At the very least this thread has put a bit of light on the subject and allowed tournaments to get some accountability for their actions.

It does seem like most of the big tournaments are obviously legit, but a governing body would really help timely payments. I mean right now you need to contact every single player to get a comprehensive picture of the situation

60 days should be the maximum of paying debts. 90 days should be frowned upon and everything above that is barbaric. You are not a serious company if you can't pay within 60 days. Especially when there is no stock involved.
I had a good night of sleep.

This is how the world works. It is shitty but it is true. It really shouldn't be the player having to stay in contact with the tournaments, though, the team should have a rep that takes care of these things for them. In fact, in the bigger world of things, the team would pay the player the winnings straight away while they wait out the recuperation from the tournament. I understand that this is not financially feasible for most teams in the current environment, but at the very least, they should have a rep that hounds tournament organizers for the money rather than the player having to waste time doing so and getting stressed out about the process.

Hey Cloud.

i am representative and ceo of gaming insight. we are running the XMG GI Cup you mentioned in you very first post.

First of all, i´d like to point out that all of you guys definetly deserve your money, especially big companys should be able to pay this almost instantly, because prize money is almost always just a small piece of total event costs that come along with events of such a size.

You won 50 Euros at our XMG Gaming Insight SC2 Qualifier last saturday night, which is not even 48 hours ago right now. I got your paypal email adress in the logs and you paypal money has already been sent like all other winners of the qualifiers before got their money and all future winner will. Some days delay are due to the money transfers in the background and after all, it needs to be at least a working day for the guys in the office :D
We got all money and support from our sponsors XMG, Gameladen, Need for Seat and Steelseries in advance and will be able to give away that 1500Euros and the Notebook instantly in the final invitational tournament as well. So I would really appreciate if tournament holders gather their prize pool before holding the event itself, even thoug i know it is not always that easy to get some money in advance.

So i am totally with you guys, you deserve all that prize money! But after all please point out that XMG Gaming Insight does not owe you money, we pay our bills

Cheers

And yet another defending their actions. Fantastic!

Where do i defend ourselves ? Cloud is totally right with what he said. The final of that qualifier he won is not even 48 hours ago and even thou i understand that he questions a payment without harassing us from his experience, i just wanted to point out that we pay prizemoney.

You're making a statement about the situation: Defending yourself. He's making a claim that he hasn't been paid. He never said he didn't expect it, but he just said he hasn't been paid yet. So, you made a public statement reassuring him that he will be paid. That is where you defend yourself. You're defending yourself from the negative publicity that is connected with "I HAVENT BEEN PAID YET"

That's not actually true, cloud said he hadn't been contacted about payment info yet which made him concerned, not that they were late or hadn't paid (it was only a few days ago keep in mind).

From the admin's statements they had his paypal details already, so it's a little bit of a non-issue, he just wanted to make sure people weren't jumping to conclusions.

I wonder how many players actually have the leverage to do this (assuming it worked for Idra)

Most players don't have enough weight to make such threats..

I wouldnt call that defending themselves. He even agrees with cloud. If anything he's making a statement to agree that there is a problem if organizations take this long or dont pay and explains how they do it.

Fine, don't call it defending themselves. It's still Corporate Responsibility.

We're talking with IdrA now to get this sorted out. We "closed the books" on IPL 1 a couple of months ago, so we're tracking the checks/payments now to see what's up and if we need to reissue. We just made some calls and verified that the last of IPL 2 checks/payments should be made this Friday. IPL 3, some players are still submitting their information.

Guys, stop spazzing out over a 3 month pay period. That really isn't that much. The real problem is tournaments that require harassment to pay, or take longer than said to pay out. If they say they'll pay out in 3 months, and pay out in 2 and 1/2 months, leave them alone. >.>

Sounds like most of the NA tournaments are pretty good (IPL, MLG, NASL) but sometimes random mistakes happen and people might not get paid, and it'll be worked out.

teamliquid.net could easily start up an initiative where pro players get to share their feedback on specific tournaments.

If players don't receive the money within 3 months, your tournaments are no longer displayed on the sidebar of TL. Good luck getting viewers for your ads then.

how can ESL such a big organisation act like this with all the players and like no one really talk louder about it

seems like all their events even the big EPS etc not pay for long time have to be a bigger thing

its one of the biggest or THE biggest europe esport organisation and rotterdam etc working for them so if they act like this i feel like 1 or 2 boykot of their tournaments would perhaps help (the big tournaments and then 99% of the pros boykott)

Its been well known ESL don't pay prize money and if they do its 1-2 years late, same with ESWC but they were taken over by new people so not sure what's up with that...

Only people that i've worked with that can pay out prize money pretty much asap is ESEA and SGL but SGL dropped off the prize money scene a few years ago

What!? This is outragious!

I feel like the best action for viewers and fans at the moment. Is to try to get as much information as possible, about the events that have not payed up in a decent time. With genuine sources and facts.

And boycott that tournament/event.
I realize that this might also hurt the players because of the viewers will lower, the sponsors dont get as much attention as they want, and tournament gets a bad reputation.

But this really cannot go on.

not only for the sake of the players, but who would watch a tournament where you know that the admins are total douchebags? and they might not pay your favorite player if he actually wins the tournament. Does the player not deserve any recognition other than a "high five you wun!"

After reading this thread, it has definately changed my hole perspective of ESL and others not paying up the money they OWE

Yes it might get delayed. But the most important thing for a player is
1) Get his accomplishments out there
2) Gain fans ( So sponsors would want a percentage of the fanbase (viewers)
3) Get the prize money they deserve

I'm sure there are more points to this, but as i've just read this thread. And did not know this was going on. I'm sure players can enlighten us tho.

I'm sorry if this sounds abit biased. But after hearing all this. And the companies not really giving a crap about telling the players whats going on with their honest paydays. I'm very upset.

What do you say Esport fans? Would you boicott the tournaments responsible, given the fact that all this is true?
This is where we begin. Show your true self, Battosai.

The people that run the tournaments should make sure they have all the prizemoney ready to pay out before they announce the tournament. Anything longer than 1 month is unacceptable and shows that the tournament organizer doesn't have the money secure before promising a huge prize pool.

What I'm wondering is why all the tourney organizers don't have their paperwork checked out before the tourney starts. Have the money ready to go and cleared by the financial dept. So that you just fill in the name of the player and can send the money immediately.

But this should be changed if it can. Just because it is the norm does not make it acceptable.
