However, Idra is amazing too. And he can most assuredly outwork Stephano who has confessed to having a very poor practice schedule. That being said, Idra would benefit a ton from emulating some aspects of Stephano's play. Imagine if you will an Idra that could easily switch between Stephano's style and his own. Talk about scary. Idra's style is scary good but predictable and at certain points exploitable; Idra either looks unstoppable or very weak as a result. The games in which his opponents cannot find holes in his game, he dominates, but when he is figured out he generally will drop a series in spectacular fashion. Adding another viable play-style makes him that much harder to exploit and gives him options on maps that are unfavorable for one style and better for the other. Just look at how much Terran benefits from their variety in their play-styles. Instead of calling Stephano's mineral/zergling heavy play gimmicky, he should master it, even improve it where he can. Even if it is gimmicky and only 90% as effective as your current strategy, being able to throw it out on occasion makes your standard play stronger. I also feel like he could benefit seriously from some forced changes to his mechanics. I don't think he's taking full advantage of changes in SC2 as far as unit control and management are concerned. It's kinda like Sheth's insistence on playing with the keyboard in his lap, someone needs to force him to change his bad habits. Idra and Sheth get away with bad habits because they both have really good control. I'd be willing to bet that Idra's play would improve significantly if he just spent some time forcing himself to adopt a more efficient custom hotkey setup and started hotkeying eggs the same way Stephano does. Seriously watch Stephano and you can see the difference. He doesn't move faster than Idra per say, or even more accurately. But he never wastes time selecting units at a rally point. He never has to think about where his units are. He's using the SC2 interface much better than Idra is. Seriously, ctrl-clicking eggs and adding them immediately to a hotkey group frees up a ton of APM and ensures all your units are always participating in fights. Tricks like these are easy changes to make and have a huge impact on performance. But anyhow, I'm sure this sounds silly; a relative noob giving advice to one of the best players in the game. I'm sure Idra knows what he needs to do. I just very much want to see him dominate. Anyhow feel free to ignore this Adderall-fueled rant. Here's to hoping Idra will win WCG and start crushing face like he should! Go Idra! Edit: Wow forgot to say anything about how awesome it is that he's at Slayers! Egh... time to go to sleep... so i can wake up for WCG! Haha. | ||
