After a year and a half, FnaticMSI.SC and our Latin American star Jian Carlo "Fenix" Morayra Alejo have agreed to mutually part ways.
Jian Carlo "Fenix" Morayra Alejo was the first member of the new FnaticMSI.SC team, winning the Rookie Draft tournament we held in February 2010. During his first year in Black and Orange, Fenix showed everyone that he had what it took to be a world class player, shocking the scene with a stunning IEM North America victory.
I don't really see how this could be mutual because of how well Fenix has been improving as of late. But i don't know. Sad for them to Lose another player. Sen and now Fenix. Only one i can remember now is TT1 lol
Cleaning up in their roster cuz of lacking results or what is going on? LucifroN, Gretorp, Sen and now Fenix. And the rest of the team doesn't show much excecpt Rain last MLG.
Hope he gets picked up by a Korean team now that he's there, has shown that he has the potential, and most importantly had the drive to go to Korea to train in the first place
Sad for Fnatic but Fenix says in the interview that he has more plans for Korea and that he is going to stay there so excited for this! Curious to see where he is going to go!
But no seriously, If Fenix has long term plans in Korea he needs to have a team. Liquid, EG and FXO are the only ones with a presence there and Jinro must be lonely at the oGs house.
Huge respect to foreigners going to Korea long-term! Naniwa, Huk, Jinro, Sase, cArn and Fenix fighting! ^_^ Maybe Happyzerg also? Dunno how long he'll stay T_T In a year or so players outside Asia (China, Taiwan yo) will probably have a hard time to compete.
Hmm, I wonder if FnaticMSI will go on a recruiting spree soon. Fenix has definitely improved a lot already in his short time in Korea and I believe he will keep on improving. I wonder what team he will be a part of in the near future..
On August 24 2011 01:45 tree.hugger wrote: He must be moving to another team. I can't imagine any reason Fnatic would willingly part with a player who was good to start with, and has been showing such improvement in just a few weeks in Korea.

As I said before, we parted ways because we couldn't come to an agreement on terms of his salary. As far as I know, his talks with other teams started once it became clear we couldn't come to an agreement.
Sad for Fnatic but probably good for Fenix. If he wants to stay in Korea he is better off with a team that has a presence there. I have little doubt that he'll find a place among one of the other big foreign teams given his recent GSTL display . Most likely FXO but EG or CoL seems also possible.
This is really sad for Fnatic, losing all of their stars, but I bet we'll see them with a full roster before long. Honestly, I predict Fenix will go to complexity and train alongside Drewbie in Korea.

Fenix is absolutely better than machine or axslav. Not to mention hes probably only going to get better with his stay in korea.
I believe he was referring to IdrA, HuK, and PuMa's level, not the rest of EG.
But with Fenix in Korea it wouldn't be at all surprising if he gets good enough to come back at do better at events. Maybe Fnatic just didn't want to resign him to allocate more money toward some new big profile players.
Fenix went to Korea for the MLG exchange program , right? Now that he is team less, is he still staying in Korea for a while?, hope we can see him more in GSL and GSTL, foreigners fighting...
I see this as a good thing for fenix, if he's serious about korea then he should use the opportunity to go for a team more actively supporting their players being in korea.

That's why I wrote huk, puma and idra. I mean they've got pretty good lineup and prac house partners, why would they add fenix? Im not talking about machine, axslav, inc because when team leagues start kicking I cant see them playing in them.

he definitely isn't "not good enough". he's improving fast in korea and he has been showing some results in gstl.
it's definately another team picking him up probably EG or they just don't want to support people in korea.
Fenix :< Fnatic ;<. Hopefully Fenix gets a good team and fnatic get some players. Sad to see such a big team have such a weak lineup. Basically Rain at this point?
Well.. EG could use another good Terran.. Fenix would be perfect considering that he's already in Korea and have said something about plans for Korea etc..
If Fenix joins EG in Korea, they might soon get to GSTL
EG will have Fenix, Puma and Huk permanent in Korea then I suppose (Idra will just stay for 1-2 month iirc). If they pick up Sase they'll have a great GSTL team ^_^

Indeed.
Fnatic needs to get some more players in after losing their two best players Sen and Fenix.
If EG was planning to sign Fenix, there would have been a super-inception-metannouncement. So since we're hearing about this without any prior hype, it is an impossibility.
I would imagine that Fenix wanted a better contract and FNATIC was unwilling to budge enough to make it worth Fenix's time. Fenix is a great player and fnatic has been good for him, but I think he's reached a stage where he needs to move up. I find it unfortunate that fnatic has lost some of their better players recently. Best of luck to you Fenix in korea! Hope to see u at mlg!
. I have projects in Korea and I will be here in for a longer time and achieve my intentions
All in all it's a good news, he is commiting to korea and I'm sure he will soon be one of the best foreigner, like he was in the beta. Good luck Fenix, i'll always support players like you who are ready to commit themselves 100% .

