Please get over it. So what if she made the main stage because she is a girl. Why does scientist, engineers and researchers not make front page but celebrities do? Some people need to work harder to get the attention they deserve, same for life same for Esports. Instead of criticizing, why not ask what you can do to be interviewed. I don't get all the pointless flaming. If someone gets the pie, we should be happy.

And face the hard truth, I rather watch this interview then another random GM player who is basically going to say the same thing as another random GM.

anyway i know my 2 posts came off as negative but no im glad she's getting the attention i just find very shitty and shady that esfi and csn (seltzer's interview on reddit) go for her because they know it's an easy pick and forget people like vile illusion or vile state. even mlg itself doesn't give enough support/exposure to semi pros who pay out of pocket or have very low budget who go far in the open bracket and it's something that people easily overlook.

I agree that they might deserve some spotlight. But posting here does not really help. Maybe you can do your own interview or find ways to direct attention to them positively? Every effort counts? Honestly is hard to justify who deserve to be interviewed more. Rather then focusing on an endless looping argument, I will say is better to get down and do something yourself.

I'm a player and my job is to compete, not do interviews. The best thing I can do is to be vocal about the issues that most people overlook.

This is true. Really, the issue everyone should focus on is not that she is getting attention, it's that Illusion is not getting enough. Hell, the last 4 people to finish rank 24 at MLGs are Kiwikaki, Moonan, WhiteRa, and Vibe. That's good company. He played really well, and it would nice to see him get an interview.

Edit: Losira is cuter. Dude passed me in the crowd and I was like "who's the cute asian dude...is that losira? Wow."

Having stories/interviews on semi-pro players that make it far in the Open Bracket and interviewing Julia aren't exactly mutually exclusive things. Julia was likely interviewed because the people that cover eSports could make an interesting story out of it and she is very personable.

As far as I'm aware, I haven't heard of ANY female SC2 player that dedicates 8-12 hours of play to hone their abilities. The fact that there aren't any top female players could also just be representative of the lack of females who dedicate themselves to the game full time. I could say that because there are no top tier Nigerian players there is obviously some physical handicap that makes Nigerian players unable to compete at the highest level, when in fact the problem is that Starcraft 2 isn't IN Nigeria. You said it yourself "Putting effort in competing is the essential ability to become a top player in esports" why should female gamers get to take the spotlight away from male players who ARE putting in that effort to compete, when the female isn't even close to the same level of dedication?

So you are basically saying I'm right since you even go as far as saying girls can't dedicate as much time so they are not able to achieve same results as males. I never said they have inferior intellectual capabilities I just said that, for whatever reason,esports is not gender equal, and if you look at the numbers it's pretty self explainatory. And honestly I've never ever met a girl stating the contrary. I just don't understand why so many people are pissed and bring in equality out of nowhere. Please explain.

It actually makes a world of difference. If I CAN'T do something, for instance, playing Soccer professionally because I have an injury in my leg (a true fact by the way), compared to NOT doing something even though it's possible, like dedicating myself full time to Starcraft, it's a choice compared to a physical barrier.

Doesn't change the fact girls never played esports on the same level as the guys at the top so there's no point in whining about the best females players getting spotlight. People are crying over an interview and the fact they decided to put on MLG stage a match of losira vs ailuj. This is so ridicolous it doesn't make sense.

I don't think anything I've said could be remotely construed as whining, I'm simply making the point that it's not a physical difference between female and male esports players. It should also be noted that Julia is not even close to the best female Starcraft players out there. I'm not trying to be sexist, but she's on Check6 for her personality, and her ability to draw attention and viewers, and she was on the mainstage because of her looks, and Losira, not her talent as a player. I happen to do work with a team that had players at Providence, and one of my teammates faced Puzzle not once, but twice. Did he make the mainstage? No, because his skill level wasn't high enough to warrant it. I think in a world that constantly fights over equality, people should actually believe in equality. If you were to look at my other posts about this, or my Twitter, you would see that I'm actually pretty supportive of this girl and her activity in esports, however at this point I think it's a bit silly to be conducting all these interviews and spotlights when she wasn't even the best female player at the event. It's great exposure for CheckSix, but from the outside, ESPECIALLY as a female gamer, it might be LESS productive putting the prettiest girl on stage, over the better player. We don't need the status quo to be seen as "I have to be pretty to be a successful female gamer",

Get over yourself bud. Your teammate wasn't harmed by the girl's game on the main stage. Nor was any other aspiring male semi-pro. If you're involved in a semi-pro team you should have learned by now that esports marketing isn't about divvying out attention based solely on skill. Nor should it be.

Glad to see there are many voices in this thread drowning out the ones claiming sexism against male gamers (lol).

It's not sexism against male gamers that bothers me. It's the sexism TOWARDS attractve female gamers. Your post clearly shows you didn't even understand the majority of what I was trying to convey with my post. What I think was harmed was the female esports scene as a whole.

That's all there is to it o.o; It took me 20 years to get my mother to play games, now she can't believe I've been hogging them from her :/, not only this, at least she competed in the open bracket of one of the hardest open brackets that has been out there to date.

Freakin A, this isn't about white knighting or black knighting, try to keep some personal feelings aside, and understand that more girl gamers = more girl friends that play video games = more things you can do with your gf's.

i wonder if the internet will ever get over if someone is a girl or not. (that was directed to both the haters and the white knights)

Personaly I'm getting tired of so many people on the main stage being men. I don't mind womens only league, mens only, or both combined, but IMO I think there needs to be more focus on a lot of things that are currently ignored in sc2 (another example being 2v2) in order to give competitive gaming some variety. I don't see how most girls would take internet gaming seriously though when comments from both sides just make everyone seem either rude or completely fake ._>

Thumbs up on this. More people getting involve means more recognition. Honestly if I am playing well and not get a interview because of her, I won't even care.
