You have to respect the guy for throwing himself out there with no safety nets. I think hes going to have an awesome time, regardless of how he does in the game.
quoted for fucking truth. so many things right about this post!
1 thing most people don't understand about going to korea is that going for less than a month is completely worthless. You're spending your first days simply getting acquianted and sightseeing, so really you're only there for a few weeks. 2 or 3 weeks of practice, in Korea or otherwise, really doesn't amount to anything. You might as well just stay home at that point.
On the other hand, we have a pro who is willing to pay for his own stay in korea for at LEAST 6 months. He has this planned out. He isn't going to Korea without a definite place to stay like cArn for example. Before going to Korea he was waking up early and playing during Korean hours. The only other person I can think of that did this as a semipro/pro was major (another example of a person who is really dedicated to the game itself).
DesRow has to put up with a lot of bullshit from this community that was at first reasonable due to the way he acted as he started to make his appearance known (I.e., brag topics). I for one was one of those antifans. At first, desrow was merely a high ladder player with very very modest wins. There was no reason to act like a braggart at this point. But in the last few months not only has his gameplay shaped up but so has his manner. He only blames himself for losses, something that most pros now still cannot do. that's why Im a fan of his now, he really deserves success.
One last thing, lol at people who are attacking desrow for being fat...come on. what kind of pathetic argument is that? You can't comment on his talent because he's actually winning/taking games off of notable pros in tourneys and ladder so now you go back to how he looks? I guarantee half the people talking are probably not very proud of how they look irl themselves. DesRow mentioned that he's beginning a diet due to all the criticism/realization of his unhealthy lifestyle. I think that actual working out is far more important, merely going on a diet isn't enough. Koreans definitely do not look favorably on overweight foreigners, so shaping up on appearance is important. That doesn't mean that he wont be able to go around the streets of Seoul without being gawked at by everyone.

WHAT DOES HIS WEIGHT HAVE TO DO WITH ANYTHING ? i guess we know who the lowlifes are.

Can the mod ban these kids?
WTF man, although we all know he's not comparable to other top NA/EU players level you don't use his physique to do personal attack.

Good luck desrow! Please make sure you stream a lot.

Desrow is a fucking boss for actually wanting to do anything to improve unlike almost every other westener, I can only wish him the best of luck and hope that he eventually will become gosu.

Why would Incontrol go for 1 week ? Does he expect some magic to happen with whole korean team telling him incredible strats or something ? The latency from EG to KR server aint that bad.. He should go for at least 1 month GL to desrow, even thought I think he still have a lot to improve before going there I hope he does well.
he went last year to try to qualify for GSL season 2 or 3 (before code s/code a)

Best of luck to you, desRow, here's hoping for sucess

Good luck to you desRow. I'm sure it'll be a hard journey, with no guaranteed success, but I can respect that you have a dream and are taking actual steps to achieve it.

Its a great opportunity for him and I'm happy he is going but I feel like he could have waited a little bit longer. Just my thoughts though.

Well, I've heard the food that is being eaten in Korean team houses is pretty unhealthy. Not a lot of vegetables etc. And in addition he will most likely be sitting on a chair for the entire day, for six months. When you have a normal body type this is unhealthy already, but it's especially bad when someone has too much weight.
If he has everything so well thought out like some of you people claim, why doesn't he have a solution for his weight problem? Personal health > SC2 imho.

Good luck in Korea!!, Show everyone whos boss. Im rooting for you!!

Hmm sort of split on two sides to this issue.
On one hand I've always admired desrow's attitude; he has shown to be very determined, practices often, has set goals and strives to achieve them. The fact that he is so serious about going to korea and staying for an extended period on his own dime reinforces that, and I admire him for it ( I agree with the dude a few posts up about pros being half-assed and going for a few weeks).
With that said, I don't know why there is this perception but people seem to think Korea is some enhanced anti-grav epic training facility, where you can just rock up, do your thing and leave sometime later being reborn and awesome. I always thought korea was appropriate for people who are at the top of the game in NA and EU servers, where they play the same few people who are also at the top and nobody gives them particular trouble, and so they go searching for harder competition. Even then a lot just choose to play on korean server to get this fix. I don't feel like you can really make the most of training in korea unless you are actually playing customs with the best players over there/living in a team house and really being immersed in the environment and learning something that you wouldn't be able to back on their original server.
Not trying to be rudebut desrow isn't at the top of the game on either NA or EU, and hasn't had any tournament (or ladder for that matter) showings to illustrate why he would be able to make use of what korea has to offer. The best players over there aren't going to play with him if a. they have never heard of him and b. he poses no challenge/they have nothing to learn from him, so I can't see what he has to gain out of going over there (especially as opposed to just playing on Korean ladder).
With that said, maybe even just the GOM team house environment will be able to assist him, and hopefully during his early morning ladder sessions he was able to make some contacts over there that he can play with.
Best of luck man, I admire your dedication, I hope it takes you far.

He's already said he's going to go to the gym in Korea to make up for his decreased ability to eat what he wants and calorie count. So... TA DA?

I believe they have to buy/pay for their own food in the GOMTV house. Also Im quite sure gyms exist in korea if he were to want to go do some work outs. >.>
