Providence top placers won't get invited to the next GSL. Done.

wow, GOM really screwed MLG over big time.. but i guess MLG deserved that if they signed a contract stating that GOM can do whatever they want and MLG can just be milked for money

still sad to see them action so unprofessional though :/ but like i said, they didnt brake any stated rules so i guess its ok

Er, YuTz is our COO. He's not lying; we only paid for Losira and the IM coach to attend Providence.

Maybe MLG and GOM just need a better translator when they are discussing what the prizes will be.

still the same cyclic argument in the end yet no one can still answer why MLG was not obligated to keep up their end of the bargain of paying and seeding 4 koreans directly into championship play (MVP trip payed for by quantic) when this same condition is listed with the ones that says GSL should award a code s spot.

everyone conveniently ignoring this

Can you please post a link with some kind of proof of this claim? That is why people are ignoring this. There have been MULTIPLE news announcements, posts, and tweets on how Naniwa has already earned the Code S seed, but now suddenly it's taken away.

Source

So instead of inviting 4 players directly into the Championship pool, they decided to pay for the trips for MC, MMA, Bomber and MVP.

MVP was invited but had to play through the open bracket, also there are claims that QIM had paid for his trip.

Thanks for finding this. Now those guys know why we were all ignoring them.

So?.... Just cuz MLG messed up as well, does it make GomTV's mess-up less messy?

BS. IT has 100% has to do with the Naniwa incident. You won't convince me otherwise.

Few things I'd like to point out.

1. GSL's 2012 format change was announced at the beginning of GSL Nov, which kicked off on October 27th. This was in between MLG Orlando and MLG Providence. This announcement stated that there would be 2 "sponsor seeds" in 2012. It has been stated by GOM that one of the reasons for these seeds were to facilitate the interconnectedness between GSL and other foreign tournaments, such as MLG, IPL, or IEM.

2. People have asked GOM whether NaNiwa's 2nd place in MLG Providence means that he would be getting Code S seed. GOM's response at the time was that it had not been decided yet and they will announce as soon as they decide what to do. This point had been covered by TIG news at the time as well. There hasn't been another announcement regarding this issue until the announcement of Idra/Sen.

In the end, we ended up falsely assuming winner of MLG Prov = Code S. Most likely a communications error, due to language barrier. Gomtv would report their decisions via TIG (before MLG Prov even started) however no one published it in English. Many news sites then reported the false information and this was read by many, which amplified the false assumption.

He is forgetting that 1 spot was for Blizzcon winner. MVP won both Korean qualifier and Blizzcon, so NesTea was chosen as Blizzcon invite.

So NaNiwa, IdrA, Mvp and NesTea had there expenses covered by MLG to be at Providence for MLG Global invitational.

They don't report through TIG. It is a news organization, not a GomTV announcer.

This needs more fucking reads.

I'm sick and tired of reading posts saying how GOM changed their format over night without telling anyone. Blizzard cup was announced almost 2 months ago, and the new GSL format around the same time, where it said that in the new GSL format there would be 2 International seeds. Nothing specifically about MLG. Even that ThisIsGame article asks whether Naniwa was going to be seeded through MLG or invited anyways for his recent performance.

Agreed. This is why I made a point earlier about a hole we have in the current esports media model. Right now we basically rely on volunteer translators to spot interesting articles and translate them for the rest of the world. MLG, ESFI, etc all have no one who monitors news from Korea, cause if they did we'd all know about this a month ago and MLG would have a decent amount of time to bring it up and figure out why. There really needs to be at least one person appointed to following news from the other side of the world for stuff like this.

what's the difference? ?? GOM would take away Naniwas Code S spot despite either it being awarded for providence or it simply just given to him from the 2012 change.

Well there definitely seems to be something lost in translation when they decided on changing the GSL format. Unfortunately, I can't see how GOM can be blameless. They failed to inform the relevant parties of the seed change. It doesn't matter that others asked GOM, the people that mattered didn't know when they should.

It would also mean that "relevant parties"(MLG, NaNiwa, his team) didn't ask GOM about it either.

So, Naniwa instead gets invited to the Blizzard Cup which has 1) a similar prize pool to Code S, 2) half the players which makes it theoretically easier to win 3) and its winner gets featured at the Blizzard Tour Awards.

If you ask me Naniwa got the better end of the deal, to such an extent this matter is worth overlooking. MLG overlooked it. You should overlook it.

I'm really hoping that USA tournies just black list korean sponsorship, like dealing with player dropouts (NASL) and now this. It feels like most of the tournies are in the west anyways. Also the west is creating big name teams(and contracts too? i know figures have not been discussed). Western teams are willing to take Korean players as well so there is no need for this type of shady business to continue IMO. It's sad because its have a huge detrimental effect on the sport. Other sports have not had these problems in the past. I.E. Ichiro and numerous other players from Asian baseball teams and Yao Ming and other Asian basketball players. Even with the changes in contract and league ownership rules things are getting done in a respectful manner. This is just embarrassing.
