Dear TL-community, I present to you: "Auto Scene Change" for XSplit with support for Starcraft 2 and League of Legends.
Introduction:
If you stream Starcraft 2 and are using XSplit, this app may be for you. I’ve made a free app that can auto-switch (between two scenes in XSplit) when you go ingame and when return to the menus.
If you have set up a scene for in between games, you might sometimes forget to switch it to the game scene, when the game starts. I know this happens for a lot of streamers out there. This app will do the switching for you.
The app works by continuously monitoring the state of Starcraft 2. Basically SC2 has two states: In menus or in game. The latter includes any type of game, whether it is custom or ladder or replays. When the app detects a change of state, it sends a user defined key combination that is picked up by XSplit. You just need to set the same hotkeys for the scenes in XSplit settings.
Who should use it:
Any casual or professional streamer that uses with XSplit and changes scenes in between games.
Why should you use it:
You won’t have to think about switching scenes manually. You won't forget and your viewers will be more happy! ;-). You can still overrule the app if you want to.

Download the app (it's free) - to upgrade just overwrite the old files:
Download v. 2.0.8 for Windows 32/64 bit
(In Google Docs, hit "Download Original" or CTRL+S to download all files as a zip file). After downloading, make sure you have all files (1 exe, 5 dll's and a zip file with 68 png's).

Setup instructions:

"Dual Computer Mode" If you are running Starcraft 2 and XSplit on different computers, use the 'Dual Computer Mode'. + Show Spoiler +Instructions for "Dual Computer Mode" There's no traditional installation as such, just unzip anywhere. There are seven files, one of them is the executable (the other six are support files for the app). The app is ready to run (the only pre-requirement is the "Microsoft .Net Framework 3.5" but that's installed by default in Windows 7). Run the app by running "AutoSceneChange.exe". Instructions (highlighted in orange): Pic #1. ![[image loading]](http://i.imgur.com/mr6R1.png) Details: A) Selects the 'Dual Computer Mode'. B) The app will need to run on both computers. Use these buttons to select the function of each computer. C) Enter the IP address of the remote computer here. I strongly recommend using the IPv4 addresses (ie. 192.168.1.10). You can get the IP address of the local computer, if you briefly look on the "Single Computer Mode" tab. D) The key combo to switch scenes. Personally I use and tested with CTRL+F7 and CTRL+F8. Note that I currently don't support the use of the ALT-key in key combos. Set up the same key combo's in XSplit (see picture #3) E) Finally click "Start". It is recommend to start the app on the XSplit computer first, then wait 1-2 seconds and start the app on the SC2 computer. Note: The first time you start it, Windows' firewall will appear and ask for permission for the apps to talk to each other through the network. If something goes wrong, you can hit F1, which will open the debug-window. Inside it, there will be info, that will be valuable to me for trouble-shooting. Copy/Paste it and pm it to me.
Is it malware/virus? What am I downloading to my computer?
I'm glad you are aware of the risks of downloading random stuff off the net, but I have no intention to hurt your computer - I'm just contributing to the community by making streaming a tiny bit easier. The app is written in "Visual Basic .Net" and does not violate any ToS for SC2/LoL.

Troubleshooting:
If you get any unexpected error when starting the app, make sure you've downloaded all the files (hit CTRL+S in Google Docs)
You might also need to install Microsoft Framework 3.5 (link)
In case you cannot record a key combo, please check if you're using a non-english based keyboard layout (ie. Korean) and try again with the English layout (use 'alt+left shift' to toggle). Or simply use the API option instead of hotkeys.

after testing this program is kinda nifty when im going back and forth between Sc2//Skype//Facebook..dont have to worry about anything anymoar >.> ...Very good work :D

Indeed he did. But mine has some functionality that his doesn't, ie. the "Dual Computer Mode" that djWheat uses (running SC2 and XSplit on separate computers). We also uses different techniques to switch scenes.

This sounds interesting.
For some reason I bought the Xsplit membership/license even though I don't stream , but maybe I will in the future. I already fooled around with it a couple times though, and this sounds really handy.

