This is about one of a few things:
1) Koreans trying to squeeze out NASL so that GSL remains number 1 2) They're pissed off at the EG/PuMa thing and they don't want that to repeat 3) They're pissed off at the hours of play and don't want to go through it again 4) They hate the tournament format for the finals and think its a waste of time
There may be other reasons, but those are the ones I can think of.
What I don't understand is why they went through the trouble of giving NASL an ultimatum. They clearly had no intention of competing to begin with. NASL has basically agreed to cover all travel costs... Bah, you're just speculating. You don't know their minds or motives. Speculation is the only remaining option when what has been announced as the reason doesn't seem quite convincing. If the decision wasn't political in nature, I'm pretty sure sc2con wouldn't be negotiating and players would just drop out one by one on their own and decide not to apply / play. Again, speculating about things you dont understand is reckless.
That's the nature of speculation though.
If I did understand them (entirely), then it wouldn't be speculation in the first place.

You should invite people like Puzzle and San to replace some of those koreans. I've watched their streams and if I remember correctly both of them were wishing to play in foreign tournaments.

+1
Team zenex and nshoseo have immensely talented players and aren't mentioned in the strike, see about them?

I can see how it's going to hurt NASL if they dont but I dont see how it's going to hurt NASL much if they do. We would love to guarantee a 100% covered cost to every single player. We have a fixed budget, we're a company that is less than 1 year old and we're trying to do great things. We don't have the VC backing and years of events hosted such as companies like MLG (nor do we have the backing of a major corporation like GOMTV). The offer we made is literally the most we can do with the current budget we have. You'll end up losing a lot of your viewers tho. So the question is, is this loss of revenue still less than if you were to fully cover their cost? Have you considered reducing part of the grand final prize for this? 90% of the people saying "I WILL NEVER WATCH NASL AGAIN AAARRGGGHHH!" will watch anyway, i doubt they'll take a very big blow in their viewer numbers
I don't think so. NASL had a pretty poor season 1 in terms of production, professionalism, and just a poor format. The only reason I watched any of it (and I know a lot of other people) are because they had one thing no one else really had, the best players from every scene playing weekly. If you cut out the top tier of play, why is anyone going to watch poor production and a bad tournament format when they could put their time into other leagues with the same players but with better casting, format, and the same players?

Our only issue is the fact that they all: a) knew the contents of the contract, b) deliberately signed up players to qualify for the league, c) made demands, and d) waited until we already started the season to tell us that our offers to them were not acceptable. So are you going to address whether the security deposit was the true issue? We have already begun paying back all security deposits of players who are no longer in Season 2. Our contract states that all prizes will be paid within 60 days of the end of Season 1. We are still within that time frame, and will be paying all prizes within that period!
Artosis, HuK (who paid Boxer's deposit for S1), WeMadeFox, etc could all attest to the fact that we have and will pay our deposits back. That's not what I'm asking. I'm asking: do Korean teams simply not have the cash to pay their new security deposits? Because considering the $2000 you're offering for travel costs, it seems like that is the true hang up to their participation. In that case I believe an exception should be made for the Koreans and their security deposits, since they had an exemplary record of playing all games on time in Season 1. No. In that case they should've withdrawn several weeks ago already. There are several NA and EU players who showed up to all their games, what if they want an exception too? Also it is not true that Koreans played all their games.

Wow, that is messed up. NASL provided pretty much all they could, the Koreans go and qualify, and then bail out, even after a 4x increase in payment. Poor NASL, always running into terrible situations.
|
I'd like to see the Korean side of the story though.

Ya... NASL better be quick and sign up Destiny. He's the only draw they'd have left
Seriously though, you better apologize for not picking him in season 1 and making him redo his (awesome) first video.
You need him now more than he needs you.
(Not even trolling... Destiny > NASL w/o Koreans)

Does anyone have any contact information for the sc2con? I cant find anything. I really, really want to send them an email, crappy online translated and everything.

invite other koreans:
leenock coca puzzle san etc.

To those who aren't buying the season pass anymore, you are all killing esports!
Seriously though, this news makes me feel like korean players feel they deserve some special treatment. TSL3 was a huge success without any korean player in the finals. If anything, foreign pros have made much more entertaining matches than Koreans in GSL. Even, Koreans playing in foreign tournaments make more exciting games than GSL.

lol i'll probably only watch grand finals now, was hoping to see some korean on korean action happen during the regular season

I don't mind that the koreans wont be in the NASL. I think as long as their production value is good the league will be good.

I have a hard time believing that the difference between what the Koreans demanded and what NASL offered is greater than the amount of revenue NASL stands to lose by not getting a deal done. From a business standpoint, this just doesn't add up.

nasl still starting on the 30th? Plan on inviting more foreigners in to play or hosting more qualifiers?
