CheckSix Gaming is pleased to announce the signing of Juan "MajOr" Lopez, a former member of Sixjax and ROOT; he has recently been practicing in Korea alongside TeamSCVLife. His accomplishments are well-known, including a first place finish at the BlizzCon Latin America Invitational and an impressive open bracket run that landed him in pool play at MLG Columbus earlier this year. We at CheckSix believe that we can provide the atmosphere, teamwork and community needed to foster such a strong player.
Juan has returned to North America after time well spent in Korea and to mark a fresh start for him, he will now be known as xSixwinDy. He will be joining PainUser, ThisIsJimmy, Syckness and many others at MLG Providence as a member of the CheckSix team, and then making his return to Korea in January in a bid to compete for Code A GSL. He will be staying in Korea for at least 4 months to focus solely on obtaining a Code A spot and training for the upcoming MLG events. Both CheckSix and Juan look forward to your support in his fight to obtain a GSL spot.
Juan “xSixWinDy” Lopez commented below:
I am so excited to come to CheckSix and show great results. We will show all that we are a great team with good players. Thank you to CheckSix for the opportunity to prove myself. You may also follow me on my new Twitter account @x6winDy.
Commenting on behalf of CheckSix Gaming, Team Operations Director, Michael "GeneralHans" Starr provided the below statement:
I am extremely proud of the signing which brings Juan onboard our team; he is an exceptionally talented player who can only grow in time. We understand Juan has had a checkered past with organizations from time-to-time, but we are confident in speaking with him that he is completely dedicated to both CheckSix and his game. Thank you all for the continued support.
As usual, none of this would be possible without the amazing support from out sponsors TteSPORTS, Puretrak and GamersUniform. For updates on CheckSix Gaming and Juan, you may follow us on the normal social media sites listed below:
Oh, wow. Wasn't expecting this, I won't make any jokes because I believe in second new chances, so good luck to him. Hopefully he'll be there for a while and bring a lot of success. And I like his new name. GosiTerran still sounds the best though.
Wait he changed his nick again?! Oh well, good luck to him in CheckSix, lets hope he stays there and stays out of trouble, will be interesting to see if the korean practice will pay off.
LOL another team is picking this kid up.....kudos to xsix for giving him another chance, because every other team in the scene knows that Major leaves a path of destruction and desecration in every team he joins. I forsee the collapse of xsix within the next 6 months.
Wow, changing his AKA again? This kid does not know how to stay with something. I actually thought Major was a decent & unique aka... Regardless, good luck to checksix and Juan.

He was never in TSL, just practicing, I think language barrier messed that up. They all like him though, and aLive suggested to Coach Lee that he become a full TSL member. Nevertheless, a Korean team with no money? Any foreign player would be dumb to take that offer when there are foreign teams with big bucks. The only one I can think of is Fenix, and he did it purely for practice.
Good pickup by x6, congratulations. Hopefully everything works out well
i give it a month, going by history at least...im honestly amazed that he got picked up by a team i was so sure he would end up in TSL (he's still there right?) and that no foreign team would take him anymore

They really should make a liquibet for this.
And then when he leaves make a liquibet on what team he will go to next. That one would be kind of hard because there is literally very few teams left that would take him.
ehh, I wish that people like major are reprimanded by the community and don't get so many chances while there are tons of strong up and coming players who only need a strong team to rise to the top. I guess I should say GL to xsix, but at this point I think that they have to prove that they are trying to reform major rather than just get the publicity out of him.

I prefer to use Princesskitty until he chooses a permanent name. Good for him but I wonder how long he'll stay with CheckSix considering his team history. If he truly changes then that's amazing, good luck to both parties.

But the TSL Coach did say that he would consider adding Major if Major performed well. Considering Major's fascination with Korean SC2, I can't imagine a scenario where Major declines TSL to join CheckSix

Take Artosis's words with a grain of salt when he's talking about players he is either heavily biased for or against.
MajOr was just looking for a team that could provide him the opportunity to stay in Korea. I'm pretty sure CheckSix is not counting on him to be an exceptional team member as much as a good player. He's shown in the past that he can be pretty immature whenever things are not working out as he expected.
everytime he joins a team, I see the same statement from all the teams, they're like ex-girlfriends coming back and saying: "I know he'll be truly faithful to me this time"

But aquiring a player knowing that he is a flight risk as a team that is relatively young and somewhat unknown (at least to me) seems to be a good way to get your team known though.

