I think that pretty much describes everyone. The regular season is just fun because you get to see some top players play, but this is when the games really begin to matter.
Ok so when I attended NASL finals 1, it was one of the most awesome experiences ever. At that same point in time I was sad because I thought a situation where an esports event would be within driving distance would never happen again, forever.
SEASON 2 FINALS ARE IN THE SAME LOCATION BITCHES. Will definitely try to make it, and even if its half as good as the first time around, it will still be freaking awesome. Better prize distribution than last time. Still not as good as IPL's, but a step in the right direction.
Looking at the thread activity compared to Season 1, Season 2 regular games completely tanked, but I'm sure the finals will see good numbers. I'll certainly watch.

There's still 5 Koreans in the groups and it looks like at least 3 of those have very good chances of reaching the finals (Hero, Puma, Rain).

Yea I watched NASL S1 like everyday, S2 whenever I look its league. So yea, sorry for not keeping up.
Bo5 Ro16 is much better than last season's single elimination best of 3. Really looking forward to the grand finals. I haven't been able to follow the regular season as much as I want to unfortunately.
I don't want to click all those spoiler tags. I don't see any reason to format the post this way beyond saving grief for people who aren't caught up. And to be honest, if they're going to click on the grand final post then they deserve to be spoiled.
Hmm. Attending the NASL finals would be a great way to kick off my winter break. Still have to see whether the players who make it to the playoffs interest me though.
Omg I'm so hyped right now reading this! The fact that there are no Bo3 makes it even better, I much more enjoy Bo5 and Bo7 for the EPIC comebacks they can generate.
I just wished I would have budget or time to physically be there... and no chance for my small town to have a barcraft or anything :/

Why such a huge difference? :S
Why not? the lower prize money is still quite good and the winner should by all means get a big chunk of the prize pool. The finals will essentially be played for 20k, one match, awesome. Hopefully Strelok gets through to the finals so he can get what he deserved last time Now I am worried that the choice of words for the upcoming casters were "fun"...

To be fair, most of them are TBA, so it would be pointless.
NASL definitively needs to change the tournament for next season. Half way through the season we pretty much know who half of the playoff players are going to be and who's not going to make it and it creates matches that don't matter anymore.

Just like real sports!
Unfortunately I feel like Starcraft can't really adapt that strategy considering it isn't nearly as large with as many viewers.
didn't renew my sub for season 2, maybe maybe maybe watched 1-2 total games this season.
I'm just not feeling NASL I don't know why. Last season it seemed like a choir to have to watch it everynight because I paid for it. I got really disinterested in how I watched all the games last season, watched the players grow, etc then some random guy that I never heard of at the time (puma) comes from the open bracket and wins the 50k.
I thought it was really wrong for players that had to be consistent for WEEKS offline/online event for someone to just come from an online tournament to take it all.
oh well I might turn in and watch the finals not sure hope it goes well..
I hate to admit this, but my first thought was, "will Lindsey Sporrer be present?" I was really excited for NASL and loved the season 1 finals, but the Korean pullout and the general esports explosion simply dropped NASL from my radar. I hope Idra or Jinro can still make the playoffs.

On the same page as you buddy. Watched week one and two of S1, and some of the finals. Haven't seen a single NASL s2 game. It's free SC2 stream overload, and most of those streams have better Res.
Decent player list and should definitely watch the finals.
Some of the players below them that are in contention are a chance (Hasu, Ret / Glade, Brat_ok) but I doubt the divisions will move that much.
edit: I'd also like to echo the sentiments of others that I didn't pay for a pass this season. I was all for supporting this but only being able to watch VoDs in 1080p sucks if you live in Australia (actually have to wait about 1 hr for a game to buffer). Why isn't multiple resolutions available for selection with VoDs? Also why is the free stream such low quality? It's like one extreme to another...
Also, please tell Orb to slow down with his talking, he tries to get too much information in. Play-by-play talking fast can be fantastic but when it is like analysis of the game at uber speed it's a bit :/
Sorry for the criticism's, hope they are at least somewhat constructive.
very excited for this. NASL 1 had many great games for the finals... Barely watched any of the regular season as they all broadcasted when i was in school... and i hope that the seeding for the finals change because it was terrible to see ret get mauled by Puma in RO 16... They should have seeding there or implement some form of group play. They should also do more hyping of the regular season IMO Perhaps team up with TL for them to hype up matches. Look at huge matches such as the TSL and even Jinro vs Idra(i know that this is all liquid related... Just an idea) those were so hyped up, so many people watched, Hopefully NASL can improve and continue to provide great games for us.
Looking decent. I hope the casters will be amazing, so looking forward to that.. i'm skeptical after the last finals, but i hope you prove me wrong NASL.

