Just to clear things up. I translate everything that relates to the MLG Columbus. Positive AND Negative. The only things I skip are ones that contribute nothing such as....
"Your spelling is wrong......"
"What time is this on? Where are you watching it?"
"This is the real global tournament. Not the GSL...."
"It would be awesome to broadcast this! Where do we watch it? GomTV?
Few comments about the OP not posting the scores correctly...
"This is great.. Finally international!"
"Wow.. OB disconnected.."
"Do they not show games besides the one from the main stage?"
"The caster isn't that great... Do the foreigners agree?'
"Woww. This is really global!"
"How can they say re-game.... he blocked the cannon rush!"
"LoisRa had keyboard problems so he got a new one"
"This is what you call a real global league. GomTV should really learn from this. Although it's held in USA. There are many players from Europe attending. Even if USA is closer than Korea. GSL's Global league is all just a slogan while this is the real deal"
"When I watch the GSL and see the disconnect box I get annoyed but in MLG not so much... Weird..."
"I can't tell the matches since I can't watch many games but this is the real global league.. USA/Canada/Sweden/Germany/Netherlands/Korea"
"Loisra is having problem after typing pp, Is it the langauge barrier or miscommunication but what kind of hosting is this?'
"Looking at LoisRa's reaction I think it's due to his keyboard. He seems real mad. But the real deal is MMA! He's doing real well"
"The GSL using G as Global is like LG saying LG stands for Life's good" [LOLOLOLOL}
"Didn't he bring the keyboard from Korea? What about the other one? did that break as well?"
"MMA improved so much! I hope he wins!"
"Win MMA!"
"There seems to be such a long delay between matches making me lose interest. They just show the audience... In Korea they just try to get matches going ASAP so I like watching the GSL a lot more. Hurry with the next game! (Maybe it's due to the keyboard problem?"
"GomTV should host tournaments like this..."
"Third Keyboard is the charm!"
"I'm jealous of the foreigners watching it live. ALthough 3 days seems to be a little bit over the top. I wish GomTV would broadcast this.."
"Greg is being good mannered?"
"He says "he's good and it's an honor to play him""
"He said "It's an honor to play a great player like you last" Reading TL and worrying Koreans might take it the wrong way!"
"MC isn't doing well. Can only trust MMA!"
"Haha being good mannered. It's nice to see foreigners be well mannered like this sometimes"
"Without a doubt Artosis and Tasteless are the best"
"How many games are being played at once?"
"How can toss president lose to Idra..."
"MMA beat SJow 2:1"
"MC..."
"GO MMA!"
"Where is July? I don't see him"
"MMA, IDRA Win win win"
"JUly is in Open Bracket!"
"Woah July isn't seeded?"
"Did MMA really beat SJOW 2:1?
"Yes he did!"
"Alright MMA beat Greg Fields!!!"
"Wow this is fun!"
"Are they rebroadcasting this anywhere?"
"July got 4 wins in 4 games in under 25 minutes..."
"Who's zergs better? Korean or Foreign?"
"Wow Idra is rolling"
"Wow no ending to Select's downfall"
"July made it to Ro8!"
"I thought Idra would get embarassed and lose 0:2 to MC. I guess he had more focus than MC and his Macro was outstanding! Idra is improving and Koreans should watch him carefully"
"This is Royal Global league!
"I thought Idra was way worse than Loisra but seems like they're at least equal. Idra's macro is just unbelievable!"
Day 2
"July:Agh 2:0 :D"
"Marcus Sebastian Eklöf/ThorZaIN 2 : 1 Erik Kim/xSixShadow"
"July congrats on your pool play! Now win it all!"
"Incontrol vs Major...is wow.."
"After watching this... We can no longer talk back to the foreigners who say their are better international tournaments than GSL"
"July is going to make a lot of fans. He's play style is very entertaining. I wanna watch July vs MMA"
"Wow MMA must be shocked. Going 2 drops but wiping out the main"
"Wow July hasn't lost yet. I really wanna watch MMA vs July"
"MMA is just rolling. Sheth is a good player too but he has no answers"
"July..."
"Koreans from America are winless"
"Wowww.. July why are you so good?"
"Select used to be the top 3 terran player but now he's slumped so hard. Been playing too many 4vs4s"
"Thorzain vs MC rematch!"
"MMA is just unbelievable"
"Moon is not doing so bad also! Go MOon!"
"What's with the stream? FuuuuuuuuuuuuuucK"
"So what's happening to MC? What's with all this lag..."
"What the fuck.. I been staying up all night for this...."
"MC and July are 1:0 in their games right now"
"Apparently they'll fix it after this game"
"July lost T_T"
"MC just insulted Idra"
"July won!"
"MC's interviews aren't the same anymore but his confidence with speaking english is the same"
"Idra is gonna bm again like by saying "fucking kimchiman"" [LOLLOLOLOLOL]
