The star players for DreamHack Valencia Invitational have now been set after the Spanish star LucifroN defeated his brother Vortix this evening. The last two players presented are no other than the Korean stars HerO and Rain who will fight for the 100 000 SEK on the 17th of September.
Around the corner is DreamHack's second Invitational hosted at beautiful Veles e Vents building located in the Valencia Street Formula1 Circuit and the 33rd America’s Cup harbour. Tonight the Spanish Champion was decided between the two brothers LucifroN and Vortix. We welcome LucifroN to DreamHack Valencia Invitational and we are sure he will do an impact in the tournament. LucifroN is one of the most successful European WarCraft III players with great achievements, Runner up of Blizzcon 2008, ESWC Masters Cheonan 2009 Champion and winner of BlizzCon 2009 European Regionals.
DreamHack can present Team Liquid’s newest addition to Valencia, HerO. The feared Protoss player had a strong showing at MLG Raleigh and just qualified for GSL October Code A. The last player to be presented is none other than Fnatics power Terran Rain who lives in USA nowadays. He was the runner up of GSL Open Season 3 and have had strong showings at the last two MLGs.
The Chinese player Infi has unfortunately canceled his participation due to restructuring of TyLoo’s RTS division.

Wait, Lucifron still plays? Haven't heard of him in ages, where has he been? :o
edit: nvm, just won zotac recently, I am stupid... phew... glad that the story with action jesuz was a joke, kind of feel stupid that I believed it... <.<
Scumbag Dreamhack, not using the actual shadows of the right players...
Clearly one was WhiteRa. That being said, great list (hurray for Hero!), I found the choice of Lucifron odd though, he's doing surprisingly well for his comeback but I don't know if he has the ability of other EU players to play on par.

LucifroN's invite was based on him being the best player from the host country. I think you'll find that he does have the ability to compete.
But actually, HerO will win the whole thing. HERROOOOOOO.

Lucifron qualified tonight, he represents spain as its hosted there. I am curious to see how he'll do against what is arguably the highest average skill group of players assembled outside of Korea
Not often Idra looks like one of the underdogs. I'm expecting Hero to win his first major tournament here but would love DRG or Naniwa to prove me wrong.
This player list is so strong I don't think I will skip a single game, go Dreamhack!
The skill level of this particular group of 8 is very high. I can't wait to see the high level games that will come from this tournament. Very excited! Great group of players. Good job Dreamhack!
LucifroN to win convincingly if he can dodge TvT imo, his TvZ is absolutely out of this world (Crushed Stephano, Nerchio and LaLusH lately and made them look terrible, as well as destroying MaNa)
Lucifron was kicking some ass during the beta, but yeah, haven't seen him around much since. I did see his play in the qualifier though, and his micro remains amazing (like microing 4 hellions in and out of a medivac to kill like 30 speedlings). I'm not sure if he can keep that up past 3 bases though, but hopefully he can!
last time I've seen LucifroN play was back at IEM Cologne in 2010 August, and his unit control was pretty sick as pointed out even by Day[9] himself back then, but haven't heard of him for ages. either way, he even seemed like a very good-mannered player back then, so I'm going to root for him!
I haven't been paying enough attention to the EU scene - didn't know Lucifron was back.
The two most memorable things about him to me was that beta game with Jinro on Kulas Ravine that I think day9 nicknamed after some famous US civil war battle, and him getting cheesed out of some tourney by ActionJesus.

Wow more rain hate how surprising ... hes shown he can own even the best foreigners and yet there's still people like you saying hes a scrub. Plus he has a 70% win ratio on TLPD.
Cant wait for him to get 1st and prove all the people who still hate/doubt him wrong.
I love these choices. The Koreans are good up-and-coming players, the foreigners are the players that can compete with them and there's a good distribution of teams and nationalities. I can't wait for these games.
It's sad infi can't make it as I really wanted to see what the chinese scene playstyle was like for terran. Rain is an interesting replacement for Infi and should put on a good show though I wouldn't favour him to win this tournament. That said, awww yeah lucifron made it ^-^. I'm torn on the choice of liquid Hero, half the time he's like a really nice solid player (with sick micro) and half the time he's the cheesiest cheese face I've seen beside Hongun when it comes to protoss.
I want to see quality games from all the players this tournament with nothing being decided by voidray/stalker rushes or sixpools or proxy 11/11 rax bunker rushes. I'm not saying I don't support the odd cheese or weird strat that's a bit abusive but it gets unappealing if it makes up half of what we see.

