Thank you, GOMtv.

You never fail to disappoint. Manners and justified actions. Thank you for this statement, and for all of 2011. See you the coming decades.

It always does that...

Big corp responds to criticism with weighted sentences and everyone eats that up like Jesus beamed it into their eyes.

It's still BS and you know it.

i dont care, if Naniwa cannot play code S game because gomtv punished him by the reason of his probe rush, that means gomtv is a joke at all.
maybe Naniwa would say sorry for his fans, but nothing must to be applogized for his "so called" unprofessional action, i like this guy, when he bitted those eyes above head korean players, but very sorry, these koreans beared away his oppotunity becuase their weak self-esteem has been injured.
totally joking.

You sound pretty racist in this post urself sir... Again, if this was a Korean doing he would have been banned for months... I don't see how GOM's action is not acceptable. It is a different culture with different set of rules. Get used to it. Míybe you should stop being ignorant and accept that there are other cultures out there with other set of rules?

I <3 GOM. I think they approached the whole situation rather well.
And as I mentioned in a previous thread:

if a Korean had been involved in a similar incident, it is possible that a much harsher reaction would have followed. It is also very likely that the player's team would have taken firm action before the GSL could have even reacted to it.

So not even the Naniwa fans should feel too bad about anything.

I don't like the statement at all. How come everyone was under the impression that top placing non-Code S player at any MLG event will recieve a Code S slot? Because that's what was being said. If you would change it now, and it would affect next season it would be fine. I think it's disrespectful to Naniwa, Quantic, MLG and frankly the entire western SC2 community. Did he purposely break a rule? Was the rule obvious and 100% correct to what happen? Neither of those question's answer is true.

A warning would have been fine, you have enough status to be able to say "we won't tolerate that again", then noone will ever do it. Making an example of a player is completely unnecessary. Also, you might want to look into playing unnecessary games, unless it's clearly stated as "Friendly showgame", or anything like that. Would the game be good either way? Definately not. Two players playing with nothing to gain, probably just want to get home or get the previous games out of their mind.

I really don't agree with how you managed this, and i actually hope that you take back this statement and instead hand out a warning to Naniwa, aswell as stating that MLG seeds is no longer 100%, rather it depends on who you want to pick. This also makes MLG less valuable in my eyes, since the best part with last MLG was a non-korean competing in Code S, and a swedish aswell as protoss player.

I don't get why you take Idra either. He is a great player for sure, but he hasn't posted the results and i don't get why you forget what happened last time he played in the GSL. He left in the middle of a season (i've heard rumours that you wanted him to leave during the middle and not before, but i don't know if it's true and i will treat it like you didn't communicate). Now you invite him back giving him a Code S slot, over a player who was promised a slot, both according to MLG and GSL, just because you had rules that wasn't clear enough?

I think this will have a negative impact on GSL, i don't know for how long. But i got less interested in buying a season ticket, which i have been doing for about half the seasons. Both because Naniwa aint no longer in it and i wanted to follow his progress seeing as he deserved this code S spot in so many ways. Also since you handled this very poorly in my eyes. I just hope you won't stick with being this stuck up...

Did you read Naniwas statement? He regrets his actions and will not compete in GSL January at all. OUT OF REGRET. Why do his "fans" still try to back him although he already admitted that he was wrong?

Did u read what i wrote? I wasn't just saying that Naniwa is amazing and you should give him a second chance and he didn't do anything wrong and all that. I think it's blown out of proportion, of course. Naniwa has to apologize obviously. I'm not a huge fan of Naniwa really, as i think that he's childish and somewhat socially awkward, often having to learn everything from scratch when it comes to everything other than just the gameplay in itself.

HOWEVER, i think GOMTV really handled this wrong.

It seems like a lot of people have been under the impression that NaNiWa has received a Code S seed for taking 2nd place at MLG Providence. The truth however is that NaNiWa has received the right to compete in the Blizzard Cup for his 2nd place achievement at MLG Providence.

MLG mentioned several times in posts that Naniwa has earned a Code S Spot. Either you need to work on your communication with MLG, they clearly thought he had Code S. Or you need to make rules more clear to everyone. Because everyone thought he had Code S and not a seed in some random tournament we didn't even know about at Providence.

OR MLG needs to verify their info before posting them everywhere on the internet.
Just a thought.

Very disappointed with the decision and statement from GOM. That said, I will continue watching and enjoying their league. Let's hope we don't have situations like this going forward.