Regarding Tiebreaks.
We first go by record in the season (eg. 5-2), and then by overall game win vs loss. If there are still ties after that, we will resolve them by having Tie Breaker games. These will be broadcasted on a single day before the Playoffs.

Is another event seriously having TheGunrun cast? I love the guy and his crazy voice but he's no starcraft caster. People say Gretorp's casting drives them away from the NASL - wait til Thegunrun is thrown out there in the LAN =/

Whats your problem?
Orb is probably the best analytical caster in the scene and Gretorp has casted with Gunrun the entire season... manner up.
Also, I don't like Gunruns casting either but hes been helping in the scene doing tons of stuff for a long time plus hes casted the entire season, so it's only fair for him to cast at the finals.

I can understand the hate against Gretorp/Gunrun, they have been casting all season and doing a pretty...meh job. I would prefer better casters if possible.
But I wouldn't lump orb into the same caster category as those two? I think he is a much better caster and I've never seen him cast at a live event, so need to see how he works live with a real personality (not gretorp/gunrun) before I truly judge. He is absolutely great in the ESV weeklies though.
This is going to prove that a. if NASL can hold up its improving production values and survive the shitstorm known as a live event b. to continue adding hype to S3 (which could be its final season) and to put itself on the map like MLG/IPL
I"m staring at the NASL Season One Finals poster I had signed by Day 9 and Tasteless and July and MC...ah the memories. I'm super happy the S2 finals are in the same spot! I live about 10 minutes away.
The BEST part is that I had said to my girlfriend the only thing the event really needed was to provide booze and now they're doing it! They better not gouge the shit out of me with their prices though.
I loved the first finals, and I'm sure I'm also going to love this one.
The only thing that I don't understand is why it's still a single elimination bracket. Besides how much it sucks for the players, I want more games!
That's my only criticism of NASL really...Which means it's probably going to be an awesome event! =D
Also, it would be siiick if they had the same screen set-up as last year, except player vision on the side screens. Preferably not spectators on follow, because of how Blizzard screwed up following player cams, but the actual video output of the player's computer. That would be raising the bar, in my opinion.
Please get Tastosis and let them cast EVERYTHING. Sorry if it sounds like a douchebag, but NASL is sooo boring because of your casters. Do not ruin your own grand finals by using them. It was a like slap in the face when Incontrol and Gretorp casted last NASL Grand final.
Seriously this is not meant to be rude and I think my oppinion is the oppinion of many viewers around the whole globe (f.e. small activity in the NASL LR threads, low viewer count on stream and no bigger coverage from TL [besides of obligatory Liquipedia]).
Anyways, it will be a nice event. Thank you for doing this guys.

Gretorp will most likely be casting, he is imo the 'main' caster of NASL. Whether this is good or bad is debatable. As for Orb, I have to disagree, Orb is a fantastic caster. He has great game sense and his play-by-play is pretty decent as well. I really am looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the table when put together with one of the other, more play-by-play oritented, casters.
Hey just a question...have you guys tried getting James 2GD Harding? He's an excellent caster and I'm sure you've heard of him. I really am surprised he's not at many tournaments.
Does anyone know the reason for this? I mean he was single-handedly carrying the WoW Arena scene @ MLG for many seasons (JP too sometimes)... And a lack of dApollo/TotalBiscuit? Just curious if you guys did invite and they declined? Or is there a reason for not inviting them Euros need more love imo.

2GD is fucking terrible. The casters they have listed are a fantastic lineup. The only person I like that isn't on that list is dApollo.