My thoughts exactly... Does EG have Terrans that aren't DeMuslim or PuMa?
If Fenix joined them, they would have 2 T, 1 Z and 1 P in Korea... Just another Zerg and a Protoss and they could have a neat small team.
Well you can say he fits well with any team trying to establish themselves in Korea... TL, EG, FXO, CoL. But either way, he's really good regardless of past results so he shouldn't have any trouble finding a good team.

I'm not sure why Fnatic would let him go...even slumping he's Fnatics best player after Rain. And without good practice partners I don't see Rain doing that well a few months down the road.
TT1 and Lucifron have been slumping even harder than Fenix. And while Kawaiirice does decent for still being in high school, he's never been particularly stellar.
Ohoh Dignitas, I can't imagine NaNiwa gets the money HuK or IdrA get from EG. I could imagine EG stealing NaNi too, if his contract runs out and Dignitas can't affort to pay him what he wants/deserves.

I'll bet he already has a team lined up. Nobody gives up their sponsor when they are halfway across the world. Also the negotiations didn't go through probably because fnatic could not match whatever the other team was proposing.

Not entirely true. Due to his results it wasn't worth investing in him as much as we did. We offered him something else and he didn't accept.

I can't believe they just let a player that recently beat TSL Heart and TSL Clide go that easily. Huge mistake by Fnatic, but will be an amazing pickup for a new team. I hope FXO gets in on this, Fenix would be a great addition into their team.

I feel that the problem of the fair value of a SC2 player is going to rise again in the future. SC2 is a very volatile game, with a fast changing metagame. In a matter of months, a player can be the best and then suffer of a really huge slump (like Jinro). Therefore, you have plenty of players with championship bells and no way to say who's better than who. HuK is paid 187000/year (at least, that's the rumor). What that this means for the other players? Naniwa, Thorzain or Sen are on the same level of HuK, or at least, have a shot at attaining that level. How much money should they win? By giving so much money to HuK, i think EG destabilize the market of SC2 pros, as they are a lot to legitimately think that they should get a huge pay rise. Problem is nobody is sure about who deserves the huge money. I wish it was possible, but i don't think that the pro-teams have the money to pay these these high 6 numbers salaries yet. MyM tried it, and failed.

Ya I understand what the first person said, but I wasn't responding to him. Also regardless of what you think people love the hype. A lot of people put a lot of time into the Huk to EG thing, and a ton of people were following it. Also "The Decision" had huge ratings, and even though the media condemned it afterwards, they were the ones who built it up and got him to do it in the first place.

I was wrong about the HuK swap, but I'm fairly certain he'll find a home somewhere else.
It's unfortunate to see FnaticMSI lose yet another great player with much potential. As far as predictions go, like one person early in the thread said something bout the EG hype Spanish Audio clip and EG claiming they have more to announce in the future, I see Fenix joining EG as a possibility. He could easily join the EG team house in Korea as he is already in Korea playing for F.United in GSTL. Aside from that, maybe he'll join col or FXO. Good luck to both FnaticMSI and Fenix in the future!
Didn't Fenix used to be in Root/Fnatic house with CatZ/Drewbie/TT1/Kiwikaki ? So his relationship with CatZ and Drewbie (coL) must be really good. I can see him going to coL and join Drewbie @ MVP house.
And otherwise EG -> Korean EG house. But because EG house is gonna happen from October and on, I don't see this happening as Fenix wants to stay in Korea and his current place (we made fox) is going to disband in a week. So I expect news within a week time of Fenix' new plans.

It sounded to me that he wants to stay in Korea. Something he was talking about last year at the IEM American Championships. And I'm guessing Fnatic didn't want to keep Fenix in Korea longer than the MLG-GSL exchange program term.
I'm speculating and trying to read between the lines, so with the *big if* I read this properly. It makes sense for Fenix to join a team with a Korean presence, so that would mean FXO, Col, (soon) EG or Liquid.
I doubt the last two are interested in him (Liquid seems done with picking up new players), but EG could be a long shot since a 3-man house is kind of small.
Of course it would be totally wild if he joined whatever team ends up taking over We Made Fox/F. United (if such an organization exists).
I'm pretty sure Fenix signed on with a team already.
NASL made it a huge point to make sure that everyone in NASL had a team to hold the players accountable, and Fenix was announced today as a NASL player.