"Just wondering did Idra ever use the term "fuckign kimchiman?" [Again LOLOLOL]
"Terran players in this tournament T_T"
"Wow so many games..."
"Keep it up MC general!"
"Where's China?"
"MC eventually lost.. Shoot"
"He lost..."
"MC if you cameback from that game changer.. It would have been epic..."
"Korean vs Korean.. Bunker rushing is the usual!"
"MC!"
"Wow. MMA vs July"
"MMA drops! Seems like he owns the map"
"Idra loses to thorzain
Idra > MC MC > Thorzain Thorzain > Idra
Rock Paper Scissors complete!"
"Haha! Toss is weak against Zerg Zerg is weak against terran Terran is weak against toss Seems about right!"
"Idra after beating MC - MC was a major hurdle and after beating him nothing can stop me MC after losing to Idra - I wasn't in a great condition I'll beat him next time Thorzain after beating Idra - It was nothing significant. I felt Idra didn't try his hardest
OBviously in terms of interview. MC > Idra > Thorzain"
"MMA wins again!"
"The real thing starts tomorrow! So excited!"
Day 3
"All nighter!"
"Looks fun... Probably go all night"
"To stay up all night or wake up at 8 AM and watch the finals"
"What will you do if you wake up at 9 and regret it"
"Seems like the top 3 players get entry to CODE A"
"Doesn't the winnder get Code S"
"Seems like we can't watch it in the morning. Gotta stay up all night!?"
"July get to the finals and win! Tushin Fighting!"
"MMA you should give people the taste of your cheese hahahha"
"Seems like it'll be an all nighter"
"Doing an all nighter.. My first..."
"Praying that Moon wins it all! Moon Fighting!"
"I hear the MC MC chanting!"
"Cruncher had to win every game since round 1 and now he's in round 4. How many games did he win? haha"
"What's with the lag?"
"Wow at Loisra's hydra wave"
""Wow Losira"
"Hydra danger!"
"All Loisra needs are Hydras and Zerglings"
"Loisra seems different lol. If they can knock out Idra koreans can get 1,2,3"
"Poor Naniwa all he could do was defend till he lost"
"Loisra is so awesome"
"MMA Fightign"
"I have to stay awake..."
"MLG has a great system for people to get revenge"
"How did he destroy his CC?"
"Did he type gg?"
"Seems like he made a mistake and thought he was destroying the rocks"
"AHAHHAHAHAHAHHA I'm about to die hahahahhahahahha"
"IS this real? Idra GG'ed?
"How did MMA win? lol Idra ran out of resources?"
"A game MMA lost, Idra just leaves"
"Idra epic"
"What happened in that game? Can someone explain?"
"He types gg so cooly... Wtheck?"
"What the fuck?"
"Casters got nothing to say"
"Did MMA drop something that destroyed everything while the battle was happening?"
"Did he expect MMA's win and just gg?"
"lololol why did he gg?"
"????"
"What the fuck is this lol?"
"They're showing it again"
"watching the replay he shouldn't have said GG.. What is this?"
"While watching this even the casters got nothing to say."
"Wow Idra, did he had to take a shit?"
"I thought Idra had this game easily won.. Can't understand..."
"Was there a big difference in resources?"
"did he think all his mutas died?"
"Why did he type gg?"
"Did he meant to type pp but accidentally gg'ed?"
"Idra had to really go take a shit and couldn't hold it so he typed gg"
"Idra who can see 20 moves ahead knew he was gonna lose so he gg'ed??!!!"
"I think Idra thought MMA had gold expansion and had units. Therefore MMA would use dropships and he didn't want to deal with it so he gg'ed"
"The reason is Idra had to take a shit. He held it in for a long time and when he say MMA with an expansion he said fuck this. (If he kept playing he would shit his pants"
"It ended so easily"
"Idra had to take a shit and couldn't go the bathroom during the break so he gg's like a cool guy"
"Seems like Idra will be in a big rage mode. Even a ceremony.. He must be pissed T_T"
"Someone rigged this game.. Putting laxatives in Idra's drink"
"Wow Idra needs to defend better in the beginning. Korean zergs can defend so easily"
"Oh yeah~ MMA win!"
"Good good, Very good lolol"
"1,2,3,4 can all be charged by korean at this rate"
"I hope he learn to be positive LOLOLOLOL"
"MMA with a sharp criticism.
So awesome"
"Be Positive!!!"
"hahah be positive hahha"
"Idra needs to learn to be more positive when holding his shit in. Just kidding lol MMA Fighting!"
"Go July!"
"Is Greg cool or not positive?"
"Go Moon"
"Wow Moon just beat July 2:0. So epic!"
"Even though moon lost to MC and is in COde A. He can get into Code S and show his skill!"
"If this happens the top 3 foreigners will be slush, idra, naniwa. Naniwa said he wanted to go to Korea so he would come but I don't know about idra.
"Seems Naniwa is coming to Korea"
"I don't know about Slush but Idra left Code S so he wouldn't come back for Code A"
"Moon really showed off his skills in this tournament! Keep doing well MooN!"
"Idra said he wouldn't come back even if he got COde S"
"Go MC!"
"MC beat Idra!"
"Idra is really cool!"