Finally, what I've been looking forward too: punishment for arrogant, disrespectful pro-gamers. I wrote several posts in the State of The Game thread a week or two ago on exactly this subject.

When Artosis highlighted on the show about pro-gamers like Naniwa disrespecting casters, event staff and tournaments in general, there were actually ignorant people defending their actions (just like in this thread). Some pro-gamers even had the audacity to say "the tournament wouldn't mean anything without me". The key response to those idiots was: "Players are not in charge of anything, Tournaments are." I can only imagine the look on the faces of these gamers as they find out they've been banned from Tournaments after they thought they were untouchable: priceless.

Good job GOMt. Now if only MLG would do something similar next season rather than just ignoring it like Providence. Tired of foreign tournaments being intimidated by these few ego-maniac "pro-gamers" who think they are in charge and indispensable to E-sports.

Anybody that says KESPA would've handled this situation better has no idea what they are talking about

KESPA was not only strict about what happened on their own tournaments but they were strict on what happened outside of tournaments so that the players can display the best games possible on television

If this happened under KESPA naniwa would be 100% banned forever in any korean tournament

KESPA would not punish someone for not breaking a rule. KESPA was hard on players but not close to as subjective as GomTV. Its like Singapore vs Pakistan.

I think it's an incredibly stupid, inappropriate move. You're trading an exciting code S season with Naniwa to punish silly misbehavior in an irrelevant game by somebody that's known to be silly, and all of that for irrational, highly subjective reasons.

This statement makes things clear, thanks GOM. I still consider that while it was a stupid and childish behavior, Nani still has reasons behind this, and these weren't totally unrelated to the tournament format...

Great statement. I support GOM's decision and official statement, as well as Naniwa's apologies. I think it has to be punished in some way. At the same time, I don't think Naniwa knew what he was doing really. I think this was a wake up call for him, and I hope and believe he will take the lesson to heart. I think he's not a bad person. He just made a big mistake, and now he has to pay for it. I think the whole thing will cool down a bit now. Good to see the actual translations as well. It sucks when someone misquotes Mr. Chae and everybody thinks he's the bad guy. GOM TV had to do this, or else it would send out a bad message.

If Gom actually decided not to play this Naniwa vs Nestea match because it is meaningless, tons of people here will also complain that they want an epic rematch between two giants.

This situation is controversial only because he is a foreigner. If he is a no-name Korean, people will bash him to death, no controversial at all.

So true lol.

The fact that Naniwa earned his Code S spot isn't all that clear to me yet xD Will go to bed and check tomorrow for more e-drama.

By tolerating such behavior, purposefully losing might be deemed as a legitimate action and we might see more of such matches in the future, which is something that surely neither the fans nor the players would appreciate.

if u guys dont see it, you guys must be dumb. dont let the door hit u on ur way out of gom. they got plenty of other viewers and dont need retards like u guys watching their programs anyways.

you telling me losing say 10,000 viewers out of this isnt going to hit them hard?(not saying the is that many people who wont subscribe) but your comment is ridiculous.

Even for a month at a £5 100 viewers would be £500 .....it all adds up over months too...stop tlaking like the is millions and millions watching as the isnt..

This incredibly convoluted explanation as to why GOM revoked his Code S invite is way more insulting to Naniwa and the community as a whole than just admitting that you're taking it away because you don't like what he did. If the highest placing player at MLG Providence was meant to only ever get an invite to the Blizzard Cup then that should've been made clear, but on the contrary it was made very clear that it resulted in a Code S spot, not a spot to a one time invitational.

Naniwa won a code S spot, an argument could be made if he missed a GSL and was trying to redeem it later like a coupon, but he didn't, he's there for the first possible GSL there could be after providence. The whole thing stinks, the very idea of whether he should have been reprimanded for it all is highly debatable and you're taking such an over the top action that is literally backing out of a prior agreement.

If the GSL stands for breaking agreements for intentionally not being disingenuous to the fans who watch it, I honestly don't know what justification goes through your guys heads. The fact you said that if it was a korean it would likely be a worse punishment is probably even more disgusting.

I'll certainly be boycotting until there's an apology or this course of action is reversed.

Also, if the Code S spot was never "officially" Naniwa's then they should have corrected the websites that said it was...which a lot of them did, including MLG, with whom they have the partnership. If even MLG was misinformed in this regard, then there was a communication breakdown somewhere
