It is with a heavy heart today I bring you some sad news. As of tomorrow, iCCup TV as a company will be dissolved. I want to first say while the actual execution was a bit ahead of schedule, this has been something I have been considering for quite a long time.
First off I am sure many of you will ask, "Why?" That is of course the always the big, and most complicated question so I will provide two of the key factors, in no particular order. While I only bring up these issues, there were quite a few small things as well, but these 2 major points alone justified the move.
Lack of support from iCCup, and the stagnation of the iCCup community + Show Spoiler + For roughly 14 months iCCup TV has been running 100% independent of iCCup.com and any of their staff. We have received no financial support (or any type of support) in that time. This was while being expected to give a nice size of company ownership and profits to iCCup.com, which made sense at a point, but in the current E-Sports market no longer is acceptable.
Also and also more importantly the iCCup.com community has stagnated horribly becoming a land for games of the past. Most of anyone that was interested in SCII from iCCup.com moved onto one of the many new communities. Also most of the new traffic came in the form of DoTA1 users and almost no growth in SC2 or E-Sports. With the recent slew of good news for the MOBA community (DoTA2 with $1 mil, $5 mil for LoL, HoN making moves) there is no way the site will not have a similar issue when DoTA2 comes out where most of the traffic is actually just people hyped about the up and coming game, and using iCCup as a "warm up" for the next game.
These two combined factors made it so using iCCup.com as our partner for E-Sports did not make sense anymore.
Lack of support from Blizzard + Show Spoiler + I will come out and say it, the iCCup servers ARE illegal. If they are good for the community or not is another discussion (I believe they are good), but they are considered by Blizzard to be "pirate servers".
I had hoped with the continued growth of iCCup TV we could either come to a solution with Blizzard. However we could not.
This past week we were covering the Battle.Net Chinese Invitational and on Day 3 were informed that we could no longer cover the event. We were very saddened, as covering a Blizzcon Invitational was a huge leap for us as a company, and we really love providing coverage of the Chinese scene.
So I immediately (3am my time) started reaching out the Blizzard branches all over the world: China, Korea, North America, and Europe to try and find a solution to the problem. We came to an agreement that leaving iCCup and the iCCup TV name behind would allow us to return to covering the event.
I agreed.
We have never received any support from Blizzard (have never asked for any either), but it is becoming obvious the advantages of having Blizzard support are quite large these days for events and companies like iCCup TV and the iCCup Map Team. We realized if we want to continue to make huge things happen, I needed to open the shut door that was between me and Blizzard. I have done so.
Now for the next question I know you will have, "What next?" Well that is the good news. Not much is going to change right away with our events or coverage, maps, or anything.
The only change you will notice at first (and possibly ever) is a different company name/stream link. The new company is called ESVision (E-Sports Vision) and we have a new stream set up at http://twitch.tv/esvision or you can also get to our stream by going to http://www.esvisiontv.com.
All our current events (like the Korean Weekly) will be moved to this channel and company. All maps will remain under the "iCCup" tag for several weeks (reason below), until they are moved to either the ESV tag or something else.
This will be a very very very painless transition as we have been running independently for so long. So you will not see a decrease in production, totally new and clueless casters, or the disbanding of the map team. It will be business as normal in every sense, and almost all our current staff will be joining us with the new venture.
So do not fear, this is at this point truly just a name change. Everything you have come to expect and love with iCCup TV and the iCCup Map Team will continue.
And now for the last major question I am sure people will have is "ESVision??" At this moment ESVision is a temporary company set up for only a couple weeks.
During these couple weeks I will be reviewing offers from companies looking to bring on me and my staff, as well as accepting any new offers from major companies. After these several weeks we will either choose a new partner to go with, or end up making the ESVision the new permanent home. This is why our maps will still remain under the tag "iCCup" for now. Once we find the permanent home we will rename the maps to either the ESV tag or the new companies tag. I am hoping we can find a major partner to work with that will provide us with the proper financial support we deserve to make our events where we want them to be!
One final thing is all iCCup TV assets minus the www.iccup.tv domain will be transferred to the new company to prevent tampering or account deletion. We know a GREAT deal of SCII history is stored in our VOD's and we do not want that part of history to be deleted.
So while I am sad, I am also very excited about the new opportunities that await us ahead! Word has already gotten out that this was happening and several very large companies have already expressed a huge interest! Either way it turns out (ESVision or something else) this will be something that will allow us to grow past where we could under the iCCup banner. Of course any time you leave something behind you have poured your blood, sweat, and tears is a sad thing, but this is good for us in the long run! We are here to stay in E-Sports, and many new doors have already opened just in the 48 hours behind the scenes since we made this official.
So I am sure you will all have many questions, and rest assured I will be here to answer them all. You are also always free to contact me via Twitter or any other contact method you have for me (I will have a new public email soon).

Woah this is huge. You guys never got enough love for how much you contribute to the community. Can't wait for what comes next from you guys.
|
>.< Sorry that you worked so hard to bring up the brand "Iccuptv" to end like this, but congratulations on the new venture Pat. I'll always be around for whatever I can contribute.
|
Good luck in whatever you and your guys end up doing, Patrick.
|
Wish you guys the best of luck in the future! I know that there were a lot of hard-working people at iCCup, regardless of some of the bad apples.
|
This certainly marks the end of an era. I'm encouraged to hear that the same talented folks will continue to lend the scene their talents!

