I am obviously bias, but I feel Sweden is definitely second to Korea. However I'd say the second best nation is the US. IdrA/HuK/Sheth can take games off anyone in the world.

White-ra has the tournament results to match almost any foreigner and don't for Strelok in the Ukrainian line-up. I'm sure there was an interview where Huk said he considered himself Canadian even if he was born and raised in America. That's a debatable issue. America has a lot of good but not great players but I suspect there's players equal to them in a lot of the european countries who don't get noticed as much because of the way IEM and dreamhack work compared to MLG.

They have idra and sheth, who are these decent players you are talking about?
Gatored, Kawaiirice, TriMaster, State, Pokebunny. Also whether you class Select as American or Korean could tip the scales.

Why do people keep placing Pokebunny in the top of US... I seriously doubt he is. I would put State over him.
Why would you ever choose failure, when success is an option.

Ok so most people still say Sweden.

Again, why why Sweden? Finland, Norway and Denmark are all very simmilar countries to Sweden, where are their players? Seems like nobody knows. Its not like they got internet 10 years after sweden.

And how come Germany isnt more domimant?

But they do have quite different infrastructure compared to Sweden and the culture is different. We've had very strong network infrastructured compared to most nations and that plays a big role I belive. We also have a leading IT culture and very strong IT companies that will just make people be around computers and games more than other kids, which also could be a big reason.

In the end I dont think it's even possible to conclude anything, but there are probably several factors that end up beeing important when it comes to puting out more talent onto the scene.

France, Ukraine, Germany, Poland all outclass the US in my eyes pretty convincingly.

How can france with only Stephano / ToD outclass the likes of IdrA, Sheth, Tyler, qxc, and so on?

Average TLPD ELO of top 5 players - only countries are listed which have 5+ in the top 400.
(for whats it worth to go by, since the entries are selective and retired players may be included - still gives a good idea because those effects should even out except for the secluded area that is China)

are we talking in terms of quality or quantity?

excluding korea, if you were to put swedish sc pros against any other country in a winner's league bo11 format, Sweden would win almost every time. A country like Canada would have to have an S class player like Huk all-kill or close to all-kill to win.

but if we're just looking at the top 3 players from each respective country, then countries like Ukraine, US, and France suddenly look a lot stronger

Sweden! We have so many talented players!

Jinro, MorroW, SaSe, Haypro, Sjow, Thorzain, Naniwa, Merz, Bischu, Cytoplasm

We also have lesser known players that are really good!
Seiplo, Naugrim, Forsen, Runa...

Now lets imagine this sick tournament. 10 nation tournament with some of the best players in the world. Bo7, All kill format!

Team Sweden (Jinro, MorroW, SaSe, Naniwa, Thorzain, Haypro)
Team Germany (TLO, Socke, Goody, Hasuhobs, Darkforce, Delphi)
Team Ukraine (WhiteRa, Dimaga, Kas, Strelok, HappyZerg, Bly)
Team Poland (Nerchio, Mana, DieStar, Tarson, SliDeR, ParanOid)
Team Canada (Huk, KiwiKaki, DDE, Slush, TT1, Drewbie)
Team USA (Idra, Sheth, Vibe, QXC, Tyler, Gatored)
Team France (Stephano, SarenS, Adelscott, Tod, Carn, Kenzy)
Team China (Xigua, MacSeed, Infi, TooDming, Loner, F91)
Team Korea (Nestea, MVP, MMA, MC, DRG, Leenock)
Team Russia (Brat_OK, TitaN, HappyZerg, + 3 more )

Obviously this would be played out live (like the GSTL). If this would happend then it would be by far the sickest tournament in the very young Sc2 history!

I think it depends if HuK is Canadian or American for these purposes. He's said before that he still associates with both countries (he lived in the U.S. until he was 16). If HuK plays for the U.S., they have a team arguably as good or better than Sweden or Ukraine, but without then they're a step below.

This is such a hilariously biased thread. Honestly half the players that people list to make their countries "roster" seem bigger aren't even pro and probably aren't even good for semi-pros. Everyone just wants to feel like their country is better so they name a lot of players when most of them are bad anyway. In the end it doesn't matter since there isn't really any team (i guess except for milanium since they wanna stay in france?) that only has players from their country, every team is inn some way international.

Any U.S.A American that has lived in Canada will want to be a part of Canada most likely. People are just generally nicer up here.

Anyways, Canada has never been touched by E-sports. All the NA events happen in USA so obviously there's more players there. I think in the future Canada will have a much stronger line up.

The list should be limited to players that have won reputable International tournaments or at least finished 2nd or 3rd often in them. Either way Sweden will be no.1.

Also lol at the guy that did all the random European nations with 1 or 2 guys, but not Sen.