I'm just not aware what exactly the GNU terms and their implications for me are. As stated below, there's very little going on here, so is it worth bothering to license?

I actually prefer to change scenes myself, but I think it's a great app for players streaming their games. I've seen a lot of them forgetting to switch to fullscreen when the game starts.

Yeah, sorry for not making that more clear, it's not very intuitive, but actually neither . Auto-start just means that you don't have to click the "Start" button in the app.
I would suggest you make a small script that starts XSplit + my app. Should be easy to make in a .bat file or similar.

why is it when i run the .exe, it tells me 'auto scene changer for xsplit has stopped working, windows is checking for a solution to the problem'?

Hey! Cool app, and great idea on using the built in Razer support for it. It'd be kind of cool for the extra events like mothership to have an option to change scene also (have a little mothership icon appear) but that'd be asking a lot.
Gave me an idea to write the APM from the Razer stuff to a text file, to have the "title" text type in xsplit be able to show APM in a fairly decent amount of time.
Mind if I link to this on my xsplit free resources post? (on the xsplit forum) Right now, only stuff from my stream is in it.

Nice idea with the "Mothership scene" - I could make that for the next update.
The APM is probably best handled via a program like SC2Gears or similar though - I'm not polling the registry often enough to make a useful apm readout.

Don't know if you've seen it, but since your program is free and all, you can use this.

It's a .net wrapper for an api call to watch the registry. It gives instant updates of registry changes. Looks pretty easy to use and implement as well.

I seem to have an issue, when I am using the autoscene changer and setting up the hotkeys the same as in xsplit to switch screens, it won't seem to hold the key sequences and keeps saying like " ctrl + key processing " instead of ctrl+F7 or ctrl+F8, any idea?

O-o are you using a laptop or a non-standard key {play, pause, etc}?
If you are using a laptop, try holding the FN key also.

I got it working, only key that works is F10 ,so I just use CTRL + F10 for scene 1 and F10 for scene 2 , Thanks for your help! This program is amazing! Now my stream will look even more pimp than before!

I just wanted to mention that there are different methods (other than the registry) of detecting actions that should control a scene switch. Using the method R1CH showed in his "making of his app", it would be possible to adapt it to almost any game or situation. Leave your requests/suggestions in a comment.
Edit:
I personally think the best way to actually solve these needs for auto-switching, would be to implement them into XSplit via Flash-plugins. Kind of like how 'Ascend' has made a plugin for his StarBoard. However, I'm waiting for the final release before looking more into that.

Pretty much every AAA title will get some form of stream. It sounds like it would be more work than it's worth tbh. I will definitely use this for my sc2 streams and tournament.

Weird. The error message is not from my program, nor can I link it to Microsoft Framework. I honestly don't know what it is - though it seems to point to Google Docs (?). I'm definitely not running any jscript through WSH.
The app runs on 32/64 bit, and so does the Microsoft Framework (same installation file).

I had the same issue as well.
To remedy this error:
1. I went to the link by the OP to download(Google Docs).
2. In the upper right I chose to 'Download original file'. This seemed to download it as a .zip, rather than the CTRL+S which didn't do it for me.
3. It will download the 3 files that show on the Google page (Autoscene/InputSim/WinsockOrca).
4. I then right clicked the Autoscene file that downloaded and extracted it. Worked flawlessly after that and setting the hotkeys to the same ones I use in Xsplit.

I don't know if it is hard - all I can say is due to the reg key for Razer equipment it was very easy for SC2.

those are the games i stream most, i haven't found good settings for mw3 so it lags while i play and we cant have that

Just updated the app to version 1.5. The following have been implemented:
v. 1.5 (Jan 14th 2012)
- Added option: Bring SC2 on top of other windows if you have queued up for a game

I haven't been watching player streams as much lately, so I would like to know: is it possible to automatically show whom the streamer is playing when he ladders? Often times when watching streams you miss the loading screen and have no idea whom the streamer is up against. So this feature would be very cool imo. (Or maybe it already is implemented?)