"MC won another one. Idra is getting rolled"
"Wow this is brutal"
"They're even again"
"Wow it's quickly become 2:2"
"He's a real cool guy"
"MC lost -___-"
"MC hwaiting!"
"Wow there are so many games I'm confused. One has to win 4 games while another has to win 2 games. It's hard to follow since I didn't watch from the beginning"
"Seems like MC will lose this..."
"Idra is getting killed"
"Wow Idra... You're not looking so well"
"MC just activated his crazy mode"
"The MMA vs Idra match is frustrating. Losing the first game when he had it and the 2nd game if only if he built the evolution chamber.."
"But how did Idra get awarded 2 games? I just srated so this is confusing.."
"It's because Idra 2:0's MC previously. So when they rematch his previous wins carry over"
"Cheeese?"
"Seems like Idra doesn't want to play.."
"Hahah they're chatting so freely. So funny"
"LOL"
"The chat is so funny lol"
"MC: Angry? Idra; Nah, I'm not angry? Zerg can never win against toss
Can't understand Grack's mind"
"Drama instead of the game"
"MC, you're really a bonjwa"
"This is epic. The games are epic but the drama is even more epic"
"HAHAHHAA Can't believe Idra lost that. Even a Bronze can win that game... MC 2nd Loisra 3rd MMA 1st. That's my hope!"
"This is so fun worth staying up for. MC is the best"
"hahahhahaha this is so funny. MC cracks me up hahaha. I hope the Americans don't think that all the koreans look like MC." [HAHAHAH]
"Same with Loisra"
"Now it's guaranteed koreans are 1st and 2nd. How do you decide 3rd?"
"Wow I can't believe I stayed up all night.... But I'm not sleeping since the game's starting"
"I'm really sure now. This is 100 times more entertaining than the GSL. But there are so many games... Can't MLG divide the games like GSL?"
"At least the finals won't be the same race"
"I wonder what MLG Seoul would be like"
"Wow MC really plays to entertain."
"Although Loisra and MMA are good. I think MC will win it"
Some discussions about the death of Starcraft 1 lol
"Seems like Loisra will with the MLG. Why can't he play like this in Korea though?
"Since there are many great players in Korea"
"Wow MMA lost."
"Wow they should nerf the koreans"
"So tired.. can't stay awake..."
"Haha Koreans got 1st 2nd and 3rd place"
"But the foreign players aren't that bad. I bet Idra and Naniwa can win Code S. Morrow can also be really good if he improves his play against toss"
"They should nerf the koreans.."
"MMA is a monster"
"You have to beat MMA early game or you lose"
"Wow MMA is a dropship god.. Like Boxer"
"Wow if you get to mid game MMA becomes God"
"How does he fly them like that? Even if you know it's coming you can't block it"
"MMA is Code A?? WTF?"
"I think MC will win 2:1 but if Loisra wins it goes to BO7"
"In the end it's korean tournament"
"MC seems like he's more popular than MMA and Loisra in America"
"MC won the code S way before MMA and Loisra even made it. He also got popular due to storlok. Loisra and MMA will get famous enough soon"
"MC is scary"
"Seems like MC, Loisra, MMA all improved within these 3 days. Especially MMA's reaction time got faster and MC's defense..."
"I don't think any foreigners would come just for Code A spot.. Naniwa just come to Code A pleaseee"
"Seems like JInro will leave Korea... Give his spot to Naniwa"
"Jinro is also Code A.. Just bring Thorzain"
"If Thorzain comes it's awesome for Code A. Greg won't come back to GSL so give MMA Code S. Naniwa and thorzain can get Code A and the next GSL will be epic"
"Uh oh Burrow..."
"So that is how you play zerg"
"Wow Loisra is good"
"Now it's Burrow vs Drop"
"MMA please win and get Code S"
"Epic"
"Wow MMA is incredible"
"Even if you know it's coming you still can't stop MMA's dropship.."
"Wow MMA... Seems like Boxer taught him well"
"It's obviously Slayer players are great with bunkering and dropships"
"MMA won"
"MMA cheated"
"GO MMA"
"Does this mean MMA got code S?
"I don't know if it's because of Koreans vs the World or the games or the observers but this is 100 times better than the GSL. Great day for MMA. Great day for Korea!"
"What's with Idra? losing a game he had"
"They're not giving Code S this MLG. They're only giving 3 CODE a spots"
I am happy (proud) to see how Korea is much more appreciative of foreigner's performance than it seems vice versa. Also a lot of positive responses to the "global" nature of MLG even though this tournament isn't on their home turf. Proud of the korea netizens
Your Korean netizen reaction threads are always one of the highlights of any tournament you do them for. Thanks a lot for this, I can't wait for the next batch.
Well to be fair though if someone made a post on a korean board like "GSL Finals International Netizen Reactions" it could look like the international fanbase is the nicest most mannered audience or the biggest douchebags in the entire world.

