I suspect that the numbers may be off if you que up units? Does queuing units count them as spent resources, and if so does SQ become incorrect when you que units? How many games did you sample? I'd argue you should sample about 20 since it'd give you a reasonably broad range accounting for days you were tired, days you were baller and everything in between. There are Plat players with your SQ score so you're not totally alone. It could suggest your build orders, strats and micro may not have received the same level of attention. I know when I play aggressively (Diamond league here) my macro takes a major slip compared to games where I more passively defend.
I used 20 games and the linked excel file to do the calculations. But yes, my macro, although awful, is miles ahead of my micro.

Nice work, looks like you put a lot of work into it

I am a low diamond player. After using this equation for my last 20 games, my average SQ was 71. I went 9-11 in that stretch of 20 games and strangely enough my average SQ for games that I won was 66 and for games that I lost was 74. I seem to play better in the games that I lose.

What the fucking hell, this OP is awesome! So much work, so good.
Props to the maker of this. Just insane.

You macro better, you spend more of your money more efficiently. That does not =/= playing better when you are losing.

@OP I know you did it mostly out of curiosity, but I feel we own you a big thanks! So Thank you!!
This was inspiring!

Hmm, average SQ was 84 over 20 games for mid-high masters. Sucks that my decision making is really bad.

This man deserves a star next to his name.

This was a good read, and very polished too!

wow!! this is one of the best written posts i have come across on TL.. very scientifically written.. love the attention to detail.. way to go.. one suggestion.. u cud try polishing it up a bit and try submitting to some conference.. this has so much results and analysis that it is worthy of a publication! well done and gratz!!

Wow Impressive work. Nice.

I'm going to test if queuing affects the average unspent.
Both times I am going through the same rough build order.
1. Whenever I have spare money, I must queue something up to spend it, and cancel to continue build order at last moment. 2. Queue as little as possible.
Just using a standard terran BO with the end point when orbital finishes. If queuing does affect the unspent resources, there should be a significant difference.
In the end my results were 57 average, queuing as much as humanly possible. I ran out of stuff to spend money on towards the end of the test. 110 average for not queuing.
Not the most scientific of methods, but the difference is large enough to tell that in fact, queuing does make a HUGE difference in terms of unspent resources so if you play terran, and you get an SQ above and beyond your league, go into your replays and see how much you queue. Queuing does affect your unspent resources.

I macro by scrolling to different production buildings and then click on the unit I want to build with my mouse. So I guess to answer the OP's title question, No, I don't.
It also amazes me how you can turn a fun game into a maths class.

Put more work into your threads OP.
lol just kidding, this is amazing. Now I know what link to send noobs when they deny that better macro will help them improve.

This is amazing, and pretty cool to see GM being 'so far' ahead of masters.

i'm shocked. It's one thing to not like or to criticize the OP's work, but if you can't even take the time to read thoroughly and show some sort of appreciation for what he's done, then just don't bother posting.

This is Fucking awesome. We are covering linear models and stat plots in my Statistics class so this actually made sense to me which I'm very proud of!!! Super interesting data, especially the graph that showed that silver-masters occupies such a small band compared to bronze and GM. Super interesting, needs a spotlight! EDIT: and has one, lol.

This post is so amazing! Thank you very very much!

lol beautiful graphs there i have to say!! GJ OP :D
In the simplest definition (imo), Macro skill = ability to produce high income + efficiency of managing(spending) the income.
idra is indeed a macro machine XD