The way Nasl avoids answering any answer related to her is getting a bit annoying. First you bring a nice girl to the scene, who gets a lot of heat, but then things turn around, she gets a fanclub, shows interest in learning the game, promises to start streaming all good.
And then she dissapears.
A while later Nasl uses her images in a promotion thread to start the hype all over and then she dissapears again. Even Day9 tries to contact her but is ignored.

Why/when did Day9 attempt to contact her ? You sparked my curiosity.
I have not watched this season because I don't like your weekly casters. This list for the finals of casters is huge, but 9 casters for so few games is a little overkill isn't it?
I'm sure that Gretorp and who ever will do the finals again this year, but why, when you are bringing in so much talent, would you do that!?
Yeah Yeah, "be fair he did the whole season" I don't care, he is part of the reason I didn't watch the whole season.
Personally, I would love to see Rotterdam/Mr. Bitter for the finals. I thought they did a great job at IEM Cologne

good to see that the round of 16 is now a best of 5, that helps. obviously a single elimination bracket with no advantage to the winners of the group is not ideal (but is easily fixed) but at least it gives people somewhat of a chance to show their skills
• Day9 - He is god. • Diggity - Never heard of him. Could be good or could be bad idk. • DjWheat - A beast of a caster, I like him really much, especially together with Day9 • Gretorp - Meh. He didn't even get better with co-casters (excluding him and orb). His cast with Sheth was horrible and honestly it was not Sheths fault. And his casting with Gunrun was even worse. He is the main caster, he will probably cast the finals and if you have to do it NASL, please give him Orb as partner, thats the best you can do, if it has to be Gretorp. • Husky - He gets much hate. I can understand it, but I like him. He has a good mix of game analysing and entertainment. • MrBitter - He has a very good understanding of the game, especially with zerg and together with Rotterdam, he's very entertaining. The only thing is that the bashing can sometimes go too far for a serious cast (I don't count Grass is Greener as serious ) • Orb - Didn't know much about him, but he really impressed me this season. He is the only one to make Gretorp good, because he talks so much more than him (which is good) • Rotterdam - He is very entertaining and has a good game skill, together with MrBitter he is very good, but don't let the bashing go too far on this one. • TheGunrun - Didn't liked him through the season and did not see anything else from him. Lets see if we can break the current record for online viewership for SC2 tournaments which was set at the NASL s1 finals of about 102k stream viewers!
Reformatted the details a little bit. Added our caster lineup, which was released yesterday. Also added the following player to the roster, as he clinched a spot this week: + Show Spoiler +
EG Huk
.
Stay tuned for the schedule, caster profiles, giveaways, and more announcements about the show (oh yes, there's more!)
If they stick to 360p on the free stream, I won't be watching this. Even if NASL gathers every caster in the world for a big naked-casting-dance-parade.

LETS GET IT ON
that was broken by mlg's and the most recent IPL getting over 100K viewers @ the semi finals before they messed it up with League of legends cut in before the final........ ,
even gsl finals at blizzcon broke it , over 26000 in live attendance and gomtv states 118,250 views for the final just from their website alone , as we know most of us checked the gsl finals threw the blizzard stream..
anyway, NASL 2 will be a great finals, i dont live in america but if i did i would go.
I am saddened by how many of my fellow Canucks *won't* read. . Use reason. Ontario, CA != a finite location in Canada. It is an entire province, one that spans over 900,000 square kilometers by land. This isn't "where's waldo", they wouldn't make you guess where in Ontario the venue would be. Look at the venue info. You will see a five digit postal code. You may infer from your experience as Canadian that this may not be a Canadian Postal Code, as there are no letters in it. So sadface.
This happened last season, I was hoping it wouldn't happen again this season, but alas....
We want to have a diverse casting group, and we believe that casters shouldn't have to cast 10-12 hours per day at an event, they get worn out that way. This way we can rotate casters and not overwork them. This == happy casters