that quote mean? that Koreans might take it wrong that (i believe incontrol) was honored to play against a Korean?
I think the guy is saying that he was reading TL, where people were worrying that the Losira might think inControl was bming him, so he was just translating what he said.

Some people on TL were worried that since a lot of koreans (probably including losira) don't understand English very well, they might think that what incontrol typed was bm.
I agree! MLG has generated more hype than the recent GSLs and also produced a lot more high quality games: not to mention I do not have to wake up so early in the morning just to watch a terrible quality stream!
Thanks for the translations of the comments. Of of the translations commented about the "waiting for player" screen and how it seems more annoying in the GSL than MLG, and it's funny because I feel the opposite, that it annoys me more in MLG than GSL. Dunno why that is though, weird.
This is what e-sports needs. Foreigners shouldn't just be included in tournaments, they have to win the respect of the the other players and fans. MLG is showing that players from all around the world can compete on the same stage. Being outside of Korea helps a lot, when the GSL:WC took place I felt most people were being bias but now people are seeing foreigners really take some pride in their players. Also I think the Koreans like that fact that they have a few players in another country to represent them rather than having 99% of the players be Korean.
It's nice to see that the koreans appreciate this even though there has been some technical difficulties with LosirA etc... I don't think we foreigners appreciate MLG enough tbh...
Koreans really like this it seems, although that complain about downtime between games is kind of valid imo. But with the way MLG is set up, I can imagine that it isn't that easy.