Ok then hans, tell me: was grabbing Painuser and HDGamer a publicy stunt? What was the number 1 thing they gave to the team? I would venture to say that it was publicity rather than solid players that you could play in leagues or players to partcipate with the team and the community? I'm not saying it will be the same with major because he is primerally a player, unlike Painuser and HD, I'm just saying please don't bend the truth to make yourself look better in a TL thread.

Sir, CheckSix has been around for 8 years with a quite known history maybe not the most known in SC2, but hardly a reason for a "PR stunt". We truly feel Juan adds to this team with his play and that's it.

As a Starcraft 2 team x6 has been around pretty much since the beginning; longer than MVP or NSH for example. It's lower profile to be sure, but how many North American teams aren't? (other than Complexity and EG)
I think you answered your own question as to why Windy keeps getting chances, he's a Blizzcon finalist who's still young even by SC2 standards. People see the talent and will make allowances / take chances. Also they see the age and see potential and hope that he'll grow up. After all, that certainly worked for Dignitas and Naniwa.

He did, doesn't mean he was right. Coach Lee later clarified that Major was invited to live/practice with the team, but not join them in an official capacity (presumably it was a try out or exchange program or something).
Edit: Artosis was probably really excited and I don't think his Korean is business transaction level nor is Coach Lee's English. So misunderstandings like this aren't unreasonable.

Unfortunately he's a very talented player with a poor attitude. Some companies still see the value in his raw skill but haven't come to realize that he's actually just a bad person. Maybe being in Korea with Artosis will stem his behavour but I don't get it personally. He's been given so many chances by so many teams, it's getting to be a running joke of the eSports scene.
He can make pretty good nicknames when he tries I must say. I like both MajOr and WinDy.
Checksix is pretty smart picking him up. Through his stream I can see that he is becoming beastly; his mechanics look as good as korean pros and IdrA. Even though he is terrible at the whole "team" thing, I think he is good enough for a lesser known team such as checksix.
Good luck to check six. I hope Juan settles down and becomes a manner player. Would really like to support him for his play but his out of games actions are a little too disappointing to really support him at the moment. Hopefully he changes for the better with Check six.
On November 04 2011 08:39 mki wrote: Hopefully Major won't go crazy ape shit like in every other team. Good luck CheckSix!
At this point Major switching team and ids has as much empirical evidence as the theory of gravity. We don't really understand how or why it works the way it does, but we just know that Major won't be on checksix in 6 weeks (and gravity will likely still work in 6 works, but that is slightly less certain).
Every team that he has been on has thought that they can provide everything that he needs to keep him around. It is much more of a hassle to keep this kid happy than he is worth. I guarantee that he leaves the team within a year, his only problem is that he gets bored with whatever team he is on too quickly and wants to leave. I don't think there is any team that can keep him indefinitely.
Better just learning his real name because the nicknames get kind of confusing when so many changes, also I thought he had a trial for TSL first? Or did Artosis mess everything with that up?

First he joins SIXjacks with thanks to artosis, then he joins checkSIX with thanks to artosis OBVIOUSLY.
lol. Major is actually a badass name, I have no idea why he keeps changing it. Also, when did he come back to America. I know he was playing cgs with Sheth, Destiny and Catz recently, so I figured as much, but I'm still surprised that it happened. I thought he was going to be like HuK or Naniwa and just stay in Korea for ages.

It does mess up his branding quite a bit. Unless he specifically changed his name to "clean his slate," which is not so far-fetched. I'd like to believe for x6's sake that the acquisition will last, but given MajOr's past history, I'm a little apprehensive. There's also the fact that he doesn't really care for sponsor promotion.
The TSL manager came out and said that he was not a member of the team. They were just letting him stay there to practice; he didn't quit. he came back to play in Blizzcon Coach Lee's twitter: major joins TSL news is wrong. just practice in TSL house. #SC2

good luck to Major. Strong pickup for xSix.. they are one of the top NA teams. If you people dont know about it. They were division leaders in ESEA and were in the finals against EG.(xSix won via disqualification as EG couldnt play their games.which is sad)
I think Juan is really talented and one of the most hard working foreigners. He will stop being a kid and doing stupid things eventually so better have him on your team when that happen.
This is almost not thread worthy anymore. Can we have a generalized thread where Major moves from [insert team A] to [inseart team B] and bump it every time he switch teams? But I guess its always good to have some drama even though its repetitive to say the least.