I have already begun developing such a feature, but it is not even close to release yet. Have patience .
I just updated the app to support League of Legends, but as I have absolutely no idea how to play or when it normally is a good time to switch scenes, I need some LoL players' feedback. If you want to test the LoL mode, make sure to download v. 1.6 (link is in the OP) and let me know what could be changed/improved.

I tried it out on LoL and it worked great. If possible do you think you can make a 3rd instance where it would check so that you can make a 3rd scene where it would trigger when you enter champ selection?

Indeed, I saw that too  . But I believe the TeamLiquid players already use R1CH's version, so he probably just forgot to enable it .

Doesn't 'Alt+Tab' cover your needs? Alt+tab should fire whenever the game isn't in focus (active window).

Yeah i need somethig like that, is more like change scene when game isnt focus and when game back to focus change to correct scene(ingame or menu). But i dont know how i can do that. Thank you for answer.

Hey great program. I played league of legends borderless and when I switch into a game the hotkeys don't activate, but when I switch out to menu they do. I'm not sure why, coudl you offer some support?

For me it don't work in LoL, the app tell me if i'm in game or in menu correctly, but never switch scene.
I am using dxtory on game scene, and xsplit screen region on menu scene, i don't know if it's related.

edit2 : it worked once, but now i still have the same problem, strange
edit3 : ok i get it, when the game is about to switch between game and menu screen if i spam left mouse click outside of LoL window it work, is it because of the windowed mode?
edit4 : it work well with "ctrl + a" and "ctrl + z" as hotkeys, but not working with "F9" and" F10" or "ctrl + F9" and "ctrl + F10", it's very weird, but it works so i'm very please.

Winamp is supported
I made the feature generic, so it should work with a range of media players. It will probably be easier to list those that don't work (which is why I haven't made a list of supported players).

It's not working for me
I have it downloaded and it detects SC2, even says it realizes when it's in game and in menus, but doesn't switch scenes for me. I have the hotkeys matched exactly to my Xsplit hotkeys and I'm getting nothing. I have the option checked in the menus to show player names at the beginning of a replay, which it does, but I can't get it to switch scenes. Help?

In the options, try switching to API over hot keys. Then match the names of your scenes in the main window, instead of the hot keys. Or try different hot keys, personally I have tested and use Ctrl+F8 and F9.

Alright - just found a bug that seems to have been messing up people's very first setup. Basically, it should work fine, once you've setup everything, then exit the app and then run the app. But it didn't, if you didn't restart the app. This is also consistent with some of the recent feedback. Sorry about that.

We too are having problems with basic scene switching after the XSplit v1.0 upgrade. Nothing seems to be working, API, hotkeys, restarting. Very frustrating, would love to try some of the new features available in the progy. Help!

this program used to work previous patch of xsplit but not doesnt seem to work this patch... It says it xsplit is running and app status is running but starcraft isnt detected. also there seems to be "lol" where starcraft used to be on the program.

Hit F1 while the app is running and PM me any messages in the debug log. Let me know if you are using it for SC2 and if you are using API or Hotkeys in options. Finally make sure you using the latest version from the OP.

Yeah, it's a bit tricky to get the data, and afaik the different providers tend to change their layout etc. often, so sadly it's not something I'm working on currently. I'll keep it in mind if I stumble across something that makes it easy though

I haven't tested my app on the KR client myself, but please try using the 'API' switch mode (over the 'Hotkey' mode). You set that up in options.

2 questions, Any chance of the source code being released in case someone wants to tackle the dota 2 port for it.(I'm interested ) and how did you find out that the registry settings were being used for tracking menu and in game. As for your questions, I found out the reg keys by coincidence reading about Razer's colored features on ie. their Banshee headsets. It is also possible to detect by reading the memory area of the sc2.exe, but I don't want to do that. For LoL I read a log file that the game writes events to, so all in all my approach is pretty straight forward. You just need to use tools like regmon or filemon to help you find the possibilities. Not all games provide these easy solutions though. I haven't looked at Dota 2, and I would really like to wait until the game is closer to release/final in order not to have to start over. As for the source code, I've decided to hold on to it for now, sorry. However I monitor this thread as well as my TL pm's everyday and appreciate any suggestions for the app.

