FXOpen e-Sports is announcing that Australian Zerg player Andrew “mOOnGLaDe” Pender will no longer be a part of the FXO roster.
After granting extended personal leave from top tier competitive StarCraft to allow Pender to sort out his personal life, a reassessment of both of our long-term plans revealed that a mutual release would best suit both parties. While Pender has taken this break to deal with several personal matters his StarCraft career goals no longer fit with what FXO is trying to achieve now or in the future. Effective immediately “mOOnGLaDe” will no longer be representing the FXO team for StarCraft II.
Andrew "mOOnGLaDe" Pender writes: "I've learnt a lot being in FXO, it is a shame our time has ended, but I wish FXO the best of luck in the future!"
We thank “mOOnGLaDe” as one of the first members of FXOpen e-Sports for his time with FXO. It is unfortunate that our long-term goals did not coincide and we wish him all the best in his future endeavours.

Hmmm, FXO seems to be making some serious moves with the direction of their team. With the release of Sheth and moonglade and acquisition of fOu, they seem to be making some long term korean plans.
Saw this coming a mile away, just wondered what took so long. All he does is play sea tournies lately so not even sure if he wants to continue as a pro gamer. Though we don't know the extent of his personal problems.
Yeh suppose with the personal issues perhaps he doesnt want to commit to fulll time gaming, suppose we will have to wait and see. Good Luck both Moonglade and FXO!!!!
anyway, good moves from FXO. I really look forward to the direction they are heading in esports. Though, i really hope they find some good zergs lol.. our cutie pie leenock is their only zerg left

FXO seems to only be going in one direction now, and those who can't go with it will be kicked. It's kinda sad really...m00nglade is a great guy and player.

I have a lot of respect for FXO for committing to Korea and trimming the dead weight who don't have the same ambitions as them. Korea is the place to be if you want to be the best and it's too bad that so many "progamers" would rather stay put in North America and settle for mediocrity and not try to tap their true potential.
Somehow I felt this would happen... A great Zerg player, I am sure he will find another team if he wishes to continue to compete. Hopefully his personal matters get solved and all is alright.

This is not sad, this is great. It's not great for moonglade of course. Him having personal problems sucks and I really hope it works out for him.
However this is great for the foreign scene, and for FXO. It's about time teams make sure their player commit fully and stay dedicated to improving their game. FXO has a plan for what they want to do to have their players achieve maximum results, and they're sticking with that. For that I respect them immensely.
I hope that other foreign teams will start to take after FXOs model. If you are a player you either commit fully, or there will be someone who's willing to do that to take your place.
And once again I really do hope moonglade is able to work his problems out, whatever they are.
I really hope this doesn't seem like some kind of hate but I really never liked mOOnGLaDe. Every public appearance I saw of the guy really didn't leave me a big fan of his. Of course this has nothing to do with his play and he remains the strongest SC2 player Australia has yet fielded, whatever that means for SEA. Regardless, in all likely hood this is going to give me the opportunity to become more of a FXO fan. Again I really don't mean this to be a downer in an otherwise carebear thread. I'm just trying to share an honest opinion, for whatever that's worth.
Edit: Forgot the most important part: Good Luck in the future mOOnGLaDe and FXO, truly, whichever direction you're heading.
I don't know why I find it disappointing but as FXO takes an approach to try to train and completely better themselves as an organization and as players especially by acquiring fOu and the house in Malaysia players keep on leaving as it doesn't meet their goals. Which is reasons why Korea will always pull ahead of us because foreigners don't want to be put on a hard training schedule.
Won't lie, If I was FXO I would do the same thing. Probably came to a point where waiting and waiting just wouldn't cut it anymore and let's face it. Moonglade really hasn't accomplished anything close to what FXO is looking for. Hopefully FXO replaces people who are not stoked to play and wanting to just break into the scene, I hope to see FXO put together a full team house for the foreign FXO players, and that ALL of them are attending. It's time to turn pro gaming into a substantial career. fill that house up! Best of luck to Moonglade.

Great for the foreign scene? FXO aren't even part of our scene any more, sure they have foreign players, but everything they do is in korea and that area. Anyone who doesn't want to drop everything and move to another country is kicked? AND theyre kicking their best non-korean players because of that? Thats not good.

