this is actually an expected result, in games you lose you tend to spend every bit of resources you have to stay alive, but since your income is behind your opponents you lose anyway in the end, but on average your unspent resources was very low.

ended up with an sq of 83 over 15 games... TTwTT need to spend money better

it's definitely easier to spend money in mech TvT; i ended up with an SQ of 97 for a 38 minute tvt, so terrans could get a higher SQ based on whether they go bio or mech for tvt

Not possible because SC2Gears can't calculate income or unspent resources as that needs the game engine, would be cool thuogh.

Great analysis. My only gripe would be that a big part of the reason why Grandmaster have much better macro, is because they are better in all the other area's of the game, like decision making and unit management during battles, which in tern makes their macro better (ie: not losing worker, having to build extra units etc)

The data helps to define "standard" play, but simply macro'ing like a Grandmaster, will not make you a grandmaster.... in fact, unless you have Grandmaster micro and decision making, there is no way you can have grandmaster macro, because your opponent won't let you.

I'm in diamond, and my average SQ is 66.2. Seems about right. Funnily enough, my highest individual SQ (105) was from a game I got 6pooled and lost (didn't count it in the average). Also I had a couple of 40's from 30-40 minute games where I was banking money hard.

To those that dont know how to calculate the standard error of the mean. In the SQCalc.xls document put this into a cell of your choosing =STDEV((E3:E22))/(SQRT(COUNT(E3:E22)))
If you fill the list of 20 games it should work, if you don't fill the list of games you'll have to change e22 to whatever cell you stopped at.
If you have a big discrepency in your SQ from game to game I recommend you to calculate this as it gives you an idea of the margin of error.
Also I suggest you don't pick and chose which games you want on the list, just use the 20 latest games with 600 or above income otherwise you'll end up with skewed results, doing this and instead being aware of the standard error of the mean is a better way to go about it.

Good gawd. SQ is fantastic. It's really friggin' cool to have such a number that in some way relates directly to your skill. Maybe someday we'll have people comparing SQ with their buddies to see where they stand, instead of APM!

That was an amazing post, I am very impressed, love the SQ, should help me set a lot more manageable goals. I wasn't able to get a very big sample size (I only have 5 wins in 1v1), but my average ended up being around 60, (I'm platinum league). Seems about right, very encouraging as well. Keep this awesome analysis up (and I submitted a replay to Skillcraft, that is an awesome project).

I couldn't calculate it, but it could probably take it from the post-game numbers and just plug those into the equation and keep a running average.