I had a fucking heart attack thinking for a minute that the KR weekly's might becoming to an end lol
sad that you are parting ways from iCCup as an entity, but extremely happy that you are going to be continuing to operate under a new identity. You'll always have my suppor, best of luck!
|
Can't blame you for setting apart from the ICCup server. Today, the only thing they bring to the table is drama and a bad reputation.
I've liked the work you have done for the lest known branches of the SC2 community, with the small -yet very good- korean tournaments and the chinese stream. I hope you the best with ESVision.
|
phew, I was scared that there wouldn't be any more korean weeklies. Good luck with everything!
|
Wish you guys would have gotten more recognition for the great addition to the community! Best of luck!
|
It's so sad really, I almost always watch you guys host the korean weekly cups. The best players in Korea often plays and you don't nearly get enough viewers that you should gotten.
|
Thanks for the support everyone!
Korean Weekly will be on iCCup TV tonight, the last ever broadcast!
|
This is absolutely huge news. I can't believe that this happened and it's a truly sad day for the community. Hopefully some organization can help pick up the slack.
In the meantime, I look forward to updates regarding the future of ESVision or whatever they become.
(Try talking to EG, I hear they're hiring)
|
ESVision fighting! ^_^ I wish MLG or some other big ESPORTS company would sponsor you because the Korean weekly and the coverage of Chinese events are so nice! If it had a bigger name behind maybe it would get more recognition.
|
DUDE change the title please. Thought you guys were gone and moving away from sc2 not just changing companies. Didn't realise how independent you guys were. Just keep doing what you doing.

Big <3 to the ICCUP guys. They've been bringing in quality content since beta and I don't see them stopping any time soon. Really hope some bigger group sees the potential in bringing you guys in.
Best of luck to the ICCUP, or "ESV" guys.

honestly, it doesn't seem that bad of a change and it makes sense to detach from iCCup

iCCup TV NA is dissolved totally. However I am right away starting a new company using the same sponsors and events I built up over our time.
While it's a totally new company, little will end up changing because we were independent for so long.
|
Diamond, you and the former iccup.tv staffs will become great assets wherever you go. This will be a positive step for all the hard work you guys have put in.
I hope you guys gets the proper support this time around. Don't sell yourselves short!
|
Good luck with future projects! I appreciate what you do.
|
Phew, I thought you guys were going to shutdown the Korean Weeklies. I'm glad to hear that you guys will continue to provide good content.
|
I really enjoy the Korean weekly show. keep it up
|
Good luck with your new venture.
You guys have always provided so many contents with unyielding passion. It's such a pity that you don't get the attention that you deserve. More people really need to watch KR weekly and many other tournaments.
Love raelcun's and orb's casting btw. Hope you guys have more success with the new name and new offers.
|
Sad that you guys are leaving the iCCup name behind, but big props and best of luck in your continuation!
|
Good Luck!
Is Raeclun going to join you guys, I know I mention him alot but I still miss his casting.
|
I hope you get more attention after this, iCCup tv never got all the attention deserved.
|
As a former Brood War admin I can personally say that I think this was best for both ICCup.com and ICCup.tv. Both had different motives and goals and sc2 was struggling to find a place where BW and dota reign supreme.
GL Diamond. Hopeing for big things from you guys soon

Hopefully this is good news for the people in the organization. I'll support anything that allows you to continue to promote your broadcasts and maps.

good luck! love the weeklies~ (btw should i change the calendar name?)
|
This also increases the chance of getting your maps into the map pool so yay for that. Best of luck guys and thanks for all you do.
|
It's a shame what's happened to iCCup, but this change makes sense. I have enjoyed a lot of iCCup TV events over the past year... best of luck in the future, whatever tag you end up using.

No, to prevent confusion we will keep it the iCCup/Nationvoice Korean Weekly for this week. New name will come starting next week.
|
Sorry that you guys wont be iCCup anymore, but change is always good, i'm sure the future holds bright things for ESVision, GL Diamond <3

best of luck on the new gig. :D

Good stuff! iCCup.com is just trash nowadays. Good Luck with the new company ^_-
|
So many sad news and good news recently I love Korean weekly iccup and other Chinese tourney. So sad for you guys.
|
Sounds like you made a good decision. Only so much you can do when all iccup was doing for you was providing a name, that as it turns out was causing more problems than it was preventing

Can't say i'm surprised, ICCUP minus maps has had little to no support via their website for SC2. It was so huge in broodwar I immediately went their first for SC2. Found it near impossible to operate under SC2 within ICCUP and the support seemed lacking.
I think for the ICCUP.tv folks this was a smart decision...ICCUP is a relic of the past now and if you want to stay relevant you have to move forward with the times.