Aren't your forgetting about Inc, Machine, axslav, strifecro and demuslim? Hes probably better than the first 4 and just as good if not better than Demuslim.
Fenix is probably going to be picked up by a team in Korea where he will spend most of his time and energy-- maybe dignitas or mouz will absorb the rest of FOX/Fenix.
Or maybe mouz/dignitas will join together and absorb FOX/Fenix. It would make a good TV show
lol wtf? fnatic real dumb. i get that this is probably an announcement which will be followed up with "fenix to team x who paid him more!" but the truth is, without sen, and with tt1 not performing up to his true potential, and with fenix training in korea, they really needed him on their team to stay as relevent as they have been in SC2. with sen gone they should have more money to pay a player, so i hope that they're going to make good use of that and pick up someone who is serious business.
edit: brainfart from 3 hours of sleep and 24 hours plus awake, derp they have rain. nonetheless, tt1, rain...? for a team that was coming out of the gates strong in SC2, they dropped gretorp because of his casting, sen because of personal reasons, and now fenix because of ??? and they pick up rain. overall i'd say they'll get slightly better results but they don't feel very strong as a team. jf has been extremely quiet, and kawaiirice and nightend are good players in general but they're not winning tournament players. idk i guess it's just disappointing to me because i always considered fnatic a scary team in SC2 and they're just not that big of a deal anymore, they've turned into the other teams that have a couple beastly players with some practice partners.
Fnatic's roster is looking rather bleak. The only top player they have is Rain. TT1 has always been "okay", but never good. His last accomplishment was being beaten by Destiny at the previous MLG. But to be honest I am glad fnatic is failing. A team that denies Sen to play in a league, does not deserve to keep their players.. they totally fail at management in my eyes. They should just get out of the sc2 business.
This is kinda good... i mean tt1 and fenix were getting kinda stale. Sen leaving fnatic was the huge hitter, but with fenix leaving and rain joining, it makes up for so much more. Now they need to kick out lefnaij, i mean i never seen the guy play he doesnt do shit lol

The way that article is worded is a little shallow. You do not need to comment on how his performance dropped off. When you make an article about how you part ways amicably you do not add in trash like "Ya he started to suck". Leave that stuff out, thanks.
Hopefully this little? Reshuffle will allow some fresh blood and mean the team can move forward. Not my favorite team but wish them well nonetheless. Fenix is a great player.
Wouldn't it be cool if a Korean team picked up Fenix. I doubt it will happen, but what if we suddenly saw like SlayerS_Fenix. That'd be really cool haha.
His plans are in korea so if he joins a team which resides outside korea then they would have to support him more then a korean team. Joining a korean team would be benefical for both sides (financially and training environment), but thats just my view.
also i always had the impression that startale is quite active at obtaining foreigners :p well good luck Fenix and also waiting for the news from fnatic
huk gets a countdown timer and a huge post in the featured news section and fenix gets a tiny post with a link????? I hope fenix gets picked up by a good time.
Sam "zr0" Mathews, the Founder and Managing Director of Fnatic, also issued a statement:
It was great to have Fenix in the squad, and he has been a great player for us. Unfortunately we need to be striving towards having the best players in the world to match our ambitions for our team. Fenix lately hasnt been able to prove he has what it takes. So its time to part ways to make room for some new talent to enter our team. We will be picking up some players in the near future so stay tuned..
So sounds like it might not have been Fenix's choice in the end :/
I found this announcement disrespectful. It would be fair to say he wasn`t a good cost/benefit player (which is hard to imagine) or something along this lines, but not that they are parting ways with him because he doesn`t help in the "strive towards the best". Fenix was Fnatics second best player (after Rain, considering Sen is gone) and the one with most potential of growth.
You don`t kick someone out of a team by saying he sucks just when he does well at the GSTL and has long term plans to improve in the game by living in Korea.

The part where they stop just short of calling him a bad player who isn't improving, delivering results, or living up to expectations is sort of disrespectful and/or flat-out incorrect.

Suggesting that Fenix doesn't have what it takes when he's got more SC2 accomplishments and probably more skill than anyone else on the team except Rain isn't disrespectful? Especially when another Fnatic manager has been posting in the thread saying the reason is a contract disagreement, not a lack of skill.

Exactly. Saying "we want the best and he doesn`t have what it takes", with their current lineup, is either hypocritical or implying that many more cuts are going to come. Just say it is a contract disagreement and move on, instead of bashing him like that. In that sense, I am glad that another managed posted afterwards in this thread clarifying what happened.
Hopefully Fnatic will get some much needed depth to their roster and Fenix find a happy new home.
I think the problem may have been that fenix wanted a said amount of money as a salary, and fnatic was not willing to pay fenix that amount (thus the lack of recent accomplishments comment), either way I am sure fenix will find another team soon, he is a great player.

