Hi all,

Just thought id post a thread about KOTH + OBS for those who have not heard or played it before.

KOTH (King of the Hill) is simply 1v1 Winner stays on. Everyone in the lobby has the ability to simply Observe the games OR opt (by checking a box in-game) to be placed in the pool of players who "want to play", the 2 will be chosen at random initially then its winner stays on :D

The people observing the game can spectate, chat and bet there money on the winner. Strategies are always discussed as they are playing out and constructive criticism is normally given , I have learnt to much as you can chat to off-race players and see what their options are.

If you are looking to play some serious games without the stress of loosing ladder games and have fun with your fellow community members then KOTH OBS custom games are fantastic and so much fun.

I think EU server has more KOTH maps avaliable, Xel'naga, Metalopolis, Shattered, Slag pit a few more I think. I sometimes do KOTH on NA server but EU seem to more into it.

I generally start a KOTH most evening about 6:30-7:00GMT on the EU server. If anyone wants to jump in you can catch me on SelectStaR #960, or i generally throw a message in the TeamLiquid chat room (In SC2).

I am a high diamond so usually make a KOTH lobby for high Platinum/diamond/masters players, but any player can observe and if you are up for the challenge also welcome to play. Normally have 1 or 2 golds...

Cheers
SelectStaR

public ones often end up with like 7 people joining, and all leaving after they aren't picked in the first game.. thats my experience with them so far though.

i understand how beneficial it would be for a clan to practice for 3-4 hours without having to make a lobby and junk.. other than being stuck on the same map.

the problem of these koth+obs maps to me are:

1.they are not mlg/gsl version
2.very limited map pool
3.the in game timer continues to go on after every game played.

until they fix it or i really wont bother with it.

there have been a few threads on these maps in the custom maps thread. I didn't know europe had so many though. NA just has steppes, xel'naga, and metal
In theory, practice and theory are the same. In practice, they are not

Don't forget the iccjug maps! I think they're better than the ones made by slime anyhow.

theres even a tal darim altar one now. i've had quite a few great games on these though sometimes you get too many people who just want to watch and not play. there seem to have been fewer lately though for some reason but anyway i'll probs join in sometimes

When you just jump into a KOTH lobby which is open to public, I find people leave if they are not picked first... But in the Private invite only ones, I never get anyone leave immediately after the first two players are picked... Guess these are players are actually up for a long session.

I could see it being great for Clans

This sounds great. I wish the game timer thing would be fixed though.

Great for clans, but UI is very unfriendly for observers.

agreed, but I really think its not too bad, and still can get a load of great knowledge just by watching and chatting

have they fixed so that the observers can see the productions tab? Otherwise i find these maps completley non viable. Gotten so used to production tab's to keep a good check on whats going on in the game.

Hatch is out before game starts for players so I'm always a larva behind. Plus they lag, I'd rather just practice on mlg maps and remake every game.

Yeah I'm a gold nub and I play them all the time with ma diamond buddies because I hate my self, and they are ao much fun, even better when your all on skype together lol

But yeah the map pool sucks for them and on alot of them have really poor obs tools.. I'd love it if blizzard would support it as a type of match up though !!

if the maps were fixed so that you could view as a normal spectator with the same functions as a replay (and maybe make the overlay a drop-down box or something a little less obtuse) then i'm sure they'd be more popular.

I'm a fan of them, but more MLG/ESL maps required.