Honestly, I can't think of a single reason this is bad for you guys. The whole idea of having iccup in your name was great when Iccup was a brand name in the Starcraft 2 world, which it still is to a small degree. But you go to the BW forums and people are basically saying "Meh" to that server anyway, so it just makes a lot of sense for you guys.
I mean, in the end, from a viewer's perspective the relationship to iccup was tenuous at best anyway, like you said.
|
Looks like you've had some tough times. Love your work though and keep the content coming.
|
This is pretty sad news for me, while I was awaiting my physical copy to arrive last year I would spend countless hours watching ICCupTV with Raelcun casting until stupid hours of morning. I wish you well on your new ventures and hope you succeed.
|
Will continue to tune in with your new name. You guys do a ton for the community and it's recognized regardless of the name you go by. Goodluck!
|
good luck for your future projects, what iCCup TV did for the community will never be forgotten.
|
Actually, I have a question - will the SteelSeries sponsorship of your mapmaking team carry over?
|
Uh, to be honest, I'd steered clear of ICCup.tv because I thought it was closely affiliated with ICCup and its diminishing reputation. I had no idea it actually functioned differently and brought unrelated content. For that reason alone it's probably a belated and good idea ~_~;;

Welp, at first I was scared but it seems like in the end its just a rebranding that will be good for you guys.
|
This can be nothing but a good thing. Most of the SC2 community doesn't care about iCCup at this point. Many of the great players who play SC2 may have played BW and know iCCup well, but a lot of the fans and casual players are brand new and it doesn't mean anything to them.
Partnered with the trouble that iCCup maps and the iCCup name brings from Blizzard's viewpoint, it doesn't make any sense to keep using it.
I thought you guys were actually affiliated with iCCup.com and worked for iCCup.com, and I'm sure many others thought the same. Otherwise I think you would have probably heard the suggestion to do this from a lot of people a long time ago.
Good luck to you in the future. I love the Weeklies and I love your map-making team.

Yes but probably not until I make up my mind if ESVision is going to be the permanent home for us or not.
|
|
I never knew that iCCup had such a stigma attached to it.... :/
Good luck with the new brand, and thanks for all of the content that you put into the community, we really appreciate it!

I hope that we will be able to have all the replays easily released now? Because iccup.com was kinda anti-sc2 ^^

I was always wondering what sort of association you guys had with the site. Guess that clears the situation up. Good luck, keep making awesome maps for the community!

Very exciting. I loved the Korean weekly-tourneys. Wish you all the best of luck with finding a huge sponsor. Keep up the good work!

Any chance that we may see Chinese weeklies as I am a big fan of the Chinese server and their playstyle? oh and I of course support your project regardless of name or company behind you :D

That's a problem with Koreans, iCCup.com management did not even really know anything about the Korean Weekly.
Also I am a bit confused, why is this not community news? I really want people to see this so they know we aren't dead and that ESVision is the old iCCup TV staff.

Community News only lists DRAMA now. Haven't you noticed?
You need to get the iccup.com staff to come out and slander you before it get listed.

I think this point really needs to be echoed. From a personal standpoint I know I wouldn't be nearly as informed or a fan of the Korean/Chinese scenes if it wasn't for you guys putting in all the hard work you do to present iCCup TV.
Good luck ESVision
Also as an aside I'm assuming this, EGHuK, EG to Korea, and IPL3 were all part of the "chain of news which not all will be good" that has been referenced recently.

If your ICCup association truly was as you outlined, ridding yourself of them only seems like a good thing. Happy for it.

Well, I have not played in iCCup in a while but from the BW forums I have read that there has been a lot of Admin Drama.
As far as Blizzard goes, they can never ever officially recognize and organization that provided a pirate server(regardless of if they were Ok with it or not).
I think this is a huge step for the iC- ESV guys.

We originally got a good brand name, some very very limited financial support for some new equipment, and staff/website support. The value of the brand name (iCCup) decreased A LOT, we stopped getting financial support, and stopped getting staff support.

Sounds good, gl to ICCUP TV
But, the title is horribly misleading as Crunchums said: dissolved=ended=firing everyone gg. not just renaming/branding the company.

srsly whos making the call behind blizzard? that individual/group is really messing things up in the esports scene. SC2 is lucky enough to have gone this far as far as esports goes....
but soon will end if they shut down other dedicated supports like ICCUP. hope they die soon tho, blizzard doesnt' deserve this much recognition for making such crap game. I would fully support ICCUP despite them making "secondary" server for SC Broodwar. It was all for the better of the players and the game itself.
Blizzard still greedy and arrogant company that I have imagined in my mind.

As much as it pains me to say this, it was 100% the right call by Blizz. They are not in the wrong here, I am for not doing this much sooner.

I'm wondering if the iCCup name has held Blizzard back from using the iCCup map making teams maps? There are some really nice iCCup maps and there are obviously a bunch of good map makers on the team. Odd for Blizzard not to use this resource otherwise since it seems their own map making mostly left a bunch of things to be desired.
In any case I hope this works out for the best, seems like a natural thing to do. Keep providing good content and maps!
|
I'm a huge fan of some of the maps I've been seeing from you guys in the Korean Weeklies. It's great being able to see unknown or even well known Koreans playing in the weeklies as I don't get much expose to their scene outside of the GSL.
Best of luck and hopefully with the name change Blizzard will be willing to look into your maps for a ladder edition!
|
good luck! look forward future productions keep doing what you're doing, i for one love it!
|
ICCup is always nice.... too bad their maps are not used more!
We all jumped on the GSL maps bandwagon, and not gave our own mapmakers a chance to use their tallent.
I honestly don't know of any other map except testbug that was used in any big tournament.