And happy viewers as well. Not only do you guys get fresh, energetic, and excited casters for each game, but look at it this way: Even if there's a caster or two on the list you may not like (everyone has their favorites and preferences right? Just being realistic), at least you know there will be such great diversity that each caster will only be casting a couple of matches.
Personally I think it'll help make the finals really exciting and fun to watch, but who knows, we'll have to wait and see ^_^
Note I hope no one interprets this as me saying I don't like some of the casters on the list or something... was just including that since I know some of the people in the thread have already expressed this sentiment

You do realize there are fewer casters at the NASL S2 Finals than there were at MLG right?
MLG Lineup: Day9, Husky, djWHEAT, JP, Tasteless, Artosis, +4 beta stream "community casters" = 10 casters. NASL Lineup: Day9, Husky, djWHEAT, Diggity, Rotterdam, MrBitter, Gretorp, orb (gunrun is MCing I believe though I could be wrong don't quote me on that) = 8 casters.
But yes, we're a casters convention!

Anyways guys, really looking forward to casting my first live event! Should be an absolute blast
Can't wait to meet all of you at the afterparties and such ^_^
there is also about 10x less games if not more, i dont think its a stretch to say that 150+ games get played at an MLG including the open bracket of course.
so i dont really see where your going with that ><
So i think i will reiterate what everyone else has said, why do you need so many casters for 15 games. Seems odd. And really if your just counting group play at mlg (a more appropraite comparison to the NASL finals) their are 2 groups of casters only with JP subbing in here and there, and thats still for at least 2-3 times as many games (and thats just casted games their are games that arent casted as well in group play)
I didnt follow this season of NASL at all, i maybe watched half a game on the first week when it was free 1080p. I really do think the lack of Koreans hurt their viewing numbers, but beyond that its just too much starcraft to follow for one tournament and if you dont follow every week for at least 1 division your missing out on the storylines etc and you just eventually become uninterested. I payed for season one and only made it half way through, season 1 was plagued with tons of issues though season 2 hopefully ran alot smoother.
Regardless i think NASL would enjoy much more sucess if they just became a lan event tournament, i mean how much money could they really be making off of the regular season with just 2 to maybe 5 (thats usually a stretch except for maybe on weekends) thousand viewers watching regularily. Most people will just hold off and watch the finals (because they are live and they are much more exciting and its just a weekend of commitment not 5 days a week for months on end) and will get explained the story lines of the regular season by casters (like they did last season) suddenly blam im caught up and i didnt have to spend 3-5 hours 5 days a week watching an online tournament.
Even TL stopped covering NASL each week , probably because no one on the writing staff watches regularily anymore or because of the generally low viewership after this first week or two. Dont get me wrong I would love NASL to be hugely succesful, but from a viewers point of view im just not that interested in pre recorded online tournaments so much (TSL was so great and exciting , but it was also in small doses on the weekends and the regular casters were far better in my opinion) If it was actually feasible for north america to have a live league similair to the GSL , now that is something I would watch. I just dont think pre recorded online tournaments are going to get esports or starcraft 2 into a mainstream audience, it can barely hold the attention of the hardcore audience as is.

Some people just love to bitch about nothing.
Lets do a little match here. There are 16 games right?(theres a 3rd place game also). The semis, finals, and 3rd place games are BO7s, the rest are BO5s. If every set went to the last game thats a total of 88 games(unless im dumb). There are 8 casters(i.e. 4 casting duos) so that means each duo could cast up to 22 games if its spread evenly.
Is casting up to 22 games per caster really a totally unreasonable number for you? You should be happy that people will get to enjoy some of their favorite casters, even if they don't get to see them cast EVERY game. You should also be happy that the NASL is providing work for all these people so they can continue to provide content for you.

I gave it a try when I tuned into NASL and SC2 wasn't on, but it was so bad I had to tune out again.
i cant for the life of me think of why you need 9 casters let alone invite bitter and rotti over from europe to what??? cast 1 possibly 2 series? also you KNOW they wont be casting the finals even though they would be the best duo there hands down. this seems extremely excessive and just plain stupid tbh and mbcarmac's comments lately are holding up pretty well atm.
Gretorp and Orb should be there, as your two main casters like it's been all season. But you only have one stream and it's single elimination.
Ro16: 8 Best of 5's. Ro8: 4 best of 7's Ro4: 2 best of 7's Ro2: 1 best of 7.
So you have 9 casters for a total of 15 series. 2 casting pairs would be more than enough. Gretorp and Orb for your brand, then someone like Day[J]Wheat or Bitterdam. The rest of them are just not needed.