I'm sliiiightly disappointed only because I was hoping TSL would pick him up as a full member. However it's totally understandable why they wouldn't be quite ready to go that far. It's nice enough of them to let him stay with them and practice.
I'm very glad to see Juan on a new team that is excited to support him. I hope to see him in Code A soon and in Korea for a long time!

Yeah that's a good point man. I'm pretty sure he is always being honest and genuine when he states his dedication and desire to behave well in the future. He really seems like a nice honest guy who is just kind of immature with poor impulse control. So I think he's always being honest when he says these things, but then when he gets upset sometimes he fails at self-control and behaves poorly. He is usually regretful later and I think he will learn to discipline himself better over time. He is only 18 and I made many similar mistakes at that age!
Also about the checksix roster, I'm pretty sure he is immediately their best player by far unless they're hiding somebody I don't know about.
To be fair the last two he left teams gave little support for their players. Root never really took off, and SixJax deteriorated. Hopefully x6 will be good.
I really hope this works out for him. If this falls through for him its not likely that any teams will be willing to pick him up. Anyways I really hope it does go well because I like watching him play. GL Juan :D

Well, I've just lost a little respect for xSix after they were really starting to come to the fore of my mind as a team to really watch out for. I don't mean I'd feel disrespect for Checksix, but I don't understand why any team would accept him after all of his behaviour. He shows no sign of changing, no interest in treating most opponents like anything but dirt and no interest in treating any teams like anything but dirt. Good luck to the team, but not to him. Most people should know that this is warranted. -_-"
I think it would have been fantastic if Checksix had somehow found a polite way to announce him without using any words like "proud" or "pleased" (to announce) and instead just 'announced'. That would have been a more enjoyable read. :D

GL to him. He's 18 guys. Kids do stupid things sometimes. Has he really hurt anyone? Honestly, some of the responses here are acting like he deserves to be impoverished for being immature and BM...
Major seems to be a supremely risky pickup every time. He claims to be different now than he was in BW, yet he's seen no fewer than three different SC2 teams. The attraction is the raw talent he exhibits, but troubling is that this late into the game what we still see is just that - raw talent. He'll need to settle down, and practice and learn, if he wants to make any progress on actually picking his reputation back up.

He'll need to settle down, and practice and learn, if he wants to make any progress on actually picking his reputation back up.
Not to take anything off of juan cuz he's a very good player but I wouldn't go as far as saying it's raw talent
Lol at people being surprised he left tsl, he was never on tsl. He was just training in the tsl house. I think majors a great player, I love his gaseless fast expand play. He's one of my favorite Terrans, and I wish he participated in more tournaments.

Never mind I re read that and I'm not sure what you are trying to say
I thought his dreams were to be the best player he could be? You can only really do that in Korea.
I'm disappointed, I'm always drawn to people who truly want to be the best they can be, but when players do stuff like this it makes me respect them less(kinda like how I didn't like it when sheth left korea)

Hmm, well I guess good luck Juan? Another team, another name. I hope they both stick this time. I'll cheer for you to get code A. That would be cool to see.

SjoW is going back after new year, he left Korea because there were so many tournaments upcoming, he had to play in eswc, Iem, providence, dreamhack winter and asus rog, it would be pretty retarded for him to stay there if still has to travel to another continent every week.

The message I'm trying to convey is that why are people bashing Major for leaving Korea despite the fact that he plans to go back soon? I'm not saying that SjoW must be hanged for leaving Korea.

Different initial situations. Had Sjow left his old team in a messy fight based on his strong with to go to Korea, had Sjow always said that his ultimate goal is to live and train in Korea, and then left Korea after a couple of months, then he would've proved that all his big words before were nothing but lies and would've gotten quite a lot of flak (at least from me) as well.
The bad thing is some people believed Major and defended him in that messy sixjax situation saying "can you blame a player that dedicated to the game, who only aims to get the best practise and who would even leave his family, his friends, and his country to achieve that goal"? I am so disappointed because that's actually what I thought.

