If Blizzard would just fix the custom game system, this problem would be gone. When Terran players start giving me trouble for example, I'd LOVE to go in the custom game menu, filter only for Terrans and play a bunch of games. Why in God's name can't we do this? WHY?!?? I know you can develop a network of practice partners for this, but some of us don't have the time or energy to coordinate that. Just fix the custom games, Blizzard, please!! Are they afraid people will stop laddering and only use custom games?? Or what? I just don't understand....

In sc2 you are being punished hard for your mistakes which feels terrible to be honest. So yes, ladder is not important in any ways, you won't get any money and people won't care unless you win some tournaments. But the all or nothing nature of the game makes it intense to play and I can understand why many find that a challenge. The solution of course is just to play a lot and focus on the repetitive side of the game (build orders, having a high apm etc.).

the real problem with sc2 ladder is that generic strategies like 4 gate are ruining ladder, as a casual player its just a waste of time being forced to do the same lame shit every game because blizzard decided to ruin sc2 by hardcountering everything innovative and fun with 4 gate/ling roach all in and 3 rax

People are so immature they can't even look their losses in the face and now only masters players even see their loss count, it's pathetic.

also i think this "fear" when it exist is more for the "lower players" and blizzard did it nice with not showing loses below master anymore what i know is not "ladder fear" just "loosing fear" and u cant solve that with any resulution ![]() for me i think the players fear are way to bad to should and should take it as a hobby and not care much about ranks cause they (as i said earlier) are really bad, the good ones of course they say "to bad 1 lose and i drop win ratio from 20 games" like demuslim always says BUT they play neverless that knowledge

Laddering is still nerve wracking, but at least you know that you'll win around half ur games if you are mildly proficient at the game...

For starters, some of us can't get over it, and trust me, I would love to. Others with this condition that I have talked to also resoundingly agree that the "ladder fear" is not a fear of losing; instead, it is the most common symptom of social anxiety disorder, a fear of being judged or criticized or embarrassed in front of others. Losing, in and of itself, is not embarrassing. At least, not in SC2, when it is common knowledge that everyone is bound to lose. Despite knowing this, I can't help but feel very nervous whenever I lose. Why? Because I am afraid (unrealistically so) that I am being judged by the other player, even if I never see him again in my play. Trust me, if I could "get over it," I would. It impacts my real life a lot more than it does this game, but I just thought I should elaborate a little on why at least myself and a handful of others I know experience the titular condition. the effect works oppositely, I'm judging you for not laddering even when it doesn't show your # of losses

If you're plat protoss and want to switch to zerg you have to spend at least 4 hours or so losing game after game to go against opponents that would be of this much lower rank. I think a seperate unranked ladder (as Wheat was talking about) would be great. Especially if there was seperate unranked ladders for each race so you could practice up as much as you want if you wanted. Just my two cents even if it's a little off-topic or you could just play custom games??

Are they afraid people will stop laddering and only use custom games?? Or what? I just don't understand.... Holy god, this is exactly what I feel like. The worst part about ladder is that you have to randomly play on different maps against different races. Sometimes, you will have a really long game that you lose, or even lose to something stupid, and then you can't get your mind off of it, and then *bam* queue up 5 ZvZ's lose them out of lack of interest, and get angry at losing ladder points, even though they shouldn't be a big deal, but the idea of losing something just exacerbates everything. *sigh* Now, where ladder excels is pairing you up with opponents of approximate skill levels. But because of the map pool and inability to select match-ups, it's really hard to improve at all, and I don't think it is a very effective way of improving by playing different match-ups on differently balanced maps. If I don't like maps I will veto them, while a large number of the other "bad" maps end up being vetoed by other players, so really only metal, shattered, xelnaga, and shakuras see any play for me, and those are the maps I would choose to custom on anyways.