But all of these players can beat him, though idk about Lucifron.
Then again we have hardly seen anything from Nani since his korea training kicked in.
I feel like it's too soon for his training to start kicking in. Took Jinro & HuK a while before they got going. Obviously, the 3 koreans are the favourites here, but I think Thorzain is somewhat of a dark horse.
very nice invites i have to say, also lucifron - many people may not heard of him, but he is performing really sick in europe these days and i am excited to see if he can keep up with that sick of a lineup.. cya there :D
Omg, excited about lucifron. He manhandled mana, nercio, stephano in one the recent online competitions casted by Rottie and MrBitter. Forgot which one though
On September 07 2011 08:29 LolitsPing wrote: They need to change HuK's picture. But HerO and Lucifron? O.M.G.
Lucifron is homeboy , he is from Spain . More people gonna come watch . But i dont understand your HerO omg.. he is reallly top tier pro player , he fits her really good.
I like how everyone points out that Huk is wearing the Liquid shirt, but they overlook the fact that Rain is wearing a TSL jersey instead of a fnatic one.
On September 07 2011 09:43 endy wrote: EG must love to see their player with a TL shirt on the poster... Hero vs DRG final
Yeah because thats what matters right?
Anyway, I expect Huk to defend his title. Hes finally had a chance to relax and return to his practice regime.
of course it matters. just like how fnatic wouldn't be happy with Rain in his TSL uniform. Sponsors want their players advertising their brand not competitors'...
Hero has quickly become one of my favorite players. I love his playstyle so much. He seems to play like HuK but slightly more on the solid side... fewer cute tricks, but more powerful and calm micro overall. I really think Liquid`Hero has the framework to become one of the best players out there.
Shame about Infi not being able to make it. In all honesty he probably isn't all that great anyways (losing to Loner in the LG tournament). Honestly I wish it had been Boxer, July or Nada to replace him instead of Hero but oh well. Can't predict the results until a bracket comes out but in terms of player strength I would currently rank the 8 players

MC is the defending Champion (for Dreamhack Invitational atleast)
Hope LucifroN can prove the doubters wrong. His play in last weeks IEM qualifier made me an instant fan. He made look Stephano and Mana look like scrubs with solid macro play and insane multitasking/micro.

I would be extremely surprised if anyone outside the top tier wins this competition, and I would be surprised if IdrA or Lucifron get past their first opponent.
DRG will probably take the tournament unless herO or mayyyyybe idra takes him out (drg hasn't been too impressive in these areas). herO and Rain I could see easily being defeated by thorzain, naniwa, or huk. So, good chance a foreigner will win it this time...I hope

Difficult to sort them. Proven by the fact Idra is ranked 7th, even though he is still a beast.
Damn competition is fierce. Naniwa fighting!
Actually I just assumed Lucifron was still as nondescript as he usually was but after looking at his results this past month I'm not so sure. BoX wins over Nerchio, Stephano and Mana are nothing to scoff at. Honestly I could see people arguing for any combination for 2-8, only DRG has consistently proven himself to be above the rest.
Sweet line-up! And 100K SEK on the line means that everyone should go there and show something extraordinary. I think we should not underestimate Thorzain here. Out of the guys going to Korea for short-term practice, I think he is the one that has probably spent the least time travelling and the most time practicing.
Awesome invites! If LucifroN gets matched up against the two zergs, he actually have a decent chance of reaching the finals Anyway, time to see how much NaNiwa have improved in korea. This is going to be super fun!
Uff, uff, rain and thorzain are going to have a really hard time in this tournament to represent Terrans properly. They probably should have invited one really good terran for this, at least the likes of EGPuma

They already have two EG representatives in this tournament so I guess that's one reason Puma isn't there. Or they simply could not get hold of him.
When it comes down to it, they probably couldn't get any of the top Terrans in Korea since they're basically all in Code S by now, and ought to prioritize practice over going out to a comparatively small foreign invitational.
Of course there are some Korean Code A Terrans that might be a better choice skill wise than the current invitees, but they aren't as well known.
On September 07 2011 21:19 human_ko wrote: who is lucifon? lol, why invited..
Well known Spanish Terran and probably one of the better Terrans in whole EU. He has been out of the loop for quite a while (afaik) but is now making a grand return. He's an ideal invite in order to create hype in Spain (which is where the tournament is hosted).
To be honest, as they didn't aim to display the absolute highest level of play with an all Korean lineup, there was no better choice considering the circumstances.

Actually, he just won a tournament not one month ago. It was a small weekly cup, though, which is probably why not many people noticed. But he had to overcome goody and nerchio to claim that gold!

Yeah...no.
From what i saw at the IEM qualifiers he's up there... Or at least close.
I have anxiously been waiting for HuK to win another big tournament and maybe now that he is a little more rested than he was before he can finally do it again :-d
I hope EG does really well this tournament though, even though I hate idra sometimes I always secretly am rooting for him ^_^
This event will have spanish and english casters (2 streams). dApollo and Totalbiscuit will be the english ones.
Being able to broadcast this event on TV (Even though its pay-tv and not many people will watch it there) is pretty huge on its own, so far we are looking at the most relevant e-sports related event in our country (Although Gamegune has more history)

Yeah...no.
He recently beat Stephano (the ZvT sniper) and Mana (the PvT sniper) both 2-0 in the IEM qualifier thing. Long macro games, Lucifron showed some insane multitasking that is rarely seen in the foreigner scene.

You obviously haven't seen him play recently, his TvZ is beyond sick....he made Nerchio and Stephano look completely shit-house and his TvP is not far behind it. If he can dodge TvT for the first round or two i think he will be a contender for sure

Wow! Don't excite me so much. That would be so badass! Want to see how ThorZaiN does in TvZ now since he's been learning to master it in the SlayerS house.
Yeah it's probably just like Tyler said. If Hero can actually play good tournament games instead of just freestyle improvised random wins he will just absolutely destroy everyone. And btw Artosis and Incontrol were nodding simultaneously to that comment by Tyler (sotg 48).
I'm actually really looking forward to this tournament. Dreamhack invitational 2010 was the best tournament in SC2 so far and hopefully 2011 can live up to that.
