So MLG Raleigh shouldn't see any major issues. Any flights going into Raleigh-Durham (RDU) shouldn't have any delays. If the storm happens to change course and begins traveling more westward then there might be an issue. But the storm has consistently been circulating more to the east so expect a the storm to change eastward if anything. Any other questions or updates needed by anyone just give me a heads up. Just takes a phone call from me on my day off to call my office or the Cape Canaveral WX Station here on base. Quoted because people are seemingly glossing over this post. The Air Force has spectacularly good weather models, anything from them should be taken as the highest authority. If the current models say that flights won't even be affected, then there's nothing to worry about.

I would take the word of the airforce alot quicker than i would a weatherman.

I don't delve deep into weather since its only one aspect of my position as a Airfield Management supervisor. Just explain the weather models and current weather readings to pilots who don't understand the Dash report they're supposed to receive before flying operations. Like I said, if anyone wants a further update just let me know. More than happy to take a look at the readings or give a call upward later today or update the thread tomorrow when I go into work.

I am sure the hurricane will not do too much to Raleigh, it is not going that direction and if it did change, it would die down a lot.

Unless you are surrounded by a forest or near a low shoreline, up to cat 3 is hurricane party time. once it goes higher, then yea don't do any of that. Raleigh should be fine. It better fucking be.

The occasional update would be awesome, though it wouldn't have to be more often than 12 or 18 hours (barring some new and threatening developments).

Irene is actually a Cat 4 right now, and is reforming its eyewall, so it's running a little slow. ECMWF and other models are in agreement right now moving the storm slightly N-NW. From the NHC discussion: "SINCE IRENE IS SUCH A LARGE TROPICAL CYCLONE...SIGNIFICANT IMPACTS ARE LIKELY ALONG THE UNITED STATES EAST COAST REGARDLESS OF THE EXACT TRACK IT TAKES." North Carolina just put out a state of emergency for everything east of I-95. In Raleigh I wouldn't expect more than some wind and rain. Gusts shouldn't exceed 30MPH, so the *chance* is still there for a power outage. Whether or not you are going to MLG, if you live on the coast and evacuations are called for, just leave. Don't think you know better, because you don't. I live on the Virginia coast, and am glad to be leaving for the weekend. I drove past a truck today on the way to work full of sandbags :/ Also, I'm not trying to steal any other forecasters thunder, this is just my take on the situation.

Chances of a power failure if the storm brings down some power lines will be the largest threat to MLG this weekend, imo. Im just an armchair weather man though so make sure you listen to the profesionals!
