This situation is bizarre. I really think the root of all of this is the fact that GOM has sole exclusive rights to Starcraft 2, thus not generating enough buzz, thus lower wages and lower incentives for players. It's all a domino effect. The Korean scene just has to hold out one more year and hope the contract is not renewed. I dont think it has much to do much gom's exclusivity, korea is just not interested in SC2 much. All the people care about are BW, if people start caring about SC2 more, we see blizzard to seek out a secondary broadcast.
I think a major part of that lack of interest is cause by GOM's exclusive rights. It is far easier to just flip on the TV then having to watch it online. If MBC Game or OGN showed SC2 I am for sure the scene will explode. The WCG qualifiers will be the test of that hypothesis.

I don't think SC2 will have good rating if broadcast on tv in korea, from some of korean friends, they and the people they know just do not have as much interest in SC2 and its players, kinda like "meh, its cool i guess" Also there was an article some time back, that Gomtv is still operating at a loss for broadcasting GSL. don't quote me on that yet, will edit once i find link.

Congratz to Dignitas! I can't wait to see how all these new player acquisitions that foreign teams are making turn out in the team leagues. Can't wait to watch the next GCPL and EGMCS.

Nice! Moving to Manchester to study like a nerd baller!
Great move for Dignitas! They could use someone who's used to the Korean pro scene. Congratz!

If they watch more they might get more interested. You need exposure to draw in the masses.

Been watching this guy's stream since he set it up, and imo he is a very talented player. Think he'll become something big in Dignitas! TanDongHo fighting~
|
Good luck Tan!!!
Much like puma I'm worried now about his training regiment for such a promising player but I'll be optimistic
One of the best upcoming players IMO.

He's living in England, studying in Manchester, holy shit that's epic. Pretty huge steps for him.
I will be supporting him <3

Good luck since some tv exec to do it, taking something that is not really successful thus far and put it on a bigger stage? (and put even more money into it) I mean it completely sincerely. I really hope BW and SC2 can co-exist in korea, but so far not looking good for SC2. But I do think the fact that SC2 have blown up in the international scene, in time it will give OGN/MBC more of reason to try SC2 out, I think how the WCG qualifier (its being shown by OGN right?) perform will be very significant sign towards the success of SC2 in korea.
Also i should probably shut up, im derailing this thread. lol
