I think that this can only be a good thing for Destiny. Koreans have the stereotypes of having very strict, structured builds, and for a lot of the successful Korean players, that is true. I believe that if Destiny can experience this very refined playstyle and apply it to his very creative, reflexive builds, I really think he can only benefit from this trip.

Best of luck, Destiny!

If Morrow said that right after he arrived in Korea, he lost almost all of his practice games . . . .

A big part of Destiny's time in Korea might just be him being completely crushed by various ST players.

I don't see this amounting to anything. Destiny is basically just a mid-high masters NA Zerg. I'm not sure why ST would let him into their house when there are probably far better candidates on ladder.

Yeah, he has a lot of community support, and saying hes mid-high masters is pretty rough considering hes gm/topofmasters.

im not being negative, sure it would be great for anyone to go to Korea and learn so much within just 3 weeks, but u think about it, is three weeks enough for you to actually learn enough so that u can actually beat high level players? does this mean other players arent practicing while destiny's gone to korea?

plus, it takes weeks to even settle down and just learn their style and get used to them. Ive read and heard what naniwa and huk saying about being in Korea. Naniwa even said it was stupid for Thorzain to go bak to Sweden after just short time at the korea. This strongly indicates that how much time it actually takes for anyone to be able to increase their skill while in Korea.

Odds are its like a trial run. You don't just drop everything and goto Korea with the intent of staying for a very long time. Things might not work out, or it might turn out to be a shitty decision. Giving it a 3 week trial first before actually committing is a very smart thing to do. You test the waters and see if your personality meshes well with the team, and that everything will go as planned etc. Why would you blindly commit to such a longterm endevour? Everyone saying 3weeks is too short is not taking this into effect. For all Destiny/Startale knows they could end up hating each other, and be forced into a situation that would end bad for both sides. At least this way if they dont get along , destiny can leave after his 3 week stay.

Secondly, 3 weeks might not be enough to play as good as the koreans but it will 100% without a doubt open destinys eyes to how they practice in korea, and the difference he has. This is always a positive thing, and something he will be able to pick up even when he returns to NA. Also, 3 weeks will certainly give him the time to have a few korean zergs run through his playstyle and offer suggestions on how to improve it. He might not have the time to mass game endlessly to perfect everything, but simply getting the advice daily from their zerg players will help him out for sure. He can return to NA with new ideas, new timings and builds to work on, and an outlook similar to a professional korean player.

THERE IS NO DOWNSIDE TO THIS TRIP.

yeah, thats a good assumption there eXigent, i will also think it as a trial run and hopefully destiny gets to stay in Korea for at least months. i posted a page or two before that I wanted to know the exact reason why destiny is going to Korea, because like u mentioned three weeks might not be enough. Also, as a player if u are commit to do something u should stick to the task. And I feel destiny is not as dedicated, not just yet, to the game if he is the one who decided to stay only three weeks. Im not saying destiny isnt dedicated, in fact hes one of the most dedicated player who streams the most with a lot of viewers each time.

i think i said this earlier but i will say it again, i respect destiny as player, but as high level player myself(just high master... i can easily get into top 8 spot if i wanted to, but not at the moment) i dont see much gain for destiny flying to Korea for only three weeks. it will give him a taste of what Korean pro gamers do sure.. but will that actually help him in playing sc2? that i have to criticize and say no. thats simply not enough time

Has it ever occurred to people that depending on how this trip goes, there may be more/longer ones in the future? Apparently not.

Well.... yeah. Korean teams work very hard on making ~6-8 players good out of a team of 15-20 players. If you aren't part of that top tier, you're probably going to be relegated to doing things like mastering a single build order so that July can work on his ZvZ. He'll be playing the same build game after game for a couple weeks.

It's pretty much what he does right now only against better players.

This is why I don't think 'skill-tourism' works effectively as practice. Now, if you only play 6 hours a day in NA, and play 16 hours a day in KR, of course the trip will help you get better, of course you'll come home and say "yeah, it really helped my game". But I think those 16 hours would be just as - if not more - effective in NA, with NA players, speaking english, talking about the game.

I'd actually really love to study this because how people learn is a huge turn on for me.

my god. so many people have some stick up their ass about destiny's improvement. everything the guy does there's always a crowd of people sitting there saying "destiny overrated. destiny not improving. destiny wasting time." just let the man do something for once without being so critical.

It's because he's so popular so you'll always have the extreme haters/lovers and the people in between.
I think 3 weeks to korea is good for anyone who takes sc2 seriously as long as your funded because it'll be a nice learning experience. You don't want to plan to go there for a long time and it's not what you expected or just not prepared for it(ex: Sheth)

I really hope he gets more serious about practice, I remember way back when he started practicing customs with Minigun instead of mass laddering. His gameplay improved a lot especially in ZvP and when he eventually made it on ROOT he went even further skill wise. Anyway what im saying is I think he needs to play better and better players in order to improve himself, hopefully while hes in Korea he picks up some pointers to fine tune his game.