Yeah, GSL has multiple booths to set up players in. I think that's just 1 random comment though. Considering the amount of downtime between Brood War games I can't imagine most Koreans complaining that much about it. I could be wrong though.
I'm curious if there was much talk by the Koreans over the issue of lag, it seemed from the sample of posts translated that it wasn't as big a deal over there as I would have imagined. At any rate is always a joy to see what ye olde Koreans think of our little tournaments (seemed to be suprisingly positive all around).

Depends on which comments you pick ^^
Cannot say anything other than agree.
I think Siz.Fantasy stated in a previous "Korean Netizen Reactions" thread (maybe for TSL) that he tries to translate everything worth translating and only leaves out uninteresting stuff like "When does the match start?"

It's kind of sad that the Ukrainian players arn't there. Dimaga, Kas and Whitera especially are quite good and could probably go toe to toe to the best Koreans.
Many koreans have open their eyes on the scene outside of Korea since MC have been playing in foreigner tournaments + the TSL but many people only whine on lag and delay then ^^
And since Dreamhack have half the invites in koreans many will watch DH games and they will like it even more because Dreamhack seems to always provide great showcasting with free HD aswell. But this is nothing strange, there is nothing in Korea except GSL and GSTL while there is so much happening in foreigner scene and koreans get invites and the chance to play all kind of foreigners that they don't in GSL and many people are curious on foreigner skill and after korea vs world thing many people saw that some foreigner can play good, even if team world could have send much better players if I know foreigner scene right. But there was event at that time or something, no?
On June 05 2011 12:26 Termit wrote: ....even if team world could have send much better players if I know foreigner scene right. But there was event at that time or something, no?
It was a combination of MLG Dallas, Stermy's tournament in Italy, somewhat short notice/prep time, and maybe even the qualification system itself (because the best player does not always win).
I personally think the World team was decent representation of foreigners. Sure, they weren't the absolute best players and the lineup was zerg heavy at a time when zergs were getting their shit pushed in by protoss but it wasn't like the World team's lineup was filled out with a bunch of nobodies. They were all, at the very least, decent.

Is it wrong that when I read your post I thought "lol TT1 got knocked out by some no-name".
They were decent, but they were also mostly zerg before the infestor patch, loll.
I'm looking forward to seeing some comments about MC's improving play and him calling out Idra. Also good to see MMA is popular over there since I love that dude.
I think the staff should start considering SiZ for a position on their SC2 translator pool; his work in bringing us what the Koreans think in the SC2 scene has been exemplary. He deserves the recognition as much as anyone else who as also done the same for BW. Keep it up!

Well I think since Koreans get a limited glimpse of foreigners (mostly from GSL I'm guessing), and since IdrA was a major figure in Korea for awhile, maybe they think foreigners are bm because of that. Iunno though.

Dimaga yes, Whitera and Kas NO. Whitera got manhandled by bomber, lost 2-8. Kas got completely rolled by MC, lost 0-4. Dimaga stands a chance, as he beat both nestea and mvp.

GSL's idea of Global is Korea vs the World. MLG is a brutal team-killing free for all with so many countries represented.