Thanks for all the content, I hope you all stay in the scene if thats what you want, best of luck going forwards

I am certain that the iCCup brand was one thing that always irked Blizzard when it came to those maps. As i said in my previous post its not that they necessarily hated iccup but more as in if they showed support to that they would be sending the wrong message(same thing with some of the MPQ edits in WoW, some of them are Ok but as far as Blizzards policy goes they are all forbidden). I am sure that the ESV team will now have a much better relationship with Blizzard now
I am pretty happy with this changes but damn Diamond you really need to be a little more diplomatic in some of your statements XD.

ESVision & Diamond Hwaiting!!!
|
Its amazing how hard you guys work. The korean weekly is such an amazing tourney with top-notch players, great quality and enjoyable casting, it really surprises me how you guys are able to pull it off without a solid backing.
Best of luck with ESvision.
PS everybody watch the korean weekly wtf why doesn't it have 10k+ views?

There are some really nice iCCup maps and there are obviously a bunch of good map makers on the team. Odd for Blizzard not to use this resource otherwise since it seems their own map making mostly left a bunch of things to be desired.
In any case I hope this works out for the best, seems like a natural thing to do. Keep providing good content and maps! I am sure that the ESV team will now have a much better relationship with Blizzard now I am pretty happy with this changes but damn Diamond you really need to be a little more diplomatic in some of your statements XD.
Yeah, it just never really struck me before that Blizzard would have any issues with the iCCup name. Of course once you hear it it makes sense, but for someone who never was very involved in the bw scene iccup seems to be such a natural and important part of sc:bw that it feels a bit weird to think of it as something that's actually not strictly legal. It feels rather like iccup is something that comes standard with bw should you buy it :p
|
oh man u scared me! but this looks rather like good news (at least for the viewers=) ) i never liked the iccup thing anyways because you r always one spot in front of me on LB^^
gl wih esv

Big thanks to you and the people you work with. Hopefully some iCCup ESV! maps and mapmakers get the recognition they deserve, and maybe even some maps on the ladder!

I was worried you were stopping.
I had always hoped you would do this, am very excited to watch many a more game casted by you guys.

Well I tried to be as much as possible. I ad considered just basically putting "We dissolved this shit yo, check out ESVision!" but then I realized there would be many many questions.
I have always prided myself about being upfront and honest with what is going on and I felt this was it. I am sorry if it came off bad !

No I really do care, I will look at the statement and see if I can touch it up a bit.
|
Thanks for all the Korean tournament coverage on the interesting maps. I'm always surprised that so few people watch it because the games are almost always really interesting.
|
ESVision is a bit too generic, a vision can be anything. Going down that line I'd go for ESAction, mapmaking and running/casting tournaments are what makes ESPORTS happen.
|
I voted no, but let me explain; this is not a stupid name by any means, I just feel that it does not sound very awesome. Anyway I'm fine with it, even though I'd love to know what are the probable alternatives.
|
Please let me know any alternatives you have. Remember we have to be able to secure a relevant domain name for it and also the JTV channel has to be not used. I actually had some cool names lined up before I realized I needed to check those !
|
For a moment I was like T_T but then I was like . Glad to see it's just a name change. I always love the korean weeklies and hope a new company will come forward to support ESVision to bring more great things in the future!
|
ESV sounds fine, I guess it could be more creative but I don´t know why so many people voted for it sounding stupid.
|
Very good post very well written and incredibly well reasoned makes sense completely.
ICCUP has never done anything good in sc2. Glad their not going to be after seeing their horror stories in blogs.
|
Good luck, but please change the name. It sounds so generic and unappealing
|
I am sad... but I'm also glad that you're able to move on and form a new company without the stigma name of Iccup being a "pirate" server.
|
I like the name. Reminds me of ESReality
|
Poll: Let's rename ICCUP TVnothing with Diamond in it please (14) 61% Your ICCUP is now Diamond (5) 22% Diamond TV (2) 9% ESports Diamond (1) 4% Something with Diamond, but none of above (1) 4% 23 total votes Your vote: Let's rename ICCUP TV (Vote): Diamond TV (Vote): ESports Diamond (Vote): Your ICCUP is now Diamond (Vote): nothing with Diamond in it please (Vote): Something with Diamond, but none of above

Good decision by Diamond. You should have done it sooner. ICCup name is a bit "tainted" when dealing with official game creators. Still it was a very cool name. About ESVision..... Well i dont dig the name too much... Maybe shorten it to ESV (but then again its similar to ESL).
This thread should now focus on finding a new and cool name for the old iccup tv
|
I wish you guys the best of luck in your new endeavor, iccup tv is by far one of my favorite streams so I am really glad to hear the content isn't changing. One question though, are you guys going to cast mlg replays again by chance?
Also, I have an idea for your new name! + Show Spoiler +
|
Phew, for a moment I thought you guys would stop all the things you were doing. Honestly, I could care less from ICCup and from what I read in the article, I did right in doing so. Anyways, I'll continue looking forward to more content from you guys, you guys are currently my sole source of news for the chinese sc2 scene!

