It may be a slowly dying industry with the advent of online booking but people do still use them, especially when they need less hassle to arrange for connecting flights. The only instance it could happen in the Philippines is he had a long standing relationship with the agency or the "guarantor" had a long standing relationship with the agency. So I would say that Amanda named herself as the guarantor and Gus' name was nowhere in the deal if she's that worried of "jail time". But still it defies logic that a business would simply agree to shoulder the tickets upfront without any long standing relationship with the person/company/entity. 200kphp was given as a down payment. I guess that made it seem like payments could be made without incident. (source: http://www.teamliquid.net/blogs/viewblog.php?topic_id=283600 edit 12)

If Gus didn't encourage it.... it's just in bad taste. He hasn't done anything to earn our appreciation quite yet. Edit: looks like someone already posted this a page back and in the other thread, my bad. That's damage control. If people outside e-sports google his name they will see that first

Plus, the 200k downpayment would make anyone look legit. And to go ridiculously off-tangent, people here have been killed for a LOT less money than what we're talking here.

And I don't care what excuse he has, all these occurrences are more than a kowinky-dink and just makes him a fucking scumbag and makes AZK look really bad.

Mineski condemns any action that would harm the e-sports industry that we and all Pinoy gamers have been trying hard to build up throughout the years. Let us know if we can help, I'm the director of Mineski Events Team and spearheads all e-sports events from our organization. We may be known for DotA but we still have SC2 events....they may be small but we feel we are taking the right step towards making it grow. Please don't judge PH e-sports by this incident alone. We did have successful events for SC2 but I think this will be overshadowed by this incident

Clive was asked to sign for the hotels, Amanda was the travel agent who issued the tickets for most of the talent and players. Amanda post paid for the tickets with the agency, if Gus doens't pay her the agency can run after her and put her in jail. Clive's hotel debt is 37,000 Pesos ($900~) & Amanda's agency debt is 516,000 Pesos. ($12,000~) Gus is not appearing nor answering. Clive is stuck here in the hotel till we get this solved today. That is brutal. The 900 dollars can be paid by Clive if he really needs to do it. It wouldn't be fair, and it is a huge chunk of money, but I'm sure he could find it to avoid jail time... but $12,000 just won't happen. I hope things work out (if they haven't already... I'm not really keeping up with this stuff). Edit: Apparently TheGunRun payed the hotel bill to help Clive out, for those like me who couldn't follow the situation too well.
