Rumours/Gossip:

F91 (Chinese SC1/SC2 Zerg) trolled the chinese particapants on how TossGirl is very good at SC2 and was 1800+ Grand Masters in KR servers last season. The chinese players were mentally prepared to be humilated and Sky immediately annouced that he gave up his spot to Loner before the event.

Turns out that Tossgirl doesn't really know how to play SC2 and did not participate in the tournament.

History: F91 lost to Tossgirl in a BW tournament back in 2010 when he was china's WCG champion and was humilated by the chinese community and then annouced his retirement from SC1 shortly after. He is a really good Zerg player playing SC2 now.

It's true lol, fly says he watched tossgirl practicing and "She doesn't seem to know SC2 at all."
And it was in 2009, at Shanghai World Expo, F91 and Super both lose to Tossgirl.

false~super lost to tossgirl in ESWC master series in south korea.

Sucks that Moon lost But this is a good sign, if he is performing so well while training for WCG/WC3. I really think if he can get through the Code A quals, he would get into Code S.

Right... cos we should just expect the latest maps and changed spawn positions in all tournaments and show matches even though this event is filled with wc3 and bw players that probably arent aware than non close position versions of these maps exist. Look at the maps played, they are all ladder or old maps not GSL maps cos nobody but the Koreans play them. Why would you put korean maps in a promotional tournament in china?

We cant be too critical of the competition and map pool cos we have no idea how tournaments are run in the chinese scene and what maps they use. Considering the Chinese server was the last to come online I wouldnt be surprised if they picked those maps because they were the most played and would give the chinese players the best chance against the koreans. That and this tournament had nothing to do with GSL/MLG who alter those maps. If the pool was, daybreak, belshir beach, xelnaga fortress and antiga shipyard then this tournament would be even more of a joke.

I think there was too much hype leading into this event ): no stream and no exposure for something that was done at such a big venue. CPL did better lol.

I'd like to correct you a little bit there. The recent Chinese tournament events (G series, PSTL team league) has GSL equivalent map pools with fixed map spawns, as well as the latest GSL maps (Dual Sight, Crevasse etc). For some inexplicable reason, the sponsor of this tournament is obviously unaware of the importance of utilizing a competitive map pool.

Otherwise the Chinese scene is as up to date as the rest of the world.

i don't say put GSL Maps there

Shattered temple for example,an old map has an ridiculous close spawns, same for metalopolis despite is was removed i think right due to being with bad spawns.
another map that comes to mind ,is every map on the ladder is bad at close spawns except maybe taldarim and few others.

According to wiki cpl china had delta quadrant and slag pits in map pool. I guess maps are not standard across all of them.

Moon takes out MC and NaDa and loses to Loner due to close positions? Trollolololol.

(No offense to Loner; he's just not on the level of NaDa or MC. Though I guess it's nice to see him put up some results again. I don't even know if he's the best Terran in China anymore.)

Anyways, gg wp, Moon. What a boss. <3 And congrats to Loner for coming out ~$9k USD richer! I hope they release replays.

Any idea if they placed the bronze matches?

EDIT: Found a summary of NaDa vs. Moon match on reddit (thanks to mchang227):

Moon 2-1 Nada. Nada goes 2 racks at 11 for game one and two. Moon holds and overwhelms Nada's 2 forward racks and takes over with double his supply in the first game. Nada does the same build in game 2 but gets his bunkers up in time and locks Moon in while massing marines and holding off a desperation nydus. Game 3 is a long macro game with all bases being taken. Moon late game transitions between mass infesters to brood to ultra and back to broods with mass baneling ling support. Nada goes mass tanks with thors and has to constantly defend nydus and drops from Moon in his main. 40 minutes game and eventually Nada runs out of income with no Vikings left to deal with broods. Moon with below average macro (was floating 3k, 2k mid game) but excellent execution.

no offense but you probably don't even know about loner or the sc2 player in china because the china sc2 scene isn't open to america or europe, so you have no idea what you are talking about, how can you say hes not on the level of nada or MC when he beat the person that beat nada and MC....just a fyi Chinese were the second best at sc1, they were not considered foreigners in Korea

china just got the official sc2 release 2-3 months ago, you know when there were close spawns. AND even back then good player could deal with it, example is nestea vs MKP gsl finals, remember nestea won?

Moon loses due to close spawns. Lame, but there was probably some biased Chinese commentary blasting in the background too. No offense, but Chinese eSports has been notorious for their "home-crowd advantage," which isn't limited to its "fans." Of course this is all assumptions, so don't take it too seriously ^^

I actually keep far more tabs on the Chinese SC2 scene than I do on the European or American scenes. Loner is not that great of a player, and in general, Chinese Terrans are simply not that impressive. Just because Loner had a relatively good run early on after the release of SC2 doesn't mean he's managed to keep up with the competition (i.e. the Koreans). I would not trust him in Code A to save my life, though to be fair, I would not trust Moon in Code A either.

Also, saying that Loner > Moon > NaDa + MC makes about as much sense as saying Keen > Bomber > MVP + MC + DRG. Or, you know, Loner > Moon > Bomber > DRG. Jesus Christ, Loner must be as good as Bomber! And Moon must be as good as DRG! Come now, you must know these comparisons are ridiculous. There are few players in the world that are as good as MC, and even I wouldn't claim from these results that Moon is actually better than our resident Kratos Protoss.

I hereby second that notion,

I was personally at China Joy 2011 and in the blizzard section, there was this show match between Fox_Moon and some chinese unknown, and yes it was very obvious to me that the chinese commentator where screaming "hinting" every second of Fox_Moon's action and you can tell that chinese player where adjusting to what the commentator has said.

but in the end Fox_Moon still won the series 2-0 lol~^^

Heres the Moon photo i took on stage: *sorry click on this image to see Moon*

and this guy was the commentator i was talking about with Moon in the background:

Loner's not on the same level as NaDa/MC definitely. And IMO I would have difficulty rating him top 5 in China tbh.

The surprise in this tournament isn't Loner winning Moon on close positions (seems to have been pre-determined based on those maps and positions), but Moon winning MC and Nada. How does Moon perform so well in international events?

He is an unbelievably talented RTS player. There's no reason why he can't destroy the scene should he actually devote to SC2 full-time. We just need to pray for WC3 to fall off WCG's list of titles, then that will actually become an eventuality.
