No tournament is complete without its casters, and we've got nothing but the best for the National Championships. Unfortunately, Day9 will not be able to attend because of a longstanding prior committment. He has been an invaluable part of MLG since StarCraft 2 joined the Pro Circuit; we'll miss him in Providence, and can't wait to have him back next Season!

Really sad news IMO The final tournament of this season without its greatest caster is just terrible
Anyway, I am sure MLG Providence will still be the best and biggest MLG to date!!!
Casting in Providence will be the all-star team of Tasteless, Artosis, djWheat, Husky, Mr Bitter, and JP McDaniel. We're very happy to have Mr Bitter back at MLG after his incredible performance in Anaheim.

This has been known for a long while, he's going to be in a wedding for gods sake. In fact, its rumored that a showing of MLG Providence will be held at the wedding in question! In any case, tastosis is there, I ain't complaining.
still a pretty good collection of casters, Mr. bitter being a great addition but a starcraft 2 event without day9 just feels like something is missing.
Even though there's tastosis, I sometime prefer day9 + wheat since they do a good job hyping up matches. (last MLG during idras run) But would be awesome if it was bitter + rotti.

That's crazy talk! I'll take moletrap over Mr bitter.
I wasn't being sarcastic T_T MrBitter is really good, Moletrap not so much lol
Heh neither was I. Mr. Bitter isn't my cup of tea. I don't really hate any casters, but Mr. Bitter would be on the lower end of my fav caster list. I'd take gretorp over bitter too. Plus I like moletrap.
Well, that definitely made me less excited for Providence...
Day9 is practically a signature caster for MLG at this point. The last mlg was missing wheat and now this one is missing day9, gosh such horrible timing xD Atleast nestea is gonna be there playing however
This is sad news, of course. I find the Day9 and Djwheat combination very strong and enjoyable to listen to.
If anyone needs cheering up or is feeling less excited now...please refer to the player list for this tournament and think about how epic it's going to be!
I really liked the Mr. Bitter and Husky combination at MLG anaheim so I think its a good replacement. Never a big Day9 fan as a caster anyways but its a shame that he won't attend the biggest MLG event of the year as he's an iconic part of it.
I would have loved to see Rotterdam come over with MrBitter so they can play ladder 2v2 during the breaks. But more seriously, I really think that some of the European casters do deserve a shot at an MLG in the next season, especially if more Europeans keep coming over to the events. Rotti and Apollo are probably top 2 on that list. I do understand that this is an American LAN, so of course it stands to reason that American casters are probably preferable, but at the same time I think that given the chance guys like Rotti and Apollo will impress.

He's a great host, but personally I do not like him casting games.
Yo sundance. Call Apollo/TB.
OH YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think his commentary has been steadily improving, though the issue is that between he and Artosis (Global Invitational Team) there is not enough hype/enthusiasm. They're a little too similar in their tone, and JP seems to just sit there and ask Artosis a tonne of questions about what the players are doing and why it's good. I don't know, I guess I'll have to wait and see if he casts with anyone else, because with a different partner the dynamic might be completely different.
On Apollo, I definitely believe he deserves a shot. He's very smart and commentates the game well. As for TB, I don't feel that he knows the game quite well enough (only being a Gold player who doesn't play that much). Also, there are plenty of casters out there who fulfil his function (hype/excitement) just as well if not better than he does.

It was quiet common in the Brood War casters because we didn't have any fancy graphics and overlays. Now for stuff like GSL which he casts in, all the winrates and recent tournament results are all shown pre-match graphics...Plus it isn't -that- hard to type in a players name in TLPD...
From all the early GSL casts I can remember it was Interrupt-trap which really made him unbearable.

Well said mate! This is the only mlg I'll probably be able to spectate, so I'm kinda bumbed I can't meet him.
I hope Tastosis will cast alot now and not just cast on the evening/important matches. I will kick myself in the nuts if it will be alot of dual stream with like djwheat and JP -_-;;
Lets look at it this way either Day9 has some very important personal issues he has to attend to OR it's hopefully something E-sports related that is bigger than the final MLG for 2011.

Ugh MrBitter is really not casting material (only good for commentary) and JP is pretty bland too. I will miss the djwheat Day9 combo, they fit each other very well and are both able to hype up and excite games a lot from their enthusiasm!

I seem to be one of the few who think this is good. It will give some chance for other casters to really be seen, instead of reddit being flooded of Day9's antics w/ djWHEAT (not accusing WHEAT, he is def top 3 best caster imo.)
Only thing that bothers me is JP. Sorry bro, but you just don't cut it for casting these days. You should stick to being host.

I don't like Bitters when he is casting a player he particularly likes. He is super super super biased and it is painful to watch, otherwise I think he is ok.