Ummm what? This, and what happened with sheth, had nothing to do with moving to another country... And even those two cases are extremely different.
GLade has other priorities in his life right now, that is fine and good. I have known him for almost 11 years now, and I respect his decisions. At the same time, there was a spot in the team being taken by someone who is considerably inactive. So now we have space to recruit other members who share our vision... Which, has very little to do with korea in general.
Dam. Hope moonglade figures out whatever problems he is facing currently. It would be a waste of talent if he decides to not play anymore, but i would not hold it against him.
I am looking forward to see who FXO picks up next!
This decision had to be made, unfortunately. As a caring employer you give a good employee a time out, if he struggles for a couple of month. After the time is up, you talk to him again. If the employee cannot get out of his shell again, you have no other choices than to terminate the contract (mutually).
Not very surprising, considering how long he was away from the scene. Still a shame, and I hope Moonglade can come back better than ever. Good luck to both parties!
Edit: Also, this might be an opportunity for FXO to pick up another Aussie (maybe someone relatively unknown?) and get him all gosu and shit. Anyway, gl once again.
How does this fit with his IEM Cologne spot? He wont be accepting it? FXO wont be sending him?
I personally think a lot of teams could learn from FXO, there is no point having players who have lost interest or are too busy to train on your roster. If you are trying to run a business then you have to be considered stupid to keep players after they evidently stop caring or trying (not talking about glade here, just the amount of players signed after beta who have given little or no good shwoings in 1 year).

jaeh but not with only koreans, they have 2 parts a korean and a foreign section and i am sure they will keep it that way. but with moonglade not being part in any of this two, also not played in teamleague i saw this coming
FXO's seems to have a pretty clear view of what they want going forward. Really excited to see what they have planned.
Hope this doesn't affect moonglade to much. It would be a shame if he is unable to compete despite wanting to because lack of team support. Best of luck to him in SC2 or whatever else he decides to do going forth!!
<Beware of troll!> And look, they didn't have to include details about their discussions with moonglade and how he wanted an X travel stipend beyond what FXO was able to afford and what not. /troll
To bad for mOOnGLaDe :/ ! Became a fan first time I saw him play.. Hopefully he will sort out his person problems, get a new team and keep competing as a progamer! :D
Everyone needs to give big time props to FXO for sticking to their players for such a long period of time and giving them chances. ie) Sheth and now moonglade. I am telling you as a fan of his style, I actually completely forgot about him. I didnt even think he retired or was taking a break, but i forgot. Thats how bad it was. Hes pro and should be playing more and it sounds like to me maybe those problems arent actually problems but my guess is that real life is starting to kick in for some people where they have other priorities right now. Its great for all parties.
I hope FXO picks up someone good.
GL to moonglade, the original muta style, not dongragu.

This makes so little sense I don't even know where to begin. First of all I think FXO has set up a team house in the SEA area, outside of Korea (I can't remember the country to save my life, I'd like to say Singapore or Malaysia but I'm not very sure). This, coupled with the fact that their intentions seem to be to participate in foreign events and that they actually have foreign players, I think makes them a foreign team.
And yes, if a teams ambition is to set up a team house for its players to practise in (which I think it is generally agreed on is the best way to practise) it makes sense to let go of players who are not dedicated enough to make that happen.
If the foreign seen wants to reach the level of play of the Korean scene, which I think is a necessity for the foreign scene to survive long term and not turn into sc:bw all over, teams need to be ambitious and push their players to become better. To make that happen teams will most likely have to let go less motivated and dedicated players.
And even the best players will eventually fall behind without enough hard work, dedication and practise. This is a long term decision from FXO, betting that in a couple of months a hard working player will be better than someone who's not motivated to put in the time to practise.

You can't just keep paying salaries to a player who has been pretty much inactive for months.

He may was inactive for some time and I think everyone can understand it when someone needs a break for personal reasons. BUT he did played at least the last two month where he won some stuff http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/MOOnGLaDe
(WCG 2011 Sydney Qualifier)
And please don't play the QXC card.. of cause he is really awesome, IM allkill etc. But he is going to continue studying in the USA. And then, sady, I think he won't have time to train like he is doing now.
There must have been a real fallout behind the curtain. When you split up, you usually state something like we mutually agreed blah blah in order to let the other person save face. But when you "release" someone, it is quite a harsh wording and indicates that moonglade was not ok with getting the boot.

This is just speculation but I think that even if QXC does study he is probably bound by some agreement to do regular practice with the fxoteam. Hes probably not going to be doing 8 hours a day like in korea but i'd assume he would still be in contact with the malaysia house for training. Players like sheth and moonglade who are amazingly talented and can train by themselves probably arent what the team necessarily wants or needs. They probably see far more value in investing in new players such as tgun and fou lineup and developing them as players. To do that they need a regular training environment and proof of commitment by atttending international and sponsored events and training with the team.

