I don't think it's sad at all. Good for Puma, good for EG. I personally find it highly offensive that some coach thinks he, and not the player should be approached with job offers. Think about it, if your employer claimed that you cannot switch jobs unless a rival approaches your management about it, you'd think it was absolutely insane. Imagine a team in any sport, approaching the player only. Does that seem reasonable? In any other sport, it wouldn't be okay.

Moving up what? To the least of his abilities? Welcome to a non korean house.

Gotta wait for the official statement by EG now buddy.

That's the whole thing. If they were contacted, at least they would have a chance to match EGs offer or whatever.

I highly doubt any one of you were there when EG approached Puma and spoke with him about their offer, nor did you have any information about Puma's contract with TSL and if he even had one or what the details were of that contract. It is very possible that EG had more information on his contract, lack of one, or the details that Puma was allowed to discuss. On the flip side, lets say EG had no clue the details of the contract and approached Puma anyway and asked him if he could openly discuss business about his contract and possible one with EG, in which case he clearly said he could because here we have this deal.
Now, while it may be 'polite' to talk to a coach or manager first where on earth does it say its required? If anything this is a huge step in the right direction for players everywhere because teams are going to have to start treating players very good if the want to keep them, competition will make things better for the players.
We could even go the ethics route and say its completely possible Korean coaches don't want other teams talking to their players because "what the player doesn't know won't hurt the team". I go back to the fact that these teams are ran by a business/sponsors and they want results. If they can control the offers made to their players then they can better control the situation with them staying or leaving their team.
All this hate on EG just blows my mind. Its clear that TSL wasn't treating Puma good enough or he wouldn't have taken an offer from a foreign team who has no real pull in the Korean scene. EG just made a killer business move.
Bottom line is Puma, the player here, just did good for numero uno. Its not the fact that they purchased Puma so to speak. Its the way they did it. Behind coach, managers back, and AT A TOURNEY ! Imagine now how teams are gonna feel about sending top players to the USA to compete if they are afraid they might get them stolen ! Teams buy/trade/steal players all the time but this is just a little bit worse ! It's just business. Korean teams need to either salary their players better, of develop a stronger sense of loyalty. I'm 100% sure every single Korean who has come to a foreign tournament has been approached by multiple teams, but only one has made the switch. Why? Because the offer he received was better than what he already had. Welcome to the world.

I'm guessing PuMa was given a high salary and a flexible contract meaning he'll stay in Korea, the biggest part of the contract puma was attracted to was probably the foreign tournament sponsorship aspect and yearly salary.

Damn I feel sorry for TSL. It seems like he is trying hard to keep everyone together and training.
I also don't know how I feel about Korean players being bought out to play in foreign leagues.

competition has it's price. since there is no organization overseeing the teams, like an NFL commish, the teams can talk to the players directly and it is legal. maybe not ethical, but it sure as hell is legal. i hope puma moves to the States and gets to practice with IdrA.

you consider sports/e-sports the same as the typical corporate employer/employee? things are quite different, at least in the korean view of things. the response from the korean netizens is QUITE negative right now..
the only reason this happened was because there is not enough infrastructure set up in SC2 right now regarding player/team relations, contracts, etc.

Can't be mad at business.

This is crazy news! Manager Lee sounds so pissed. This will cause a stir. :D

So, no PuMa in GSL? God damn it.

so does that mean EG has a player in korea again? or is he moving to USA

Again, this could severely hurt the foreign and Korean partnership. Do you really think teams are going to be sending their top players to tournaments if they see international teams throwing gigantic cash at players who do well?
TSL just lost their ace player. He basically made TSL look awesome at NASL, but now he's gone and the team is punched right in the gut after losing FruitDealer and Trickster. They were doing so well in the GSTL, too.

I can't believe this is legit. THIS IS SO... I can't describe it.. Is it amazing? Is it bad because TSL is about to die.. so many mixed feelings...
|
Korean Netizens are quite outraged. Although one of them noted that "not surprising since it's Idra's team"
Oh boy.
|
that's American business culture vs Asian sensibilities for you. It's a bloody competition competition. EG did what would benefit them. TSL was caught off guard. It's a sharks' world.
|
well EG is living up to there name.... "Evil Geniuses"
|
Lost respect for puma , its one thing for lower tier players like rain or hwangsin to join foreign teams... but its totally different if a higher tier player joins foreign teams just for $$$.. Whatever happened to building teamwork.or wanting to have the highest tier of practice partners? I'll be rooting against him in every tourney he plays in..

EDIT because my paragraphing was misleading.
Huge news for e-sports recently! First, it was FXO acquiring fOU. Now this.
Ah, nothing spices things up like a bit of bad blood between EG and TSL :p
Would Puma be moving to the USA into the EG team house? How would he cope being so far away from Korea? Would being with EG help improve or worsen his skill? Would his skills help improve the skills of the EG players? So many questions!!!
