Today The Syndicate is pleased to announce that our partnership with Team MvP has resulted in the opportunity for Andrew "drewbie" Moysey to travel to Korea to train for nearly six weeks leading up to MLG Orlando. Drewbie will be leaving for Seoul on September 1st and returning October 12th. He will be living and training with some of the best Korean players in the world and we have high hopes that this intensive training period will take his game to the next level.
Without sounding like an asshole, I think he really needs the training! 6 weeks is a pretty solid amount of time, and with his mechanics being one of the better parts of his play, I'm sure he will learn PLENTY.
To be quite frank, I'm not a fan of his attitude. However, despite that negative, I hope he does do well over there as I'm all for foreigners doing well.
Never been really impressed with Drewbie until last MLG, where it imo showed that Drewbie is doing a lot better(yeah yeah, I know the results, but his play was a lot more solid), so I'm quite excited to see how things go for him.
I remember Drewbie had a solid TvT against one of the Koreans in MLG Anaheim but could not close the series off, here's to hoping he find what he seeks in Korea!
drewbie should be able to go, but i don't fault him for not going (if he isn't). getting a chance to play korea doesn't happen too often. there will always be mlg's.
MVP team house is going to be a drastic change from what he's used to. In the atosis vid, the beds were side by side with no space b/w so you can roll over to the next bed in the middle of the night. Could wake up one morning spooning with DRG.
Good luck, dood. Anyone who has it in them to give up everything, go to korea, and practice 10-12 hours a day, can, and will be one of the best players. GL HF GG BRO
Congrats on making a bold leap in your pro gaming career. Good luck in Korea and I hope you take full advantage of the opportunity that is given to you.
Good luck man, as a tall lad myself I'd be kinda pissed about having to live in such small and clustered conditions. But you'll probably come back a fucking beast. Good move by coL.
Wow, great opportunity for Drewbie! he hasn't been getting great results lately but he did have a good showing for IPL 2 and he's been doing pretty well on the Korean server from what i've seen on his stream. Here's hoping you have a good trip and come back ready to tear some nerds' throats out Drewbie!
Good Luck - i really hope he learns a lot and performs well when he comes back- prove the haters wrong! and let us see the power of korean training! =]
Really glad col didn't do a bunch of dumb hype shit beforehand. Gogo Drewbie! The drewbie vs idra game a little after launch really got me into watching competitive sc2.
not bad, not bad at all. Even though i never like drewbie personally, him going to Korea sounds like an awesome decision from himself as well as from coL. Wish him all the best luck.

Hey, maybe some of DRG's gosuness will rub off on him.
EDIT: LOL. I know Nestea said he doesn't take it seriously, but I just wanted to point out that it's possible to beat him on ladder and that's precisely ebcause he doesn't take it seriously. Besides, it's nonsensical to think that the arguably best player in the world is playing serious if that's his stats.
On August 17 2011 09:46 TheRealNanMan wrote: This is awesome! Do work drewbie! You better have some replay packs for us ^^

HAHAHA Drewbie crush Nestea... Nestea is zerg GOD.
The thing about Nestea, and he has even said this himself, is that his only advantage to other players is his preparation and that he's so smart he can play mind games. He's not as fast as younger players and for this reason he don't do super well on ladder.
Completely meaningless move, to be honest. Even if Drewbie were to double his skills, he'd barely compete with the Europeans; and in this global world of E-sports, that simply won't cut it.
Nestea has said time and time again that he doesn't take ladder seriously, and just fools around on it. Beating Nestea on ladder and beating him in a tournament are two different things.
While this announcement is pretty awesome, I think some people are overestimating the "go to Korea and come back a pro" effect. You're not going to go to Korea for a short period of time and somehow become top of the world. If I recall correctly, HuK took months and months before he started having good showings. He was able to practice with the oGs guys a lot because he spent time forming a relationship with them. This trust and kinship makes the practicing a lot more natural than simply moving into a house full of random unknowns that speak a different language for a few weeks.
I don't know, I don't feel as if a short term stint in Korea will be able to improve your skill by THAT much. A decent amount maybe, but I doubt we'll be seeing Drewbie on the top anytime soon. Same goes for IdrA, although he's already kind of at the top of the foreign scene.
He won't become a bonjwa (or even banjo?) in 6 weeks, but I'm sure it'll be good training that might give him an edge in foreigner events. He's already training on the Korean server quite often when he streams.
i guess this is the first time we see a player going to Korea with the only goal to train and not participate to GSL in any ways. GL Drewbie ! Smart move