You care about this a little too much bud. Players are allowed to have lives outside of Starcraft and legitimate reasons to take breaks from Korea. What you actually just said is that in order to be legitimate in your eyes, Major should "leave his family, his friends, and his country" in order to train in Korea. That statement is especially ridiculous considering the fact that you're quoting TL forum posters' impression of what Major's intention, and not Major's own words.

Fair enough. We're absolutely not trying to tell x6 how to recruit their players (at least, I'm not). You call the shots, and if x6 decides he needs a chance, then good for MajOr. I just hope this works out for both of you; after all that has happened. If it does, though, I genuinely believe he will accomplish great things under x6.

Love how TL forum posters act when they have a chance to talk directly to someone they perceive to be in a position of power. This post served absoutely no purpose, and he offered no reasoning for his belief that PR factored into the decision to sign Major (and completely ignored the incredible risk associated with signing someone like Major mainly for publicity purposes). He basically just said "I feel like I have a little bit of power over you right now, and your'e wrong. So there." Others have chastised GeneralHans as if they have a bone to pick with him. Honestly you people either a) care way too much about relatively minor changes in eSports teams or b) have way too much time on your hands to vent negativity on internet forums. Or all of the above.

well, I don't think any teams were planning to have him in short term as well...the question is can he last until your long term comes in play
i hope his play isnt as inconsistant as his teams and IDs or he will never make it anywhere.
he needs to hunker down and get something done rather than hopping around from place to place. I hope he calms down and starts to focus intensely on the bigger picture, because right now i feel like he's not concentrating and doesnt have his eyes on the prize
gl to him and gl to xsix, i hope he sticks to his guns for once for both parties sake

Whether you're new to this or not, it's still a decision that is going to be magnified due to his past dating back to BW where he had a tendency to clan-hop and basically try and play by his own rules. The fact that you didn't expect a backlash of any kind is slightly shocking - he's an extremely controversial player, and unlike Idra or some other players who make a lot of noise, he doesn't have a lot of notable results to back up his attitude.
I like him at tournaments; he makes things interesting especially when he and Incontrol go head to head. His behavior outside of live LANs is offputting however. Either way hopefully he makes the best of this.

Why count just the teams he has dropped in SC2? Why not count the ones in BW aswell?
I could understand it if the case was that he had stopped doing it for a while when he started playing SC2, then that would have been a fresh start. As it is now it´s a consistant trend that has been going on since BW, therefore I think you should count that aswell.

You're getting a little good PR out of this. I for one think more highly of CheckSix after reading the post that I just quoted. A lot of people on the internet are pretty quick to judge, and I bet most of them have made their own mistakes in the past...
yup, people is always quick o judge, I dont know If he'll stay here for his entire life, what I see here is very good oportunity for both, Juan and CheckSix. I don't know how far it will go but I would love to see juan going to MLG and GSL, enough said
He's a dedicated player, and i feel like his last team appeared to be messing him around with their intentions. Hopefully things can be right now.
Why so many people have a personal opinion on him in every thread i don't know... guys who weren't around back when he was gost[terran] just turning up and giving their thoughts and joining the bandwagon.

We have been doing this for years, and we understand the pros and cons and weighed them thoroughly before picking him up. It's obvious this is not a PR decision, as it's not exactly getting the most pleasing comments. CheckSix is not in this for the short-term; we do not make decisions ever based on a short-term result. This is team #4 by my count (ROOT, Sixjax, TSL [supposedly] and now x6).
He was never on TSL. That is 2 teams in SC2, if you don't count CheckSix. edit- and as others have pointed out both teams have since dissolved, so even had he stayed on both sinking ships till the end he'd still be in the position he is now.
That doesn't excuse his immature behavior. Frankly I think that tournaments need to be more strict on players who act in poorly mannered ways, whether it's taking a game away from them or something else, there's really no excuse for it.
Kinda disappointed by this.. So Major leaves Sixjax in order to join Checksix?... Doesn't seem like much of an upgrade, but maybe someone can tell me otherwise. I expected him to join a more proven team.

Major didn't leave, Sixjax released him. Check-Six is more well known in the gaming community than Sixjax and they're more financially stable.

I hope he sticks to a nickname and use them in battle.net because with so many aka's just mess up with the general organization of tournaments.
Blizzard, we need nick changes for free... this ain't wow, people do actually change teams frequently.
You can still get a free name change if you wish... just have to email some blizzard representative and they are usually alright doing it for you for a valid reason (changing teams, find your name offensive, etc..)
