If he wants to be a professional gamer he has to be professional. That's all there is to it. If he can't be than he shouldn't look for a team to pick him up or to compete professionally. I think what he is more than anything else is an entertainer. I doubt his ability will outweigh his questionable behaviour in a team's evaluation of him, so I don't see any big teams picking him up. If he were a top tier talent then teams would look past it, but there are tons of people just as good as destiny without teams, or on no name teams, that would be fine with following contractual obligations.

I'd still classify Destiny as a professional gamer. He doesn't have a job and makes all of his income through gaming. That's his profession.

There are quite a lot of teams with less obligations, and less strict contract rules regarding language on streams. But it doesn't sound like Destiny wants to be a part of that right now anyways.

Whoever wrote the OP seems to have gone slightly out of his way to shed bad light on Steven. Slightly unprofessional IMO.

Does Complexity's response seem a bit....hostile to anyone else? Considering Destiny claims the issue to be pretty simple and clear cut...

A post saying simply that Destiny signed the contract prematurely and complications arose and because of that he chose to not be a part of complexity would seem like a much better response to me.

Who signs a contract without reading it? Not the smartest guy...

You should have spoken to someone about your options, because it seems you felt that your only option was to sign the contract to help your friends. I can't imagine that coL gave you 1 day to sign or not to sign, you had to know in advance what was going on. I'm not saying that you messed up in a major way by signing the contract either; it's more the fact that you signed the contract and continued to display poor representation of coL (which I understand is just you being yourself) for days before something was done.

Why not just leave sooner or not sign at all?

Which one is it? The first bit really doesn't make sense to me, since if he didn't want to be part of coL, he wouldn't have signed in the first place. I read his response, which was basically "I didn't read the contract because I didn't have enough time," and while that's probably true, then the first part of the coL statement is essentially contradictory. Did he choose to leave because he finally re-read his contract and didn't like it, or did they part ways since they didn't like his behavior?

Right, this is what I was getting at earlier.

I'm very confused as to what "polarizing opinions being expressed on his stream" has to do with all this.

I can take the first paragraph at face value, since Destiny's reasons corroborate it, but the second paragraph seems to suddenly take an overtly authoritative and penalizing tone. I'd almost go as far as to say it goes out of its way to shine a bad light on him via his streaming personality before returning to "We wish him the best!'

I definitely read the contract, and I had time to read the contract, I just wish I would have had more time to really think about it without feeling the pressure of other people on me.

To some people, this is kind of a side thing, or an afterthought; it's just a videogame, after all. But it means a lot more to me, it's how I support my family.

I'm very, very big on how I represent myself. There's a reason I'm quick to attach my real name behind everything; there's a reason my FB/Skype/E-mail/name are public. I'm very big on my image and I'm very uncompromising when it comes to managing my image.

There's never a -good- reason to intentionally breach a contract that you've read, understood, and signed. I just gave the "why" for doing so.

Destiny's response is legit
what still leaves a question in the air is the disparity between that response and what col said in the OP.
Rather ironic really, considering the reasons listed (inc. professionality) for letting him go in the first place...

It would make sense if it read professionality alone, with that referencing that he signed the contract without actually reading it/going to conform to it
But the stream aspect? Just seems like a weird excuse from coL to justify themselves D:

Somethings fishy still.

In theory, one of the values he could be opposing could be not wanting to be a part of a big organisation..

But yeah being a Korean gamer is very imba. If you're a non-korean gamer you have to balance your game playing with earning money and your real life. If you're Korean you just sit around playing games all day eating 2 cent ramyun and becoming gosu.

That's pretty emo/melodramatic. Anti-establishment is getting old. If you don't like the establishment, help change it from the inside out. It's not like complexity gaming is a huge corporate gig anyway, gimme a break.

There's no such thing as personal when you represent a corporation. Do you think if Wolf Blitzer was a gay bashing mysogynist on Twitter and claimed it was his personal belief, that it wouldn't reflect poorly on CNN?

What I mean is he wasn't on, say, iNcontroL's stream, he wasn't on NASL, he wasn't in GSL bm'ing in chat, instead he was on HIS stream with HIS name in it, where it doesn't and hasn't even said coL. His ladder name is still ROOTDestiny, his stream says "Destiny", etc.

That's an extremely naive way of looking at things. People know Destiny is in complexity, and complexity does not want to be associated with Destinys behaviour. Out he goes.

While what you are saying is true and all, i think bigger teams should be less disturbed about what Destiny is actually saying, and more interested in how many followers he would bring to their team.

I mean he streams like literally every day, and he has ALOT of viewers, every day. The only ones that beat him viewer wise are IdrA, White-RA, and maybe HuK sometimes. That is definately worth a whole lot. Even if he's bad mannered at times, the kids who watch him are still gonna be interested in what gaming gear he uses, what sort of hardware he has, and ultimately the team's sponsors are gonna make more money.

I'm pretty sure that Destiny made the right descision, it has already been stated that he makes quite a good living from streaming and coaching alone, and on top of that i'm also pretty sure that he's gonna get offers, and with a steady income he can make the best possible descision on when/how/if to join a team.

The conclusion is that coL tried to change one of the biggest personalities in Starcraft 2, which sucks.

I like how coL is trying to spin it like they released him or didn't like because they realized, "OMG LOOK AT THIS STREAM CONTENT".

No.

Destiny decided he didn't want to be part of a crumbling, derelict organization with poor management and he made you guys drop him.

He had about 4 hours to sign it.. he had no time to look over it. Read like page 7 on his point of view of this and the pictures of the stream chat.

I think the fans of ESPORTS are confused by how sponsored organizations work, a lot of players currently are extremely lucky they're on certain teams, especially a team like complexity that has deep pockets.

But each to their own, Destiny has his own reason for conducting himself lie he did, he should find himself more opportunities in the future.

Well, congrats to Complexity from turning me from "annoyed, but mildly intrigued" by their acquisition of ROOT into "lol, what jokesters". You have Cruncher, which paints you bad as it is and now the only one left on your roster who is actually interesting is Catz. Good job.

While I am sure Destiny is probably worried about his near-term livelyhood due to lack of team/sponsors, I am sure he will find a new home sometime soon, people that will not attempt to make Destiny stop being Destiny. In the grand scheme of things, as it is now, Complexity needed Destiny a lot more than Destiny needed Complexity.