• Day9 - He is god. • Diggity - Never heard of him. Could be good or could be bad idk. • DjWheat - A beast of a caster, I like him really much, especially together with Day9 • Gretorp - Meh. Look, I'm not the kind of person who hates caster for no reason and I can endure many things. But Gretorp just annoyed me through the season. Meh.
I pretty much agree with all your points there. I think a lot of people who haven't watched ESL before will be really surprised and happy with Bitterdam.
Diggity was the first starcraft caster I ever heard and he's really good. search him on youtube and he's got some great and indepth game commentary... or you can watch this for the lulz:

Have any of you considered the possibility that these casters might have asked NASL if they can cast? Or, they were attending anyway and NASL wanted to make use of them? Or that they're not there to cast but also do other things (I think Orb said GunRun is MCing)?
Seriously, the NASL hate is getting really depressing. At least last season there were somewhat legitimate reasons. But now, they've 1) fixed the prize pool, 2) fixed the format, 3) added a caster lineup to address caster complaints this season...
And rather than saying, "Good job NASL" people go, "OMFG WTF TOO MANY CASTERS"

SMH.
While people complaining about a lot of casters is ridiculous, given that there's no actual downside for us, I do think it's fair to think it's pretty weird, to have 9 casters in a 16-man single elimination tournament. Questioning is fine, complaining isn't.

Agreed, in my post 2 pages back i wasnt complaining about the casters per se, i was more commenting on orbs comparison to how many casters MLG had compared to NASL. I just dont think any comparisons should be drawn from an event with easily 10x as many games, its not like MLG was really subbing in and out casters for matches, they had all the casters casting concurrently so that they could cast the vast amount of games. Which is far different from having 9 casters covering 1 stream. Gunrun MC'ing i think would be a mistake he has a very soft raspy voice, someone like anna prosser or incontrol even ( i dunno anyone really lol) would be much better IMO.
Also I think its important for the viewers to develop a rapport with casters over the course of the event and its nice when casters can bring up earlier comments they made on a players (who has advanced) and build on that , it can help develop a storyline for a player advancing through the tournament in a much smoother way. It just doesnt really make too much sense to me to have so many casters for so few games.
Not to mention alot of people have gripes with some of the less well known casters , i know you can never please everybody but having the NASL's main casters Gretorp and Orb (im not really a fan but having them cast is a given) along with 1 other group of popular casters such as bitterdam or Day 9 Dj wheat, would appease a very wide audience. Casters are very very important in esports right now (more so then the players really) and audience members can easily be turned off by casters tthey dont like to the point that they wont watch the event. For instance for me, if say Day 9 and DJ wheat casted the NASL on a regular basis (probably not possible but regardless) i would be much more inclined to tune in. Last season (when i bought a pass for NASL) i couldnt stand gretorp's casting and i still cant so much so that I wont tune in to NASL especially when there is so many other events going on weekly with casters that i prefer. Ive heard alot of complaints about gretorp in particular and i wouldnt be surprised if replacing him with a well known casters significantly increased regular season viewership for NASL.
I've already explained the reason for multiple casters.
Other tournaments have casters who cast 10-12 hours per day. Believe it or not, casters do not generally enjoy this. Therefore -- we have enough casters to keep the amount of casting per day at a manageable level. This way, our casters are not overworked, they are happy, and their casts will reflect this.
As much as I'm sure everyone would like to see Day9 cast 10 hours each day over the finals weekend... it's about what's best for THEIR working conditions. We want happy casters and happy players and happy spectators. We hope that the system we have will be able to maximize the balance between these three factors!

I think that is a cop out answer why go to the extreme and talk about a having 1 caster do the whole thing. If you have 1 stream and its only 10 hours a day why would you have more than 2 teams of casters? at the most 3 and definitely not 9 people. From a spectators perspective, it lowers the connection I get with the casters throughout the tournament and for me I like consistency.

