GOM has consistently done a great job of trying to give us, the SC2 fans, what we want. To simply say "fuck Gom, fuck Koreans, boycott!" is really short-sighted and detrimental to SC2 and E-Sports as a whole. Great statement. I don't hate Naniwa, but I definitely think he displayed very poor sportsmanship. His punishment is harsh, but quite justified.

Yeah, how does GOM explain this?

Because in the MLG agreement, they also state that they'll send over 4 korean invites every tournament in 2011 as well but did not in providence, maybe this assumed then that no LXG was going to happen as a result of Providence. That's the way I interpret it. Why is it that people are picking apart an agreement of GSL side but ignoring that MLG didn't do their part for that tournament either, and thus voided the LXG participation across the board for this tournament?

MLG paid for Bomber, MMA, MVP, and MC for providence.

So they did pay for 4 koreans. Mindblowing.

I think this is a fair for both parties.
Its doesn't deny naniwa to compete for gsl,
beside idra and sen are very good choices for code s spot

You are wrong it got mistranslated, go do your research.

Can't really say sorry about someone else's mistake. But if he didn't really say Nani is an "(amateur?) tourney prize hunter" then that would be nice to know. And thanks anyway.

Hihi:

MLG is honored to announce a true game-changer for the world of competitive StarCraft 2. Beginning at MLG Columbus and continuing throughout the 2011 Season, Major League Gaming and the GOMTV Global StarCraft 2 League are establishing a League Exchange Program that will send the best MLG players to compete in the GSL, and allow top Korean talent to play live in the US.

Where were the 4 Korean invites to MLG Providence?

no, but it states that code S spot will be awarded at every MLG in 2011, no exceptions. doesnt matter if 4 koreans were sent or not. read what he linked.

MLG Announcement

"GSL Pro Players Competing on the MLG Pro Circuit

MLG will invite four Korean pro players to each Pro Circuit Live Competition."

I thought that anyone and everyone could compete in MLG.

yes, but their "invites" get them a paid trip + championship seeding.

Exactly, people are nit-picking at GOM's announcement, but fail to see MLG didn't keep it's promise of 4 Korean invites either

I give up, keep fighting the good fight, people are angry and will pick and choose their arguments to fit their own personal vendetta's or points to display while ignoring other facts blatantly just to reach their own conclusions. I need to walk away from this entire discussion since it's apparent that people who support Gom in this are moving on, and those who support Naniwa will continue to flame Gom.

For every person claiming they are not subscribing to GOM, there is just as many people applauding gom and securing their subscriptions so really, making that point is silly and just being bitter. I hope we can move past all of this in the future, and my best wishes to Naniwa, re-earning his way into code S via the code A prelims, or impressing Gom enough to earn a code S seed in seasons 2-5.

I'm out.
I now have autographs of both BoxeR and NaDa. I can die happy. Lim Yo Hwan and Lee Yun Yeol FIGHTING forever!

Again, it's the same story.

There is still a lot of bullshit in this.

NANIWA DID LOSE IS CODE S SPOT. He was not just a "candidate"... He himself knew that he would have the spot, we all knew it. It was on Gomtv and MLG... If it was an invite or the MLG/GSL exchange, who care? The point is because of what he did during Blizzard Cup (NOT GSL, BLIZZARD CUP!) he just lost is spot.

And, you can't punish someone for a rule that was not explicit and hope that the community will all be right with it. You warn him, and then you add a new rule, and it never happen again. Simple right?

I will ask for a refund for my GSL ticket, and will harass their sponsors about it... until Naniwa is back in Code S, by a seed or is own way through Code A... I will not follow GSL and will mail their sponsors and blizzard each freaking day until Naniwa got what he went to Korea for.

They have the right to do want they want since it's their tournament, but I have the right to be against such a harsh punishement.

Have fun harassing their sponsors. Grow up.