Moonglade is Australian. And he didn't join them to Korea because of issues. I knew this would happen when there was STILL no sign of him uniting with his teammates in Korea after all this time. I haven't seen much of Moonglade competing at all actually since then. I hope it's not girl issues because at the time he was dating her.
I knew the "Kelly as the next Yoko Ono" comments would come. Does it matter? Its a game and Moonglade while a great player, wasn't exactly rocking the tournaments. He would be better advised to make sure he focuses on his studies in University. Career prospects for a mid-level SC2 player don't really look fantastic.
If I were good enough and FXO would send me to Korea I would grind the ladder 15 hours every day -_- so much fun. But I'm neither good enough nor willing to give up my life.

What do you mean giving up on life? I fail to see how playing 5 hours a day "having life" is any better than playing 15 hours and actually winning and progressing. You learn tons of things playing a game (when you get into real life you learn about chances, strategy, thinking ahead, planning to name a few things) and you learn far more playing it in a competitive environment.
You don't want to play it at the highest level that's fine, more power to you. But don't go telling others to "get a real life". This is their life, this is ours. For guys who never had the chance to compete at the highest level it means so much when an idol of theirs goes to compete and plays and wins.
Anyone else notice that whenever a player leaves for a better team or is kicked off, every team manager uses the same terms to describe why they're not on the team anymore? The whole "long term goals not coinciding" thing.
I feel like I'd feel better if they just came out and said they were dropping him because he wasn't making enough tournament appearances

Well to be honest the tournaments he did go to he rocked (Minus GSL, where he was eliminated both times by players who got Code S shortly afterwards) and if he kept it up he would have been far above "Mid-level" but i imagine having to fly all around the world all the time to do so would be tiring. I agree, except in GSL mOOnGLaDe was eliminated by JJUN and TT1. Not Code S level at all. And mOOnGLaDe SHOULD have beaten TT1, he CRUSHED him with AMAZING play in Game 1, but just fell apart the next two games for some reason.
I don't mean to sound harsh but I was never a fan of his. I never thought he was very good, relatively speaking. Also I always got the impression that he seemed to have a rather elated opinion of himself. When, really, he's just an Andy Serkis look alike who plays mediocre starcraft.

He was never in the top, but not many players are top, and very few foreigners are. GLaDe is a solid player and he's done very well at some tournaments and beaten some great opponents.

Well to be honest the tournaments he did go to he rocked (Minus GSL, where he was eliminated both times by players who got Code S shortly afterwards) and if he kept it up he would have been far above "Mid-level" but i imagine having to fly all around the world all the time to do so would be tiring. Hopefully after some time for himself he comes back more motivated and even stronger!! Been a fan since Wc3, mOOnGLaDe fighting!!!!
TT1 was in that super tournament or something I think. For GSL he lost to MvP's viOLet iirc.

He lost to violet in the Code A qualifiers. ZeNEXJJuN beat him in GSL May Ro32, who then went on to lose to Rain.

Mid-level? you dont stay #1 on the SEA server as a mid-level sc2 player im afraid. MoOnGlAdEs really has the gift and its a shame people let there jealousy blind them. Im suprised Kelly Milkis is getting all this hate after all the translating and casting shes done for the community... You guys really need to grow up and stop hating.
It's actually very possible to have been #1 SEA and still be nowhere near top tier... SEA was the weakest realm after LA.

You're not the brightest bulb are you? There's been a bunch of top tier SEA players destroying the NA ladder and even taking rank 1 at times (refer to Kowi).

Implying SC2 is a purely long macro based game? He was a WC3 pro who excelled in micro, why not use that advantage he has.

nGenJazbas taking 33rd on the NA ladder doesn't really constitute 'destroying'. Top SEA players can do well on the NA ladder (and there are a handful in NA) but that's a fragment of the server and they can't compare to the pros for the most part - the ones that can, if they can, are extremely few.

I think Gview showed that pretty well, sadly.
JazBas wasn't the only one who made it high in the NA ladder. A lot of SEA players dominate through the NA ladder but also aren't in the top 200 either because the list is full.
Maybe EG wants to reach out to the Australian/SEA market.
That would be absolutely awesome!
Anyway, can't wait to see him at IEM, hopefully he's in good form. The impression I sometimes get from moonglade is that he is inconsistent, but when in best shape he owns everyone. Hope he keeps up the struggle! Best of luck to him!