Dont be a retard. Actually watch Nestea games before you decide to commentate on what hes capable of. He's clearly on par with the best of the best when it comes to mechanics. Combine that with his superior strategy, game sense, and preparation you have zerg godliness. When Nestea talks about how hes not as fast as other players hes just saying that to be humble since thats just how most koreans are.
Honestly, at first I didnt think Drewbie was that good but recently his play has been impressive! I'm very excited to see how he plays after these 6 weeks!
He said he doesn't take it serious. Remeber SC after the that bo5? "the nestea on the ladder and the tournament were like 2 completely different people."
Good luck to Drewbie -- but seriously, if you look at the laundry list of great players who can't qualify every season (puma? DRG? TheStc? etc.) I just don't see it happening.

Either way, good luck and train hard Drewbie!
For one thing it teaches you things like discipline and sticking to a structured practice schedule. If you manage to carry something like that home with you, you've made massive gains already.
Drewbie is one of those players who was good at first, but who I expected to sort of slowly drop off the radar.
But he's been surprising me lately, he's definitely still competetive. And ya know, it's tough when you're mostly relying on the US server and online practice partners.
It'll be interesting to see what he can do with his time in Korea. Perhaps later he'll want to make a longer committment.
I'll be interested to see what drewbie's results will be in Orlando and if his training will allow him to get up farther within MLG. Should be interesting to see.

Hard to say.
Naniwa will probably take one again since he got eliminated. With Idra going to Korea, I imagine he'd take one for October. Which leaves one left.... will it fall all the way to Drewbie? I'm not sure.
I like the double standard that iNcontrol displayed when talking about 'the community' today on ITG. In his view, the negativity towards the HuK acquisition is dumb and people need to 'stfu'. However, when the news of Drewbie to Korea breaks the ITG crew (iNc included) finds this an appropriate time to snicker and laugh at the notion. Maybe he needs to consider his own advice.
GLHF Drewbie. Use this type of garbage to fuel your quest to be the best player you can be.
I think Drewbie is a fairly underrated player, his MLG performance technically hasn't been the best but the games he's played all displayed a ton of skill against the koreans.
Anyway kids got some sick skill, this is what he needs to break through the point he's at now.
How come whenever I think of Drewbie lately I keep reverting back to the last MLG where he was facing off with WhiteRa and before he came JP McDaniels was on stage with the mic and said to the paraphase of "Now before we bring out the FAN FAVORITE!!, let's bring out Drewbie..." lol.
But seriously, good to see Drewbie go overseas to train.. but is it just me or are more people gearing up for Orlando rather than Raleigh? All these training regiments are for Orlando results not Raleigh with the exception of the EG training house in Arizona. Honestly though if you want the best results you cannot train on the NA server, look at MLG results to know that, more teams should be doing this.
I have this feeling that when he comes back he wont throw down the CC at the natural as much, since i feel like alot of koreans will be able to take advantage of this.

Grats to Drewbie, curious to see if his little trip to Korea pays off. Enjoy watching him stream and noticed he had also been playing on the Korean servers so /clap
Well, i dont see him getting into Code A immediately but obviously he will improve and hopefully be able to qualify in under 3 months. With MVP's sick team he will vastly improve there is no doubt in my mind about that.
Always glad to see more foreigners going over to Korea.
Hf and gl there, and I hope you improve a lot. I am looking forward to your tournament results after coming back ;D
Great move by CoL, especially because their partnership doesn't seem to be just a "we pay you money, you wear our tag", but it actually benefits the CoL team.
Never really been a big fan of drewbie, ive heard he can kinda be bm but I gotta admit, he's a great multitasker and i think korea will be able to help him unlock his true potential as a player.
Yay! Good luck drewbie! He might not be the best player now but for some reason, I've always liked him and it's a great opportunity for him to further grow and improve by leaps and bounds.
This is great for esports but I don't believe Drewbie will get to code A. If he proves me wrong though I'll be ecstatic. It will be interesting to watch him improve in Korea as well.
I really have to give a mini rant here because I think its deserved: Foreigners need to wake up and realize the importance of Korea. A lot of players seem to half recognize it, look at the FXO team, but they dont go far enough. I mean they go for a month to up their game? Korea is not a pilgrimage, its not a place to go and renew your esports capabilities [as they decline relative to the best throughout the year] thats ridiculous and wasteful. Either your in Korea as a progamer and you get its benefits, or your behind. Period. Eventually all progamers who dont live year round in Korea will be "progamers" or they will be forced into retirement. I dont understand why Drewbie is going for merely six weeks, he'll see only minor benefit from it and he [amongst his peers] will still be mandhandled and lose out on thousands of dollars while Koreans farm foreign tournys.