You're saying this while not having any idea how we're planning on using the 9 casters, what activities we're going to do, or anything of the sort.
At first I was little depressed about the lack of Koreans playing but I think some of the foreigners playing here are on that level anyway.
I'm honestly extremely pumped to see demuslim/morrow/sen back on the big stage again, seems like it's been so long. I don't even need to mention we got puma, hero, idra and huk.
single elimination is my favourite format to watch, i realy dont like this double elimination stuff, where the upper winner wins like 90% just to have 32507 more games, quality > quantity. great that u guys learned from ur first event and went for bo5 instead of bo3 though.
would be great to have multiple streams/casters for the finals like mlg - while i understand that orb and gretorb earned the right to cast the finals over the regular season, i have to say for my self that i would prefer other casters which would be at the event a little bit more.

Man, every time I step into an NASL thread I just have to sigh at how much this league/tourney seems to bring out so many of the petulant children here. The amount of money that NASL pours into the industry alone is enough to justify its existence, the pay and exposure that some of the less known players and casters get is creating (hopefully) sustainable full-time e-sports positions in the USA, something that I think we're all looking for.
I'm not sure what this league did to deserve this level of entitled bitchyness being thrown at them, but maybe if they just keep putting out as solid of a product as they did the first time, and so far this time, it will eventually go away.
Hey guys, together with our sponsor, EIZO, we are happy to announce another promotion for the Grand Finals.
EIZO is providing several FORIS FS2332 monitors, which will be signed by players and casters attending. These monitors are available for sale, and to top it off, they're 30% off regular price for attendees.

As long as ZvP are casted by Rotterdam and Bitter ill be happy ^^
So I assume Day9 will alternate with Husky/DJWheat? Bitterdam and Gretorb are pretty well assembled duos. Day9 works well with both of Husky and DJWheat.
So glad to see NASL up the ante this season and improve their offline event. Looking forward to seeing all these great players duke it out in a sudden death style tournament.

Yeah, totally agree. I watched a lot of NASL 1 group matches, but this season its not been as appealing. I've watched some, but usually half the time I see it on TL and go to look, its HoN (?) even though the tag says 'SC2' so I've kinda given it a miss now.

In case anyone is having trouble getting the special room rate at the double tree, you have to enter the NSL code in the group code field, not the Promotion/Offer code field.
@OP - You may want to update your post to read "DoubleTree will be offering special discounts for NASL Finals attendees who use the group code NSL."
Can't wait to check the finals out...gonna be on my birthday too!
So almost half of the people who already qualified are from EG! :o But there are still the playoffs and liquid has some strong representatives in there. mouz also has a representative still in there.

Thanks for the suggestion. Updated to say that.
The list of 10 players advancing to the finals from the Regular Season is now complete and posted.
Semi Open dates are posted (starts Wed, Nov 16th, finals for the Grand Finals spot will be Mon, 21st).
Playoff Broadcast dates are posted. Brackets will be released soon.
Just happen to be in LA celebrating my wife's 30th birthday while on vacation and realized the timing matched up with this. Just finished booking my tickets. Unfortunately I can only go on Sunday evening, but that's better than nothing right. Never thought I'd get to see a big live event like this.
Hopefully I'll still have some time to meet some cool people!
Premium Pass ticket holders for the NASL Season 2 Grand Finals are advised to come prepared to show their colors and choose Protoss, Terran, or Zerg! In addition to having the best seats in the house, Premium Pass ticket holders will receive a commemorative poster and pair of Thunderstix of their choice.
The commemorative movie posters, which are 27" by 39", are available in the following four designs:
Isn't HerO now heavily favored to win this? He's bested Puma several times now and he may have a problem facing HuK, but other than he is favored against everyone else.
the friday start time to be exact. Its at Noon for sc2 games. Most of us get off of work at 3-5pm. Missing almost all of day 1. With this being a single elimination style tourney, you face not being able to see any games from your favorite player.
Yeah, he and Gretorp are easily the best casting-duo out there. With Gretorps insight into the game and solid way to express his thoughts to the viewers, there is just no other way around it. Sorry

Gretorp's the worst caster in the NASL, and I really hope he doesn't cast the Final match.
