I really hope China does well if they participate in GSTL just so that more people in China might start to play...

Sky needs to quit WC3 and just start playing SC2 so he doesn't miss an opportunity like this!

Perhaps if these Netbars hosted more SC2 tournaments and/or barcraft events people would see what the game actually is. I can't imagine the BroodWar scene there has just disappeared.

China had a BW scene? I didn't know that. I do know however that Warcraft 3 >> SC2 in China, just within the RTS genre.

Lol Brood War is probably currently bigger than SC2 right now in China.

With players like Pj and Lx, China was probably the second strongest BW country, but that really doesn't say much because Korea was so so far ahead of everyone else, in the sense that if you picked the one hundred best BW players in the world, they'd more likely than not be all Korean.

China -was- the second strongest BW country. But BW is dead in China now.

BW is definitely not bigger than SC2 in China, since SC2 has a few leagues and a decent number of progamers, whereas BW is completely dead.

The Chinese BW "pro scene" is completely dead. Everyone's either switched over or retired, but the game itself is, as far as I know, more commonly played and watched, as in, a good amount of people follow the Korean pro scene. As far as internet cafes go, BW is definitely far more prevalent.

Legend and PJ retired. PJ got married and Legend is mainly playing poker. The Chinese proleague (G-League) already switched to SC2, so yeah the Chinese BW scene is completely dead.
The thing is, the current SC2 scene isn't one tenth as big as BW scene used to be, mainly because the game can't be played in LAN and can't be played in PC bangs for free. At the meantime since almost everyone from BW or W3 (W3 was huge in China) who didn't retired or switched to poker, is now playing SC2, so all people with a lot of potential and/or RTS experience are now playing SC2, and based on WCG results, I'd still say that China is still the #2 Starcraft nation.

The chinese players are good but they will need alot of training to compete at GSL levels.

Well mvp just made them look easy but I bet some cane survive the GSL league.

I highly doubt we'll be seeing sen as a part of this team. He is TAIWANESE, not CHINESE. Yes, there's a big difference if you're familiar with the two...

Believe me, Taiwanese are ethnically Chinese. Taiwan is just not part of PRC.

Yeah, but culturally they are different, which is why Sen probably wouldn't be on the Chinese team.
Think about it, Taiwan isn't even part of the Chinese SC2 server but rather part of the Korean one.

The GSTL is looking to become an absolutely enormous league now, and this Chinese team is just going to make it better. I personally like the team v. team format better then 1v1. Something about the two teams facing off makes it seem like more of a legitimate "sport". Team leagues in general like the IPL Team Arena Challenge are starting to become bigger as well. However, I think there needs to be a much larger team leagues which has teams from Europe, Korea, and North America participating. The GSTL is almost exclusively Korean and the IPL team leagues sometimes are missing large teams. I just think a massive team league would be really exciting. (I'm looking at you MLG! lolz)

Culturally they're almost exactly the same. (Politically, not so, but that is an aside)

edit: somehow did not notice there were 12 pages of comments above saying the same thing ><

Oh, just noticed the GSTL is a month later. While I wish the best for the Chinese team, I have to stand by the Emperor, and the Empire (Slayers team). Seeing as Ulfric doesn't play SC2, I'm going to have to side with the Empire this time around, but dang, Ulfric is such a badass .