The Korean weeklies and all the work done by ESV is amazing for the community as a whole and provides much under-appreciated content. Thank you for everything and I hope it all works out for you.
|
The title had me worried, but it sounds like this is actually pretty good news. Good luck on your new ventures/ESV.
|
Even the simple adjustment to ESTV would be better.
|
|
makes sense, best of luck in the future!
|
Thanks for the articulate update. I appreciate your candidness in confronting the limitations of getting Blizzard support while employing the iCCup name.
I'm looking forward to the future as I generally like your mapmakers/maps and, in the first 3 months after the release of SCII, I consumed a lot of fun Raelcun casts on iCCup TV. Good memories.
|
why dont you just simplfy the name to 'vision' then it implies forward movement and stuff, while also obviously being about (ip)TV
esvision sounds ghey
|
Sad about this, but gl in the future!
|
I'll definitely tune in! As always tho <3 <3
|
WHY !!!! ((((((

Well, I like the name iCCup better. I am glad that it is mostly just a change, bring on new ventures and not a complete dissolving. Good luck guys, I hope for the best!

Kind of scared that you had actually shut down. This could be quite an interesting venture. Best of Luck!

Great move ... I always loved you guys; your events and the casting is really enjoyable ... I hope you do will from now, and the best of the best of luck from here ..

There's no way legally (afaik) I can ask a color blind person to turn that off. It should stay, might just turn it off for Blizzcon.

Question: is the mapmaking team tied to you guys as well or are they with iccup.com? I was about to say that nothing of value was lost if you never got any support from iccup.com, but losing the mapmaking team and the ICCup maps would be a blow. The biggest reasons why I always watch the Korean weeklies (even though I'm less interested in the players) are the new and interesting maps, as well as the stronger team colour mod. :D
Best of luck in the future anyway!

Mapmaking team is tied to iCCup TV and will be following me wherever I end up.

I'm glad to see that the Korean weeklies will stay. I just want to say that I watch it whenever I can because the level of play is high and I think orb does an AMAZING job casting it, especially since he does it solo! I can't say the same for the other leagues (IPL, NASL, etc.), which I watch depending on 1) what the matchup is and 2) who is casting (and don't say just mute it, that completely ruins it, just like how I'd never watch a football/tennis/hockey/basketball game on TV without sound or commentary, it's just weird).
|
Best of luck in the future, have loved Korean Weekly content and Orb (get him a co-caster!). Will continue to watch with interest.

An instead of thanking them(thanking by not pressuring, i cant imagine blizzard being to generous), blizzard spit on what has been done for all these years...I mean played twice bw on bnet...And both of times i said never again.
And as far as i know, starcraft 2 wise, iccup did cooperate with blizzard...They did not try to run servers...So whats the deal about trying to make sc2 folks forget about iccup ? they think that if these "illegal" servers disappear bw will suddenly sell 1 more million of copies ? iccup is part of the history of bw and i feel like blizzard is just trying to act like bnet did the job...

Yeah as has been discussed here a little bit I was trying to still do things with both FXO and iCCup for a while but I came to the decision that my work with FXO just made a lot more sense. I think "Star" is a neutral word, but Starcraft is trademarked by Blizzard (could be wrong though). We could use that I suppose?

The name is kinda dumb.
The korean weekly is really the only weekly cup I watch. Soooo good luck.
|
name? uh, well, last name was iccup so i can't really imagine how esv would be worse...
|
Good luck in the new venture guys! ICCup just has a few bad apples (mostly BW-killing apples *rage*), it's not that bad overall.
EDIT:
Pandabearguy.tv has potential...
|
I was sad when I read the title, but after reading the contents of the post, it doesn't seem too bad. However, I don't really like the name ESV...
|
Too bad Blizzard couldn't accept what iCCup did for bw (at least for me practicing(=getting roflstomped at the start of the season)) against pro koreans woho), but this seem to be good solution. And the name is good enough. Keep up the good work.
GL HF!

So if im getting this straight it's nothing more but a glorified name change?
|
Well, I'm glad you guys are finally sticking up for what's yours. It saddens me to hear even though you promoted iccup with the stream name you didn't get anything out of it. Hope everything works out for you guys =), but please reconsider the name ^_^

iCCup <3 . I found it hard to believe its illegal. ESVision is an alright name, liked iCCupTV better ^-^

ESTV is great because the acronym is catchy. You could just have it mean E-Sports TV instead
|
Okay so I lose electricity for 4 days, log into steam and someone says "DUDE WHY DID ICCUPTV DISSOLVE!?". I was of course like "wut?", and in a panic attack logged into TL and tried to figure out what happened. Then I saw it basically just got renamed and I was like :D.
|
EG is gonna buy them.. and its gonna be called EGTV. :D
|
I suggest a non-acronym, non inside SC community, non '_______gaming' name. They are very cliche and WILL KILL ESPORTS!
Something competitive. Something game/war/space without being too specific. Something about a community/league/group?
Nothing beats Starleague - worked in Korea, not polarizing - how about StarleagueTV?
|
Iccup name represented pirate servers in blizzards eye. They came down on them, made sense to change name
|
I admire what you've done. Same goes for iCCup as a server though - they are very needed as well. Good decision to part ways in this particular case. ESV is okay, short and sweet.
|
Good luck guys! I love the Korean weeklies, and I'll keep watching under any name!
|
Obviously blizzard cant like someone who makes their games free to play.