Except you know, tgun was 1 win away from making it into the later tournament bracket of MLG Anaheim, I think only losing to Choya? Even BoxeR commented on tgun saying that if he just got a little bit better, he'd do really well in korea because of his style and good looks lol.

Slog is pretty good just makes some mistakes that cost him games (GSTL not sending dts to stop the terran push after he does a smart double xpo build)
tgun is prob. the worst player on FXO but he has made so much progress so fast. He went the farthest in mlg I think? Maybe qxc not sure.

He was still doing SEA tourneys, and dominating them, as well as qualifying for IEM. I'd say that's enough of a benefit.
Tgun is a beautiful sunflower, close to blooming. He just needs some more watering and snail bait to achieve greatness.
Saw this coming since moonglade stopped participating in foreign events (bar IEM). Wish him the best in the future. Hope he decides to commit more to SC2 in the future.

But seriously :'( I like moonglade. I hope it gets himself sorted out what ever the issue may be.
The other people in FXO all seem like hardworking great guys and all, but you just can't create the talent and charisma both Moonglade and Sheth have. Running any kind of team is about getting the best people and managing those people so that you move forwards together. I understand the mindset that you want to get rid of anyone who doesn't immediately want to do things your way, but this is what being a manager and a boss is all about. The fact that you've lost such massive talents from your organisation is, in my tiny opinion, an indictment of your failure to manage.

Are you serious? FXO's wants to have most of their players in Malaysia/Korea, and that wasn't something Sheth wanted to do, it had nothing to do with failing to manage him well, they left on good terms. I won't comment on Moonglade because we don't know anything about what happened, but Moonglade said that they left on good terms, so it's very unlikely it's anything scandalous.

You realize that sometimes a team and a player just don't fit each other right? Regardless of skill and personality, Sheth and Moonglade seem to have different goals than what FXO is striving for. Both left the team on good terms from everything I've heard as well. Its not a failure to manage when its a mutual split. Its just a difference in what they each want.

What failure to manage? FXO has done more for the foreign sc2 scene than any other "pro team" in the space of a year and they only have gotten this far because of the managements vision. Compared to other teams which only care about having strong players and competing at MLG/DH/IPL, FXO is already so far ahead of them. Player salaries? Done. Sponsors? Done. Hosting regular tournaments? Done. Teamhouse? GOT TWO AND DONE. GSL? DONE. Koreans? GOT MORE THAN 10 AND A HOUSE THERE TOO!
They may have parted ways with sheth and moonglade but the players have never said anything bad about their time with fxo and are thankful for the opportunities given to them. Thats more than you can say about their previous teams Immunity(?) and Root that couldnt fly them to international events or offer them a salary that reflects their skill.

on the other hand they have sick players like leenock, sc, choya, oz and thebest now
In which tournaments did he participate? I can't remember ever hearing this name, or seeing this picture albeit following SC2 since the very beginning.
Best player on South East Asia, been so for a long time. Got 4th place at the first IEM that they invited Koreans and the Koreans got 1st 2nd and 3rd. Got into Code A months ago and didn't do very well there unfortunately. Got into top 8 of the most recent IEM. Got into NASL and did just well enough to get into season 2. He's spent quite a few months back in Australia after he went to Korea due to reasons he never really went into.
Alternatively you could just look him up on liquipedia.

Seriously?
He won IEM SEA Season V vs Loner, best non-Korean at the IEM World Championships Season V (ahead of Idra, Morrow, Fenix, qxc, Sjow, Socke, Tarson, White-Ra) and he did well at the Season VI Global Challenge Cologne as well. He played in GSL Code A. He played in the GSL World Championship World Allstar team and the individual tournament.
Highly prolific SC2 player, not sure how you could've missed him, to be honest.

Moonglade is maybe the most wellknown player from the SEA-SC2 scene.
Lately he wasn't so aktive but he was the best foreigner @ IEM Season V - World championship and reached Ro8 at IEM VI Global Challenge Cologne after even defeating Huk and Tarson.

He was too good for her anyway. I wonder what he's up to nowadays. Probably wanting some privacy, I'd expect. Australians generally aren't the "oh look at me, look at all the details of my private life"-type.

Also, he asked if he was taking a break... he never stated he was. We just wanted to know what he's been up to. Glad he is ripping it up, I always enjoy his games when I can catch em.
