We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled.

First, SC is not like those things, this already has been discussed here, just go back a few pages.

Second, i really don't understand why a lot of people here can't click on a thread on the left of the main page with a spoiler tag so other people can still visit Team Liquid and enjoy the game as well as you did.

It's such a small thing we are asking for you guys, while you are basically asking for us to not come here while we still didn't watch the game, wich is not as easy some of you might think. (because of reasons that also already have beem discussed here)

And it's such a small thing that we're asking you to understand that if you're going to come onto a community news website and discussion board, to expect that people are probably going to blab the results at one point or another, putting you in the same exact position. Even if TL.net placed a rule against spoilers, what's to stop a person from posting a thread saying PLAYER X WINS TOURNAMENT Y! Or bringing up the results in the middle of a different thread? Unless you can guarantee that won't happen (and you can't), it makes absolutely no sense for you to come to a site like this in the first place if you are really that invested in not having results disclosed.

Actually I think it makes perfect sense, since Team Liquid in my opinion is by far the best place that can avoid something like this from happening because of its moderation.

And by the way, there is a rule against spoilers: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmessage.php?topic_id=17883 #2

Even with moderation, mods can't catch every single thread and/or post in real time as they appear. If you're on this site, you're constantly running an unnecessary risk. If you're going to bitch about it, don't come until you've seen the games. It's pretty simple...

How come it can't be as simple as someone putting spoiler tags in a thread/title?

How come we can't have world peace when it's as simple as people not hitting each other? People are liable not to follow rules, even if they're really simple ones. As long as you're around them, you're just going to have to accept that. In this scenario if you're GENUINELY going to get upset if someone spoils the results, why don't you take the initiative to keep yourself happy by not coming to a place where people are liable to do that? Why are you taking a risk and then complaining that you got burned? I get that there are lots of reasons why one might want to come here other than SC2 results, but if you seriously care that much (and I doubt there are many people that do), then you probably shouldn't be here until you watch the games in question.

Because we are not talking about 7 billion people with thousands of different cultures with religious differences and countries backgrounds of wars of indepence and betrayals that goes back +100 years in time. How can you even compare this to world peace and say that it's easy.

Asking people on the internet to use their brains or be considerate of others when they don't have to be is easily comparable to world peace in its absurdity... Is this seriously a question?

Because I come here for more than just SC2. What if I want to update my stream status? When I want to read about major current events, I don't need to go to CNN, I can just read general chat. When I want to talk about Battlefield 3 I don't go to gamefaqs, I come here. What if I need to check my PMs? I don't get mad or blame anyone for doing anything wrong if they spoil something, I don't think it is against the rules. I just don't get why I keep being told I should avoid TL like the plague because I decided to go to bed early when all it takes is literally a click on a button slightly above where I was typing this.

no they are not "easily comparable" since there aren't 7 billion people on the internet and we are not discussing World peace. Do you understand?
EDIT: do you know what the straw man argument is? YOU ARE DOING IT. I mean don't you understand, we are talking about if we should or should not put spoilers for people that don't want to see the results and you start talking about world peace and shit, why don't you link this to Hitler and the holocaust while you are at it.

One of the points of this thread was for people to discuss and maybe hopefully change rules that are here. Arguing that we should have no spoilers because it is a rule that has been implemented a long time ago have no actual argument. Either there is a good reason for the rule of no spoilers or there isn't.

Anyway, I am just displeased that because of the vocal minority the site doesn't have epic titles and cool quick recaps of the games (especially the games from last night). Having a GSL go to the 7th set in such a close match warrants headline news and content plastered across the front page, instead of the finalist interviews (instead of it just saying GSL MMA vs DRG interviews). The community doesn't want to be spoiled but what they are actually doing is covering up headline news for 24-48 hours. Just think if DRG and MMA were trending on twitter and some type of organization wanted to do a story or find out juicy details on it, they come to TL, see nothing about the finals except the interviews and are clueless to how big of a deal the finals were.

I dislike the people here who think just because TL has always done things a certain way that we should not change and have a more mainstream outlook. Other sports have articles or atleast exciting headlines with some type of wrap up to the games played that day...I think TL could do the same.

I dunno, but I feel like reddit fulfills this purpose well. Right after MMA vs DRG it was full of OMG OMG MMA IS A GOD, etc. Due to the nature of the site, I think, personally, that its fine. But since TL is NOT just for SC its not the same. I come here to find out world news, as well as for SC. If you want huge headlines just go to reddit. Plus, not spoiling takes like two seconds, whereas you ruin an entire match, or THE GREATEST MATCH EVER, if you do spoil.