This is honestly very well said and describes/summarizes both great, I haven't seen anyone in the GSL go on a rage and smash keyboards

And Kas played horribly in the games against MC. He has a tendency to play bad when it really matters probably problems with his nerves. Just look at his games against ThorZain and MC and compare them to his usual games.

and like i said in last mlg thread, its just not worth for them, visa problems + lots of money to travel to USA, just to have a small chance to place in MAYBE top5? they will just keep practising for dreamhack

After that Dimaga got manhandled by San and Whitera won MC so what's your point? That they win and lose against koreans? I would say that's pretty ok.
Last time they met MC destroyed IdrA, things change.
Surprised OP still hasn't been given a star, he's been translating stuff from the gsl, tsl etc for quite a while, definitively think he deserves it.
I mean the TSL3 korean reactions thread where he translated pretty much everything has over 165k views, if that isn't contributing I don't know what is.
Really like to read that the Koreans are as excited as us to see a truly global tournament. Also tells a lot on how they perceive GSL and that they are quite aware of the fact that it is a bit isolated.
Thanks for the day2 translations! Love seeing their reactions and acknowledgment of MLG being amazing
Hopefully foreigners will train super hard for next MLG and win more games of koreans! Though most lost to the koreans, a lot of games were quite close

You base your opinions off one game? Kas is a beast, I would rate him at a similar level to Naniwa. He was just nervous in the game vrs MC but he is an amazing player. I wish a team with awesome support like EG, Dignitas or TL would sign him so he could showcase his talent then people could see his talent. If i were to pick one (and they are all very good) it would be Kas from those three.
I've been looking around in playxp for a bit and I'm suprised at how remarkably few replies there are compared to teamliquid. Most of their forum threads are unreplied and all that stuff that Fantasy is translating is pretty much a comments section to playxp's MLG coverage.
Does anyone know if that's just the way korean starcraft fans are? I'm just suprised at the seemingly lack of conversation.

Most of Korean forums are like a half-chatting style, not using threads at all.

Dimaga yes, Whitera and Kas NO. Whitera got manhandled by bomber, lost 2-8. Kas got completely rolled by MC, lost 0-4. Dimaga stands a chance, as he beat both nestea and mvp.
I don't know how strong White-Ra and Dimaga really are at the moment. Didn't see them much lately. Looking at their TLPD stats I don't see any great wins in the past month but rather a lot of losses against lesser known players. Kas on the other hand is top5 EU and just because he lost once to MC in a LAN final where he tends to get very nervous doesn't mean he couldn't do well against Koreans. If that was true, probably nobody from EU could do well against Koreans (which might be true tho^^).
When talking about Ukraine people tend to forget about Strelok, he is pretty good
It's nice to see that MLG is garnering attention outside of the west, I really hope that this trend continues... maybe MLG could hire some korean casters to try to appeal to the korean crowd? I think that'd be a good venture for them.

They must not like the western casting style. Korean casting is uh

We don't have anything like "PLAYGUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU IAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA"
also I realize that's yelling too, but it's just so.. passionate. And I love tastosis/day9/wolf with all my heart so don't hate.
Unfortunately, I think that people who like these things are niche I think most people like the current casting styles better (at least, in the west). That's why I suggested for MLG to pick up some korean commentators!

Uhhh, Artosis + Tasteless don't have emotion???
I'd prefer actual game knowledge over senseless yelling, though with them I get both(guess someone hasnt watched the bit by bit or baneling videos/live).

I would not be surprised if the Korean e-Sports community starts following more live events like MLG and Dreamhack, and if more Korean players don't start demanding to go to these events.
I feel that the Korean players really enjoyed the atmosphere at MLG with the fans cheering and the freedom to celebrate on stage.
I'm patiently waiting for possible posts regarding cheer chanting. All we need now are screaming fan girls whenever something like a psi storm goes off.
Haha, the Koreans just as confused about Idra's mind as we were, though it's apparent that many were cheering for MC so there wasn't as much QQ when Idra threw his games away (or so it seems).
Also, LOL at someone digging up the MMA ceremony .gif finding its way on the Korean forums.
Funny reactions in the 3rd day. It's confusing though because they don't seem to be in chronological order. Or maybe I just have the day's events confused.
Haha, those are all so awesome. LOVE how much it sounds like our own live thread. (remarkably so in terms of the code A/S spots especially). Kinda wish we had more of the "idra WTF" comments, but I guess they'd be basically the same as what we said.
Also hilarious that the Kamehameha with the graphic got to them so fast (it started on team liquid for sure).
"If Thorzain comes it's awesome for Code A. Greg won't come back to GSL so give MMA Code S. Naniwa and thorzain can get Code A and the next GSL will be epic"
i agree with this and the MLG Seoul comments. do Koreans play Halo?
It seems like there is a rule with Korean netizen reactions. Even if Morrow is not at the event, or he's there but none of his games are streamed, the Koreans will still call for him to come to Korea and comment on his potential.