Stay classy fnatic.
They will regret their actions after Fenix joins a korean team and does some massive all-killing or pull a Jinro.
I feel like this is fnatics loss. When you have a player as good as fenix who's willing to commit to stay in korea to practice you should hold on to him, I think it will pay off in the end.
People saying that he's not good enough to join liquid or eg are obviously forgetting those teams weaker players, all of who fenix is as good as or better. That combined with the fact that he's willing to practice in Korea should make him a good pickup for just about any team.
I don't see him joining Liquid though as they have a tendency to recruit the 'fan favourites', the kind of players that are praised by the community. While fenix is a nice guy and not someone anyone dislikes, he doesn't quite have the community support like sheth for instance has.
FXO seems already ruled out by FXOBoss, would have been a nice option otherwise.
So that leaves EG, coL and possibly dignitas. I don't know if dignitas has some deal set up with startale to let their players practice in their house as Naniwa is. If they do I wouldn't be suprised to see finix end up there. Would be nice to have two foreigners practising with startale.
EG is also very possible. Biggest problem is that they already have quite a large roster at this point, even though fenix is arguably better than any of the players eg left behind in the us.
coL is also possible, but I just don't feel him ending up there for some reason.
Would be awesome if he joined a korean team, but I think dignitas or eg are the most likely destinations for fenix. Either way I hope the best for him and that he really gets to benefit from his determination to go to korea! fenix hwaiting!
What I can understand from the business speak: - Fnatic has a limited amount of money. - Fenix was getting a salary plus a lot of benefits (like being housed in Korea) from Fnatic. This costs money. - Fnatic didn't feel that Fenix's results warranted his salary + benefits and during the contract negotiations proposed stepping down the salary and/or benefits. - Getting a pay cut is not something most people accept. Fenix is no exception. - Fnatic now uses the money they saved by not re-signing Fenix to recruit a Korean (probably) player(s) who has shown better results. Considering the struggles of many Korean teams financially, Fnatic can probably get significantly better ROI right now by recruiting a Korean than what they got with Fenix. - The "lesser" players on Fnatic are not costing (salary + benefits) what Fenix was asking for. If they are, expect more moves as their contracts expire.
As a side note, most teams are trying to recruit the best out there. Very few look at a player on the market and say, "well, he's better than our worst players. Let's get him." No matter the team, those "worst" players have almost all been on the team for a long time and are on contracts from when they were showing good results. When contracts are up, they will either be removed or asked to re-sign for less salary/benefits. Some/most are already on very poor contracts.
Best of luck to Fenix, it can be a very tough market if you aren't the "best" (of the moment).

And here is the post from Fenix about it.
Roald isn't part of FnaticMSI management or the SC2 teams manager, Elroy Pinto and Duran Parsi are the managers of the SC2 team - Elroy is also a General Manager at FnaticMSI.
Wow this is really insulting towards Fenix and totally unnecessary. They don't need to say that he wasn't worth investing in, wasn't a good player, etc. It's enough to say that they couldn't reach an agreement. This isn't how you treat your former players... I definitely lost respect for fnatic after reading these statements.
I don't get why fnatic is getting hate here. The truth of the matter is, we have no idea how much money they were paying fenix. He could very well been overpaid based on his results (wich are..?) Also, not to hate on fenix, but I consider myself to atleast have a moderate amount of knowledge about team and players and really, fenix pre-gstl is kind of a question mark for me.. dont really know the guy that well. And I think that's how it is for alot of people, he just doesnt have that star power to represent an organization. Although, being one of few successful south american players, there might be potential. I don't know, I think fnatic is doing a great deal if they made some salary space to sign a good korean instead. Think this is the best for both parties.
Edit: Getting paid less always seem disrespectful for the person it happens to, but it's just bussiness. I like the honesty from Roychez.
Hey Fenix, loved ur games @ GSTL, keep training hard, ur quite good already, GL in Korea, keep doing ur thing, u'll get picked by another good team eventually. You got it bro, chillax. GL Fenix Hwating!!!

I think the reason people are upset has more to do with how Fnatic's PR team handled this news.
I think that everyone saying just Liquid/EG/FXO are missing some things.
Complexity are packing Drewbie off to Korea after their deal with MvP.
Liquid seems to like big community figures, and I can't see Fenix filling that overly outward position, but I could be completely wrong on that point. I just haven't seen that much personality buzz around him.
Dignitas maybe since he is right now with Naniwa, but I remember reading somewhere that their SC2 roster was full OWTTE.

