Yeah, how dare I create an account to make legit comments on an issue I find intriguing. After lurking for quite a while and playing SC2 since beta, I should definitely feel ashamed of myself for being new to posting on TL.

Really? Reallllyyyyy?
So being a BM SC2 progamer (not even the only one by a long shot) makes someone more of a celebrity than an ACTRESS who's been in several movies and a dozen TV shows and on top of which, is the manager of one of the most well known Korean proteams and is married to Boxer?

I know this is a generalisation people wont like the hear, but a lot of people on the internet are assholes or just plain stupid or stobburn or many other reasons they don't have friends and land on the internet. You just can't go suddenly change people's nature
I wonder how she'll feel if one of those names on there was actually someone mentally disabled or someone with an IQ lower than 70/80

BUT JUST BECAUSE SHE IS A GIRL - people thought she was REALLY bad. I can go on but would it matter? .. If this had been a "male", he would not have been on the GSTL team bench the moment he joined, without proving himself in the internal tournaments. The main problem is that SlayerS wanted to rush things and market themselves as a progressive team which has male and female players. Their marketing strategy is too aggressive, and now Eve has to suffer because of her premature introduction to the public E-sports scene.
Yeah I kinda agree with kochujang's post. If anything, it would be SlayerS fault for rushing things. The pro scene should distinguish itself through skill, not through looks or anything, but that is business which I have no clue on so I'll stop there. That being said, it's definitely weird how this whole Eve thing is blowing up. Even her fanclub on teamliquid was met with some criticism and I also find it quite weird that she has one prior to even having any live matches.
In any case, I think both males & females have their own respective problems and there is definitely an imbalance in treatment (an imbalance that doesn't necessarily skew to one side), but that is to be expected, especially if its the internet.
I don't really care about the morality of the issue, because there are good and bads to what Jessica is doing. Hopefully it ends well. At the very least it's a step forward against cyber bullying, and at least she's trying to show that SlayerS support their decision on bringing in Eve. She'll probably take this opportunity as a reason to prove herself even more.

I wonder how she'll feel if one of those names on there was actually someone mentally disabled or someone with an IQ lower than 70/80 Well the problem in classifying all those posts as made by those people and thinking nothing of it just serves to enable such comments both on the internet in general and here on TL. Sadly a topic like this will never get anywhere because it's only purpose is have people of different mind sets clash. Though that is besides the point... What's really saddening is seeing how popular it is to dismiss such actions and keep on walking as if nothing is wrong.

I honestly just think she is fed up with a lot of things going on in SlayerS lately and this just made her explode. Players WAY underperforming, that god awful article about Boxer, and now this whole Eve thing.

this is stupid... that fact that she is make a big deal about this is just proving that she cares about what ever one thinks, she is a pro-gamer witch in that right is EPIC!!!! she should prove ever one wrong with her gameplay not with the po po

This is gonna hurt A LOT more than its gonna help. Jessica has just single handedly split the slayers fan base in half. Whether you want to acknowledge it or not, some of the people who liked slayers, like them less now. And those that didn't care for them, now really dislike them.
From a business stand-point she over-reacted. I don't know about Korean culture or e-culture or whatever but business is business. And this is a mistake.

on a serious note it's pretty ridiculous the hateful reaction towards eve... I have to white knight for her because she is obviously really cute and it seems people dont understand that its pretty valuable to have a cute gamer girl on your team. It will attract fans / look good in advertisements. No need to go stir crazy and try and bring someone down, she obviously is a big fan of SC2 and was recruited. Slayers can do whatever they want. Do you think Cella is ridiculously professional or something? It's their team let them do as they please.

^_^ ty for liking the post lol
But you just pointed out one thing she is probably mad at, She is cute but you really think slayers got her JUST BECAUSE she is a good looking female, and mediocre sc2 player i think not.

This is all just one big giant troll by Cella, coordinating his actions through SlayerS_Jessica, recruiting a diamond level hot female as a huge troll on the SC2 community!

I just want to make sure I understand this situation properly from start to finish. Is this a correct summery?
1. Slayers Jessica sees Eve, a diamond-level Terran, and decides to recruit her into Slayers, with the idea of having her ready for GSTL after a month or two of training in the Slayers house. 2. The theory behind this was that females didn't play enough SC2 to be "worthy" of joining a team due to the perception that SC2 was a boys' club. 3. By forging a female progamer from scratch, Slayers would make female progaming look a bit less "weird", encouraging more females to try and enter. (And Slayers would have an edge in picking up any pro level females that appeared, because they could claim experience, but this is more of a "to grow esports!" and/or a publicity stunt than a ten-year plan) 4. The foreign community doesn't react too well to this. 5. But the Korean netizens are way way more vitriolic, photoshopping Eve's head into X-rated images and the like. 6. There is a history of celebrities committing suicide over this kind of thing in Korea 7. Thus, Jessica is suing the more extreme posters 8. However, she is also spending a lot of time in very public fights with the less extreme antis, confusing the issue.
Is this accurate?

She is taking it alittle too personal and cherry-picking the flames to justify the hate towards the new player Eve. It has traditionally been a seperate league between males and females, and bringing a change to this arena will cause controversy in Korea.
We will have to see how Eve performs really.

Jessica is doing 2 things:
-Feeding the trolls -Getting mad..
this will only empower more "U MAD?" posts towards her.. If I were her i'd just let my skills speak for me.

I think you can simplify it down to:
1) Someone (potentially, I guess, innocent until proven guilty) breaks law. 2) Someone uses justice system to punish them.
I don't understand how there's even any argument if it's an overreaction or not...

exactly what i said, but my dad (lol ya my dad) said when you have so many people against you it really hard to get better, flamers will explode on you if you lose a game because of something stupid its hard, you have to have the right mind set for her situation... personally all this flamers would motivate me so much more to prove them wrong, she needs to go win a GSL lolz... that would shut them up haha

I have to disagree with your dad, there are many supporters, many people who are neutral, and many people who are critical. You can ignore what you choose and push forwards, or use the hate to fuel yourself to prove people wrong, Huk himself said he does that. It isn't too difficult to power through the negativity, just prove people wrong, a reaction such as this only suggests that you want to nip things in the bud without having to actually show them that they misjudged you.
This whole fiasco has put me off, whereas I was fairly neutral towards her initially.
