If you sign a contract, you still have some time to reverse your mind in France.

If Col had actually negotiated with Mill regarding Stephano, Mill would've had proper time to respond and offer Stephano a new competitive contract. As it is, Col tried it the dirty way and failed.

Personally I'm sick of all the money thrown around to recruit top players from other teams. Build your own goddamn team and actually develop something instead of eye'ing the aces of other teams. Clearly these guys are incompetent coaches and have nothing except money.

According to coL they had contact and counter offers with Millenium so what the hell are you talking about?

I think part of the problem is that Stephano does not speak English, iirc. It is easy to see how he could be misinformed or confused, given that.

What is clear is that he signed with complexity for some reason and then got cold feet. Who knows why he didn't end up wanting to honor his contract with coL, it could just be guilt/loyalty to a French team.

But I'm not sure if he even knows that this has gone public yet, because I doubt he reads this forum or coL's website (again, probably not reading English websites).

He may be under the impression that it is okay for him to back out of the contract (since Millenium is probably telling him that it is alright and what he should do, etc.). If that's the case, he probably didn't know until after he backed out from signing with complexity that it would be a major shit storm.

Of course I am just conjecturing, but I'm conjecturing under what I think is a valid assumption. I think Millenium is looking out for Millenium and Complexity is looking out for Complexity. And in the middle you have Stephano who probably did not entirely understand the situation, or did not communicate properly with the right parties, probably because he doesn't speak English.

I think Naniwa was just joking about Stephano doing this for the money. But it's clear to me that a move this bad wouldn't be calculated. Bottom line is Stephano fucked up hard, but it really doesn't seem like it was on purpose. But really we just have to wait for more information before anything can be said for certain.

Why? I bet he's making more money than he was before.

Are you suggesting Stephano thought, "Hey how about I sign a contract with another team to blackmail my way into more money with Millenium"?

No.

If I were to guess it'd be that yes. coL made an offer that Mill couldn't overcome and Stephano signs with coL, Mill decides to give in and make a big offer for Stephano. Stephano wants DAT MONEY and signs with Mill.

I'm happy that coL won't give up without a fight, even though realistically they probably won't win. Ridiculous move by Stephano...

If they have been in talks for months and then stephano signs a contract and all of a sudden renags then somethings gonna have to give. either Stephano is leaving millenium or millenium is paying some kind of fine (which would have to be arbitrated in a private court of law). This is stupid.

Millenium will send him to Korea and MLG, Millenium will probably get a team house in France, Millenium is French organisation for easy communication and Millenium got a stronger line up as CoL so ?

coL and MVP are a joint organisation which means, DRG training Stephano. If he goes to Korea under coL of course.

That's not even close to 10x, which was the point he was trying to make. If you're going to breach a contract, it damn well be worth it and then some.

what?

are you saying comparing serious contractual disputes to fucking cliche internet memes is bad posting?

crazy.

most posters here are making too many assumptions based off limited information.

They coerced him back after he already signed the contract? C'mon man you can't do that. You already lost if he signed it.

how is talking to a player whos contract is ending with one team poaching?
stephano's contract ended, col offered him a deal and stephano signed before he waited for millenium to counter offer

sounds like stephano jumped ship without even thinking

also the notion of complexity management being incompetent coaches is a fucking atrocity, have you ever seen jason lake behind his counterstrike team?

No.

Why not? Happens all the damn time. Well except for the signing part. he goofed up that part.

This. Sport players do this all the time. Work two teams at once and have them bidding on you. Sometimes even have someone "leak" info that one side is offering you more than they actually are to bump the price up.

Except they don't actually sign a contract, change their mind, and allowed to the other team. Usually when this happens a player gets traded or bought out. Since I don't think you're allowed to trade a player (right?), Millenium would have to pony up money to buy out the contract to keep Stephano.

Stephano is at the height of his popularity at the second. He just went through the IPL and beat some top Koreans to get there. He's getting a lot of hype and this was his best chance to cash it in.

Based on the information we have so far, this. Seriously why else would he back out like...hours later?

How long typically? If this is the case, complexity was probably unaware of the french rules.

Stronger Line up? While I'm sure people can disagree and agree with that, but coL has DRG and the entire MVP house, plus talented player such as Cruncher and Tri-Master, who while not be the greatest, could surely give stephano a run for his money. If Stephano really wanted to get better, CoL would be the better choice, they have connections in Korea where he could train and possibly become the greatest foreigner to ever grace Starcraft 2. Yet you say Millenium has a better line up?

Millenium has a very talented Roster, boasting Adelscott, Tarson, and LaLush but Complexity has the stronger line up all around, and better connections.

Wait... are you serious? The funny thing is, I kind of believe France would do something like that. That totally distorts the whole purpose of a contract. The time to think is before you sign.

Additionally to that:

Why are so many people convinced of the fact that the contract is indeed legally binding when it comes to legal action? Because it has "contract" written on it?

Do you just tend to not read important information from sources that are actually involved in this drama before posting? Jason Lake has said they had been negotiating for quite awhile with Mill for Stephano.

The «wrongdoings» aren't Mill's but Steph's, personnaly. It's not about buying back a player for them, it's about Stephano wanting to cancel his contract with coL BEFORE receiving anything from it. It's his problem and I don't see why he couldn't do it if complexity still hasn't taken any measure for his arrival.

Millenium has close to nothing to do with this to me.

Agreed. Not a single legal thing is gonna happen.