You're right about JP, though. He's principal in SotG and his MLG interviews aren't bad, but casting? Nah.

Like another has said already, it wouldn't be an MLG without Day9 (and his collection of testicles). I watch for Day9... I'll still watch, but it won't be the same.

Pretty sure that isn't implied.
Think of the set "the best" - here day9 is but a proper subset. "Nothing but the best" implies that the set MLG Providence casters is a different proper subset of the "best".
Awww... Last MLG, I brought my boyfriend to a BarCraft and told him to listen to Day9 and his awesome analysis.
My sister, my friends and (hopefully) my brother is coming for next week's MLG BarCraft. They won't get to listen to Day9's awesome analysis and sexy voice.
Well, i'ts not like i watch the MLG stream with day9 sice they've been inviting tastosis, but still a shame. But, he can't miss his friends wedding, especially if he's the best man.

Awww man =( I live in RI and this will be my first event... its disappointing to hear that Day[9] won't be casting there =(
Edit: Seeing his reason makes it pretty understandable, not that I would expect him to miss and MLG without something really important going on in his life. Don't worry Sean! Sure a lot of people will be disappointed but considering all of the events you DO go to as well as all the other things you do for everyone outside of just casting events, don't sweat it! The event will be awesome nonetheless. Just a little less awesome =P
I like the Tastosis stream better anyway, you can't split the two which is why they call them the casting archon! I like Day[9] and djWheat but i'm not a huge fan of Husky's voice which is why I prefer Tastless/Artosis.
On the bright side for him - a bit more time for Skyrim ^_^ (being the best man at a wedding won't take him as much time as the whole package for MLG casting).
i would honestly really have liked to see rotterdam if they were willing to fly mr. bitter out. jp is cool in general but he just doesn't do it for me as a caster

I cant fathom how people have a problem with MrBitter casting and no body whines about Husky? Bleugh, but on another note I will miss Rotti He should totally be there with MrBitter!
Well here is my unpopular opinion: I'm fine with it, his casting is bad (alternate yelling / whispering for no reason); and his analyzing is too often incorrect. (Makes me doubt he even is master)

Day9 is skipping MLG for a wedding? The nerve of that guy! Seriously, though, we're lucky to have so many well-qualified casters who can step in for someone like him. I always enjoy Mr Bitter's casting, so I can't say I'm disappointed with the lineup. Now if only MLG could find a way to get Apollo and Rotterdam in on the action...
Considering the stacked roster of this MLG, its still going to be the best MLG SC2 wise we have ever seen, i am sure Sean would have loved to have been there, but you cant just skip a friends weeding, if you do, i am sure you will lose that friend forever.
Thank god. And not for the reason you're expecting.
I hate when he does casting because I want him doing the daily. He's much more interesting and entertaining in that outlet, and I actually don't like his casting for some reason.

Day9's casting isn't as good at big events as it is at home imo. Obviously he's still very good, but I'd rather see day9 missing than Tastosis missing.
It'll be a great event even without him, and as long as it's only due to a prior commitment (and he comes back for the next MLGs) it'll be fine.

I can't name a single sports commentator, and they are mostly annoying to me.
Someone wrote already that he would be in wedding as bestman, if that is the case, perhaps people should stop spamming Skyrim, or "bad planning" by him.
I have no idea beside that rumour, but I'm sure he has a proper reason to do it, that we have no right to whine of.
u should try contact apollo. Kid knows the game and is fun to listen to. Unlike a couple of guys in ur current casting team. But not bad anyway. Will see day9 next season again

Idk you but is really hard for me care about the game if I don't like the casters, Day[9] will be missed but at least we still have tastosis
Wheat + Bitter will do fine IMO! Day9 can't cast every tournament in the world for the next 10 years. The casters they have for Providence are as good as any
I'm gonna be sad to not see Day[9], but Tastosis is always amazing, and I always thought the Husky/djWheat/Mr. Bitter combo worked really well when they all mix around.

but i can understand his priorities on this one. there will be dozens of mlgs in the future, but there will (hopefully ) be only one wedding of his BFF.
I'd have liked to have seen Apollo or Wolf get invited to cast alongside Husky. I don't think there's anyone better than Day[9] to cast with Husky, but I feel that those 2 would do the best job. It would be interesting to see Husky cast with Tasteless or Artosis, but I doubt that will happen.

Weird choice of words. Casters are there to do what they do. The players are measured by performance. When it comes to casting you either get it or you don't.

wat? when I turned on the world series, I knew it would be Joe Buck commentating, but to be honest, i couldn't care if he was there or not because its the freaking world series.
commentators in sports do aid in the viewing of the game from a home perspective, but the majority of people watching the event live don't really care about the commentators (some people will still listen to the game on the radio at the event, i think its kinda weird but it happens). I even mute some of the commentating of live sporting events because I don't agree with the guys commentating it. Don't think anyone in the major sporting world goes "what!? OMG Kirk Hirbstreet isn't commentating the ohio state vs michigan game this year!? i'm not gonna watch it then."

