All I'm gonna say is that if she was 100 pounds heavier this interview would have never happened. Which is fucked up.

Breaking news: Attractive young females treated better and given more attention than most other human beings. More at 11.

I kinda don't mind it though. Is anyone really worse off by her getting interviewed/spotlighted? No, and any promotion of sc2 that attempts to shake the image of basement dwelling neckbeard nerd is still good. Her being interviewed really doesn't come at anyone's expense so w/e.

You know what they say about making assumptions....
As far as I'm aware, I haven't heard of ANY female SC2 player that dedicates 8-12 hours of play to hone their abilities. The fact that there aren't any top female players could also just be representative of the lack of females who dedicate themselves to the game full time. I could say that because there are no top tier Nigerian players there is obviously some physical handicap that makes Nigerian players unable to compete at the highest level, when in fact the problem is that Starcraft 2 isn't IN Nigeria. You said it yourself "Putting effort in competing is the essential ability to become a top player in esports" why should female gamers get to take the spotlight away from male players who ARE putting in that effort to compete, when the female isn't even close to the same level of dedication?

So you are basically saying I'm right since you even go as far as saying girls can't dedicate as much time so they are not able to achieve same results as males. I never said they have inferior intellectual capabilities I just said that, for whatever reason, esports is not gender equal, and if you look at the numbers it's pretty self explainatory. And honestly I've never ever met a girl stating the contrary. I just don't understand why so many people are pissed and bring in equality out of nowhere. Please explain.

People don't like the idea of girls gaining popularity simply because they're girls without being good at Starcraft 2 when there are lots of guys out there who are struggling to be known. Read: HOW CUM SHEE FAYMUZ BUT NAWT MEEEEEE?!!!?

What they have forgotten is that those girls actually do work very hard to be the best gamers they can be and a lot of those guys aren't actually as great as they'd like to think.

I definitely agree that we need to actively support equality. Girl gamers are a rarity. There's nothing wrong with interviewers and tournaments actively looking for them. Especially if we're going to encourage other girls to pursue their dream of being a pro gamer.

Wait, what? Work very hard? All she does is play team games. There's plenty of M/GM players at that tournament who have worked their asses off to get to the level they're at in order to do their best to compete. Hell, for the "obligatory female interview", Flo would have been a better choice, at least she puts effort into it. Like a previous poster said, there is nothing regarding the gender that's keeping female gamers out, it's the lack of dedication to it. If they practiced like male gamers, they could perform like them.

The big thing that gets me is the "omfg you sexists" when it's called out that the only reason she's up there was because she WAS female, when it's the obvious truth. Are you content with relegating them as being lessers, and deserving of special attention?

As long as they are such a minority in gaming, yes, I believe they deserve special attention.

No, they should get as much attention as anyone else would.

Not anyone else is a minority.

Affirmative action FTW! I love giving shit to undeserving people.

Probably not nearly as much as you like getting shit just because you happen to be in the majority. You get role models from Starcraft 2. You have players with whom you can identify. You did nothing to deserve them.

What role models do girls get? And why should they have to earn them when you didn't?

What in God's name are you talking about? Please stay on topic. The interview and ailuj have nothing to do with some requirement that you've invented where everyone must have role models made popular.

Not really...

Replace your statement with "100 APM slower" to see what I mean. Not everyone is equal.

What I'm trying to get at is we, as human beings, are interested in each other for many reasons. Some are interested in attractive female gamers. Is there a problem with that? We have the freedom to choose.

Edit: I should clarify and say that we should have freedom of choice. Of course some governments disagree.

ChillgetoutGG quoting Chill. Huh.

Anyway,

Can't we have a thread where people don't have to act "omg im so smart so many things wrong with this thread"?

Girl had fun at MLG, loves the game we love, happens to be fairly attractive (not my type though). Deal with it.

I think she handled herself well and congratulations to her for getting to play on the main stage.

However, I feel that putting any gamer on the main stage, who does not possess the skill to be showcased on the main stage is a mistake - regardless of gender. In this case in particular - I feel that showcasing a low level player as something special - i.e. 'The first female ever!' is somewhat of a mockery of what that honorable position could be. If they wanted to showcase a female gamer - there are high level females who have earned it more, via being of the appropriate skill level.

Yeah! West coast Canada represent! Good to see some Vancouverites making it out to the MLG. Definitely want to have MLG in Vancouver.

More exposure to a hobby I love, intelligent and well spoken person being interviewed, wrecking some preconceived ideas about gamers and especially competitive minded ones. Hmm whats not to like?
Cheers!

She wasn't put on the main stage... she was on the main stage because of Losira.. her opponent. Everyone at that stage in the tournament was playing relatively low level players. While I would say the female that played Jinro gave some pretty good games, I believe it was flo but i'm not sure.

I do agree that MLG probably had someone say "hey we could put so and so on the main stage for first match but Losira is playing this hot chick... "

Does some random diamond player deserve all of this attention? Nope. Is this how every community, for the most part, responds to something new and different? Pretty much. This is a male domintated arena at the moment, so are female's going to get preferential treatment? Yes. Lets just move along and learn to deal with it.

And this woman got no prize money, because she didn't have the skill to compete.

Your problem here?

Are people not in the top 8 excluded from interviews now? Are they not relevant at all?

im pretty sure most gamers in a strange way WANT super ugly girl gamers and are getting annoyed that every girl gamer is hot

i would much rather see a interview with a girl gamer and her be 60 years old and ugly. that way at least i could say "ahhh good see we dont just care about hotness in girl gamers. we just wanna see gamers and the reason these girl gamers are getting attention is because they are girls. and sure if they were guys of the same skill they wouldnt be getting attention but it doesnt matter because gender differences do exist and if the sport was 99% female, and 1% male, then the first few male progamers would also get spotlight like this even if their skill wasnt up to par. its not about a double standard, its simply a fact that men and women are different (however slightly it may be) and if one is a huge majority and another is a small minority, obviously some people will be interested in seeing some spotlight on some in the minority even if their skill in that minority isnt top level"

but with all these girl gamers being hot, all i end up saying it "GOD DAMMIT why is every gamer chick being interviewed super hot? what TEH FFFFFFFF???? ugh its like the interviewer is just trying to gain popularity by throwing a hot chick in our face. why cant you go find some ugly gamer girls dangit i care about starcraft not boobs!!!! "