I completely understand that. The reason I asked is that so maybe as the game progresses you could just have people fork branches off your code to do the dota 2 part and maintain it? Also while the method of figuring out if the game is currently in a game might change, the addition of it to the program overall wouldn't no? Without looking at the source code it's hard to say, but I imagine it'd be something as small as changing a method that handles the check for dota 2's status. I really like your program and the idea so that's why I'm quite interested in getting it to work for dota 2.

Yeah, each supported game (SC2/LoL) already has it's own procedure for checking the game mode and reacting to it, so adding a new one is not a problem. The time consuming part is to determine the identifier that is used to determine which scene to switch to, and then making sure it's consistent across different OS'es, regions and clients. Once that is established it's quite easy to implement using the existing functions. In case you want to contribute doing the legwork (for starting points check the tools I mentioned in my last post) I'd happy to credit you in the about box. For the record I have not received any donations (and I'm actually just fine with that). PM me if you want to discuss it more

There's no functionality in my app that can cause that.
However XSplit can remove sources that are no longer active, such as an image if it is deleted on the hard drive. It should not happen for neither Screen Region or GameSource though.

The source i am using is the starcraft 2 process SC2.exe *32

Awesome program, I have 2 suggestions - would it be possible to make the advertisment feature use the twitch/own3d user/pass so you don't have to have the window open? And it would be great if there was another scene option for when SC2/LoL isn't running, or to enforce the 3rd scene in this case.

I'll definitely look into the new Kraken 2.0 API from twitch once it's done, so expect a revamp of the ad system in the near future.

I'm trying to use this app with League of Legends since using screen region and borderless has pretty shitty results for me. Scene 1 uses the game source functionality so I can run League of Legends fullscreen. Scene 2 is just a screen region source so I wanted to use Scene 2 for both the menu and the alttabbed scene. The scene will occasionally change but only from game to alttabbed never from alttabbed to game I think (I'm still a little bit puzzled by when it does work and when it doesn't work but I think this is the case). The switcher does correctly recognize that I'm alttabbing out and going back in game but it doesn't seem to switch te scenes. Looking in the debug it comes up with this:

Based on the log, it seems it really can't switch to the game scene (there are no successes logged at least). I'll take a look this weekend to make sure my app and XSplit are working 'in sync' on the latest XSplit version. Will update soon

Is there a way to have it set to a scene when your game isnt running? sometimes it will stay on "to menu" scene even after i close the game. BTW GREAT app its freaking amazing. keep up the great work!!!!! i use it with league of legends

I currently do not have plans for it, for several reasons. One is that I think OBS has (or will have) a plugin API which makes the approach of an application "wrong" and it would need a re-write. There's also the part stated in my signature that conflicts a bit  . I'm sure if you reach out to R1CH or someone on the team, they will be able to help you though.

Those that requested that the app should switch to the Alt+Tab scene when existing game, as far as I can see it does.
For anyone curious, I'll keep working on this project as long as it makes sense and the features it provides/being requested are not otherwise included in XSplit etc.

Nevermind sorted myself. If anyone else has this error it is because you have removed Windows Media Player
from your system (Add/Remove Windows Components).

Hell I'm having issues getting the scene changer to work in dual mode...error msg (SC2 PC) Failed to switch scene to Inmenus. Coundn't find the button (check the name) or xsplit. its running and the auto scene on the xsplit pc shows it changing the scenes, but no actually in xsplit help?

Hey there! I use your Scene Changer to play LoL in both the North America and the Latin America servers. In the NA servers it works great. However, in the LATAM servers it has the issue of not returning me to the menu screen. I think I know why this is. It seems that you are detecting the name of the window. In the English version the name of the chat client is "PVP.net Client". However in Spanish, the name is "Cliente PVP.net". The patcher and the game in both English and Spanish are the same, so that functionality works and is detected. So only the differnce is in the pvp.net application. Right now with your app it can go into a game, but going back to the menu scene is not getting detected because your app assumes that the game exited.
Could you please update your program so it works with both Latin American versions of LoL in Spanish? I would appreciate it a lot!