He does seem to be a bit of a fan-favourite over there, for some reason. That very much also goes for Thorzain, and now apparently Naniwa. It's obviously already the case for Jinro. Do Koreans have a thing for Swedes/Scandinavians?

We must send them ActionJesus at once!
wooooh slow down there buddy. sending ActionJesuz to korea would cause massive metagame shift. the koreans wont know what hit em next GSL world tourney when they send in actionjesuz as a secret weapon
Wow korean netizens seem really awesome and open. It was awesome seeing koreans come and play here in the USA, I got to shake hands with MMA in the food court :D

I think it because in one of the Brood War televised match, (Shine?) had to take a dump so he rush the game and won.

always fun to read korean reactions to foreign tourney's. hopefully mlg will put up a video showing all of the spectators at mlg columbus. july, mc and mma all received standing ovations...we really put every gsl to shame. during semis and finals, every person you saw in-between games were watching starcraft 2 on all five screens in the convention center.
i have autographs from mc, mma, july, moon and losira...on my forearms! i didn't have anything else, so i said "here, sign this"...made them all laugh (especially mma, lol). :p

Do you have a picture of this? At least that way it's permanent.
One of the Koreans was wondering about mlg seoul, and I can only imagine it would be incredibly lame-- hardly anyone would do anything more than politely clap. Fandom in sports (and now e-sports) is a cornerstone of American culture, but the hyper-manner of the Koreans would get in the way of the excitement of the matches.

If you have never seen the Korean fans cheering and using clapsticks while waving flags and cheerfuls in BW tourneys, you should not be qualified in calling them "lame".

Not very different to what you see in mlg..if you have good games, you'll get a good reaction.
And awesome work again fantasy! love these, sounds like they really enjoyed themselves.
Haha, many of the Koreans not used to staying up late to watch SC tournaments, unlike us super-fans in North America who have to put up with GSL's late hours.
i think day 9 had the best line of all "...and idra crushes through those marines, expect him to gg at any minute". hahahahahha! runner up would be the crowd booing tasteless after he made a lame pun in one of vibe's games (...i have a vibe that..." followed by a nice long BOOOOOO!). artosis was laughing so hard "i can't believe they booed you!" i almost died, LOL!
oh and im surprised that all the koreans seem to like the international competition that mlg has and criticizing the gsl for not being more like that. thx for the translating this was insightful and amusing.
if MLG was made to broadcast everywhere and easily, then it will easily outgrow GSL. just downloaded a few VODs and they're really impressive and entertaining.

Yeah Koreans really don't know how to get passionate over a sport.
Sick of the Asian stereotypes that is so pervasive in America.
MLG Seoul would be awesome. A full weekend with the best of the koreans and some foreigers thrown there, but it should have more and MLG feel than a GSL feel.
Problem with GSL is that is a bit elitist with the soup opera looking to scripted. Players cant talk during game, hardly any BM and mostly in interviews (except GSTL) while in MLG the reactions seems much more expontaneous

Hmmm something MLG should look into... hint hint. Isn't this their end goal though? Didn't they partner with IEM and GSL for that reason?
when korean viewers want naniwa and thorzain, then it's time for naniwa and thorzain to go! The korean fandom for these two is pretty epic. <3 Korean support for foreigners

Not really, 3 days every 2 months or whatever plus a relatively small prize pool. July rolled through so many BoX and didn't even come out with anything. It was great to watch of course but they really are two completely different tournaments. They'd need to broadcast it in Korean/Chinese too and whatnot. A lot of things would have to change.