Lol we know he is one of the most hypocritical people on TL forums. He has been that way for a long time and never plays up to what he talks about for the most part.
On another point thought I feel like Drewbie is not code S material at all and will be hard pressed to do well in Code A.
Good luck Drewbie! I hope you get lucky with the Open Bracket at Raleigh so you can get your seed back, it'd be sad if you ran into Hero or Noblesse early on .

Lol, sarcasm or not, some of you people seriously underrate Drewbie. He's already playing on the Korean server and is well into masters, matching and beating some Grandmaster Korean players, and actually is above 50% on the ladder unlike a lot of other foreign players who play on it.
GL Drewbie! Hope you improve lots!
Is he going to try for Code A? I know he's only going over there to train, but it'd be fun to see him have a go in Code A as well
I'm not sure if Drewbie can compete with the koreans, though he did give MMA (I think?) a good run at the last MLG. Best of luck in Korea, your one of my favorite foreign terrans!

To Drewbie's credit, I wasn't a big fan of HuK's play before Korea...but now he is amazing. I'm in a similar situation to Drewbie, but Korea is a magical place~ Food is great too, so best of luck Drewbie!
Good luck Drewbie. I wonder how well it will work out in terms of communications, and actually getting specific players to practice with him. I guess he will be their guinea pig.
Excellent news! The more players that go over there, the more improvement we'll in the scene as a whole. Not onyl will he be learning their practice tricks etc. but he'll also be bringing them back and spreading them to other players. I know Naniwa is currently learning a lot out there and hopefully this will spread to more European players when he returns.
The amount of foreign players training in Korea right now is getting very exciting.
So drewbie gets to go to korea? Destiny will probably be kicking himself right now he was saying on his stream he really wants to go to korea to train and now his former teammates get to go to korea. Still hope for the best for drewbie he has lots of potential.
Why are people talking as if he is going to participate in the GSL? It clearly states that he is going there to train for the MLG. Unless you mean that he would gain a top position in MLG and then qualify for GSL?
So many people are criticising him saying he sucks and will be low diamond etc with no chance of making the GSL, bad player in the foreign scene, got owned in Endrey tournament etc ( He's on a 4 set winning streak vs Europeans since that tournament though ) when it clearly states that he's going over there to TRAIN in the MVP House to become a better player! Six weeks probably isn't enough unfortunately, but it's a start
I would like to see him try out for Code A though!
On August 17 2011 19:31 AxionSteel wrote: when it clearly states that he's going over there to TRAIN in the MVP House to become a better player!!
That's the thing so many people don't get, a lot of players are going to Korea just to play and immerse themselves in a SC scene with a far better understanding of the game than our own.
Pretty much everyone who's gone there will tell you that they came back as a significantly better player. Hopefully the same is true for Drewbie.

Well, regardless how good or bad he is, everybody should be happy for him that he has gotten the opportunity to train in the best place of the world for starcraft and is accepting it gratefully.

Drew has the skills to be a champion, MLG columbus for example every loss was 2-1 a bit of luck here and there and his record would be quite impressive.
I'm sure some time in Korea will help him reach that next level!
It's always great to see people wanting to get better and take their game to the next level. It's great for Drewbie really to take up the initiative rather than sit back and do "the lazy man's option". GL Drewbie, hope you show some sick games.

He's saying that if you're at like high school level basketball, will your performance improve if you're suddenly thrown into the NBA? Or is that how it should be approached, at the very least? No, clearly not, you'll gain very little by being thrown into the NBA if you're at high school level, you'll get completely trounced and not even notice any improvement even if you're improving.

He's stating that SC2 is analogous to basketball on the amateur and pro levels. The NBA would be the SC2 scene in Korea and NA is apparently the playground. He is asking if simply putting a non-professional player in a professional environment will make him better.
The flaw in his analogy is that Drewbie has been playing on the KR server and keeping pace with those players. The difference in skill is not the same as that between an NBA basketball player and a child.
A more apt analogy might be asking "Do kids get better at Go (or Chess) by playing professional Go players?"

Unlike cArn, sadly for him, Drewbie has an active team backing him up. Plus, he practises with a team, that was way better than cArn's practise on the Korean ladder. He has team mates and coaches telling him what he does right, what he can improve etc. I think this is a unique opportunity for him and I am glad that he took it, considering how many "professionals" would decline because of the living conditions.