The fact that GOM can pull out such an utter LIE to the community and get away with it says a lot about how corrupt this scene is. Why can't a decent company take the place of these clowns instead? They are lying straight to our faces.

He did not. He a-moved. At least Nestea went mineral drill to surround the probes.

Thank you! I wish I could have watched the games. I'm still a little confused about whether he had already been awarded the Code S or whether it was "under consideration." If it had been awarded, then it is clearly a punishment and GomTV is lying. This would seem completely unnecessary, because obviously you can't have players deliberately throwing games because that would make match-fixing motive based rather than fact based. GomTV did mention this last point in their statement.

So my remaining question:

Had Code S been officially awarded to NaNiWa? Is there digital or hard proof of this fact?

There has never been, as far as I know, a GOMTV announcement that Naniwa gets Code S.

My point is: GOMTV, after MLG Providence, has never announced Naniwa to get the Code S.

the new GSL format didn't specify a code S seed for somebody in the top 3 at MLG who wasn't already in Code S, it specified two code s seeds, nothing about MLG

that's the thing about agreements, they can change. we have to wait for MLG to make a statement on this before we know for sure

No, I do not believe you. Neither do I believe that GOMTV is handling the situation appropriately.

First of all, shouldn't the Code S situation with MLG have been clarified properly ages and ages ago to begin? Now they are coming out with the important information, now that people are understandably upset. How are they treating us foreign fans? We do not have access to any of the Korean sites where all that might have been written down. Or did this Code S seed business even exist anywhere except the minds of the people involved in the GSL before the Naniwa incident? Naturally there is reason to doubt that it did!

Second, why wasn't Nestea punished for his abysmal games versus MVP then in the Code S finals at Blizzcon? Are you kidding me? How is that not a double standard? What about the incredibly bad games of Top who got 4-0d? Yeah they all "tried", so what? There was price money on the line and the GSL reputation.

GOMTV literally admitted in the post that the negative perception of the incident influenced their choice not to give the invite to Naniwa. The way I see it, they have no backbone to stand up against the negative outlash and admit they messed up the tournament format and those games should not have been played. Instead Mr Chae made silly statements about "wanting to see the progamer Naniwa not Johan Lucchesi". He's a talented progamer in a foreign country, why the hell does he have to dance for the amusement of Koreans like a puppet?

Sorry, but I do not accept that post at all.

Both Korean as well as international fans are important to us. We hope that no one gets the wrong picture and believes that NaNiWa is being treated disadvantageously because he is a foreigner. On the contrary, if a Korean had been involved in a similar incident, it is possible that a much harsher reaction would have followed. It is also very likely that the player's team would have taken firm action before the GSL could have even reacted to it.

I would strongly urge you to revise this statement. The way that it is worded leaves the perception that your organization is making a snide comment about the nature of Naniwa's foreigner representation vis-a-vis your stated examples of the Korean model. This vagueness can be chalked up to inadequacies in translation, but should be addressed.

My emphasis added in the quote.

I wonder what would happen if they put the football world cup champioship bronze / 4th place spots without prize pool. What quality of games would you see? Would the players even show up?
Kicking him out of the tournament that they had given him a spot in through scemantics is a cheap cop out to please the Korean crowd.
If an actual sports team in a world sport would've been banned from a tournament because they didn't play 'passionately' enough, there'd be a fucking uproar. Somehow now it's all cool, and GOM can change their tournament roster however they like.
It wouldn't surprise me if the next champion is crowned without ro8 even being played as he was a clear crowd favourite and he played very 'passionately'.
When was performance removed out of the pictures in sports? How can you go by anything but performance, when no rules were broken?
I bet i can maı̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̸̨̨̨̨̨̨ke you wipe your screen.

If you fail to read or refuse to believe them, it's your problem but that doesn't make your statement right.

So bullshit that GOM doesn't admit to any fault of their own for making a bad format.

No explicit apology on their behalf is very ****ed up, much less respect for them going forward.
