If what the coL site posted is true, then Stephano and Millennium lost a lot of fans. Despicable.

Considering the Sneaky Snake moves they did with vVvTitan i wouldn't expect anything different from CoL. At all.

They are actually going to try and take Legal action if i'm correct after reading the Official Statement.

Hrm... Not good

Did you even read it?

Yeah I READ IT

I think the more important question is...

Did you comprehend it?

I don't see how Complexity was in the wrong at all, they made an offer and Mil was given the opportunity to counter. Based on the Complexity post, they were absolutely by the book, and Mil's post doesn't even really say they did anything obviously wrong other than the vague, "they disoriented him".

If you sign a legally binding contract you should honor it. If you do not you not only degrade yourself but esports in general since it perpetuates the idea that people can just do as they please with out any repercussions. If Stehpano is allowed to do this it makes future sponsors and teams think twice about actually participating within the scene due to the shaky ground it is set on.

This is not a signature but a verbal agreement. I do not think Col has received the signed contract from what I understand. So for me, Col made the announcement too early without having received the signed contract.

Also in French law, there is a time to retract.

Gogo Stephano!

lol wowzers, I can understand Mill's point, but a contract is a contract, and if Mr Lake says something is hurting ESPORTS it's hurting ESPORTS

He's an insanely talented player and deserves to be paid like one.

The news come has a total surprise : CoL announcing it first ? Millenium without any "goodbye & best luck" news like they did for ToD and HuK when they left ?

If Millenium knew about theses negotiations, they obviously would have either proposed a counteroffer then, or said goodbye to Stephano & wish him the best luck, but certainly not wait until CoL announced they recruited him.

And Millenium reaction also supports this theory:
They found that during the night coL convinced their top player to sign with them without being able to respond? They counteroffer: I guess that was the only move possible for them.

Legally binding contracts and laws from one country don't always transfer over to contracts and laws in other countries.

Legal stuff is very messy with regards to international business.

Because of the way they worded their Official Statement...

And also there was a previous occurence of a possible Shoddy contract from CoL to vVvTitan

Sounds like ultimately this will be decided by whether or not Stephano is able to opt-out of a contract (French law?) before a set time passes. If he is, then I don't see what coL is going to accomplish by taking legal action against either Stephano or Mill. It is unfortunate for coL. that their offer was accepted and then later spurned, but if Stephano is legally able to do that coL should simply move on and learn from this experience.

the attempt is more symbolic than anything really. Contracts must be honored in SC2 or we will be stuck in a real shitty financial situation.

5- Stephano would've been "one of the highest paid SC2 players in the world" at Complexity and they ensured that he would get "global travel" including to Korea.

why would he prefer to stay with Millenium? I don't get it... Ok its his home team and all that jaz, but come on here, huk left TL for the same reason, money speaks louders in this world, lol.

Yeah and Stephano/his fans aren't biased at all.

Who isn't? CoL will be biased to CoL, Mil will be biased to Mil, Stephano will be biased to Stephano.

So far CoL has a history of contract "misfortunes", with Destiny, vvvTitan and now Stephano. So who to believe?

Honestly, I hope coL does take legal action if they can. Players in esports need to realize that a contract is binding and you can't just go back on it.

I dont understand why the millenium statement talks about french identity so much. Tarson, Diestar and Lalush are all non-french.

This looks like a lose-lose situation if complexity decides to sue Millenium... either Stephano and Millenium are pissed or complexity embarrasses itself by not knowing french law if it applies here.
They should just try to get or force Mill into negotiations or at least the mentioned discussion (open or closed).
Also, I think Millenium is pulling the national pride card to their advantage. That's lame.

You should go back to the first grade and learn how to read. It clearly states there were 18 days of negotiations. There was NO immediate pressure. In the end it was Stephano's decision, and he signed a legally binding contract with compLexity.

Not sure how many people know this but Jason Lake is a lawyer and the only way coL will give up Stephano back to Millennium would be to avoid drama. Jason Lake will win if he wants to.

You don't have printers/scanners in France? Or I'm pretty sure Stephano has a mic with which you can record statements.

I think this is going to become way more interesting when they slander/libel/defamation lawsuit goes forward regarding the situation. Its not just going to be a contract situation. europe is soft on contracts. Its pretty lame who knows what will happen. Depending upon the situation you might be required to give a 24 hour cancel period as well so who knows if that was met or not. I'm guessing not.

I'm guessing CoL sues because they know they can win. They get a nice transfer fee. Plus a little extra for the way the press release was worded and there done with the euro business for awhile.

From coL's statement:
2) For the next 18 days we conducted negotiations. We would make an offer and Millennium would make a counter offer. At no point did we apply pressure other than to make it clear that we were willing to do what it would take to secure his services.

So according to that they were proposing counter offers.