This is such a silly comment. Drewbie plays on the Korean ladder, he has over a 50% winrate, is high masters, and is going over to improve. Sure he may not be as skilled as DRG or Genius but there are others in MVP who could be at a level of sc2 similar to his which he can grow and learn. For any foreigner trying to get to that next level of play, the only place to rapidly improve their game is Korea. Please start supporting our foreigners who want to improve and stop being a piece of shit.

The thing is tho, he isn't going there for being the next GSL champion. He is there for practice and by playing better players and being able to interact with each other you will be better. And you can't use basketball and compare it to Starcraft because in basketball it's not only skill that matters, you have to be physically fit for it too. So it doesn't matter if this highschool kid with the sickest skill would be thrown into a NBA game, he would stand no chance physically. ,_,
But if he had the chance to train with the Lakers he would obviously improve alot more than he would with the local amateur team.
I don't have high hopes for him because I don't think he'll ever be good enough to place very highly in international tournaments. But having said that I hope he proves me wrong and I wish him the best of luck. He will certainly improve in Korea.

Do kids get better at basketball by trying to play in the NBA?
Haha what?
What don't you understand?
"Do kids get better at basketball by trying to play in the NBA?" What do you mean with that?_?
He's stating that SC2 is analogous to basketball on the amateur and pro levels. The NBA would be the SC2 scene in Korea and NA is apparently the playground. He is asking if simply putting a non-professional player in a professional environment will make him better.
The flaw in his analogy is that Drewbie has been playing on the KR server and keeping pace with those players. The difference in skill is not the same as that between an NBA basketball player and a child.

Unlike cArn, sadly for him, Drewbie has an active team backing him up.
Since some months, cArn is part of eSahara – a professional team from France.

A far better analogy would be what makes you get better faster, being trained by a high school coach, or by an NBA coach? These players are going over there for the best coaching and training programmes and, as such, can only benefit. qxc's play has massively improved thanks to his stay in Korea and, going off his twitter account, Naniwa feels much the same way.
lol @ the carn talk. i dont mean to be hatin or anything but the guy has been failing time and time again. you would think that much time in korea would actually help improve.. sadly with no actual practice partners and a dying sense of motivation, things will be much harder.
Drewbie has the stuff to become rly rly rly good. Lookin forward to an awesome MLG for drewbie.

GL Drewbie. Was waiting to see who of the coL players would be the first to actually take advantage of this. Hope this does tons for your game, definitely stand to gain a lot from it.
Good luck Drewbie! Anything that helps an American player get better and bring pride to the NA SC2 scene is welcomed. The Koreans are clearly the best, and if we want to catch up, we need to send more people over there to see what it takes to reach the highest level of play.

It was the american and canadian qualifiers, kiwikaki, TT1, and dde (I might be wrong about dde) are all canadian. Sheth claimed he is half canadian (his reason for keeping the a/c on). Honestly it doesnt really matter, southern canada is very similar to northern america (i.e toronto is similar to new york).

Don't most other non-US countries get offended when the term "American" is used to describe only US citizens, and not other countries in NA and SA which literally are also "American"?

New York Kicks Ass.
Don't listen to this guy, Toronto and NYC have a lot in common. For starters, they are both the most populous cities in their respective nations, both serve as financial hubs, with an amazing selection of places to eat... both cities are multi cultural.... heck Toronto used to be called "york" some more similarities:
new york has central park, toronto has high park... i can find a lot more simlarities than differences between the two ports...
staten island ferry = toronto island ferry our entertainment sector compares to new york.... seriously i dunno what this guys going on about when he says "they are NOTHING alike" wake up bud... i was born in toronto, spent the better part of my life here, and yes, i've been to new york numerous times.
the few differences that i seen: NYC's transit system is better than Toronto's, mainly because it runs 24 hours a day. From my experience, people tend to be a little friendlier in New York. And of course, rent is a lot more expensive in New York, especially in upper Manhattan. Oh, and New York has way more museums. It's crazy there, they have a museum for everything lol..
The way I see it, Toronto is like New York, just a little behind in every category, but not that far. Just like in New York, if you have the money, you can get anything you want in Toronto, from the finest of hookers to the most potent of herbs.
I have a good friend in Brooklyn, and he's seeing a girl here in Toronto.. He tells me that he likes Toronto more, so I guess it's like they say, the grass is always greener on the other side.
Nah man, I don't care about the similarities in their wikipedia entries. The two cities have a totally different feel. When I got back home, landed downtown at the Porter Terminal. It was like farmland.