I don't see any problems with the name, best of luck in the future. You have done a lot of cool things!
|
Wow, who'd have expected that one of the biggest names in SC2 has to shut down because of reasons like this
|
That saddens me, you've done so much for the community without receiving enough.
|
if its good for you do it the names quite ok i think, just like the previous game. just go on and gl with that
|
It seems like a good and well thought-out move. Your dedication and continuous support and contributions to the community are admirable. I'm especially happy, next to your event coverage/stream, with the maps you come up with and the fact that they are not being ignored, but embraced by the community and incorporated into the biggest tournaments & competitive fields. I hope that you'll be able to continue on this course for a long time.
It might take a while to adjust to the new name, but I feel the "not cool" crowd should keep in mind that a brand/name becomes cool by the actions it takes and things it is associated with, making it only a matter of time before a difference is no longer noticeable.
Good luck, ESVision, full speed ahead, and again a big thank you from me!
|
sad sad cant belive this happen
|
Good luck!
But man, that you made the name iCCup so big for all starcrafters must have been such an achievement. Sad to see it all disappear...
I'm eating some watermelon to hold back the tears.

I was very worried this morning when I skimmed this, I'm glad I came back and read it in full.
You guys do really good work, and I'm glad you're able to continue, regardless of what banner you sail under. Good luck with the transition!
|
Really pathetic of the iCCup guys to totally flake and fail to support their own brand with iCCup TV, but I'm very glad that you guys are getting rid of them, separation from iCCup will help you and E-Sports grow.

You might be right, however Blizzard does give out licenses to stream/host tournaments. Like I have a charity event that I named "Starcraft Charity Events" or "SCE" for short. This is listed in my license with them. However, since I don't make money on it that is a bit different. Anyhow ESV isn't that bad, but maybe talk to Blizzard and see if they will give you the right to use "Starcraft" as part of your tv name. After all, its you Diamond. I know you and I know what you can do. If Blizzard allows you to, you will be the next big thing since when it comes to streaming. Right up there with things like the WCG Stream. You've got nothing to lose by talking to them. Good luck and if you ever need anything, you know how to reach me.
|
Kinda saw this coming really, good luck to you all at ESV in all your future endeavours!
|
so what are you guys selling the company or just changing names????

ESV is the common abbreviation for a very popular bible version "English Standard Version." =\

