My ladder fear mainly comes from the fact that I'm masters, and if I get demoted its really annoying climbing back up. As a result I'm really reluctant to try new strategies and build orders that differ to heavily from what I usually do for fear of tanking my ladder rating. I started experimenting with ling / bling / infestor last season vs Protoss and dropped down to diamond lol. Also, it makes it almost impossible to ladder with an offrace because you're obviously going to get destroyed yea, ladder reset is privotal to getting some people playing again simply because once they have reached a certain level with one race they wish to do the others but get stomped.

I used to get nervous, but then I just decided to play, that's all. And no I don't think ladder fear could affect SC2 at all, tons of ppl are playing ladder all the time.

Games with high skillcaps are intimidating. Everyone in this thread implying otherwise needs to stop and think about what they're saying from the realistic perspective that they are a huge minority in the world. And even a huge minority among video game enthusiasts. It could also be that the game was not appealing enough to some players. I know people who played zerg during the reaper era and just flat out quit because they felt what each race had to offer was not something they wanted to play.

Best solution would probably be to offer 1 ladder reset per season or something (we had ladder resets every 2 weeks on iCCup back in BW =_=) I don't see how that would help either. With Leagues and Divisions in Starcraft 2, you really can't tank your rating. Seems like as long as you keep your bonus pool empty, you'll at least break even. It's not a fear of ruining your rating, just a fear of losing period. It's just an anxiety that will exist with any top tier competitive game. The only concrete way to lessen the anxiety a game like Starcraft creates, would also make it a worse game. It's just something each person has to figure out how to overcome themselves. I still battle with it myself. Once I get through the first or second ladder game of the day I'm completely over it, but getting myself to sign on to begin with is the hard part. But also for me, it's not really fear most of the time. Sometimes its also laziness. I don't know about most of you, but to me SC2 is an intense game. I get worked up when I play. In some great matchups I'll work up a sweat or find my hands are shaking after my opponent calls the GG. So quite often after a long day at work, I'll come home and just not feel like laddering because I'm already exhausted. It's like I need to hit the gym more to keep up with this computer game, kinda ironic. In the end, I think these feelings about laddering also show just how great an e-sport Starcraft is.

Story of my life, all I do is watch it cos I'm too scared to play lol. I'm watching starcraft for 5+ hours per day on average but pretty much never play it ![]()

I guess is just the initial fear. Anyone else feel the same? That's pretty much how mine goes too. However I do with you could make your profile private, or choose who you let see your match history. I have way to many people who troll my profile to call me out on losses.. it gets old.

I'm in gold league, and tbh, it gets boring having games go for barely 10 mins every game. I've turned into a "streamcrafter," all I do is watch other people play SC2, I rarely actually play anymore. From my experience you can just all in your way to diamond, then people will start playing with macro builds.