I don't understand fnatic's statement,, specifically the "doesn't help us to strive towards being the best".
Especially when Fenix is in Korea and improving a lot, and is probably the second best player in the team. With players like TT1 (no offence) then that statement is just wrong
Other than that GL to Fenix and GL to Fnatic - interested to see who they will pick up

Did they really say that? if so, that's just plain wrong and rude... I don't recall a single team doing that to any player they didn't renew their contract. I hope fnaticMSI change their managers, they both suck at PR and the team's image is the one that suffers the most.

You are living in a dream world. No Korean team would EVER take Fenix! In fact, there are only a select few Foreign teams who would think about getting another medicore SC2 player with limited upside.

He's only 18, not 23 like naniwa or 22 like thorzain. 4 years are what you spend in a normal college degree.. he has a tremendous upside imho.

As someone who has spent a decent amount of time with Fenix having met him personally after spending most of my weekend with him at IEM North America last year, I have to say that the departure shows his ambition towards his personal goals of being the best out there. He wanted to go to Korea long-term even back then once he had a good enough opportunity, and I know that he will find a good team that will support said goals now that he is over there.
I would say to expect something interesting coming out of one of the teams with a Korean presence in the not so distant future... He won't stay "teamless" for very long if knowing him as long as I have is any indication!
This is stupid. Players are not handling professional relationships very well. Fnatic has been Jian's sponsor since basically the beginning, where is the loyalty? Obviously Jian didn't get a better offer and part ways, he basically couldn't get what he was flat out asking for, and Fnatic dropped him. Considering that they were paying such things as 'living expenses', Jian must have asked for a salary on top of it, and Fnatic couldn't afford it. The chances of Fenix actually winning anything in Korea is pretty much 0%, and with the Koreans attending all of the foreign events, the chances of Fenix winning something even in his home country of Peru are hovering around 1%

Why? Because he wasn't willing to accept the paycut they were offering him he has no loyalty?
Thats just bs. A player who dedicates himself full time to being a pro sc2 imho has a right to a decent salary and as long as we don't know what the actual number was it's just stupid to judge.

The growth and maturation of eSports. It has yet to be determined where this is all heading in the future, but moves like this one are only helpful to its further advancement.

Good luck Jean
If he can go out and get what he wants, he should. Loyalty is nice, but in the end, it shouldn't impact your decision too much. If a better offer is out there, you take it. In this game you don't have a lot of time to make money. You need to maximize it when you can.

as bad as this may sound, i think teams are beginning to focus more on a players "starpower" in addition to their skill. huk has large market value for a reason.

Contracts are signed for a reason. This is true with any sport where any form of salary is involved. If a sponsor really wants a firm grip on their player they'll make the contract juicy.
Fenix better join a baller clan, he really has the skills and talents of a EG or Liquid player. On side a note, I hope FNaticMSI gets some new recruits or kicks it up a notch because they seem to be dying =(, losing a lot of their top players and all.

Seems likely, this is probably just like the way TZain is spending the rest of his time in KR (till early sept) at the SlayerS house. I'm presuming with WMF disbanding today they are spending the rest of their visit in other places.

I don't think Fenix is gonna stay for one month more only though... regardles, he should improve greatly as a player after this experiencie.. go Fenix!

I think it's equally likely he got picked up by IM. IM's coach did mention in Artosis's interview that he was interested in foreign players.

Foreigners >> Korean teams = good times.
FU is guaranteed not to get to playoffs, and I believe the 2 teams are in the different divisions, so they won't play each other.
Cant believe no one Saw IM fenix coming hahaha, they said they wanted to recruit a player with undiscovered talent and willing to work hard, hes fits the build perfectly. Good Luck Fenix and IM, i will be rooting for you guys.

Different situation though, Huk was foreign team -> foreign team for money, Fenix is foreign team -> Korean team for improvement & challenge.

Stay classy fnatic.
They will regret their actions after Fenix joins a korean team and does some massive all-killing or pull a Jinro.

That sucks, I wanted to see a Fenix vs Fenix match!

Did you even read the article? They wanted to keep him, but they couldn't come to a mutual agreement on the terms of his contract. He's going to search for a team that can support him the way he needs.
Not entirely true. Due to his results it wasn't worth investing in him as much as we did. We offered him something else and he didn't accept.
A player who is 18 years old and who has just beaten 5 top korean players in very important games in the GSTL -- playing like a boss too, not all-ins or build order wins -- is not worth investing??? that made me lol... I have the feeling it was popularity and not real talent what you were kinda looking for in a player.
