I think a lot of the hype is more about the potential of this guy. He is only 18, he's got the potential to go really far. Also, stop making excuses when players lose. Excuses like "he was tired/jet-lagged/didn't try because it wasn't important/it was online" does only one thing, and that is take away from the player that won that game.

Didn't use a dropship until 17:00 in game minutes (for marines).
Didn't split MM at all against fungals he knew were coming.

While I think MMA probably was actually tired this game here if MMA was playing at 100% would be closer, but I'm not so sure the outcome would be different. I still don't see the extreme fuss over him.

are stupid. Why are you searching for excuses for his opponent?
Did you ever ask yourself why you often see hilariously bad mistakes in pro games, while
in a pro vs semi-pro / third rated player, the pro 99% stomps the other guy without making a mistake while making his opponent looking like a huge scrub?
Downplaying his games / achievements is disgusting.

You seem to miss where I say the outcome might have been the same if MMA was playing at the top of his game. I'm not dismissing the guys talent because his strategy is quite good, but if you think that was MMA's 100% you're sadly mistaken. I could list more examples from that game, but why bother obviously I'm a Stephano hater.

Edit: You EU players seem to really stick to you guys. I wish I was this angry when everyone was dogging Huk.... Oh wait I'd rather have a reasonable discussion on the topic at hand.

I claim Stephano was tired and didn't play 100% and you can't prove otherwise. See how constructive this is?

edit: He was also tired and had to pee vs Ryung in case you wonder so that loss doesn't count.

Yup you got me. MMA played perfectly. Bronze players know how to split up MM, but he feels like keeping them tight together is a solid strategy especially against infestors. You're too invested in this guys ladder run which again is only a ladder run lmfao. I wouldn't mind if he wins MLG, but apparently he is already better than every NA,EU,KOR that exists, but he feels like LANs are a waste of time. Hopefully he does win then all your coattail riding becomes worth it then right???? right?

Long thread for a ladder run that wasn't even the best EU has seen. Stephano is really good, everyone should know that already. Now can we stop arguing about something that is already highly inconsequential?

Apart from being pretty good at the game, Stephano's music on his stream is the best going around. Heard Nirvana the other day and Dire Straits today, can't believe he is only 18 with that taste!

No wub wub wub to be heard :D

The question is, how come none made a hype thread about the much more deserving 93% win rate that Happy had a couple of seasons ago? ... I guess e-sports fans are less like a regular sports fans and more like a bunch of groupies.

happy was not called "gosu top 3 zerg in the world" by SlayerS_MMA, this is not only about his ladderrun but also why is his ladderrun so great.

I like watching Stephano stream, but can't tell if he's trolling with his builds. Zerglings and creep tumors all day, minimal gas into upgrades with smooth timings to keep the evolution chambers working. He drops macro hatches like other players put down spines. The style is amazingly successful on the ladder. Is it safe though? Hope so because it is fun to watch.

Oh pleaazzzze, and DRG called Thorzain the best foreing player in the world.. what about that? at least Thorzain has something to show for it.. what has Stephano done? what LANs has he won or was close to winning? none, nothing, nada, zero. That's why I used the term groupies.. let's wait and see how he does at IPL.. my hunch? he's gonna get dismantled by the koreans....

^ actually he was pretty close to winning one of the two LANs he attended, Assembly, where he among others owned Sen and lost in an incredibly close series to dimaga (who later won the tournament), stephano taking 3rd place.

i think alot of people are forgetting a crucial aspect of stephanos ladder run when comparing it to others. Sure alot of pros have had crazy records at the start of a season, or on smurf accounts... But stephanos ladder run began when he was either 1st or top 5 grand masters on EU server. His 64-1 record was all while being #1 on eu halfway (or longer) through a season, meaning his MMR was already stupidly high from the first game, he didnt have any free wins from like low low masters league players or randoms from the start of the season.

assembly and hsc3 ?

You obviously never saw him play, so keep the hate to yourself.

Nobody cares about your hunch btw. He may loose, he may win, in either situation i m sure he will provide good entertainment to the viewers.

There have been a number of Terrans who have held 85%+ win streaks on ladder. This is because the ladder has close positions. I can't recall ever seeing a zerg post such a high win rate on ladder before.

Some points about his recent play that distinguish him from other zergs:

1) He always spreads creep well, so he's able to get surrounds, retreat if he needs to, and get queens involved in battle.
2) He's always splitting his lings up into 2 or 3 groups on the fly so he can flank or defend multiple positions.
3) He gets early ling speed, but generally runs on low gas until 4+ bases.
4) He's constantly re-setting his hatchery rally points to his army. It's surprising how few people do this. Especially beneficial when you're mostly building speed lings.
5) He's not afraid to spam out spines and spores.
6) He'll often throw up 3+ macro hatches late game.

I've seen him play.. great macro and potential, his fans are a bunch groupies though and probably his biggest obstacle to improve -- as apparently he won't leave france because his team believes he's better off winning against nobodies in local french tournies -- IPL wasn't paid by his team.

This.

French SC2 scene is not focused on what really matter : International visibility. It's a real shame. Most players (ToD being an exception) are awful in English and feel very comfortable staying in a country where the SC2 scene is quite small and isolated from the International scene.

The french SC2 league (The EGG One Starleague) had little to no coverage on TL. Why? Because french stream was the only one available. Would you imagine a Dreamhack stream in Swedish and not in English?

Come on Stephano, don't fall for this. Join a big, international team, or at least push Millenium to internationalize itself.

Yeah, and next MLG isn't ? Check your facts please. You're talking about some rumours that have been proven wrong long ago.