I feel with such a strong lineup of casters the others can more than take his place. As a matter of fact the others are stronger casters in my opinion.
It just sucks cause this is the only MLG I'm going to live. Massachusetts is kinda far from the rest of the spots, so this is gonna be the one I go to, and Day9 isn't going to be there. I understand the reason, just makes me sad is all.

The day9 and Husky combo was so good, I'll miss the djWheat and appollo one as well.
This is great news for me :D I dont like day9 and I really dont like his casting. I dont really understand why they keep bringing back Husky. His casting is terrible.
Who is Mr. bitter?
IMO Tastosis should cast every single MLG event. They are the most entertaining by far, they have the best casting by far, and they are just great people.
Wheat is ok. I dont mind his casting. He isnt really annoying to me.
Overall I think this MLG will be better just because day9 isnt there. I am looking forward to this event. Hopefully less mirror matches. GL to all the players.
Glad Day[9] isn't coming. Mr. Bitter is pretty crappy and annoying, but Tastosis and Wheat are all good. So long as Tastosis cast the final, I'll be very happy.
No offense to day9 but i would rather day9 misses the event then tastosis, as horrible as that sounds i think tastosis are just a cut above any other caster(s)

Probably because 99,999% of their audience isn't you and I surmise that at least some of those 99999 viewers appreciate his casting.
Husky has 589,852 subscribers at youtube (impressive!) and chances are a good few of them will be watching MLG.
So, a lot of people really like Husky, a lot of people think that he is a good caster without necessarily being super-fans and some people hate his casting.
It makes (business) sense if the fans outnumber the "anti-fans" of Husky. That is probably why they (which is to say we, the viewers) bring back Husky, because he puts bums on pews, as it were.

Wow, you literally didn't state one reason why you rate any of the casters as that. At least the guy you were quoting gave a reason, he finds fault with Mr.Bitter's game knowledge.
Personally, DJ Wheat is tied with Appolo for my 4th favorite caster behind Tastosis and Day9. DJ wheat is INCREDIBLY involved in the entire e-sports scene, he is witty, and has great game knowledge (better than Husky's for example).

I disagree. I like Mr Bitter, I'd also like to point out that he is high masters (I've met him myself) and a former semipro so I doubt he's totally clueless like you're claiming.

He is going... to a wedding. Would you rather they rearrange MLG around Day9's friends wedding?

no, the friend should move his wedding! He's killing esports!!! /tongue in cheek
SO LAME. HOWEVER, Having Mr.Bitter back is super super awesome. As sad as I am that Day[9] can't be there, I'm really pumped that Mr.Bitter has an opportunity to cast again. <3
Immediately thought of a Vice City dialogue between Tommy and Sonny for this topic (here) :D
TL: Hey Sean, it's TeamLiquid. How's MLG? Day9: I ain't going to MLG. TL: Well, you ain't staying for SotGs, either, so I'm wondering to myself, what are you doing? So, tell me, Sean, what are you doing? Day9: I'm working on eSports, TL. Don't worry. TL: I am worrying, Sean, that's my style, because I seem to have this problem in my life with unreliable people. Don't be an unreliable person, Sean, please. Do us both a favor. I'm looking forward to hearing from you.

Husky and me casted together at Anaheim ^^
edit: obviously it was memorable for you
What I mean by that is that the K9 combo worked better than you and Husky
I know Husky has casted before w/o Day9 and with you and multiple others like in MLG Orlando BTW, I would love it if you helped us get the CSL more mainstream

In which case it won't be his first time. ^^
Shoot me a PM. I'm always looking for new projects to help promote.
I appreciate that a lot of people like day[9] a huge amount, and I am sorry they wont get to enjoy him there. However I dont enjoy his casting, so this is great news for me. Now JP needs to just step into a backstage role, and life as an MLG spectator will be peachy and informative.
Shame no Rotterdam/Bitters, but I guess cotnracts and allegiances wont allow that at MLG.
Missing out on Day9 sucks, but I do always enjoy MrBitter's style. So I'm looking forward to it all the same.
Besides, I hope Day9 will make a last minute appearance at MLG, taking a HUGE round of applause when he enters the stage. And then Huk can type "Don't worry that's Day9".

I definitely am watching the stream, but I REFUSE to buy another season pass if Day9 is not part of the casters. They expect me to listen to DJ Wheat's inane babbling? Hell to the Fucking NO!