BTW After the IMG & MLG partnership Sundance was posting alot on his facebook about MLG having events around the world including Seoul South Korea. Sundance had to delete his Facebook after too much spam, But man I'm so stoked for the next MLG announcement and their plans for world expansion!
"I don't know if it's because of Koreans vs the World or the games or the observers but this is 100 times better than the GSL. Great day for MMA. Great day for Korea!"
Double elim will always make the end of the tourney way better, or else you get shit like Nestea vs Inca

It would be interesting to see an MLG Seoul considering that I doubt Halo and CoD are popular over there in Korea. An MLG Seoul would need to adopt other games if it is to be successful, since I doubt many Koreans will be attracted to Halo, which has been one of MLG's core games for forever.

Maybe broodwar and starcraft 2 next too eachother? that seems very reasonable. I dunno if the BW guys are actually intrested in that, but it would be really really amazing.
I love the day 3 comments, they were all as baffled about IdrA's games as we were.
It seems the Koreans feel the same hype about these events that we do. MLG got a bright future ahead of them and I think it's great to involve Korea in it as much as possible.

Thanks so much for translating these. And also the other occasions where you translated. I love sitting back, reading the comments, laughing, smiling. It's a lot of fun, thanks for making it possible for us to enjoy it! kamsahamnida!
Honestly though, I doubt MLG Seoul would be a success. Koreans like their tournaments to be fun in a certain way and have certain expectations from years of live BW events. I think the cultural difference would be too much for a foreign company to run a successful tournament. It would be awesome if they could do it, but it would be a huge challenge.
LMAO I actually laugh at all the "idra taking a shit" quotes... man classic, Also this thread feels like a troll bait, even though its not.. waiting for a bad comment about a non korean so they can latch onto them like a piece of poo. Too bad koreans seems alot more friendly and less trolling going on.

Ditto. Im interested to see what they had to say about the foreign community's entusiasm, me myself got some serious nerd chills. I love the respect that was shown even though a foreigner didn't win.

it's cool that this was the first MLG that a large part of the korean community tuned in to watch because imo it was BY FAR the best MLG and has improved so immensely in so many ways to previous ones. i'm glad they liked it cuz i loved it :D

But you need fangirls for that. I'm not sure if SC2 has enough yet.
MKP already has groupies. I believe IdrA, Huk, and Destiny do as well. Nada is always a lady pleaser too. July... can always please the sean plotts of the world

An MLG-Starcraft 2 specific event in Seoul would be AMAZING. Like a true partnership where they do a tournament over the course of a few days. That... would be so awesome....
An MLG in korea would also have the foreigners sold too. One of the primary reasons they don't go over to Korea is because of the long term commitment to the GSL, you basically have to stay in Korea for a whole month, wherein an MLG is only a few days so you have people from Europe commiting to it. If they had a 3 day tournament in Seoul korea, let's just say it would be incredibly successful. I'd be down to make a trip out of it: see a foreign country + foreign tournament in a small amount of days.... nerd chills

Select's been playing 4v4s?
"Where's China?"
Only major SC2 nation left out of MLG Columbus, I hope they get a chinese delegation to MLG Anaheim, would be a huge help in the 'globalization' of the tournament, something the koreans, and us, love.

"But the foreign players aren't that bad. I bet Idra and Naniwa can win Code S. Morrow can also be really good if he improves his play against toss"
I'm alos really excited about how much the koreans are getting into the foreign scene, and about how much they understand about the players. I think in the next TSL foreigners wil have a much harder time hiding their practice.

Well video games and RTS games like BW and SC2 in particular don't have many female fans in the West. In Asia, females are far more receptive to video games and it's only natural that SC2 players can become idols there, whereas in the West, there isn't a large enough proportion of fans who aren't male students with too much time behind the computer (of which I'm one ).
That was actually really nice. They respect some of our players, (Thorzain and Naniwa) and also admitted how much better finals it was than the GSL finals. They are pretty much the same as us, just normal starcraft fans.

It's not like these are reactions of the players or people in the know. Just random kids on playxp.
GSL is the global starcraft league because it has the best players in the globe. Having people from many nations is not a requirement especially if they are all worse than your code a players.