I'll miss the good ol' days of ICCup, too bad Blizzard doesn't give you guys the support you deserve. Good luck hopefully you guys continue to have the same amount of awesome!
|
iCCup deserves 100% of blizzards support and its sad that they did not give it. Yes it was illegal but you could argue that without iCCup there would have been no SCBW foreigner scene and you can easily state that Teamliquid, and everything foreigner related would not of been as huge without the help of ICCUP.
|
Wow this is huge. I'm glad you guys will be getting support from blizzard (finally), but don't you think it'd be unwise to change the name of the company? In terms of branding everyone in the community knows what iCCup is, but no one knows what the hell ESV is. i suppose its one of those acceptable sacrifices, but you're giving up years of branding doing this.
|
ESV is much much much better then iccup tv, i think you know why, right? i see you.....tv
|
ESPORTal (however you want to capitalize it) popped into my mind, but apparently, the name, in relations to esports, is already taken*, and that's not even counting the actual URL, which has nothing to do with esports.
*Though it looks like it's defunct.
Good luck!
|
I think this is a good move. GL GL!!
|
Always felt the work of you and your staff has gone a bit under the radar. For myself I never payed much attention to iccup in regards to sc2 because of the attitude the site seemed to hold for it. I think this is an excellent move and you and yours are one of the support pillars to the growing sc2 scene. Goodluck with this move, I can see only better things coming from it going forward.
(Edited for sleepy bad spelling everywhere)
|
Hope the venture under the new name gets more support, and you can really make a good go of it! Thanks for all the hard work.
Also, I kind of like ESV - I don't even think the TV bit is a necessary add-on. It's not just television after all, it's ESVision
|
I can't say i paid attention to the brand because i mostly just click the stream link on TL, but your stream has become a staple of my SC2 diet and i wish you the absolute best in your rebranding and hope that you find a company willing to support you. You do great streams and deserve to be rewarded for your hard work and talent.
|
Ah well it's sad to see the ICCUPtv name die but as long as you guys keep being awesome it's all good right? ESVtv is definitely not a good name though. Sounds very generic. I hope you guys will change it.
|
As long as your stream pops up on my liquid sidebar Im fkn in. ICCup is getting old, why no like boys?
|
Love the work you are doing. Hope it all end good for you.
|
When i first read this, i was so sad...but i calmed after i went through it all. Diamond fighting!
ESVision tho....don't like it that mutch.... the vision part sounds strange...even if i know what u are aiming at. Considering u are so loved by the community, maybe make some more options and make a pool...what would the community want. (This ofc if u don't sign up with any major firm).
|
Honestly, the name doesn't matter... the contents do
|
wow, this is sad. Iccup have been a the sole server i've used a very long time. Nice to see you are still going forward but i'll really be missing the name..
|
Hmm, how bout the name Hiccup :-)
Then u still take pride in your history, and u get a unique name
|
I don't really like the name to be honest. Yesterday when I was watching the CH Blizzcon Qualifiers. I thought that ESL TV was streaming it. When I opened the stream I saw that Orb was casting it, so I knew something was wrong.
A name that looks so much like another company is not a good name tbh.
|
i am a huge fan of the korean weekly, but...
am i the only one who can read this "pirated servers"-part? what you need illegal servers for?
|
Oh, just a name change. Sorta makes sense if you think about it. Obviously Blizzard can't promote a name that directly points people to a private server for BW, even if they don't have any problem with it (which they don't, as they haven't stopped it from running like with BnetD).
|
I wish this had more publicity in the past, as I would have made more notice of iccup. But now it looks like I will have this chacne
|
Best of luck. All of the shows and effort you guys have put forth since beta is appreciated.
Cannot wait to see the new name decision.
|
kinda bitter sweet when thinking of all the great things ICCUP have done for the community, especially foreigner Brood War but Diamonds post is full of hope and positive vibes so i am not THAT sad again
best of luck guys you are the best <3 <3 <3
|
Good luck ESV
|
Good Luck, I hope you continue to have success under your new name
|
Frankly I never really understood why you guys even tried to pull ICCup into SC2, I made absolutely no sense at all. ICCup is a Broodwar community (among other games ofc), centered around a pirate server.
Now that I hear you didn't even receive financial support, I gotta ask-- What took you so long? ^^
Good move on your part, now you're freeer.
|
How do you feel about the loss of the brand name strength of iCCup? I know they've fallen out of favor as far as their SC:BW ladder and their SC2 situation, but on the flip side they essentially created the competitive scene, dozens of very top tier and entertaining maps, and really laid the groundwork for a lot of development in eSports.
|
iCCup gave me lots of good memories in BW times, It'll never be forgotten
|
ESV TV sounds too similar to ESL TV
|
Even though i too don't like the shortname I really like the whole project. I would really like to see some kind of information site contents things like actual staff members and what they do. Projects you are working at and information how to support you guys. Nothing big just a little information page would be enough. I had a really hard time to figure out where you came from or who you guys are - even the stream thread on tl was closed for a new one that never appeared / no where linked. Iccup forums were somewhat empty and I just could not find anything....
Hope you think about that (i am writing this because new url is linking to stream again ;( ) - ignore this post if i am just too stupid to find some official threads/sites about you ^^
|
Sorry to hear this. I hope you guys get rewarded somehow from what you are doing. About the name, i don't like "ESV TV". Reminds me too much of ESL.
Good luck and keep up the good work!
|
It is sad to hear but at the same time, by what I've seen Raelcun was a big part of keeping iccuptv alive and with him gone I don't think this will live long after...

My Opinion, ESVTV is an akward name, E-vision TV flows better.
I hope things work out well for all of you, Continue to move up in the world of E-sports.

Farewell ESV TV doesn't exactly flow off the tongue either.

Thanks for all of the support guys! I'd like to just remind you all that our new name is not officially decided at this point, and we are open to suggestions. So please suggest something you'd like!

Clearly you should replce "TV" with "Network": ESVN.
Edit: But now that I think about it, "Vision Network" sounds like you're an insurance provider. "Video Network" sounds better.
|
You guys are doing a good job putting content out there and this split from the iccup network sounds like a step in the right direction. I agree that the name is pretty bad though.

As mentioned 101 times above, ESV is way to close to ESL.. Also, It didn't make sense to be "partners" with iCCUp and then go broadcast SC2 either

ESN sounds good - you don't necessarily need to have the "tv" in the name like that. (website-wise, esn.net redirects to portbridge.com - some business class ISP company? and esn.tv is some random google site with 0 content.)
Sad this is happening, but if the worst negativity in this thread is about choice of name, that's not bad! You guys are dedicated, you can make it work!

^ This, ESVision sounds like you should be a lame eye glasses company, not a E-Sports group to be entirely honest.
But best of luck with your venture and renaming.
|
Sounds interesting, I hope everything works out.
I have never played on iCCup, I was always a casual player of WC 3 and BW and stuck to Bnet. As such the iCCup name doesn't have much connotation for me and I can't imagine I am alone in this regard. There are also a lot of SC2 players who have never played another Blizzard RTS who I bet are scratching their heads wondering what an iCCup is and what all the fuss is about.
With that in mind, if changing the name opens doors for ESV/iCCup.tv then I say go for it. I think this organization has a lot of potential that has yet to be tapped and I don't see how keeping the current name could benefit them in any major way. Best of luck to Diamond.
|
Just make sure the name can roll off the tongue. You don't want to make it sound "nasally" if you catch my drift.
ES(bla) sounds a lot like ESFI, ESL, and other stuff tbh Something different would be good for you guys to stand out, and for the community.

