Obviously naniwa takes this easily. He gets what as reward? Paid trip to Korea and stay to participate in GSL? For how long?? Is this actually legit?

The winner gets to stay in the GOM house and will be allowed to participate in the qualifiers for code A. They made a deal with GOM about it. Not sure about how long though, I guess it depends on who wins too.

That is not much or a prize. They can go at their own and also get a spot at foreigners house (as there is barely anyone there atm) and they can apply for Code A qualifiers as well.
Basically the prize is a plane ticket to Korea which they could have payed for themselves if they gave them a cash prize (or just spent it on something more important to them).

They get the plane tickets, living quarters and like 15k SEK ($2.4k) spending money. I would say thats a pretty decent price, no?

...

You didn't happen to catch the name of the tournament did you? The whole purpose of the tournament was to find a player to send to Korea to represent Sweden. Rakaka have surely planned for coverage around the trip and more. But you are right, giving the money is so much more better...

I hope NaNiwa doesn't go to Korea. We need him in the international scene!!

From what I see, the conditons/pressure/lack of tournament practice in Korea drags most non-Korean players down anyway.

He should just win it and take the cash and gift the plane ticket to the runner-up or something. Korea isn't the centre of SC2 anyway. It'd be like going into the most dangerous pothole available for a non-Korean progamer atm - I mean to put yourself at your most disadvantaged against the Koreans in their place of greatest strength.

Naniwa would not need to qualify for code A as you can see here.

I have read somewhere that they get a guaranteed spot in Code A and do not need to qualify. That's what is said in the Liquidpedia article at least: http://wiki.teamliquid.net/starcraft2/The_Road_to_Korea - The GOMTV News suggests it as well: "players who have won major tournaments will win Code A seeds" - http://www.gomtv.net/2011gslsponsors3/news/65203

Can anyone confirm this? Or is it just that you can participate in preliminaries for Code A?

Nontheless I think the prize is really nice and I hope that the one that wins makes Sweden proud .

Naniwa needs to hit up korea ASAP imo. He's the best foreign player right now, but I won't considering him one of the best in the world until he proves himself there

Is it me that find this results a bit suprising?

Thorzain for instance seems a player perfect for GSL because if he has time to prepare he will make something happen and have a very good strategy prepared for the player and matchup like he did in TSL. Everytime he plays a normal tournament, where you just play a crap load of players, races and maps he just can't make it and fails..

The biggest suprise for me is Morrow loosing the chance to go and SaSe becoming so good and so fast!

Anyways Sweden is probably the best SC2 nation besides Korea, just look at these and then add Sjow, Jinro and Haypro! lol..

This tournament is a very interesting idea!

I really hope that Naniwa or sase wins! Don't get me wrong, Lalush and bischu are good players, but I don't see them getting far in the GSL at their current skill level.

hope naniwa/sase make it, they are definitely much more skilled than bischu/lalush anyway, and much better representatives... Naniwa is probably more skilled though, and is really motivated to become the best SC2 player ever gogo naniwa

Naniwa in Korea would be great since he said he wants to win GSL to prove himself, which means he has the dedication and patience to grind it out in Korea should he get stuck in Code A/Up&Down limbo.

SaSe has been crushing the ladder for quite some time now, and he was really good in WC3 too, not too surprised to see him on top.

Gotta think Nani has this but I'll be pulling for the king of BM, LaLush! Love his style and attitude.