It's because some people here don't thinks there needs to be any change. In my personal opinion, I think to allow spoilers would harm the one aspect that made me be a part of Team Liquid, wich is that before anything else it's a community and we all should take in consideration its members before asking for anything.

EDIT: I would be interested if this was discussed on State of the Game

I mean, couldn't you just go reddit if you really really wanted to find out things really really fast? TL will never be able to beat reddit, no matter how fast they update.

People can probably say the same thing on NFL.com or any other place. They just come there for the general discussion and off topic boards. If you need to check your PMs have it under your favorite tab, if you like the sports and game section do the same. I think this site is mostly about supporting SCII/BW news and the team behind it, everything else should go by the wayside.

I'm not trying to say that the other communities need to shove it, but it just seems like if you are coming to this site for everything else except for getting spoiled, then you don't care enough or don't want to fill yourself in quickly enough to be part of the "spoiled" SC2 news discussion.

I just love that at the top of the page it says:
teamliquid:
Starcraft Progaming News | Community | Team

Yet people still want the site to revolve around when they watched the finals of a major tournament or that since reddit makes news travel faster that I should just go there. The difference is that TL provides good content, good pictures, we have LR people who are devoted to making good timeline of everything happening and instead of having all this good content wrapped up into a package on the front page with a cool flashy title. Instead, we have to wait 2 days so that 7%-14% of people can make enough time in their day to watch a tournament (a tournament that they care enough about to complain about spoilers but can't watch instead of complaining).

Liquid Tyler already summed up my point pretty well in the OP.

Yes they are easily comparable because what makes both of them absolutely absurd is the fact that they have the exact same underlying cause that makes them impossible dreams. You're arguing levels of impossibility when I'm just pointing out that all that matters is that they're both impossible. I do think you're taking this far too seriously.

That they put it in the SC2 news section is fine, the problem is when it appears on the general forums

Apparently you do not know what the straw man argument is.

I dont agree that it should be posted a "minute" after the event ends. But 24 hours from the local time zone of the event would be nice.

If you want results in one minute go on reddit/r/starcraft

I wasn't intending to pose an argument, but rather a bit of commentary. But feel free to continue crying about something that's not actually going to happen and always being upset because people don't act the way you feel they should. That's your choice... I'm just trying to save you from your own irrational concerns. :/

Anyways, I'm done on this thread because it's just reiterating the same nonsense back and forth with nobody actually listening to anyone else so feel free to PM me if you want to continue to kill your boredom.

You are comparing war and world peace with spoilers on TL.Net and you claim that I AM taking this too seriously?
I can't believe you just said that the cause of lack of world peace, in that people are killing each other, are because of the exact same causes that people want free spoilers...

Do people not enjoy the game if they know who wins? I'm guessing the only people who do that would be the ones who actually don't play the game themselves, or don't appreciate seeing good tactical starcraft

LOL! Yeah, you're definitely taking it too seriously. And yes, they are fueled by the same cause: HUMAN NATURE
If you want to continue to believe that you're going to be able to convince people as a whole to behave in a certain way because that's the logical way to do it, you're only going to be constantly disappointed. Call me jaded, but a lost cause is a lost cause. Doesn't matter what it is. The sooner you can accept the fact that others won't change and take it upon yourself to make decisions that will keep you happier (ie. staying away from TL if you don't want results spoiled), then you'll be a happier person for it.

Consideration is a two way street though. If I haven't watched a game I don't want to limit other peoples discussions or have them jump through hoops when discussing game just because I haven't watched it yet.

I still enjoy it for sure, but I could imagine if I knew that so and so won a certain series, I wouldn't be on the edge of my seat once game 7 hit.

You don't have to limit other peoples discussions though. All it takes is a [ spoiler] [/ spoiler]. And I don't consider that simple task jumping through hoops.

Human Nature is not the cause it only gives the rise to the possibility there is a very clear distinction between the two. The causes are many, like conflicts, hatred and misunderstanding between culture, if you took away human nature but kept conflicts, hatred and cultural misunderstanding war would still exist but if you took away earlier mentioned but kept human nature there would, at least, be less wars. And it is very plausible to make people behave in a certain way, like social condition, authority, education, the benefit of society and so forth.

All they have to do is watch the games (or avoid TL)? We can go around and around with that argument. Even with knowing who won last night you can't watch the last battle without biting your nails or pulling for who you want to win. If you want the real entertainment you have to watch finals live and live at the exact moment it is happening. If you want to try and achieve that same feeling you have to avoid places to get spoiled and make sure you catch up before coming to TL.