EG's going to purchase your map-making team and fly them to a small apartment in Nebraska to start a pro-map-maker-house. The maps will all have the tag "EG" in them. When Blizzard refuses to adopt any of the EG maps into the ladder pool or their own official Blizzard tournaments, Alex Garfield will purchase the rights to David Kim and make him put EG maps in the map pool.
Milkis will translate Activision-Blizzard's response from English to English so we here at TL can know what's going on. Alex Garfield will naturally be upset at Milkis' lack of journalistic integrity.
|
Since this is a transitional time for the company, and the cliche "ESPORTS" is overused; I would recommend "NuclearSC.TV" after Raelcun (standup guy). You could even abbreviate NSC.TV for short! Just think of the tag line: "We're going to make these games and maps... GO NUCLEAR!" Also, who doesn't want to play a map named "NuclearSC Steamy Vents?"
|
A bit sad to hear, but hopefully this opens a lot of new doors for you guys! A ton of good luck in the new projects! Have a good one
|
Man, where have I been the past few days??? To be honest I see this in an extremely positive light and as a huge step forward for you guys. Like you said ICCup isn't exactly focused on SC2 which is why I was always slightly baffled by your partnership with them. I think you're far better off freeing yourself of that burden and becoming recognized by Blizzard as a legitimate business operating within their terms of service. There's just so much more you guys can do now and I look forward to seeing what you bring to the table!
I've got a lot of time on my hands so if you need any help at all just hit me up. I wish you guys the best of luck with wherever this move takes you and I'm sure the rest of the guys from SLP have your back as well.
Seriously though if you don't make a deal with a corporation promise me you'll at least come up with something better than "ESV". Its just atrocious Pat, you can do better than that
|
Will you be changing your legendary name from iccup.diamond to ????.diamond?
|
I think that any ES..TV name will be a bit too similar to ESL.TV. Maybe it's better to think more "outside the box" (I know it sounds lame ).
Think about what the core business will be and what sort of approach or ideals you bring to the table. Then just disregard it all and come up with some ridiculously cool name instead .
HulkSmash.tv? WeHaveTheBestMapsAnyway.tv? DiamondTV? ColorBlind.TV? Vibrant.TV? Spam4APM.tv? Automaton2000.tv? ForeverDiamond.TV? NerdChills.TV? WeKillEsports.TV? KillingEsports.TV? NerdsBroadcasting.TV? WeCastGames.TV? RedRooster.TV? BakedGaming.TV? WeAlsoMakeMaps.TV?
Just some random (bad) suggestions for inspiration
As long as it's memorable and recognizable (and not really lame) I'm fine with it.
|
Honestly, as long as raelcun doesn't commentate or pov then it's worth it. Otherwise... Don't bother. However, that's just my straight forward opinion.

I dont want to take a stand if i like the name atm but there is one thing i can say. (sorry, I am a bit drunk but sometimes you have to express yourself...)
Iccup has always been awesome. When pgt went down, the only thing that kept me interested in BW was Daum.tv and iccup(abyss back then). Everyone was complaining because there were no maps and MU stats etc. lol, Blizz didnt give these until today!!!!
Iccup has delivered some of the best maps, some of the best time of my laddering experience after pft/wgt/fish weren't playable for different reasons..
Keep going and imo a name is not that important. If the content is good, people will catch it anyways!!
GL

Hmmm, don't really like ESVision, so here's some names I'll just throw out there.
Gaming Vision, GV-TV, gv.tv Premier Gaming, PG-TV (sounds like a rating, haha), pg.tv Global Gaming, GG-TV (I like that it has GG, :p), gg.tv Good Game Television/Broadcasting GG-TV GGNORE-TV (Gee Gee No Ree TV, has a catch to it)
I'll probably think of more and add them after, good luck in your new ventures!
|
eSports Vision is fine but instead of shortening it to ESV TV, try EV TV. A lot snappier.
|
I always knew something like this was destined to happen once Starcraft 2 came out. Blizzard is much more strict than they have been in the past and technology has changed drastically. I am glad that ICCUP will change its name to make Blizzard happy and hopefully gain some backing/sponsorship/new life. There are just too many ESPORTS tournaments/happenings/hype going on for a organization with the infastructure of ICCUP to just simply fade away. Can't wait to see what's in store for the new ICCUP! ^_^
|
Also most of the new traffic came in the form of DoTA1 users and almost no growth in SC2 or E-Sports.
I'm sorry but do you know the exact definition of E-Sports? SC2/SC:BW are not the only games that make up E-Sports. E-Sports is made up of pretty much every video game. Even LoL. The History Of Esports
Just thought I'd pass that on. Other than that good luck and I hope you can continue to do what you guys do so well ^^. O and, exactly how many people aren't coming/how many are?

Yep. But the growth iCCup received was not really E-Sports related. It was just a popular game that had a sequel coming out. People were not coming to iCCup looking to watch pro DoTA matches, they came to play some DoTA just to hold them over until DoTA 2.
As a perfect example the DoTA iCCup servers usually have 10-25k users yet their DoTA1 streams that iCCup was doing only draw 100-300 viewers max. We embedded a player for several different games on the frontpage of iCCup.com and still get more hits from people PIP'ing our stream in Destiny's stream.
Don't lecture me on E-Sports, I have a pretty firm grasp on it.

iCCup has been iCCup forever! It doesn't fit with ESV imo

Really glad to see it, especially if iccup wasnt doing their part to help you guys out. GL with the new name I know I will be tuning into the Korean weeklys as they are always enjoyable and its great to see some of the lesser known players in KR.
