We are currently talking about this issue in the mod forum. We take this issue very seriously, and want to find the best way to serve those who want faster results, and those that don't wish to be spoiled.

The rest of the world avoids media when they want to watch tape delay broadcast. Should be the same here. Celebrate success not whiners :D

Definately agree, I want to see more hype on TL, less pandering to the minority of spoiler whiners.

well thing is - there are VODs for esports - not for traditional sports - thats why spoiler free website are better - just my opinion

The problem is, TL is the goto place for any information on anything SC2 related. You can google the schedule for your favorite football team without spoilers, but there is no way to find tournament information without knowing the exact link or going to TL.

Thanks! Now I can bookmark that for the news and stick with TL for their community!

Like I said before, you can't have it both ways when the sport is so young.
Hype will get boring as I've said before. Everybody loves a winner first, then gets interested in the play. I personally only got excited about soccer after people and mass media about Manchester United winning EPL again THEN my interest was piqued enough to watch their replays THEN finally emotionally involved that I got upset when a result got spoiled (fan).

THIS! 100 times this! I really hate how all sc2 sites tiptoe around results, we should celebrate victories, not hide them

No one's saying you can't celebrate victories. There's fanclubs, LR threads and if you really feel it deserves it's own then properly mark the discussion thread with "spoiler" in the title or OP. TL staff holds high standards for it's write-ups, and they're not done instantly. If that isn't good enough for you then punishing those who don't like spoilers isn't going to change a damn thing. You're still not getting quick news posts, and you still have the same old locations to find all results quickly with a few clicks of your mouse. Really what is the difference between "[Spoiler] Amazing -insert tournament- Finals Discussion! " and "OMFG STEPHANO WON HES A GOD!!!!11!"?

I'll give you a hint, one is proper, courteous to other members, and allowed on TL all together, while the other is most likely to be closed.

I often watch the west coast broadcast of sporting events the next afternoon, while avoiding the media sits responsible for coverage of these sporting events before i watch the vod.

Although this argument may be very valid, your example of not watching traditional sports through tape is false.

There is a reason that the situation for e-sports is different from sports.

Physical sports aren't nearly as depth-dependent as strategy games. Most joe-schmoe sports viewers don't know anything about the depth of the game and don't really care. They just watch it to watch it. They know what a good play looks like, sorta, but that's it.

SC2, on the other hand, is extremely reliant on the games themselves. Results aren't the punchline. Take the recent Stephano performance for example. His actual gameplay was much more important than the results themselves. Because of this, a lot of people make sure they watch the games themselves. If someone misses a basketball game or a football game or something, it is a lot less important to watch the games. And people do stuff like watch highlights, lol.

TLDR: The sports community is more fickle, cares less about the depth of the game, and takes it less seriously than the SC2 community.

There are already spoilered threads to discuss the games in, so I dunno what you're even talking about.

The bolded is one of the most egregious things I've ever read. There are so many die hard sports fans that make any in the esport community look like cheerleaders. There have been riots, fights, deaths. People spend thousands of dollars on season tickets, lose their voices every week, and so much more.

If you don't want to be spoiled, stay off community sites.

People who record important sports matches and want to watch them later avoid places where they are likely to be spoiled.

If you don't want to be spoiled, it is your responsibility to avoid places where they are likely to be, and not the responsibility of others to protect you.

I just wanted to chime in with what the OP stated. The 'spoilers' gets obnoxious. Even more so when spoiler tags never get removed from old threads.

For example I wanted to read up some of the 'recaps' of an GSL July match and after opening about 14 spoiler tags i finally got the refresher on the match I was looking to.

This is not baseball. This is not Hockey. This is not Football. There is no reason to ever compare this community to mainstream sports. ever. It doesn't make sense. Judge the community on its own merit not by how close it is to another sport. With that out of the way, I still watch a good game if it's been spoiled, but it has to be a really really good game. Part of the fun is not knowing how someone will do and seeing how the game plays out.

I don't feel like the onus should be on the majority though. If any of these polls show anything, most people would prefer to jump headfirst into a live environment, not a spoilered one. If you are of the type that just can't handle spoilers, then you should be able to find a way to avoid them. If that means avoiding the frontpage and minimizing the sidebars where it's likely to come up until you can watch them, so be it. Unfortunately, this isn't possible or convenient as of now (featured news isn't minimizable and it would suck to have to miss all the SC2 or BW sections for fear of spoiled titles), but that doesn't mean that can't be easily remedied.

I think, a good solution would be to keep the articles and everything TL does right now roughly the same, but then also add a new class of articles. It would just basically be a checkbox for whoever is writing it, to mark the article as 'live' or 'current'. Then, users could set up in their profile when they would like these types of articles to appear on their front page (instantly, 12hours, 24hours, 2days, 1week, or even never). This could even work for threads.. rather then having to put spoiler tags in every live thread title, they could just mark that checkbox and then put whatever title they want. The only threads that wouldn't do this would be live report threads, so the spoiler-fearing people can still access VoDs, live reports, or results after the fact easily.

I don't know how easily something like this would be to implement, and it would probably require more writers capable of churning out short impromptu articles about victories and whatnot, but I'm sure there is plenty of volunteer interest in something like that.

lol i remember 1 person spoiling a gstl result and the first 2-3 pages of comments had atleast 5 people noting theyd buy it just to see the game, i dont think spoilers are a bad thing for esports at all but if anything spoiler might be hindering it slightly~ imo of course!

I always check results before watching VODs. Yes, I would like the results posted on Team Liquid

I totally agree with the OP.

I am unable to watch the GSL in the morning being on the East Coast of the U.S.A. I have to leave for work right when the games start. Sometimes I'll check TL on my lunch break to see what happened. I have to click the link.... find it first if there is another tourny going on... load the page, scroll down, click first spoiler... second... etc etc etc. And I'm not as excited.

On the flip side, my brother told me that Idra had just demolished through Rain 3-0 and elfi 3-1 and won Guangzhou, I could not wait to get home to watch the VOD's.

To avoid huge flame, I will spoiler tag this next part: + Show Spoiler +
In the last OSL for Brood War, when Jangbi came back 0-1 to beat Flash 2-1, I missed the games because of work. A friend of mine sent me a text message that Jangbi pulled it off and I was just excited the whole day. I couldn't wait to see how he did it.

IMO, if you QQ about spoilers you really have no ground to stand on from where I view. In the world we live in, everything gets spoiled. Every sport on ESPN is shown on the the "scroll screen" on the bottom. Sometimes I'll see a score like Dallas/Detroit in Football last week. Dallas was up big and I was just bored. It would be like a series in SC2 or BW being 2-0 or 3-0 in a BOx... I would not watch. But 10 minutes later, the Lions scored, 5 minutes later they scored again, and then I HAD TO WATCH LIVE. Imagine if MLG did a game. Player X vs Player Y. X won earlier 2-0 and they rematch.

Game 3 - Player X wins. up 3-0. There is no way I watch game 4. But if something said on the main page: Player Y wins game 4 to make series 3-1 and, then Player Y wins game 5 to make it 3-2, I would defintely watch game 6 and potentially game 7 right away. Or if a story said, Player X continues to dominate, takes extended series 4-0. I would be inclined to read the live reports.

TL:DR: OP has a great point. I support this to be implemented right away for upcoming MLG event as a test to see how it goes.

when i wanted a spoiler free experience on osl finals i asked a friend to send me the links to the vods individually 1 at a time. they're ways to stay emerged into the live content feeling. espn.com isn't that place. post the results real time. cause i have no idea right now whos doing well/bad
